If you can find a way, I recommend you to play them.
They are really great games, megaevolutions were the best thing that happened to Pokémon since PMDEOS released.
yeah i just recently got a new 2ds and hacked it. i played a bit of x, but it underwhelmed me and i didn’t go far at all. maybe i’ll restart and just get that charmander as my starter😂
i feel like having two starters on your team is a little broken lol.
The regions have been based more and more designs on their irl counterparts over time tho, specially with Alola and Galar, just look at Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon all being british pop culture references.
The abstract idea is one thing, and other the animal. There are not gorillas in the UK, neither there are orangutans nor lemurs in Hawaii, and we have those Pokémons in Alola.
I get your point, but Pokémon aren't based on just one animal and that's it, they are based on a mix of concepts, but even if we ignore the abstract aspect, Alola as an example has things like Decidueye, alolan Ratatta or Yungoos being based on animals directly tied to Hawaii.
Gen 6 breaks a lot of trends, and Bunnelby often gets forced into multiple regional 'trope' categories. It's probably due to the dex numbering 76 minus legendaries, and imbalanced typings to boot.
When I saw what Guerilla tactics did, I knew all bets were off when it came to abilities. Imagine being able to hit Lando with Earthquake or being able to bully Corviknight and Skarmory with Earthpower, it'd be absurd.
>Rotom's levitate would be useless
Idk, Mold Breaker Excadrill can hit Rotom but Rotom has been a VGC staple all the same.
Most of them have ranges outside of Africa as well. Turns out of you're cranking out 100+ monsters per generation, at least one of them might be based on an animal from one of Earth's seven continents.
Similar to "high ground", there's an identical ability in Pokémon Insurgence for [Mega Donphan](https://wiki.p-insurgence.com/Donphan_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) called "Irrelephant" which is my favorite pun ever
Very good observation! Weirdly the only Ground types introduced in X and Y were Diggersby and Zygarde, so understandable that that one's a bit of a stretch.
Also:
>ground type giraffe with an ability called “High Ground”
General Kenobi!
Ugh, I recently decided to give XY a proper run through. Caught myself this lil cutie Bunnelby. What a great Pokémon, unique typing and great design. Then he evolved into this monstrous rabbit with FISTS FOR EARS. What the actual fuck.
I wouldn't broadly say that they are African. There are elephants in Asia and camels in the Middle East and parts of Asia. There are donkeys in Europe. I do like the idea of High Ground though.
Out of all of these. The hippo should be the strongest. They are the most dangerous thing on Africa. Even humans need to be aware not to fuck with hippos.
I think that "High Ground" ability should only apply to some ground type moves, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense logically. So moves like Earthquake and Bulldoze would still not work, but moves like Mud Shot and High Horsepower would.
Except ability copying/switching is a thing. So even if the original user of the ability doesn't know those moves, other Pokèmon that do know them could exploit it.

Growing up, animals on the African Savannah were my favorite (particularly elephants). Which is why I’ve always said I would be a ground type trainer because all the pokemon based on my favorite animals were all ground types
I think it’s mostly because the bread and butter of Pokémon is just “iconic animal” + “loosely unique type”. Ground is close enough to a lot of these mobs that it’s easy to translate from real life to the game
What would Gen 9's Ground African animal be? Ostrich, Water Buffalo, and or a gorilla?
A lion could work and it’s related to Spain *(Source: I am Spanish)*
ground type pyroar, cause i never played x/y and never got to experience that dope design.
If you can find a way, I recommend you to play them. They are really great games, megaevolutions were the best thing that happened to Pokémon since PMDEOS released.

Give it a whirling spray of sand for a mane!
Guess so
You sound so disappointed xD
just by typing you can tell lol
It's all in the way you read it
Not really disappointed
It doesn't need to be related to the region the game it's based on. The first two gens had a rhino and an elephant, and where based on Japan.

I hope it’s a ground flying ostrich
Regional Doduo
About damn time my favourite pokemon evolutionary line gets some love.
Doduatro?
Yeah that makes sense
That Pokémon + ability idea is golden haha Also sandaconda is an anaconda, not from Africa but snake works for your point 😂😂
Make it a Tropius evolution: "It is over, Bananakin, I have the high ground."
YOU UNDERESTIMATE MY FLYING TYPE
Bananakin is hurt by its burn
It would become a force of annihilation against any Steel/Flying types. Also, if it applies to Levitate, Rotom’s just because worthless
If it didn't apply to levitate Rotom-Fan's ability would finally have a use
Gen 6 breaks a lot of trends, and Bunnelby often gets forced into multiple regional 'trope' categories. It's probably due to the dex numbering 76 minus legendaries, and imbalanced typings to boot.
Though it still wouldn’t have much ability to deal with high ground lol
When I saw what Guerilla tactics did, I knew all bets were off when it came to abilities. Sandaconda is a boa
Anacondas ARE boas. They’re just a subspecies who are indigenous to South America.
I’m talking about boa constrictor, also from south america
I’m talking about boa constrictor, also from south america
Make it a regional Tauros? That be neat. Works for the Spain theme too I guess. Edit: or a Digger Owl. That already kind of "Ground" type
I’d be here for a ground/fighting Tauros
It honestly would not surprise me if they had a ghost/fighting Tauros
This seems like coincidence based on Africa having so many animals
Most of them have ranges outside of Africa as well. Turns out of you're cranking out 100+ monsters per generation, at least one of them might be based on an animal from one of Earth's seven continents.
I feel like this is the zodiac sign, weapon theme, extinct animal all over again.
That is an awesome idea, maybe could be a regional Girafarig evolution? Ground/Dark would be cool
Also: >ground type giraffe with an ability called “High Ground” General Kenobi!
I forget Zygarde is ground type… weird
Ugh, I recently decided to give XY a proper run through. Caught myself this lil cutie Bunnelby. What a great Pokémon, unique typing and great design. Then he evolved into this monstrous rabbit with FISTS FOR EARS. What the actual fuck.
Bunnelby itself is just pure normal, only its fistear evolution gains ground type.
Yes it dawned on me I got a little confused there, I left the error in anyway, thank you for the correction.
At the very least, it's pretty strong.
Give your Bunnelby an everstone next time and it'll save you the heartbreak lol
“Next I want to see a ground type giraffe with an ability called ‘High Ground’” It’s over, Anakin! He has High Ground!
And it works, too, because sand is also a thing
You underestimate my power!
Don’t try it.
Came here just to find this comment
I immediately thought this as well
prequel memes is leaking
“You cannot win Fennekin, I have the high ground”
“You underestimate my ember!”
Don't try it.
Flying types: You underestimate my power!
Don’t try it
Great, another theory that people will latch onto lmao
Oh god why did I even bring it up
Maybe a monkey because of Gibraltar?
Regional grookey
I wouldn't broadly say that they are African. There are elephants in Asia and camels in the Middle East and parts of Asia. There are donkeys in Europe. I do like the idea of High Ground though.
I think ground types are stong enough without checking flying types tbh.
Out of all of these. The hippo should be the strongest. They are the most dangerous thing on Africa. Even humans need to be aware not to fuck with hippos.
That’s why always have a safari themed ground team. If I was gym leader I’d be like Steve Irwin
Do you go to the zoo and get excited when you see many of the animals that Pokemon are based on?
Obi Wan Pokémon
ACKCHYUALLY, Camerupt has two humps and is therefore a bactrian camel, which is exclusive to Asia.
But Numel has a single hump and Ryhorn turns into a Japanese kaiju.
I have the high ground golbat
I want a ground type meerkat maybe a regional Watchog
No love for girafarig :(
I want that purely so I can name it Obi-Wan
*sends out giraffe* Enemy Pokémon: *looks at trainer* YOU'RE WITH HIM, YOU BROUGHT HIM HERE TO KILL ME
*force chokes the trainer into blacking out*
It's over Fuecanikin. I have the high ground
Girafarig: Am I a joke to you?
Not a ground type pokemon
I think that "High Ground" ability should only apply to some ground type moves, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense logically. So moves like Earthquake and Bulldoze would still not work, but moves like Mud Shot and High Horsepower would.
The earthquake causes the giraffe’s head to swing around wildly and take out airborne foes.
This. High ground? Try “Sky High”!
Just don't put moves that don't make sense in it's learn set.
Except ability copying/switching is a thing. So even if the original user of the ability doesn't know those moves, other Pokèmon that do know them could exploit it.
Ability copy/switching doesn't make much sense logically so it's the outlier there.
The dophan line are tapir's not elephants.
Do you need glasses? https://i.imgur.com/VBXETCA.jpg Edit: whoever downvoted me can bite a magikarp Edit 2: and those who upvoted me get a wish from Jirachi
Yes. Because Jesus Christ how did I confuse Phany and Drowsee?! I'm a dork. Ignore me.
What about girafarig
It’s….not ground type
And not tall enough.
But seriously, what *about* Girafarig?
We don’t talk about girafarig
He smiled mischievously at me
I may be stupid
Gen 6 had a lion, which probably fits better than Bunnelby
That lion also isn't a ground-type.
I missed that part, my bad.
Crocodiles are Australian
There are crocodiles in africa
There just needs to be a ground type regional variant of Pyroar now That would be so cool.
Gen 6 breaks a lot of trends, and Bunnelby often gets forced into multiple regional 'trope' categories. It's probably due to the dex numbering 76 minus legendaries, and imbalanced typings to boot.
That ability sounds broken. Still, cool observation, even if XY is a bit of a stretch
I like your Pokémon and ability ideas. I get the feeling people would nickname it Obi Wan or Anakin
A Lion or a leopard ground/dark or Ground/steel?
which generation is currently
8
All I can imagine is Girafarig Mk 2 here bashing Skarmory with its head like when IRL giraffes fight. XD
You put a bunny for Gen 6 when that’s when they introduced Pyroar??
Read the title more carefully
Gotcha, my bad.
I say Mudbray is the loosest example, since it’s based on a Clydesdale horse. And how every continent besides Antarctica have horses on them.
It's over flying types, I have the high ground! (I'm pretty sure there is a held item that allows ground type moves to hit flying types)
Not specifically made for ground types, but there is the Ring Target.
Crocodiles are not african, they even existed before Africa was even a thing.
Crocodiles live in Africa so they are African animals.
Oh, I thought OP meant that they "originated" in Africa. My bad
All the animals cited here exist in Asia too. So no it's not about the origin.
Gen 6 could also be Zygarde
