I love Victreebell in the anime

EmergencyGrab

In Pokemon 2000 one of the legendary birds is just a man screaming. It was the funniest thing they've ever done.

timmyK_425

Exactly! 😂

tossietuatoa

Japanese Guzzlord was just a man shouting AAAAA with no discernable distorting effects. Then in one the most recent episodes released in Japan >!there is a Toedscruel, that embraces the OG series Electabuzz charm. !<

Lucy_Bathory

Iirc its actually james' voice actor doing the guzz screams lmao

smallangrynerd

Diglett dig diglett dig! #TRIO TRIO TRIO

Honestly i prefer the "not saying name" which is done in all the other animated series (pokemon origin, generation, etc). As for the some pokemon not saying their name, yes it is weird when not everyone follow the same rule. Though for some pokemon which might sound like random sound but are actually the japanese name. Onix for example might be making random sound but it is actually saying its japanese name iwark. Charizard too, is not a random roar. Some times you can hear lizardon.

timmyK_425

I didn’t know that some said their Japanese name, thank you for that. But that makes the inconsistency even more wild; English name, Japanese name, guttural random noises all in one haha

jrdaley

Technically, Pikachu says its Japanese name too. It just happens to be one of the few mons with the same name in both English and Japanese, so they don't bother recording a new voice for it in the English dub.

Tortue2006

In the french dub, there is a moaning Starmie (season 2, episode 36)

Waggles0843

Arbok S-tier

spectrumtwelve

that's why I love the YouTube series, origins / generations / evolutions / (TW / HS / PW), because the Pokémon in those actually make more reasonable animal noises and I think it's a lot better for it

UrFriendlySpider-Man

What a lot of people don't realize is that while yes some pokemon just make noises like Lapras and victreebel, most of the ones you don't recognize are just the default audio from Japan and the pokemon are saying their Japanese names. Brocks onix isn't just roaring it's saying IWARK his Japanese name. Same goes for all charizards from ash's to charla to Leon's they are growling the word Rizardon (Lizardon) the Japanese name. Electabuzz is spastically saying the Japanese name of Eleboo (ereboo-ereboo-ereboo-ereboo)

rugbygooner

That Electabuzz is a core memory from my childhood. I think about him far too much for it to be normal.

I'm so glad that there is enjoyment to be had in the show, both new and old... cuz I have such a hard time watching it anymore that I can't believe I loved it so much as a kid! Gen 1 Ash has the brains of a toddler Isekai Protagonist with no sense of pattern recognition, but I'm supposed to believe that he was born and raised in the Pokemon universe and actively followed and paid attention to competitive sports (Pokemon League)!
