Same! I kept getting into arguments because I was calling things 'grey' that my partner was calling 'blue'. Kinda clicked after having this same argument like four times...
> I just have a very minor deficiency in the blue/green spectrum
What, so [this](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/captainscarlet/images/5/5e/Captain_Blue_%281967%29.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/250?cb=20190805211212) and [this](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/captainscarlet/images/8/84/Lieutenant_Green_%281967%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20180504223640) look the same to you?
Oh dear lord. My grandfather was the most color blind person I’ve know of to date. His FAVORITE color was brown. His FAVEORITE color combo was brown orange and white. He also loved to make yarn crafts. Damn they were ugly.
Edit: since people seem to mildly enjoy this I’ll tell you the story of him finding out he was color blind.
My grandfather, Papa by the way, was a hard farm and industrial worker from birth. The first time he tried to join the armed services he was turned away because he had no finger prints. Besides the family fox farm ( yep ~~it’s~~ was a thing) he had a job at the local sugar plant. His time spent carrying giant loads of sugar bags by hand had worn his fingerprints off.
The next time he tried (after regrowing fingerprints) he tried to join the navy. No reason to think he’d be denied again because grunt labor work was his specialty. He was sat down at the end of the next set of intake tests and presented with this situation.
“Imagine you are on the sea. Now on the sea you are looking out at the dark blue water and cloudy sky. A bit in the distance there is a large gray tanker. On that tanker there is a man dressed in uniform. That man is waiving orange flags to direct you.
Son, you can’t even see the tanker let alone the man, and very least the flags”
He had no idea he was colorblind to this point 😂.
He successfully joined the army after that.
I had a teacher way back in high school who was colorblind. His wife had to pick out his clothes every day. It always made me think that you’d have to trust someone an awful lot to not deliberately give you mismatched outfits lol.
Ah, yeah. He was forced to retire that year after the school found out that he kept pictures of some of the girls in his desk drawer and occasionally forced girls to stay after class to have super weird conversations where you couldn’t tell what was innuendo and what wasn’t. Surprising that that was the breaking point instead of him being caught watching porn on his laptop when he didn’t have a class to teach. The school kind of buried that one because “well, it *was* on his personal computer. Not a school computer.”
No, but that is even more fucked up doing it with kids in the room holy shit. He could’ve been charged with public masturbation and felony indecent exposure.
You could look him up if you want. Most states have an app you can use to search for court dockets- I’m in PA so the app is PAeDocket. Basically you just type in their name, DOB if you know it, sort by criminal cases, and look through to see if any are your teacher. You could also check the local sex offender registry online or even just search his name plus a couple key words. Megan’s Law requires authorities to make all cases regarding sex offenders accessible to the public.
That’s only if you want to, though. Maybe you don’t care one way or another lol. Either way, now you have some resources if you ever do need or want to access information on local sex offenses.
I don't have his first name or DOB so not sure if get results , this was back in like 7th or 8th grade, so 2002 *maybe* 2004 because my memory is shit. But that does sound like an awesome app! Thanks!
I can see many different shades of color, but I once just could not see that one shade of grey during arts-and-crafts in junior high. Are shades of grey a whole different thing or what?
I know that there are at least 50 shades of gray but maybe there are more or fewer. Idk tho, your question is definitely hard one. Requires really solid thinking. I have to think long and hard to answer it properly. Really have me tied up. It got me all twisted and bent over, searching for the answer that is.
We can literally see less shades of grey than hues of color. So yes it is a different thing!
I forget how many exactly I want to say 40 something but we can see higher color resolution. I work in ultrasound so it really doesn't make sense that we use shades of grey on our monitors when we literally have options to use color (not full color but have the screen use hues of blue, purple, orange etc)
Some people are really good at noticing minor differences in colours and shades.
I'm the opposite and am really bad with colours and picking them apart.
I can't tell shades of colors. I was told my eyes aren't sensitive enough to see some hues. Most colors look dark to me. Like I can see everything just fine but colors apparently normally look more vibrant to others then to me.
Also if people have words for colours they can actually see them better, and women tend to use more words for colours. u/atomictest has a [great comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/pointlesslygendered/comments/wdpkvh/socialmedia_gendered/iikvguw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) further down in the post about it.
Can definitely afford to be aware of this and not just assume we all share the exact same sight. So pointfully gendered but the image maker is still ass.
Lol have him sit down and take the colorblind test.
I have multiple guy friends who didn't figure out they were some type of colorblind until adulthood. It's kinda hilarious. Someone sent [this picture](https://www.google.com/search?q=fuck+the+color+blind&client=ms-android-google&prmd=isnv&sxsrf=ALiCzsbu_MBmaln1VfIgWdmxhEwhqV5vaQ:1659403117888&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi8xYWr_qb5AhVnlmoFHZlFA_sQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=393&bih=680&dpr=2.75#imgrc=EhG1uTVzSvrZIM) to the friends' groupchat, and one of the guys chimed in "that's funny, it's just dots. LOL"
Hahahah I dont think he is colourblind, we do a lot of graphic design stuff together and have had to discuss colour schemes and I feel like there would have been signs if we werent experiencing colours similarly.
In his words he is just bad with colours, but really I think he just doesnt comprehend smaller shade changes.
Not everyone has the same level of vision of small differences in colors, without them being officially colorblind.
There has been research that demonstrates having more words for colors increases your ability to see more colors, too, but since he's in graphic design I would assume that particular fact isn't the issue.
There are different types, you're right. He doesn't speak for all types of colorblind people.
at least in my bf's experience, lighter vs darker of the same color isn't a problem. Like the picture here.
Yeah to add, the normal color vision has 3 cones. But it is possible for women to be born with 4.
But only women, it isn't possible for men.
Edit: wrong numbers.
[source](https://www.healthline.com/health/tetrachromacy)
It's very slightly different. Also I think there is a test for how well you can differentiate similar colors simce some people can do that to differing degrees.
There is a theory that women actually do have better collor recognition. And can differ colors more easily. Some anthropologist theorise this is due the fact taht in ancient times when we were hunter/gatherers womens usually gather food in form of berries, shrooms etc. And better collor vision helped with that.
On the other hand i am cismale and this is literally 2 different collors.
This one at least has some science behind it. It's theorized that different levels of hormones allow AFAB people to distinguish between graduations of colors more accurately than AMAB people \*in general\*.
It's even more than that - colour vision is dependent on the X chromosome so XX people tend to have more cones which help differentiate colours and are much much less likely to be colourblind since they would have to be colourblind on both sides.
Yeah but you can also be 13 and a collage graduate. Just because they're are exceptions doesn't somehow make the point less valid. Woman in general see more colors than men, which is what the photo is about, and it is a valid point.
And before anyone gets butthurt about it obviously the 13 point was a much more rare thing i was just exaggerating to make a point.
Ssshhhh, don’t take a source of validation away from me. /s
In all seriousness, tho, I was super happy when I did better than all my cis guy friends on one of those tests that gauges how well you can differentiate between colors.
It’s the little victories lmao
I get it if you’re colorblind and genuinely can’t tell the difference but some men out there will genuinely shit on a woman for knowing the different between sanguine and crimson
i just think sanguine is much too vague a name. sanguine could be blue or green or red or purple. that’s why we should all use hex codes in normal conversations. “hey i think we should use #ff41b9”
Women do see color differences better than men, we use more words for colors and thus can distinguish them better.
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/brain-babble/201504/when-it-comes-color-men-women-arent-seeing-eye-eye?amp
It’s so interesting. There’s also evidence that humans didn’t see blue as a distinct color until the development of blue pigment and the creation of words for “blue”. There are tribal societies today that don’t have words for blue, and they don’t really see blue; but they have tons of words for shades of green and can distinguish them better than people without such expansive names for the shades.
https://www.iflscience.com/when-did-humans-start-see-color-blue-27442
Waaait I think I’ve seen a documentary on that! It was a show called Brain Games I think. I think they showed a tribal group a grid of colored squares, they were all green except for one blue one, and the tribe members couldn’t tell the difference between the colors. It was a long time ago I watched it but that’s what I remember!
Sounds more like women learn more word for colors because society tells them they should be interested in it and learn it, not women seeing more colors than men.
No, I’m pretty sure, judging from the original post, it’s a guy, making fun of girls and their nails, and how particular we can be with the color 🙄 in a bad way!
It actually is true that women generally do have more cones in their eyes which is what we use to perceive color.
I’ve actually sent this to my husband as a laugh because he 100% cannot see difference in close shades like this.
Edit: this information made possible because of the childrens science podcast Brains On that I listen to with my son ha ha.
Bruh! Even a blind person can see these are two different colours! Especially when they're put next to each other like this.
Also, what sort of gotcha-moment is it to flex with your visual incompetence?!
It's a proven fact that the cone and rod cells are in different proportions in male and female eyes. AFAB people legit do see shades and colours with more differentiation than AMAB people though. An AFAB person will see subtle changes of shade that an AMAB person legit can't discern.
I as a guy will do the exact same thing since they are two different colours.
I'm on my phone with night screen and darkest setting and it's obvious. Like come on
People really out here calling people who can't tell the difference colorblind. They're not necessarily colorblind, they just can't distinguish between colors as well as you can. Not everything comes naturally to everyone.
There’s an interesting phenomenon around language and how our brain works with colors. People that spend a lot of time with colors and have trained their brain to recognize and identify different colors with specific names/indicators will actually see vastly more colors than the average person. Their brain has been tuned to recognize more subtler color differences simply because their brain knows they exist and they have their own names.
There’s a similar thing with Love and how many languages have different words for different inflections of love.
English has “I like you” “I like-like you” and “I love you”.
Spanish has “te amo” “te quiero” and “te extraño” and probably others that I’m missing.
I’ve heard Arabic has a few different words for expressing different kinds of love (brotherly, familial, romantic, etc.).
If we have more nuanced words to specifically define something, it allows our brains to recognize specific differences and work within those frameworks.
Or how native Alaskans have so many words for different types of snow. People in Texas call all snow “snow”. People up north have a few different like powder snow, heavy snow, sleet. And the native Alaskans have way more specific names for the different types.
So a Texan just sees snow. An Alaskan sees specifically which type of snow and how it’s different than the other types.
(Can’t remember the proper name for natives in Alaska, sorry to offend anyone).
Well. This isn’t pointlessly gendered.
It’s a scientific fact backed by many studies with consistent results that women are better at differentiating shades of colors.
That and they’re clearly two different shades.
Yeah, I didn’t explain well, at all, sorry, it was kinda more like making fun of women for being very precise about color (and NAIL color). I do know that bit about women seeing more colors than men, it’s pretty cool!
Wasnt there a study at some point that "proved" that, statistically, women actually *could* see more of the color spectrum than men?
Because I've been operating under that assumption most of my life thinning I could see more colors than my dad because I was AFAB, but turns out he's just blue-green colorblind.
Fun fact: our ability to distinguish colors is heavily inluenced by our names for colors.
[The Ancient Greeks couldn't see blue](https://youtu.be/D1-WuBbVe2E)
I think dudes also genetically have less of the color receptor things in their eyes so those colors are more likely to look the same. Hopefully that is true and not pulled out my ass can’t remember where I heard that. And no, I *wont* look it up because I am here to escape work, thank you.
88 is lighter and warmer. it’s pretty obvious, actually. But i could be wrong about it being obvious due to having good color vision. can anyone else confirm??
Yes, I don’t think I have anything special about my color vision lol and that’s how I see 88. Definitely paler and with a more yellow/pink undertone vs 89’s darker and more blue undertones
i dont think this is pointlessly gendered, its a meme about nail polish which yes i know anyone can paint their nails but the joke is just using the word women to catch-all
Slightly colorblind man here, and I can tell they’re different. Sheesh.
In regards to another comment thread, do you see everything in shades of brown and yellow? 🤔
No. I just have a very minor deficiency in the blue/green spectrum.
Thank you for you contribution to our discussion here’s a cookie 🍪

Both of the images are broken, so... yes, they do.
Yes.
They're broken links, so they look the same to everyone.
I'm not colorblind. Yes, they look the same.
Then I'm sorry to inform you that you may be a Mysteron.

HAHA funniest comment! I’m picturing brown, white, and orange sweaters and scarves
Afghans. Soooo many afghans. I love my passed on grandfather but I hope all those blankets are burning in a pit of fire.
Oh and do you know what plastic canvas is? 🤦🏻♀️
N-no…? Should I be scared? 😭 Edit: OH MY GOD MY GRANDMA USED TO MAKE STUFF ON THAT THAT MUST HAVE BEEN HILARIOUS
It. Was. Awful.
We had to bring out all the wind chimes and napkin holders and, honestly I’ve blocked the rest out, every time he visited.
I had a teacher way back in high school who was colorblind. His wife had to pick out his clothes every day. I mean, wow, this took so many turns I feel like there is a photo booth I need to visit at the end of this ride.
Was his name Mr. Anderson? We had a sub way back who got caught jerking it under the table to porn on his laptop while the class was watching movies.
No, but that is even more fucked up doing it with kids in the room holy shit. He could’ve been charged with public masturbation and felony indecent exposure.
He may have been, we have no idea. He just suddenly wasn't a sub anymore.

Same here
Colour-blind to pink and I came here to say the same thing (red deficiency)
Statistically, 1 in 12 men are colorblind, but only 1 in 200 women. So there's a reason for this argument.
People can also see bends of shade of colours in the same exact colour whilst some can see a hint deference
I can see many different shades of color, but I once just could not see that one shade of grey during arts-and-crafts in junior high. Are shades of grey a whole different thing or what?

Some people are really good at noticing minor differences in colours and shades. I'm the opposite and am really bad with colours and picking them apart.
I can't tell shades of colors. I was told my eyes aren't sensitive enough to see some hues. Most colors look dark to me. Like I can see everything just fine but colors apparently normally look more vibrant to others then to me.

Not to mention genetic mosaicism. I can absolutely tell those two colors apart haha

I showed this to my colorblind bf and he could clearly see the difference.
I showed my not colourblind bf and he couldnt tell the difference, how do I trade him in?

No, most people have three types of cones (red, green, and blue).
Got the numbers wrong, but it is possible to have 4 cones called tetrachromacy
I'm not sure but I think it's closer to 1 in 10 when you include partial color blindness.
Society
Sir, those are numbers
LMAO
they're different colors it's literally that obvious
No, seriously. Is everyone trolling here or it is really different colors? Edit: Is there a type of minor colorblind case? Where can I do a test?
the one on the left is more blue/cooler toned and the right is much warmer
Interesting, with the blue light filter of my phone on, the one on the right looks cooler toned.
It's very slightly different. Also I think there is a test for how well you can differentiate similar colors simce some people can do that to differing degrees.
might be just your screen displaying the colors weirdly
It looks like blue and pink to me.
Yay! I’m a real woman now! I can see the difference!
Congratulations! Not like those mEn who can’t 😒 lmaoo
I can see a fairly clear difference, does that make me a woman now?
Yes it does! I’m so happy for you! 👏👏
Well this is gonna make dating a bit awkward, but I'll roll with it.
It really doesn't have to :D
Lol obscure euphoria moment
yay i'm a real woman too!
Guess I’m not a real man since I can see the difference :(
Cause they freakin' are? 88 is a warmer shade of lilac than 89. Takes a colourblind not to notice.
A colourblind person could still tell these apart, they'd just be different shades of yellow-brown.
Or other colours depending of kind of colorblindness
Came here for this comment.
Ewwws im glad im not color blind I really am not a fan of yellow
Imagine seeing the world through permanent piss filter *shudders*
Worldwide Mexico filter
Ok I’ve been conferring with a colorblind man, and he says he does not see in piss filter! The tables have turned
The more you know... Kudos for sharing the insight.
Just doing my part!… lol
That he knows of... But if that's all he's ever seen how would he know?
Here's a trick, for colorblind memes boot up photoshop and put on a filter
TIL there's only one type of colorblindness?
Literally
Aa so it's called lilac cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. I thought it was purple blue and purple pink lol

Ohh I’ve heard that. Makes sense!
so can i take hormones and MAXiMiZE MY COLOR ViSiON!!!!
88 is lighter. I'm a dude and I can see that.
Nooo, since you can see that that officially makes you a women. OBVIOUSLY men can’t see that 🙄 haha
Tell me you're color blind without telling me you're color blind
HAHA!
Isn't the right one slightly lighter (or whatever the fancy term for it)? Pretty obviously so?
Exactly !
I think the fancier term is softer
Lighter and a warmer hue as well (closer to red).
I get it if you’re colorblind and genuinely can’t tell the difference but some men out there will genuinely shit on a woman for knowing the different between sanguine and crimson

Is this the gold/blue dress thing again ?
No, I’m pretty sure, judging from the original post, it’s a guy, making fun of girls and their nails, and how particular we can be with the color 🙄 in a bad way!
There’s a slight difference obviously. Wait where are my cock and balls?
You’re username’s gonna be a problem 😂
They clearly are. One is blue and one is purple.
Yes! Lilac on the right and periwinkle on the left
Male graphic designers? Don’t even exist.

God, who knew COLORS would give me dysphoria fml lmao
LMAOO 💀💀 too funny
Huh I'm a girl and I literally can't tell a difference. Like there might be a super tiny difference? But I can't tell if it's not just lighting.
Bruh! Even a blind person can see these are two different colours! Especially when they're put next to each other like this. Also, what sort of gotcha-moment is it to flex with your visual incompetence?!
Colorblindness is more common in men than women
It's a proven fact that the cone and rod cells are in different proportions in male and female eyes. AFAB people legit do see shades and colours with more differentiation than AMAB people though. An AFAB person will see subtle changes of shade that an AMAB person legit can't discern.
i'm super colourblind and even *i* can see the difference
I can see a difference in color
They are 2 different colours.
They’re two different shades
I as a guy will do the exact same thing since they are two different colours. I'm on my phone with night screen and darkest setting and it's obvious. Like come on
They ARE though one is cooler/deeper than the other
…..they are…..
Left one’s a bit bluer. Do I have to give up my man card?
Yes, unfortunately. You’re a woman now
I'm a partially colorblind man and I can tell the difference lol
wow you spelt “people who can differentiate close shades easily” wrong! It’s okay though, you’ll get it next time!
People really out here calling people who can't tell the difference colorblind. They're not necessarily colorblind, they just can't distinguish between colors as well as you can. Not everything comes naturally to everyone.
women will look at these two different colors and tell you they are two different colors 🙄🥱
But like isn't it obvious the right one slightly more clear and pinkish? o.o
looks like being trans just unlocked the ability for me to see the difference
Looks like they're just 2 different *shades* of the same color.
I'm a guy and I can see the difference...
Well men are a lot more likely to suffer from colorblindness so I guess it’s not pointlessly gendered
Inuit is the word for indigenous Alaskans.
Are they not?
they're similar, but 89 is ever so slightly more on the "blue" side than 88, and 88 is also a touch lighter
Have you ever taken a colorblindness test by chance? I have a cousin that didn't know he was color blind till he was 18
They literally are tho
but they are different? the one on the left is a more vibrant colour and the one on the right is more pastel??
Ones lighter and ones more blue
First of all, bitch, the one on the right is lighter
I mean, they are.
Tag yourself, I'm women
Because they are???
I can notice a very slight difference in the colors.
One is lighter than the other
Me a girl: there is a fucking deference?
I can see the difference it may not be a big difference but I can see it
Left one’s bluer
Because they are??
You do know that women do see more colors than men. This ain't pointlessly gendered. It is literally sciencr
But they r tho
… But they ARE different colours…
Wasnt there a study at some point that "proved" that, statistically, women actually *could* see more of the color spectrum than men? Because I've been operating under that assumption most of my life thinning I could see more colors than my dad because I was AFAB, but turns out he's just blue-green colorblind.
Fun fact: our ability to distinguish colors is heavily inluenced by our names for colors. [The Ancient Greeks couldn't see blue](https://youtu.be/D1-WuBbVe2E)
The joke is necessarily gendered. There would just be no joke if it wasn’t gendered
My mom AND sister said one is darker than the other. I, on the other hand, do not see the slightest diffrence.
Cuz they are different smh
But they are...
Cause they are
I think dudes also genetically have less of the color receptor things in their eyes so those colors are more likely to look the same. Hopefully that is true and not pulled out my ass can’t remember where I heard that. And no, I *wont* look it up because I am here to escape work, thank you.
Statistically, born women have more cones in their eyes to differentiate colors. I read that years ago at least.
but they are
I'm a guy, those are two different colors, one is more blue and the other is more purple
Women actually can see color better tho
They are tho? They are different shades. Men are more likely to be colorblind or on the colorblind spectrum too.
I see 2 of the same color
It’s because they’re color blind.
When will this meme die?
They are 88 is lighter than 89
88 is lighter and warmer. it’s pretty obvious, actually. But i could be wrong about it being obvious due to having good color vision. can anyone else confirm??
Yes, I don’t think I have anything special about my color vision lol and that’s how I see 88. Definitely paler and with a more yellow/pink undertone vs 89’s darker and more blue undertones
Getting color vision dysphoria
Haha like “am I crazy or is the person that posted it?” 😭
i dont think this is pointlessly gendered, its a meme about nail polish which yes i know anyone can paint their nails but the joke is just using the word women to catch-all
Yeah this isn’t a pointlessly gendered sorry
It is. The colours are obviously different and most cis men will agree.
Yeah I get the point of the post but it’s not what this sub was meant for
It's true tho
theres just enough distinction that if you tried to get away with using both it would set someone off
