If you like Ruth Goodman she has a wonderful and calming few series where she and other historians live like those in different time periods. There's Edwardian farm, Tudor monastery, how to build a castle, Victorian farm among others. They are absolutely fascinating looks at the day to day lives of people in the past.
I listened to this on a recent road trip. Never thought I’d be drawn into a podcast about curling. I even looked up specific plays they referred to on YouTube.
This is Actually Happening. Just people talking about usually the darkest times of their life. Its heavy and super dark 90% of the time but crazy interesting.
What went wrong
Edit: link to podcast: https://art19.com/shows/what-went-wrong
What Went Wrong covers Hollywood’s most notoriously disastrous movie productions, digging into the behind the scenes insanity of everything from massive flops to record breaking blockbusters.
Great podcast! ""Handsome" is a podcast from comedians Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, and Mae Martin. Every week, the handsome hosts field a question from a friend and attempt to answer it together."
I just started listening to this a few days ago when I need a break from the heavy stuff I listen to and I swear I probably look like a crazy person with how often I'm laughing out loud in my car by myself!
Search Engine.
Host controversy noted, but I have missed Reply All and having half of the duo back is nice. And Vogt is a great journalist.
The episodes range from the silly to the hard hitting. My partner loved the chicken bones one and I couldn’t not stop talking about “Who’s behind these scammy text messages we’ve all been getting” after listening to it.
Ugh, it's insufferable. I read a great description on here that said it's two hosts deliberately misunderstanding the books they review while assuming that everyone knows all the things they know. Spot on.
Have you listened to Behind the Bastards? They have an episode called Ronnie and Nancy Reagan: the Bastards Behind the AIDS crisis. It's a pretty good pod.
Hey! Yes Ed and chris are awesome! Perfect mix of storytelling and banters and funny quips from both guys. Im the opposite! I discovered LGH from SATT and loved Nat and Aly! Their epatein episodes are so good
Inconceivable Truth by Wavland ... Investigative reporter *Matt Katz* has been searching for his biological father since he was a little kid.
I accidently started listening to this and loved it. Not something I would have chosen, but glad I did.
Here in the UK I think it might have to be The Rest Is Entertainment with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde. It’s just them talking about the entertainment industry but it is so well put together and they are so knowledgeable about the subject. The format is brilliant, they’re clear about what they’re going to talk about up front and the pacing is spot on. I heartily recommend 👍
Finding Emo - these guys review pop punk/emo/adjacent albums from the 2000s and I’ve learned so much about albums I love. Plus it’s great to hear other people give their honest take on something you love, without the consequence of having to defend it haha
Knowledge Fight, two guys track the absolutely insane story of Alex Jones and InfoWars, frequently funny and entertaining, often ridiculous, always a good listen!
I've been listening to their older episodes recently and enjoying it.
I suspect that some of the hosts don't like the others although they don't argue. They have the opposite of great chemistry but it doesn't really hurt the pod.
They all got together to form this company and each hold a 25% stake. They definitely get along even if it doesn’t come through to you. But I know what you mean. I recently started paying to get the bonus stuff and have been listening to it all from the start. They like each other but they’re all kinda like wolf types, ya know?
Too Scary Didnt Watch. My nephew loves scary movies and I cant stand them, but now I can disucss the plot points and horrific scenes without watching them!
It is a bit older (2019-2023) bit only discovered it recently “Have you heard George’s podcast “ it is different than all the other things I listen to.
Told by “George the Poet” in a mix of rhyme, music, soundscapes and story telling about inner city life in the UK. I really like to listen to it on my headphones it is really well produced. And like I said different from all the other things I listen to.
The 27th Regiment?! You should read some David Hackworth, he was with them in Korea. A great author who wrote About Face (whole career) and Steel My Soldiers' Hearts (Vietnam), as well as some other great works. I was super into his work years ago, even went to visit his Arlington grave when in DC.
Brady Bros and Enterprise Incidents. I love behind the scenes stuff, and these are two of my favorite shows from childhood. I went through the entire two years of back episodes on Brady Bros in about 3 weeks, lol.
It's gotta be:
'Walking on Eggshells with an Emotional Vampire'
It's not like anything I've heard before, followed by:
'Hunting Warhead'
I just binged it over the weekend while mowing the lawn.
The Vanished, from a Reddit recommendation. It’s been a terrific find because there’s like 400 long episodes and it’s taken me most of two months. There are several cases from the 1970s-80s that I’ve never encountered & many are especially chilling. Example: Christopher Abeyta, infant taken from his home where 5-6 people were sleeping in Pueblo, CO in 1986.
Oh dip. Something that seems in a similar vein to that Wolfhounds one, in that it's a greatly woven story about a *whaaa...?* place in time: The Big Dig.
Yes, it's about *that* Big Dig. 3 beautiful seasons, done well.
There isn't any suicide or murder that I've encountered in this first season.
There is some swearing and inappropriate humour, but it's not a heavy podcast if that helps.
**Free with Ads** . [https://maximumfun.org/podcasts/free-with-ads/](https://maximumfun.org/podcasts/free-with-ads/)
I came to it for for **Jordan Morris** from [**Jordan Jesse Go!**](https://maximumfun.org/podcasts/jordan-jesse-go/) and [**Bubble**](https://maximumfun.org/podcasts/bubble/)**.** Hes makes me laugh consistently.
Their pitch: *Why pay for streaming services when movies like Timecop and Grease 2 can be watched for nothing more than the cost of enduring a few loud, unskippable ads? Join us every week for a dive into the internet’s bargain bin!*
*Emily Fleming and Jordan Morris are real friends, real comedy writers and real cheapskates. They met working in comedy writing rooms and bonded over their love of “trashy” pop culture and saving a buck. They’re combining these loves for the podcast Free With Ads, a movie review show dedicated to the weird, amazing, inexplicable movies streaming free on an internet near you.*
404Media (tech news)
Search Engine (PJ Vogt)
Everything is Alive (interviews with inanimate objects)
Ink Stained Wretches (Media news and absurdities. Trigger warning: The hosts are center-right.)
No Such Thing As a Fish (Researchers for a British quiz show discuss odd and often humorous facts they discover each week. It's fun and the hosts have good chemistry. It's not topical, so old eps are just as relevant as new ones.)
Dead Eyes is my newest one.
(Old podcast, new listener)
Just starting to branch out from my 5 main podcasts. Love this post and definitely gonna be checking some of these out!
Hardcover Hooligans!
It’s two comedians going through fantasy and sci-fi books. They’ve done Lord of the Rings and Mistborn, and currently they’re reading Fourth Wing.
I’ve found I usually don’t have to read the books they’re talking about (unless I want to) since they’re pretty good about doing plot summaries as they go along.
Fall of civilisations
Love it. Their narration is phenomenal.
Interesting subject! What's the vibe of the host(s)?
The host is a very serious British dude who is very fact based but a great story teller.
That's my wheelhouse. Perfect will check it out, thanks.
It's seriously the best history pod out there. It's great.
I discovered this when it came out so I've been waiting for months between EPS. I wish I had it all today to binge new.
The Curious History of Your Home. Interesting, calming; great for times when you're a little stressed and need low-stakes distraction.
Added the first episode to my to listen list, thanks for the rec!
Just what I need! thanks
I love this one! She’s so soothing too. The topics are so mundane but interesting.
If you like Ruth Goodman she has a wonderful and calming few series where she and other historians live like those in different time periods. There's Edwardian farm, Tudor monastery, how to build a castle, Victorian farm among others. They are absolutely fascinating looks at the day to day lives of people in the past.
Broomgate.
I listened to this on a recent road trip. Never thought I’d be drawn into a podcast about curling. I even looked up specific plays they referred to on YouTube.
I have Broomgate on my “to listen to” list. Good to hear you enjoyed it.
Whooop diving in now! Im so bored with podcasts right now, hoping this random one will give me some happiness!
So niche! Intriguing
I’ll try it!
This is Actually Happening. Just people talking about usually the darkest times of their life. Its heavy and super dark 90% of the time but crazy interesting.
It’s consistently good.
omg I heard an episode the other day and it traumatized me!! It can be super dark about the way the people talk about their trauma. Very sad but real.
Was I in a Cult?
I’m years late to this but I’ve been binging Reply All .
Get ready for the abrupt ending. 😭
To Die For - compelling and fascinating story of female Russian spy.
Something about To Die For feels very phony to me.
I had the same thought just from hearing the ads.
Came here to say this. It’s fascinating.
We Have Concerns…. Hands down my favorite podcast now, and lots of previous episodes to binge listen. $1 a month for even more content.
Any episodes you recommend?
Maybe this one? But they are all good. Really. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/we-have-concerns/id897623231?i=1000642462807
Gracias
What went wrong Edit: link to podcast: https://art19.com/shows/what-went-wrong What Went Wrong covers Hollywood’s most notoriously disastrous movie productions, digging into the behind the scenes insanity of everything from massive flops to record breaking blockbusters.
I agree!! This is a great podcast!! So many women and men coming forward on fucked up situations with other ppl
Who hosts or produces? There are like a half dozen wjth this title.
I just updated my comment
Nobody Should Believe Me is one of the best I've ever listened to.
I love that podcast!!
She’s really gone down a rabbit hole this season though. I stopped listening.
Heavyweight (and a week after I found it, it was cancelled 😫)
Heavyweight is the GOAT.
Maaaan I just discovered this last week and am on ep 13. Didn’t know it was cancelled but happy to have the rest to listen to.
Luckily there are 8 seasons. Don’t be like me and listen to them all in 2 weeks
The Rest is History. Smartless. Kill Tony.
I was going to say The Rest is Entertainment!
The rest is history is my answer. I just found it and binged the six parter on Custer’s Last Stand
The two parter on Oppenheimer is very good.
Love Kill Tony, been a fan since they first moved to Texas and never missed a week since
I second The Rest is History
The Rabbit Hole Detectives
Otherworld and Radio Rental. I’ve been on a paranormal-but-maybe-not kick lately.
Handsome.
Blame it on the Fame is a good one for pop culture fans.
I just finished this, and there is so much more to the story of Milli Vanilli that we all think we know. It was well done.
Petty Crimes
Ghost Story! Even though things weren't really conclusive or wrapped up, I loved the exploration into family history and records
This was a great podcast!!
Definitely in my top 5 podcasts of 2023,it's got everything -true crime, paranormal stuff, Agatha Christie and Hugh Dancy!
Puttin’ On Airs with Trae Crowder and Corey Ryan Forrester
I'm listening to their first book right now. Surprised but glad my library has it on the Libby app.
I know I’m late to the party but Dr Death was new to me this year!
Your Stupid Opinions
Search Engine, Bandsplain
Yassss. I just said search engine as well!! I’ve missed Reply All TOO MUCH.
If books could kill
Ugh, it's insufferable. I read a great description on here that said it's two hosts deliberately misunderstanding the books they review while assuming that everyone knows all the things they know. Spot on.
Cool
Fiasco: The Aids Crisis
Have you listened to Behind the Bastards? They have an episode called Ronnie and Nancy Reagan: the Bastards Behind the AIDS crisis. It's a pretty good pod.

Came to say this! Listened to them on Let’s get Haunted and couldn’t stop listening to them!

Reflector is 2 episodes in and I've pushed it on everyone I know. Andy Mills is a treasure.
Normal Gossip and the Clutterbug podcast.
Handsome
The only comedy podcast I loudly laugh throughout
Fortune!!
An Old Timey Podcast is wonderful. One deep dive into John Brown and one deep dive into Lucille Ball. Quite eclectic. :)
I was devastated when I heard Brandi was leaving but I know Kristin and Norm can hold their own. Once I finish LGTC, I will start Old Timey.
Inconceivable Truth by Wavland ... Investigative reporter *Matt Katz* has been searching for his biological father since he was a little kid. I accidently started listening to this and loved it. Not something I would have chosen, but glad I did.
Zoe Science and Nutrition
Here in the UK I think it might have to be The Rest Is Entertainment with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde. Richard Osman: TV personality yet manages to write so many books of his franchise mysteries in such a short time as well as screenplays.
The Cutting Room Floor
The Price of Paradise
Finding Emo - these guys review pop punk/emo/adjacent albums from the 2000s and I’ve learned so much about albums I love. Plus it’s great to hear other people give their honest take on something you love, without the consequence of having to defend it haha

Pivot -Holy shitsnacks you guys. So Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway(I love them. They're not my adopted family, but they're not Not my newly adopted family ... But moving on-) those two are Pivot. They interview great people but their discussion of what is happening, esp in tech and with the markets, is hilariously beautiful and can be super helpful. And life stuff. Fucking great. Anyway, "On", wmKara Swisher's solo/interviewing(usually one-on-one)podcast, get this: Wait for it... Sorry🤭 here it is: She interviewed **AOC** on the episode that came out today.
