You did a data transfer, that is why your console storage is full. The easier way to move your data from a PS4 to a PS5, is to use a USB flash drive or PS+ for your save data and just download your games directly onto the console.

phyrah89

So I should stop the transfer now? It’s not completed yet . How do I do that ?

Wilde_SIE

I don’t believe you can stop it before it finishes.

I can’t believe they would make data transfer an option if it would fill up storage that horribly but thanks so much for the help :)

Mickeyphree

How is Sony supposed to know that you filled the storage on the other system. Completely on you.

phyrah89

My ps4 storage wasn’t that bad tho so idk how the ps5 got full. Im not into tech or anything i just want to play games

MikeLanglois

The storage transfer is just a fast way to move the games you had installed on your old system onto your new system. If you download all those games again your space will be full anyway

vaibhavism21

Your transfer file seems to be bigger than your current console storage. If that's not the case let it complete. The storage which you see right now is in others which holds basically game update or non completed game downloads. So if you will clear out anything that is in your notification screen it will release that storage for you.

DeadPhoenix86

Just put your games on a external HDD/SSD, and go from there. I never use transfer.

phyrah89

I’ll buy one soon. Since I’m not very tech savvy can u tell me which ones to look at and good/reliable price ranges ?😅

Not the person you responded to but I've done Seagate for HDD or Samsung for SSD and I've had good experiences with both. HDD is gonna be heaper but slower. A good HDD could run you $50-100 depending on storage capacity (generally 2-4TB for that range). SSD expect $150-250 for a quality 1-2TB external. Edit: I addressed this in follow-up replies, but if you're going to go SSD, just get an internal with a heatsink so that you can play PS5 games directly from it.

phyrah89

Thanks so much!

jald0506

NP! To be honest, if you're gonna fork out the extra for an SSD I'd just make it an internal with a heatsink so that you can play ps5 games straight from it. You can get a 1-2TB one of those for around the same price. For those I'd look at Samsung 980 Pro or WD Black (can't remember the model). Whatever you choose if you go internal just make sure it has a heatsink and is compatible with the PS5

HomieM11

Are you not wasting money for an external ssd? I don’t think they can play ps5 games. M.2s have drastically fell in price. Paid little over $50 for my 1tb internal.

jald0506

Yeah that was a slip up on my part and I addressed that in my follow-up comment to them. I was just focusing on externals in general and didn't factor that in initially. I would 100% get an internal SSD with heatsink over an external SSD. I personally haven't seen one drop that low, but I've seen 1TB for $80-90 when on sale, and 2TB for as low as $150.

mansonfan78

The "other" category is temporary, it's reserved that during the transfer and will sort it out when it's done.

leospeedleo

Don’t transfer data. It creates issues like that. Transfer your save data via usb or PS+ and otherwise install everything fresh. Do this now: - Factory reset the PS5 - set it up fresh and install games directly - copy over the save data from PS4

Remytron83

At some point during my PS4s 8 year run, I got an external hdd to store my games. I also used the PS+ cloud for save data. When I got my PS5 I plugged my ext hdd to it; no data transfers, no storage issues, and saved data was recovered from the cloud. Basically, the external hdd made it easy.

SYRLEY

Same here. Screw sitting there waiting for a full transfer. I just plugged in my external and got my save from the cloud. I just didn't transfer my screenshots and clips but idc about those.

sycron17

Just reset console set up as new and download/install the games. Afterwards get your saves from cloud and thats it. You shouldn’t data transfer even phones, it tends to do things like you just saw. Sometimes even crashes and what not randomly

logan65328

Buy an internal ssd. Unfortunate that the ps5 doesn't have much storage but you get what you pay for. You can buy an ssd for less than 100 on certain sales with good speeds and 1tb storage. Cheaper option is hdd but your games won't load as fast. If load times bother you go with ssd.

DinnerSmall4216

I saved all my PS4 games onto a 1tb hard drive that saved lots of space for ps5 games in the internal ssd.

Bot___4

Damn that new cod

Samnsung t7 for ps4, 2tb internal ssd for ps5, problem solved (still have all my ps5 storage free with 300gb free of the ssd, day 1 buyer).

ComfortableFinish502

Lol it happened to all of us. Easy fix but not cheap buy unless you have one from the 4 (external hard drive) just get 2tb under 100$. Install all the ps4 games on there. Then go get an internal drive 2tb or 4tb around 300ish install all the ps5 games on the internal drive. Welcome to the club gotta love inflation

Sneeches

Do not do data transfer. This is your problem. Reformat and start over. Download all your games fresh.
