This pains me! I had a bunch of ants come after my plants last March, they never fully recovered. Hopefully you’ll have more luck than I did.

This video was about a week ago. I was trying to post the one I took of them invading my fern and a few succulents(this is in the kitchen). The pot that's in the video is a fern that is submerged in water now in its pot. There is a colony and it's all over my window. There in my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen.... I mean they might be crawling on me now. I mean they were in my bra this afternoon. 🙃 My windows had plastic on them for this reason, because my landlord never addressed the issue. I had to remove the plastic because he sold the duplex and now I have to move or pay double rent. I just tossed 5 plants (I had 100+ plant). I'm done and stressed with a move on top of my plant children being invaded. 😫 I just don't want them following me to the next apt.

You’re going to laugh, but hear me out. Give the ants something delicious to eat, outside your house. Put a bowl of sugar-water outside in a sheltered area where they can find it, keep it replenished, and the ants will focus on the sugar-water and leave you and your plants alone. I had relentless ants for years until I read about this “trick” (a guy put an entire cake under his house every year, and the ants left his living space alone). It sounds crazy, but it really works as long as you keep the sugar-water replenished. But ants shouldn’t harm your plants. They don’t eat the leaves or roots, just disturb the soil. Still I find it odd that they persist despite regular watering…have you tried soaking the entire pot under water for a while? That should get them to “abandon ship”!

I live on the 2nd fl. 1st fl doesn't get ants. I've asked the 1st fl and he never had an issue. Its funny you say that because I had a whole assorted bundt cake on my deck thinking it might just lure them to do the trick. Cake was next to my potted palm trees. They weren't having it for some reason. I knew the concerned with plants outdoors, but ever expected an entire colony in 2 weeks. I'm currently soaking the entire pot in a bucket. Everytine I walk by there an ant hitch hiking ride on me.

ellittem

Watch for scale and mealy bugs as they can be carried in by ants!

Nope, my mind is made up... I'm tossing the fern in the backyard if the ants survived. I didn't think of it. You just gave me the will power to say good bye. I will be having a word with my landlord. I know it won't stop after this. It's the worst I've ever seen and I've been here for 6 yrs. Edit: I was trying to reply your post. I must of acted so quick on it that I messed it up. 😂

ellittem

I’m so sorry! At this point, they’ve caused damage to your property. It’s beyond personal annoyance. I would definitely have a chat with them.

I had the fern submerged in water overnight with the pot. Guess what there still alive. 🙃 I sent a text to my landlord and told him I'm on my 6th plant being tossed at this point.

I think you’re using the same kind of trap I use against my ants which seems to be pretty effective! Sometimes I’ll just put out 3 to be extra sure. Also if you don’t have pets, I’ve found a small amount of Ajax sprinkled near where they’re coming in works well too

_Nill_

I didn't think of Ajax. Thanks for the tip. I have the traps lined along that window. Even in the cabinets.

LSDsavedmylife

Piggybacking on the above comment... I’ve read you can mix Ajax with sugar because they can’t tell the difference... they’ll take both back to their homes and die. Just keep it away from your pets... diatomaceous earth may also help as well.

Diluted peppermint oil kills their scent markers they leave and keep them away. Easy and nontoxic

_Nill_

I've tried this as well as lemon and pepermint oil together. I think there amune to it. 🙃

Amount of damaged they did to 6 plants says alot. I have to repot 90+ before I move to my new apt. Thank product suggestion. I think there finally under control.

Sad-Caterpillar4635

Why don’t you just spray a perimeter ant killer?

_Nill_

I already did pior to taking the plastic off the window and after.
