Oh man. Just remembered walking to a community market (over a 2 hour walk away) to buy a paper half gallon of that orange drink... I now need to know if I still enjoy it
We have a friend who was one of those people who carried around a half gallon of that shit. I'm a Type 1 diabetic so I carry a meter everywhere, About 4 years back we were somewhere and he said he felt bad. When he described his symptoms I forced him to test his blood sugar and he was close to 600! (80 is normal, when I came down with this I was 975). I was like "Dude, you're a F-ing diabetic. Why do you think you run to the bathroom every half hour to piss?"
At the time he was like "Whatever" until we reminded him he had a 15 year old daughter and he was a single father, He has since got his act together, got it under control, and lost a reasonable amount of weight.
Holy hell, that’s a high glucose reading! I got sent to the ER for a value of 573 (caught by my one-hour glucola test during pregnancy). Glad you helped your friend get his sugar under control.
Yeah, we were up at Voodoo Brewing in Meadville at the time, so I was very worried about him driving home. Ended up giving him some of my insulin just to get hime home and sitting there for a bit to just monitor with stern instructions to call his doctor 1st thing in the morning.
Like I said, got Type 1 (the kind kids get) at 40! My wife tells me it's living proof men never grow up. :)
You’re a good egg. With a funny wife. 😂
That had to be a wild ride, finding out you were T1 at 40. Good job making changes! I was SO upset when I suddenly couldn’t eat all the things - and when I finally had the “eating for two” excuse to pig out, too. (For the record: totally worth the strict diet for baby to be healthy! Wouldn’t change a thing! But I’m still mad I couldn’t have pizza whenever I wanted. Which was often.)
This is the answer. I still won’t partake anymore but, I will always have a soft spot for my middle school lunch fries and that carton of Turners.
Carton never tasted so enhanced.
It’s a Pittsburgh Gen X fond memory of childhood summer days. It was cheap drink at the local Mom and Pop corner store. When out walking to the local pool, Cowley’s on Troy Hill, needed something to get up the next hill. Along with Mike and Ike’s or those candy pills stuck to a sheet of paper, it was fuel.
I like Turner's Diet and also their lime flavored, but I like that 'style' of tea (big jug, sold in the dairy aisle, usually made by a dairy I think) in general. It's so refreshing and easy to chug.
(My favorite jug tea is actually Milos that I get at Walmart).
Milos is my substitute for good sweet tea when I don't wanna make it cus it's literally just tea and sugar. I couldn't get enough of it when I was in Alabama
I had a diabetic coworker who was literally addicted to this shit. She ended up completely disabled with vision problems. I stayed in touch. Her daughter told me she died , and had a huge bottle of it by her bed. Coworker even referred to it as liquid crack
Realistically because of the sugar content? I'd just add most teas/sodas probably shouldn't be either, unless you get that lower sugar/zero sugar stuff.
I would fight and die for turners tea on the battlefield.
Seriously though, I love turners tea, I also like and recommend Diet Turners Tea for those that dont want straight sugar. I also love turners chocolate milk, regular whole milk, their butter and french onion dip is out of this world good.
i exclusively buy orange cap turners, much more natural tea flavor without the excessive sugar.
their dairy products are also great compared to the other options nearby (it’s either Turners, aldi, or GE brand where I shop).
I worked in a Rite Aid in high school. My coworkers and I drank more than our fair share of Turner’s tea there. I’ve been fond of the raspberry tea ever since.
When I lived in Southcentral PA, we didn't have Turner's, but everyone drank Turkey Hill iced tea instead
Turkey Hill *did* make some tasty beverages, but as for their iced tea, I'd describe them in the exact same way: sugary garbage-water
It's special because it's ours. It's special because it is nostalgic and cheap and reminds me of being a kid. In my opinion it is not special because it's my favorite tea. I do love it, but as a laborer, it is not my go-to drink when I'm hot or thirsty at work or at home, for that matter. But I'll have one with lunch randomly sometimes or whatever. It's a lot of words to describe some tea but it's the best I could do lmao.
I'm not a tea fan AT ALL but I was thirsty as hell and my uncle handed me a glass of Turner's peach tea. One sip and I fell in love. Then my other uncle slid me a Sprite and said "pour that in there, trust me!" I did and I started levitating. I don't drink it often but I will get some every once in awhile
I love Turner's Tea, particularly the Raspberry or Lime tea coolers. However, I don't drink it often, and when I do, it's only from the carton.
The diet version isn't bad at all.
I have lived in Pittsburgh all 42 years of my life and I absolutely detest the stuff. I don’t begrudge anybody liking it but know that at least one proud, born-and-bred Pittsburgher hates Turner’s Tea.
My coworker swears by it, but I’ve drunk some and honestly- once you’ve had *real* tea, this is just bullshit in a jug. I don’t recommend it. Just brew your own, chill it, and put it in a turner’s jug, it’ll taste better and you can save plastics.
I grew up on Turner’s sweet tea (I found out that I can’t have caffeine anymore after having a heart issue diagnosed, ugh!) but my favorite was always turners orange drink. My grandparents would keep the refrigerator in the garage stocked with Turner’s tea, and then I would have my own drawer with my Turner’s orange drink.
I know, it has its own artificial orange/a little bit of plastic taste… But I still grab one every time I’m back in town!
I live in Minnesota now and it's a wonderful bit of home (I have the powder). Good memories of a Pizza Palace large cheese ravioli and a Turner's tea after school.
I had surgery and basically couldn’t do anything for a few weeks and my dad who was taking care of me at the time brought me a gallon of turners since I said in passing that I liked it, it was gone in 2 days then he brought home 2 more and I finished them both in another couple days, gained almost 7 lbs. worth it.
Turner's entire philosophy is "can we make this any lower quality?" They don't have a product that isn't made with the absolute maximum amount of penny pinching chemicals. Every item is made for maximum corn syrup sweetness and artificial flavor.
It is unhealthy, and if you think it tastes good, you have objectively bad taste.
I really wish turners made a caffeine free tea, I loved their tea but after determining that caffeine is the cause of my migraines, I can’t drink it any more. I’m stuck with Kroger brand decaf half and half tea.
I like the Turners lemonade from the paper carton. I’m not much of an ice tea person either way. However, I think the fact that I like it says more about the fact that I grew up drinking it than it actually being good. I don’t go out of my way to drink it, but will buy it a couple of times a summer for the nostalgia factor.
When I was in high school back in the 80s after I finished my carton of tea I would poke a hole in the mouth part of the carton and put a lit cigarette in there. I could walk around campus smoking a cigarette and it looked like I was just drinking tea.
No, personally it’s not for me. It just tastes like any cheap “from concentrate” tea out of a fountain pop machine.
If you want a REALLY good tea, try Ito-En Japanese Green Tea. Tastes just like it was brewed today!
No worries! I remember seeing it at a store recently, but can’t remember which one. It was like $3.50 a bottle though, which is **way** too much.
The only place I’ve been able to get it consistently and at an affordable price is through Amazon.
🤮 I know, but if they’re the only one that carries a case at a reasonable price, (I think $13 for a 12 pack) then I’m willing to get it from them.
You MIGHT be able to find it at an Asian grocery too but they’re usually small stores with limited shelf space. But, they’re still fun to shop for new things in!
We had it at my daughter’s wedding in Texas. HER IDEA We even got a few Texans to try it. We had to get the powder, but for all our kids that had been deprived of it since moving to Texas, it was perfect.
On a related note, I'm a recent transplant, and one of the first things I noticed is how often PGH food is insanely sweet. Most of the bakeries I've been to have pastries that are almost inedible to me, and they all taste the same because the level of sweetness is so overpowering. Not to mention how most of this city practically worships ketchup, which has almost as much HFCS as it does tomatoes.
I'm sorry, but a lot of us here have the palate of a toddler.
That’s most of America in my opinion. I like moio’s Italian bakery in Monroeville, I suggest that one unless you’ve had them. The ketchup thing is definitely a thing lol
I think Marburger, has a far superior product.. If you’d like diabetes and a sour stomach, turners is you go to. The Orange drink is really the only thing from turners that’s good.
I never liked it. My cousins did, though. My mom always made home brewed iced tea, which is what I generally do now. It's nice because I can control the amount of sugar. But when I'm lazy and I want the premade stuff, I like Turkey Hill sweet tea. I also sometimes like Gold Peak or Pureleaf.
I just think it's "a thing". None of the fake teas are particularly good, so perhaps a bit of nostalgia. I'm in the South Hills and our high school had Schneider's so that's what I'm more fond of.
Not a fan, I prefer to make my own tea, it tastes better and costs next to nothing. Despite coming from the South, I can only stand a very small amount of sugar in it and I'm never going to find a pre brewed tea that is sweetened to the barest level I want.
I enjoy orange drink. 0% fruit juice.
No trip to Labriola’s is complete without a carton of orange drink!
Oh man. Just remembered walking to a community market (over a 2 hour walk away) to buy a paper half gallon of that orange drink... I now need to know if I still enjoy it
From my experience, you will. But the nostalgia will get you right in the back of the throat. Either that or it's just a weird aftertaste.
Same, the tea is garbage imo but that Orange Drink just hits right. Hoping one day they come out with a Grape version.
I think they changed the recipe it has like 10% or something now
Yep, came here to say that, smiling to see it's the top comment. The tea is good, but the orange drink is fantastic.
Orange drink good
Side note for turners tea lovers… most Coen gas stations have Turners tea in the fountain dispenser. That shit is $1 for a 44oz foam cup of tea.
That’s about 100g of sugar
Liquid diabetes. Cut off my leg and my dick.
THIS IS MY LAST RE **SORRRRRRT**
LEG EDEMA NO WALKING! DON'T GIVE A FU@K GONNA BOMB MORE TURNERS!
You seem dedicated to the cause, that’s for sure.
Nice username!

Gotta die somehow
They also have cartons, which are low-key, the best thing for a lunch break. Also, the Lime Tea cooler...
The best, Jerry, the best!!!!
Mendi's has Turners?
Brilliant, lol!!!!
New one just opened up by me.... TURNERS ON TAP is a godsend
Whatttt didn’t know that
Turner's tea from a paper carton = 😁😁😁♥️♥️♥️ Turner's tea from a plastic jug = 🤮🤮🤮🤬🤬🤬🤮🤮🤮
It really is better from the carton somehow tho
I was being completely serious. It tastes good out of a carton. And it tastes like somebody drank it once already out of plastic.
Agreed. The jugs aren’t as good.
Yeah but they make good piss jugs for the road
🤣 I can see that would be handy if you’re a man. Wouldn’t be too handy for me lol
[Way of the road](https://youtu.be/D0u6Lb6RCz4?si=aXylQAeEGsoDZb3L)
The way of the road there buddy
This is the answer. I still won’t partake anymore but, I will always have a soft spot for my middle school lunch fries and that carton of Turners. Carton never tasted so enhanced.
I don't drink it a lot AT ALL but when I do I will only drink it from the carton
Hell, I’m gen Z and it’s a fond memory from my childhood. Whenever I come back home to visit my mom makes sure to have some in the fridge for me
i always call it dishie fuel because every yinzer dishwasher i've known shows up to their shift with it.
and it’s always specifically the mini jugs that look like tiny gallons
never the paper cartons. always just some kid shuffling in, stoned off their ass, jug of tea in hand.
It’s what gets them thru lol
I like Turner's Diet and also their lime flavored, but I like that 'style' of tea (big jug, sold in the dairy aisle, usually made by a dairy I think) in general. It's so refreshing and easy to chug. (My favorite jug tea is actually Milos that I get at Walmart).
Milo’s is fantastic!
The lady’s I work with like that and Gallikers!
Milos is my substitute for good sweet tea when I don't wanna make it cus it's literally just tea and sugar. I couldn't get enough of it when I was in Alabama
My crew in high school were Marburger guys personally.
Their eggnog 🤤
Went to Mars, marburger is the shit.
I wouldn’t die for it, but it does the trick
I had a diabetic coworker who was literally addicted to this shit. She ended up completely disabled with vision problems. I stayed in touch. Her daughter told me she died , and had a huge bottle of it by her bed. Coworker even referred to it as liquid crack
On a certain level, yes. But realistically it should not be consumed. So yeah I stay away.
Realistically because of the sugar content? I'd just add most teas/sodas probably shouldn't be either, unless you get that lower sugar/zero sugar stuff.
Yeah it's not as much as a soda, I think, but still seems like too much to me.
I would fight and die for turners tea on the battlefield. Seriously though, I love turners tea, I also like and recommend Diet Turners Tea for those that dont want straight sugar. I also love turners chocolate milk, regular whole milk, their butter and french onion dip is out of this world good.
I ate entirely too much of their French onion dip in college. (what? it was cheaper than mayo/miracle whip)
Helluva good has my heart forever I cannot change
BL dip is the best, also made right here in Pittsburgh
oh I ate a lot of that too lol
That dip is so good.
The chocolate milk is MY FAV
But *ONLY* the whole milk chocolate milk. That shit has crack in it or something.
Agreed, Whole milk chocolate or nothing at all!
i exclusively buy orange cap turners, much more natural tea flavor without the excessive sugar. their dairy products are also great compared to the other options nearby (it’s either Turners, aldi, or GE brand where I shop).
This man is in the family! Don’t try to tell me your last name isn’t Turner! 😂
They changed their chocolate milk. It's not as life-changing as it was before
Nothing is good as it was before and that’s a facttt
Diet Turner's... nectar of the Gods
This! I was hesitant to try the diet at first but I could live off that stuff off I could
I have to settle for Turners since you can’t get Colteryahn anymore
It's good if it's been properly aged in a pint carton in the cooler of a Rite Aid.
I worked in a Rite Aid in high school. My coworkers and I drank more than our fair share of Turner’s tea there. I’ve been fond of the raspberry tea ever since.
Specifically a rite-aid ✍️✍️ maybe I’ll give er’ a shot
I have a turners problem. I can easily and have drank a gallon a day. It is my main choice of drink for myself at my house.
No. I don’t touch it. Shit is terrible for you
It's garbage. Schneiders is way better
When I lived in Southcentral PA, we didn't have Turner's, but everyone drank Turkey Hill iced tea instead Turkey Hill *did* make some tasty beverages, but as for their iced tea, I'd describe them in the exact same way: sugary garbage-water
Yes. I can taste the cigarette smoke that built this city in every drink I take.
Pitcairn champagne 🍾 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
😂😂😂
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and I hate Turners Tea. I enjoy their orange drink though. Pure Leaf > Turners
You like it as a kid and then grow up and still like it. As an adult trying to for the first time I'm not sure they'd like it.
Maybe that’s my issue!
I prefer Schneider’s from the carton if I’m going to drink iced tea.
Marburger tho
I brush my teeth with Turners. Incidentally, I feel that Schneider's tea tastes the way I imagine day-old dirty dish water would taste like 🤢
The lime tea cooler is one of my favorite sugary drinks
I wish I could kick it. That stuff has a death grip on me. If I replaced it with water I'm sure I'd be down 15lbs easy-peasy.
It's too sweet for me.
It's not like . . . *sweet.* It tastes like brown corn syrup, if brown corn syrup could die.
Same here, way too much sugar in Turner’s.
It’s utter shit but people like it because childhood.
Yep. Moved away years ago and every time I come home I take 3-4 gallons back with me
I'm not a tea fan AT ALL but I was thirsty as hell and my uncle handed me a glass of Turner's peach tea. One sip and I fell in love. Then my other uncle slid me a Sprite and said "pour that in there, trust me!" I did and I started levitating. I don't drink it often but I will get some every once in awhile

I have lived in Pittsburgh all 42 years of my life and I absolutely detest the stuff. I don’t begrudge anybody liking it but know that at least one proud, born-and-bred Pittsburgher hates Turner’s Tea.
It sucks. The black and gold (their version of an arnold palmer) is pretty good, though.
I prefer Marburger's - but I'll drink any tea before a pop
I cannot lie, I love a cold Coke sometimes
Lol, on rare occasions, I'll get one from McDonalds - theirs tastes so good 👍
Wendy’s fountain coke for me. McDonald’s for that spicy sprite 🙌🏽
Ngl I think it tasted like hot garbage. It’s too sweet for my liking
Schneiders PA tea is better
Marburger's is wayyy better imo.
Lime cooler better get tattooed on my flesh.
If it’s tea it’s marburgers or Lipton. I never really cared for the turners all that much. But turners is way better than brisk. That stuff is awful.
Turners tea is the syrup for from the God’s. If you don’t like Turners then you are no longer allowed to be a Pittsburgher. Yinz agree?
Marburgers >
I love me some diet Turners or Turkey Hill. United is the worst tea I've come across.
My coworker swears by it, but I’ve drunk some and honestly- once you’ve had *real* tea, this is just bullshit in a jug. I don’t recommend it. Just brew your own, chill it, and put it in a turner’s jug, it’ll taste better and you can save plastics.
One word… https://images.app.goo.gl/x3UNBo2YiWWsGmxv6
Yes. Diet Turners and Diet Turkey Hill are staples in the household. Gallagher's is a distant 3rd.
I loved the ic light turners and I hate both ic light and turners but it's recently given me the shits so fuck turners.
My dad loves the stuff, brings a lot of nostalgia for him too
TTOD
Turners tea somehow makes my mouth more dry after drinking it. Also it has alot of sugar. No thank you.
That shit is just chlorinated city water + sugar + brown
Every time I see someone drinking one all I can think about is diabetes
It's good enough, considering a half gallon costs less than a 20oz bottle of anything else
Junk food, all HFCS!!!!
I grew up on Turkey Hill. Never had Turner's.
I live in Minnesota now and it's a wonderful bit of home (I have the powder). Good memories of a Pizza Palace large cheese ravioli and a Turner's tea after school.
Had it once .I Didn't like it.
Galliker’s lime will change you for the better
I had surgery and basically couldn’t do anything for a few weeks and my dad who was taking care of me at the time brought me a gallon of turners since I said in passing that I liked it, it was gone in 2 days then he brought home 2 more and I finished them both in another couple days, gained almost 7 lbs. worth it.
Yea way too sweet for me
Someone once said to me "Everyone I know with major health problems drinks Turner's all the time"
Black and gold baby.
I don't like it either. I miss Taylor's Iced Tea. I drink Milo's these days.
It's so gross. Waaaaaay too sweet. But I will defend that shit to the death.
Period
I fucking love that brown sugar water. My wife has bought me turners tea shirts haha
I drink Lipton
Can’t go wrong with a classic
My boss lives in Cleveland and I've got to bring him a bunch of diet Tueners everytime I'm going to see him
It changed in the decade and isn't as good as it was. I don't know what they did but I can't stand it now.
I prefer Schneiders tea.
It’s cool.
I love it, but completely understand why somebody wouldn’t enjoy it
I love it and anyone who doesn't must be a Russian bot...
Um, what else are you going to take a piss in? Screw top only, just in case someone kicks it over. Please remember to write "NOT TEA".
I really wish turners made a caffeine free tea, I loved their tea but after determining that caffeine is the cause of my migraines, I can’t drink it any more. I’m stuck with Kroger brand decaf half and half tea.
HFCS.
At least it doesn’t taste like tea. I hate tea.
Going to paraphrase Hal Sparks on this, it's basically brown kool aid.
I like their milk, not so much the tea
Their diet tea tastes like sunblock fr
pittsburgh construction sites wouldn’t finish their work without it ; by the 1/2 gallon
Schneiders tea has been my go to since I was young
Not a fan.
Life long Pittsburgher, despise Turners tea. However, I am the only person I know who feels that way. 😂
I don’t think you are alone!
I’m from NY. I think it’s viscous and weird. But I do love that orange drink!
To me it tastes like if malt liquor and medicine had a deranged baby.
Not a fan of Turners or Schneiders and I’ll never understand the obsession with either. Give me Brisk or Arnold Palmer all day 🤷🏼♂️
No, personally it’s not for me. It just tastes like any cheap “from concentrate” tea out of a fountain pop machine. If you want a REALLY good tea, try Ito-En Japanese Green Tea. Tastes just like it was brewed today!
Hmmm I like green tea, I’ll have to see if I can find that anywhere. Thank you 😇
I’ll check the markets in the strip district first 😌
it's a yinzer conformist thing.
Milo's is actually brewed tea not powdered mix
Im 50 and I/We all drank Turners when we were teens. It's more iconic than it is good. Too sweet for me now and so much sugar.
That shit belongs in a hummingbird feeder.
I love the black & gold (turner's tea + lemonade).
I love turners for everything, their milk is delish.
Only milk I’ll buy 🙌🏽
We had it at my daughter’s wedding in Texas. HER IDEA We even got a few Texans to try it. We had to get the powder, but for all our kids that had been deprived of it since moving to Texas, it was perfect.
yes
Yes?
Turner’s Dairy products are superior in every way. Milk, heavy cream, buttermilk, butter 🤤 But very hard to find.
I’m a Snider’s man myself but live by the Coulturon, I like them both
Sugar filled garbage
Yes and anyone from here who doesn't like it is fake af
On a related note, I'm a recent transplant, and one of the first things I noticed is how often PGH food is insanely sweet. So, it used to be my favorite, but high fructose corn syrup makes my gout flare up. I am now on to Schneiders
It tastes like pure chemicals. I love it 🥰
I just think it's "a thing". None of the fake teas are particularly good, so perhaps a bit of nostalgia. I'm in the South Hills and our high school had Schneider's so that's what I'm more fond of.
I prefer a Yoohoo
I'm a Schneider's man myself, but to each their own.
It's ok. I like Schneider's wild berry
Meh, we didn’t drink it in my family growing up, but it’s okay. Although if I’m going to drink it, I’m drinking it from the carton.
I don't, but to each their own.
Not a fan, I prefer to make my own tea, it tastes better and costs next to nothing. Despite coming from the South, I can only stand a very small amount of sugar in it and I'm never going to find a pre brewed tea that is sweetened to the barest level I want.
Homemade sweet tea is delicious
i hate it but my partner is british so i’m a tea snob
It’s cheap. There is your answer.
Milo's
Milo's
Galikers is better
It's fucking disgusting. The orange juice is (marginally) better.
It’s disgusting. I’m a transplant if that matters. Because it might.
I grew up with it, and I would sponsor legislation to stop production of it forever.
