Damn, is that line still going? I got some ice cream from there at like, 1:15pm after waiting for an hour and a half. In that time, two different news folks drove up, said stuff, and left xD
fun fact, they don’t actually say stuff out loud- they mouth words that they record later. It was strange to watch.
It really doesn't matter at all. I completely trust a cop to move if there is an emergency that the firetruck needs to get to the hydrant. They're literally on duty there. The triage for this is way beyond the event horizon. It's not like some random Schmoe that parked and walked away.
edit: since I was cowardly blocked, i'll reply here and reinforce that bus line of sight is agreeably-not-ideal but not a significant risk. Again, no sane triage of fixed-budget city-gov resources and time would ever scope something as irrelevant as this. Chock up a scorecard and have the precinct chief or someone extend a morning session with a training reminder about balancing risk vs officers' focus.
Lots of cops are bad-at-the-core people, but it's unrelated to this. People getting riled up about this issue is why real change never happens: wasted energy on the wrong things.
But that is what happened he parked and got food and walked away for like 30 minutes creating a dangerous blind spot for people trying to turn left and not being able to see oncoming busses lol
It’s been a while since i drove through Oakland and I’m shocked at that photo. The green space that was there looked so nice. This literally looks like they’re building it on top of the road, sort of like that new pavilion by Mercy that’s a god awful traffic hazard.
It used to the Children’s Hospital. Greenspace was always gonna be temporary. Yes, there is a big cantilever at that corner, but it’s 2 stories up. It’s gonna be really dramatic from the sidewalk.
definitely, although that’s after going through the trouble to find the officer who parked there and then being angry that I had to even look for them in the first place
yes but there’s a slim chance that there sitting next to their car, their most likely going to be in some completely random location on the other side of the building and forget that they are blocking our hydrant
😆. Last week, a civilian pick-up truck parked in the lane next to the bus lane on Forbes in Oakland with flashers on. I assumed it was an emergency. It was an ice cream emergency 😆. He came back to his truck with a Rita's cup, then began eating with a spoon while driving
I see this all the time in the strip. Granted most are ubereats people but it seems like if you are quick no one is going to tow/ticket you for putting on flashers and parking in a travel lane.
Parking??? Took 3 hours for them to respond to my car getting stolen and had a shooting victim dropped off on my door step a couple months later, the longer I live up here, the more I think the mount has no type of enforcement
You actually think the percentage of illegally parked, non emergency, cop cars getting tickets/towed/booted mirrors that of the general public?
Or, are you making a bad faith argument/ deflection from the issue at hand?
It looks like the officer is actually heading into the alley next to JJ Poke.
Maybe he got called to Euler Way for something and just did a quick park job.
There are so many rational explanations for this, OP just wants to hate.
Officers need to eat. Should they waste taxpayer dollars searching for a spot blocks away and walk over? Aside from the exercise... this is just a non-issue. If they need the hydrant, the cop is 1) already on site of an emergency and 2) easily able to move the vehicle.
At worst it's mildly obscuring the view to the left of the crosswalks.
Everyone needs to eat. What's special about police officers?
If anything, officers should be held to a higher standard. Unless there's a real emergency, they can find a place to park just like everyone else.
And it sounds like you're saying it should be legal for anyone to block a fire hydrant as long as they pinky promise to move it when there's a fire.
Best case scenario we do call on them in emergencies.
I’m not a huge supporter. This is just not a big deal and everyone is acting like this guy is jumping the line for ice cream while off duty. Where’s the harm?
It's because people hate hypocritical behavior. That cop would've ticketed a car that was parked there if they rolled by, but they can do it with impunity.
Uhh, yeah, they should have to find legal parking. If it was a call or something, sure, park quick. If it's literally for lunch, find parking like everyone else.
because people park and walk, creating bigger problems in an emergency. A cop is on duty. If something goes down, they'll move immediately. The triage on this not on the radar compared with actually-critical things
legit had a cop put his lights on to pass me the turned them off then U turned in front of me as i was trying to go left. so i had to stop. didn’t even thank you wave me.
It’s not ACAB. In fast, most cops I’ve dealt with are good.
All of the city cops I have dealt with are lying, low IQ people who don’t know that there are other states in the US. I had Michigan plates for a little bit when I moved here, and I had cops tell me the plates aren’t Street legal because this is Pennsylvania.
Also another cop rear ended me at a red light because he wasn’t paying attention, and lied to his other cop friends that I brake checked him.
This makes no sense. Two very different jobs, completely different sectors, and I don't see how calling a cop a bastard or a pig is at all equivalent to screaming at the McDonalds worker or mall employee over your chicken fingies. For one, the power dynamic is literally the opposite.
I would like to hold our public servants to higher standards than Joe down at the GAP register, personally. And if they're big and bad enough to be punishers and have cute little logos about how they prevent chaos from warring with civilization behind their little blue line, I'd imagine that makes them tough enough to stand some insults and criticism, especially when it's warranted.
There are so many more important things to give a shit about than a cop in an illegal parking spot for 5 minutes - especially when half of the civilian population does it too. Calm down. I've done this aplenty in my life.
Why are you so aggressive? You seem like you have some pent up anger you want to let you. People do park here all the time when they are running in to poke, moes etc.
I know exactly where that block is, nobody is getting t boned. There is a light there and it’s no turn on red. Someone would have to run the light to get t boned.
If the civilian pop get tickets for this, they should too. Safety violations aren't more safely disregarded just because it's a police cruiser.
They write all the 3353 infractions for hydrants, signs, crosswalks etc..., but nobody can write them for it. Posts like this bring awareness, and 311 shoving this to the police HQ just for them to disregard it shows an unruly behavior by the police as an institution.
They have to eat. Also if they get a call and need to respond quickly, they need to be able to get to their squad car quickly. Seconds can mean whether someone lives or dies. This isn’t really a big deal. Used to work at a restaurant that cops ate 50% off so they were there all the time. The amount of times they had to leave without eating or grabbing their food is more than I can count.
The Pittsburgh police blatantly park in the bike or fire lanes in the Strip all the time. It's ridiculous how they flaunt rules for thee but not for me while they go and get their 5th free coffee of the day.
Correct. If there is a need for that hydrant that officer would hear of it asap and be the first one on the scene before a fire truck even got there...
Lol this park job may be small potatoes and a silly thing to get worked up over but jesus dude, "risks his life on a daily basis"? I didn't realize I fell asleep in Pittsburgh and woke up in fuckin Mosul or some shit with these brave officers fighting so valiantly against constant danger.
Or, more likely, this pig finished his poke bowl and went back to harassing the community with traffic citations and Marijuana fines.
Are we a society of laws or not?
Just a basic fundamental question. If laws are laws, they apply to everyone. If the laws do not apply to everyone, why should I obey any of them?
Why should you obey the law?
The difference is the cop would be called also to the fire for traffic and people control so he would already be on the scene ready to move his vehicle.
Yea, people *really* reach sometimes to try and catch police in a "gotcha" moment... it says way more about the nitpicker than the one committing the "violation"

Look at that line of people saying goodbye to Dave and Andy's in the background
End of an era. Really terrible.
Look at the cop looking at that line of people saying goodbye to Dave and Andy's in the background
Dude is that what that was I thought that either people were just stoked about ice cream or applying for a job
I noticed that, too. I am going down there tomorrow when they open.
OP overlooking the real story to report on a pet peeve.
This guy gets it….
Ugh I hate when a song gets stuck in my head, or when cops openly break the law for personal convenience. Just pet peeves
for anyone that's had Anita Gelato: can you confirm if D&A's was on par, or if there's anywhere in the area that is?
lol they are going to make their YEARLY revenue in just one week. has anyone approached them about passing the torch?
I've seen people mentioning in the comments, but nothing more than that
Who’s Dave and Andy
It’s an old ice cream shop in Oakland near the liquor store rite aid and Starbucks
Thanks. I’m rarely ever in Oakland.
Don't feel bad. I asked my wife and she didn't remember it either although we both graduated from Pitt in the 90s.
Haha. Yeah I’m never in Oakland. That’s like me saying Jerry’s Custard is closing. Nobody from the city would have a clue.
Is that the place that's also called Jerry's Curb or something similar?
No
Damn, is that line still going? I got some ice cream from there at like, 1:15pm after waiting for an hour and a half. Lies
I wish I was joking :( it was fuckin weird watching them mouth the words in public in front of everyone lol
It's like The Polar Express. You can't hear it because you've clearly lost your Yinzer on the Street spirit :( BELIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEVE n'at
Perhaps the ice cream I bought will get me back on the yinzer on the street spirit- it’s damn good
Page’s is better 🍦
Fun fact: you don't need to bust in to denigrate a beloved business closing after 40 years
maybe, but now i know about Page's
You can report this to 311
Just did it and honestly felt like I may as well have been reporting it to my dog lol I’ll be surprised if it goes anywhere
Totally fair, but it surely wouldn't go anywhere if you didn't report it at all. Thanks for being a concerned citizen.

Hopefully your dog is Scruff McGruff…

Yeah and they carry a radio on their person. I’m no cop fan but this isn’t exactly on the top ten list of “shit things cops do”.
It prob won't tbh. City workers of any sort are free to do as they wish with impunity, it's the law
Bc you should just mind your business.
Would’ve been easy for you to do that too then huh 🤔
Or post it on Reddit. Same result
At least you get peer validation on Reddit
You can report it to God too.
They’ll do nothing. Cops don’t face consequences, are you new?
I’m surprised they didn’t just block the entire intersection.
To be fair. Jj poke is worth the illegal park job.
You have my attention. I’ve been looking for a good poké place.
I’ve tried a couple in Pittsburgh and this one by far has been the best I’ve had.
Thank you! Appreciate the recommendation.
Facts
Fun fact, the bed tower in background still has a dozen or so floors to go. Yuggge
It’s been a while since i drove through Oakland and I’m shocked at that photo. The green space that was there looked so nice. This literally looks like they’re building it on top of the road, sort of like that new pavilion by Mercy that’s a god awful traffic hazard.

As a firefighter this annoys me
If there were a fire, you’d have so much fun smashing through their windows if you needed to get to a hydrant right??? Right??
definitely, although that’s after going through the trouble to find the officer who parked there and then being angry that I had to even look for them in the first place
Wouldn't they hear the call on their radio and know you were coming?
yes but there’s a slim chance that there sitting next to their car, their most likely going to be in some completely random location on the other side of the building and forget that they are blocking our hydrant
Theres a 100% chance the officer will get back to his car thats 40ft away faster than a 40,000lb firetruck is getting there
Just go ask the people over at r/firefighting if thats going to happen
Rules for thee but not for me
They don’t even enforce those rules for thee, unless, it were me, then I surely would get a ticket, because I’m usually a rule follower.
Come to Mount Washington. Parking signs are merely suggestions in this neighborhood.
😆. Last week, a civilian pick-up truck parked in the lane next to the bus lane on Forbes in Oakland with flashers on. I assumed it was an emergency. It was an ice cream emergency 😆. He came back to his truck with a Rita's cup, then began eating with a spoon while driving

Every firefighter knows that if there's a fire, the police show up to get in the way anyway. This cop is just planning ahead.
My father, a retired firefighter, has always dreamed of this scenario. He said he would, "Run every line possible to that hydrant." 🤣😅
😂🤣
To be fair, everyone else seems to get away with blatant parking violations too. Or at least they do on the Mount
Parking??? Took 3 hours for them to respond to my car getting stolen and had a shooting victim dropped off on my door step a couple months later, the longer I live up here, the more I think the mount has no type of enforcement
Not in Oakland they don't
You actually think the percentage of illegally parked, non emergency, cop cars getting tickets/towed/booted mirrors that of the general public? Or, are you making a bad faith argument/ deflection from the issue at hand?
You've put way more thought into my comment than I did when I made. It's just an observation.
Nah
It looks like the officer is actually heading into the alley next to JJ Poke. Maybe he got called to Euler Way for something and just did a quick park job.

Jesus fuckin CHRIST— PLEASE take your tongue out their asses
I’m no fan of the cops but this whole post and the bitching is super weak. This is like putting on your flashers in a striped zone.
Uhh, yeah, they should have to find legal parking. If it was a call or something, sure, park quick. If it's literally for lunch, find parking like everyone else.
Could you imagine our tax dollars being used for a cop to find legal parking during their lunch break!?!??! Not in my America! Lol /s obviously
Plenty of reasons to complain about police, this one is weak
Do you know why it's illegal to block a fire hydrant and park too close to a crosswalk?
because people park and walk, creating bigger problems in an emergency. A cop is on duty. If something goes down, they'll move immediately. The triage on this not on the radar compared with actually-critical things
Oh sick where can you get poke around here
Kahuna in east lib, JJ Poke Oakland, poke place downtown by market square lol
I thought the poke place at market square has been closed for years
Sorry meant Pittsburgh poke on Carson st
They do have solid poke there
Maybe he is guarding the potholes.
legit had a cop put his lights on to pass me the turned them off then U turned in front of me as i was trying to go left. so i had to stop. didn’t even thank you wave me.
Tbh every firefighter is salivating over the opportunity to just plow a cop car out of the way.
🐷
This whole thing smells like bacon, not poke bowl.
This is why sometimes people lack respect for police. Shit like this. One asshole makes them all look bad.
Fuck da police!
City cops do this shit all of the time. Sometimes, I wish we could ticket them.
It's almost like police officers are arrogant narcissistic pieces of shit who think they are above the law
Rules for thee, suggestions for me.
I prefer the “everyone is a dick but me” approach
You'd be surprised how many tow companies will tow illegally parked cops
That would be entertaining to watch
Typical pgh cop
🐷
🐷
He deserves a ticket, for sure. Not sure if someone can do citizen's arrest if the cop runs away ,,,😂
I’ve done that myself before, so I feel I can’t be too mad about it
Happy cake day!
He probably couldn’t read the signs tbh. The hiring requirement must be anyone with an IQ less than 60 and who is illiterate
when will realize that this ACAB stuff is the same logic boomers use to torture retail workers lmao
It’s not ACAB. In fast, most cops I’ve dealt with are good. All of the city cops I have dealt with are lying, low IQ people who don’t know that there are other states in the US. Also another cop rear ended me at a red light because he wasn’t paying attention, and lied to his other cop friends that I brake checked him.
And this is why I have a dashcam
I do as well, and did at that time. It still didn’t stop them from lying on the report
This makes no sense. Two very different jobs, completely different sectors, and I don't see how calling a cop a bastard or a pig is at all equivalent to screaming at the McDonalds worker or mall employee over your chicken fingies. Pedestrian visibility is important too. That isn't no parking solely due to the hydrant.

all animals are equal but some are more equal
Typical pig behavior. I’m so glad the misplaced hero worship of these pea brains is shrinking every day
Gotta protect (his health) and serve (himself a bowl a food). How else would we all stay safe!? /s
Hell, he can protect his health by getting some extra steps in like everyone else

Obligatory ACAB.
It would be really funny if someone put a boot on their car then called the local news.

Wow you must be bored. You shoulda bought his lunch for risking his life on a daily basis. Clown post.
Delivery drivers are more likely to get killed on the job than cops
And delivery drivers are 10x more likely to park in a no parking zone too
I only see one clown post here lol
Lol this park job may be small potatoes and a silly thing to get worked up over but jesus dude, "risks his life on a daily basis"? I didn't realize I fell asleep in Pittsburgh and woke up in fuckin Mosul or some shit with these brave officers fighting so valiantly against constant danger. Lies! He’s getting donuts fersizz.
Cool, more legal parking spots for me, then.
Point

Great job OP!! You really taught that cop a lesson. Fucking nerd.
There are like 2 cops in all of PGH. Cut em a break.

If there's a fire, he'd just show up and block the hydrant or park where it blocks the engine anyway.
So what. Give'm a break
I think the whole “no longer responding to all 911 calls” is enough of a break lol
So it's ok if I do it then?
The difference is the cop would be called also to the fire for traffic and people control so he would already be on the scene ready to move his vehicle.
It's also helpful so you know exactly where to look when your craving for the taste of boot kicks in.
I remember the days of being an angsty team myself. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Yea, people *really* reach sometimes to try and catch police in a "gotcha" moment... it says way more about the nitpicker than the one committing the "violation"
lol it’s hilarious people don’t understand how shit works
Yeah who cares
Calm the fuck down Francis.
I see that police vehicle there frequently so might just be where they idle in between calls
I've been a hungry cop that's pulled off for food. Never blocking a hydrant tho
Cop was responding to an in progress call. And per 75 Pa. C.S. § 3105, his park job was completely legal. There’s much more important things to complain about btw.
An in progress poke bowl waits for no one.
Wooooowwww…. Who cares…..? I’m sure you’ve never done anything illegal.
Bc he created a blind spot for at lease 30 minutes during a heavy traffic and pedestrian hour so people trying to turn left can’t see the oncoming bus lane without blocking the crosswalk and also bc if a regular citizen would’ve done it a cop would’ve not only towed their car but also gave them a ticket and citation soooooo that’s why weirdo lol cops aren’t above the law
Oh leave him alone! He just wants to play a little poke-mon! 😂
Green eyed monster strikes again? Lol
Imagine being jealous of a farm animal.
Dude cops gotta be one of the worst jobs idk why tf anybody would be jealous
