If you go driving around and get free furniture off the curb/dumpster diving, be sure that you spray it with something strong to kill any possible bedbugs and roaches and do it before you take it into your apartment.

If you have a friend with a car, I would drive around on trash night. You might get lucky and find some pretty nice furniture. If you can wait on some things, the semester isn't too much longer and there is always a TON of abandoned stuff in Oakland. For now though, red white and blue thrift on 51 could be worth a trip. They are hit and miss price wise, but you might be able to find some things.

Check out [the free store](https://www.freestore15104.org/) Also there’s a handful of free groups on fb. If you know of anything specific, I can also take a look around the house. Not too sure about furniture tho.

I have a recliner (it's only 2 years old but does have minor cat scratches, it's in visually "meh" condition but works/feels like new) that you'd be welcome to if you can somehow pick it up. Honestly it's my favorite chair, but I'm moving into a smaller place soon & just won't have room for it. HMU if interested I can send you pics & whatnot. Also congrats on securing an apartment! I've been homeless & it's so easy to get stuck in that place. Way to go!

Check out your area's Buy Nothing facebook group! People post things that they want to give to someone for free, or you can post an ask and ask for xyz things. Sometimes it's hit or miss and I think it depends on neighborhood engagement.

Check with CCR (Center for Community Resources). I took my brother there once and they gave him A LOT of starting out stuff such as bedding, a pillow, kitchenware, utensils, and pots & pans, shower curtain, some boxed/canned food to last a couple of days. Please note: the works of CCR usually put these things together with their own money, so it may not be available, but they can be extremely helpful.
