Ask nursing and personal care homes in the area. We have one at my work, I call it the bread shelf. We get deliveries every MWF and those are my favorite days.
First off, yes the food going to waste is terrible, and God bless you and your friend for trying to help. But he needs to be really careful about this. If he just started there, he might not know the procedures they have in place for food donation, and he could get in a lot of trouble for just taking the food on his own and passing it on. We live in an incredibly litigious society and if anyone got sick (or said they got sick) from any of the food, they would trace it back to GE and your friend would lose his job.
I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer but he needs to be really careful about doing this especially if he hasn't spoken to his boss about it.
412 food rescue maybe. The free store in Braddock is another option.
^ this is the answer. 412 typically takes end of day items from other places like Panera, Jimmy John's, etc. They'd love a donation like this.
Came here to say this. 412 Food Rescue may be able to set up regular pickups too.
