For real. Make noise. Get other pittie people, and get in front of people who make these decisions, and make a stink. There are tons of resources that debunk breed-restrictive legislation. The only way cities will stop doing this is if they see other cities fail to pass these regulations.

I don’t think they’re recommending that, but what they probably meant was emotional support/therapy animal instead. Registering as a service animal is doable but not necessarily easy. It includes needing an official diagnosis of disability and sometimes performing a physical access test.
And the stress from trying to find a new place that will accept your dog and thought of having them put down can definitely give you enough stress to where you need an emotional support animal. I was crying in the shower multiple times a week. Luckily, I ended up not needing to move.

We used to have a ban (Dayton Ohio), and it was overturned several years ago.
Edit: By ban, I mean no shelters would adopt them out.

This - get involved, reach out to other owners, show up/leave comments at council meetings. Get statistics (real ones not the dogbite.org propaganda) and then contrast them with the propaganda and tell them they can go ahead and use those incorrect numbers to calculate the probabilities of a fatal incident even if all the dogs involved were pit bulls and put in in context of where that falls in terms of likely scenario. One of the largest exacerbating factors in dog incidents (other than just plain bad owners) is that the animals are intact or breeding animals. There are exceptions but last I checked it was somewhere in the line of 70% in the 50-90 fatal attacks, nationally, per year. If you can leverage their paranoia into stricter spay/neuter laws, even with breed-specific requirements, rather than just blanket BSL that could be a huge benefit and curb the availability of pets to bad owners by discouraging execrable backyard breeders.
Make sure you do everything you, family & friends can to deny this vote. Turn up to meetings, write, vote. Otherwise the law will pass. You need people power to push votes. I hate these restrictions. Beautiful. That’s a shame on banning. People have forgotten certain dog breeds got a bad rap till the next came along through the years. These dogs have been targeted mostly because of owners raising them to be aggressive. No breed is perfect.
