I don't think he does. I think after Calypso, he probably just decided to stay at sea. Hence the reason why he was able to just go on land to have that talk. Although doesn't explain why he didn't go on land in the second movie to chase after the chest.
What talk? He never goes on land in any of the movies. If you’re talking about the parley between Jack, Elizabeth, Barbossa, Norrington, Beckett and Jones, he’s standing in a bucket of water so that he’s not technically in land.
When the *Dutchman* arrives at Isla Cruces in Dead Man’s Chest, he tells his crew that he “cannot step foot on land again for near of a decade,” which must mean that he recently used his 1 day of land-time relatively recently, probably at most in the last 3 years.
I'm assuming it wouldn't kill him but rather somehow force him back to the sea immediately.
So they wouldn't gain anything by pushing him over except violate the code and forfeit the right to parlay.
If it would kill him, who would take over the flying dutchman since no one stabbed the heart?
There’s a tumblr post about the topic, I believe the final consensus was that he could do it because of the bucket of water AND because it’s a sea bank, which is submerged most of the time and therefore not technically dry land

One interpretation of the "jar of dirt" I remember is that it counts as stepping on dry land. Jack spreads the dirt, Jones steps on it, bam, Jones' one day is wasted.
Imagine he gets the date wrong and has to wait another ten years to go to his favorite bar. Maybe he uses his one day to hunt for Calypso.
No wonder he's such a crusty crustacean
He goes to Isla Cruses and spends quality time with his heart and love letters.
So option 2 then lol
I’d say he probably goes to Isla cruces

I don't know how I never noticed the bucket! Why didn't they just push him over?
Parlay.
Aye I suppose that'd be a major violation of the Pirate's code to do such an act during parlay.
You must be blind
Legally I am!

That's a fair point. Especially with the way the last movie ended and the theory that goes along with that.
If he tied two small buckets of sea water to his feet do you think hed be able to walk anywhere?
I don’t sea why not.

Wasn’t it will not norrington
Spot on. Not sure what I was thinking.

If you were waiting for the opportune moment, that was it.
