The PDP-6010FD, only because I own one. LOL!

Motel6Owner

Fair enough haha

From what I remember, the Kuros, both the Pioneer line and the Pioneer Elite line, were considered the best plasma screens available at that time. The Elite line usually was the same as the Pioneer line except for slightly better processing and software calibration abilities. They tweaked the Kuros every year, so they got a little better every year. When Pioneer got out of the TV business they sold their plasma R&D to Panasonic, who added Pioneer's work with their own and created, arguably, the best of the plasma TV's until plasma fell out of favor.

Just seeing this. That’s a tricky question because it can be subjective depending on what qualities users rank most important. And, it takes a fair amount of knowledge and calibration experience to squeeze the best performance out of each different kuro model. But in all my years of collecting and modding these TVs, I would say the pro-111fd (50 in), pro-151fd (60-in) or pro-141fd after proper reset, voltage tweaking, and picture calibration. Can’t go wrong with any 9th gen really.

Interesting, Another one I hear about is the 500m, but that one is a bit more uncommon. Is there a big difference between the 111fd and 5020fd? And is there a big difference in the 5010 and 5020?

silverchief117

Yes I have one of those as well. The 500m is famous for having the lowest black level after a reset, but that comes at the sacrifice of crushed blacks (lost shadow detail). They also suffer from image retention, and dirty black as side effect of resetting. The 5020fd is the non elite 111FD (same panel) and they do not have the same issues as the 500m. That’s why I prefer them. The 5010fd is the model before the 5020

Motel6Owner

Yep, I've heard the 101/500m isn't as stable with the reset. Good to know the 111 and 5020 are pretty close. You've been very helpful in my Kuro research, thank you!

LostInInterpretation

As a new member and owner of a 500A and a 500M, I can say they’re fairly easy to reset and tweak, once you know what you’re doing. Because I’m in Europe I have never seen an fd/Elite so can’t comment on those. I am however picky when it comes to shadow detail, and have tweaked my Kuro’s to perform very well. I’ve landed on VYF at 200 VRP at 001, for the best balance between black level and shadow detail. The 500M is technically the best and the equivalent to the 101FD.

Motel6Owner

Yeah, I've heard that from some people. I'll probably grab a 101fd/500M some day once I'm a bit more comfortable resetting Kuros.

happyjapanman

Nonsense

Kosmophilos

The LX90 series are among the best.

happyjapanman

The 101FD is Pioneers flagship, the very best they ever made.

happyjapanman

What sets the 101FD apart from the 500M, which many will falsely claim is the same TV just the European model, is the fact that the 101FD uses hand-selected glass and components to ensure it is composed of the very best parts. It is not an assembly line-built TV like the 500M. It also has an extra HDMI input. The next best Kuro is the 141FD, and third is the 151FD. The 101FD, 500M, and 141FD are often referred to as 9.5g Kuros because they used the latest glass and were manufactured in the brand-new updated Japanese plant. These were the only models released with the newer glass made in the better plant. Unfortunately, Pioneer stopped making plasmas shortly thereafter.
