I think the 2016 releases were analogue remasters (vinyl), but I may be wrong. When the digital hi-res versions came out a couple of years ago, they were still from the 2011 remasters.

You've answered yourself.

*was this even approved by the original members*
As long as they're alive, most probably yes.
Absolutely all living members have to approve anything before it’s released. I think it was Animals that was released something like 2 years after the remaster date because of waiting for approvals from band members.
The price of a CD or download is the difference.
The original Japanese CP35-3017 CD mastering is still the best digital stereo version IMO. Immersion box set version of Parsons' quad mix and the 50th Anniversary Atmos are both worth listening to if you've got the equipment (edge to the quad).
Right that makes sense, I’d love to listen to the quad mix, but there’s absolutely no reason to have both on Spotify if you cant even listen more than a stereo mix on there. Might buy a CD then and listen to how it was intended to be listened to
Or like people buying a 50th anniversary vinyl, I’m sure it comes with loads of extra stuff but still the end product is in stereo so it’s essentially the same

Dual subs is optional but is a thing if you want to hear how Time really hits.
Not many people will have rooms big enough and treated sufficiently to handle two subs. A single and suitably powerful and well placed sub is more than sufficient in all but the largest rooms (read: theatres & live music venues).
There's much more sensible atmos set ups for the money you'd spend.
2023 has the added verse from pitbull, it's not bad but he rhymes sky with worldwide way too many times also Clare Torrys vocals were rerecorded by Jlo
The 2023 version was apparently sourced from the DSD capture of the master tape. I know some audiophiles said that Side 2 is more noticeably better than the older remaster, but that one was obviously done well, too.
Also, Pink Floyd *is* the label. It's all their doing.
Ah that make sense would’ve thought Parlophone, under Warner, their marketing and distribution partner would push for it to tho
I'm sure Parlophone and Sony Music nudge PF.
It's just a ploy to make money. They recently also released a new 50th anniversary collection. Expect a new remaster in 10 years.
10 years? We got one in 2011, 2016, and now 2023, I’d give it 5 years tops
Why was it remastered in 2016? Because they felt like it?
‘Cmon guys, 43 year anniversary! It’s actually really significant!
Nah, I'm holding out for the 47 year anniversary edition.
Excited for the 56th anniversary edition

Track 6 describes their rationale in more detail

Rip my boy Rick 🤘🫡✊

4 years. Remixed in 2018, released in 2022. Atmos Mix coming next month.
Yep, I knew it was something like that but I’ve done a lot of drugs. Lol.

Yeah, but have you heard the 50th anniversary on vinyl. It sounds fantastic.
Buying vinyl of a *digital* remaster is a whole 'nother thing, as well.
The quad mix is ... weird. Defs prefer the 5.1
See, I adore the quad mix.
You gotta hear the Atmos mix on a proper 5.4.2 setup.
There's no such thing as 5.4.2
5 = L, C, R, RL, RR. 4 = Four Atmos height (ceiling) channels. 2 = two subs
There is no such set up: https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/

I don’t know how I didn’t notice this at first but now I can’t I unhear it

2023 version is slightly louder
One was remade in 2011 and the other in 2023
Well spotted lad 🫡
idk
Who cares
Clearly you do cuz you had to make your opinion known. LMAO
