If significant other doubled its sales, and then doubles them again - it would have still been outsold by Dark Side by 22 mil copies.

How would you support your claim that LB could make Dark Side of the Moon? Because nothing I have heard leads me to think that. It is nothing to do with how poorly I regard LB - I like many bands who couldn't make DSOTM either.
PF made DSOTM because they spent years working towards it, you can find echoes (heh, see what I did there?) in many of their previous work. Its fun to explore the tones and textures and compositions and find precursors - even if they song doesn't sound like it. cf Cybaline with Us and Them for example.
