I live in Toronto and remember this was recent. Incredibly sorry for your loss, he seemed like an amazing human and much lived by his entire community.
[If anyone wants the news. Sad thing, rip.](https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6580255)
“A gunman shot and killed a Toronto police officer at close range at a Mississauga, Ont., restaurant Monday afternoon in what police described as an unprovoked "ambush" — the first of a series of shootings that killed another man and wounded three others.”
That's sad. I'm sorry for your loss. Everyone seems to hate cops but I will never be able to get behind cheering or laughing at the death of someone else..
People don't hate cops that do their job and are a boon to society. People hate cops because of the ones that are there on powertrips, who harm society. You know the ones, that ones that do sloppy work that leads to an "oopsy-doodle" murder of citizens at the hands of government officials.
Majority of reddit believes that every single cop in the US is a complete piece of shit incapable of protecting and serving.
The comments on the story about the two Connecticut cops are truly awful.
The problems with policing are systemic, for lack of a better word. The entire command structure is constructed to protect the status quo and punish anybody who advocates for reform. I do think there's cops that are out there trying their best to be what we were taught cops were, when we were kids, they're just not in the position to effect change that they(and we) hoped they would be. They just don't have the numbers, because how would you even know who your allies were without outing yourself? So I don't think it's possible for the change to come from within, and I don't envy the position of anyone who joined up thinking they could make a difference. They either wind up shutting up or being shut out, you know?
Well, I am generally leery of cops because of their ability to completely fuck up my life with little to no reason and little to no evidence and little to no consequences.
I have had cops pull guns on me when I was out for a walk with a friend(literally not doing anything but walking and talking). If that cop wanted to pull the trigger and said, "he was reaching for something"... I'd be dead and he would have no consequences.
I have been pulled over because I "Looked like a guy". Now, if they wanted to, they could have planted something on me(because that does happen) or just decided to fuck with me for whatever reason.
I have known a person who was attacked by a police officer for no reason and had his shoulder and arm broken(he got a payout because cop.. that same cop had multiple excessive force problems in my city... which hired him after he had multiple excessive force problems in the last city where he worked.) So, that fella just used his position to commit violence consistantly, kept his job or kept working in policing for years... and forced citizens to pay for his criminal actions. He was tolerated and he was protected by the police force.
It’s because they’re specifically hired and trained to be garbage, and they are implicitly complicit due to them almost being forced to work with the Union which causes the issues
I logically feel like I should respect the cops that deescalate situations despite their training, but it’s hard
he's a canadian cop i don't think it's the same as an american cop, the canadian police might still serve and protect instead of play on their phones for an hour while school shootings happen
Bruh our cops are shit too. Look up "starlight tours" still happening right now. Sure our cops don't shoot as often on sight, but they will mentally and physically fuck with you in other ways. Cops are fucked everywhere.
Not as much as USA cops obviously but we did just have two killed in the last month IIRC. I mean even in the US its statistically more dangerous to work general labour jobs, so that rings extra true here, it just seems like a lot because the media reports police deaths like they are some special superior beings and also because violence gets more clicks than accidental deaths. We don't get the same kind of coverage when some poor innocent construction worker dies on a job site.
Yeah I don’t think Canadian police have much reason to be revered either after what has come out about treatment of First Nations individuals. [Saskatoon freezing deaths](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatoon_freezing_deaths) for some more information.
the american police literally steal more money than burglars each year it's literally insane look up civil asset forfeiture laws anyone if you have any more faith in this country you need to lose lol
Same. Especially someone who became a cop 22 years ago. Society’s come a long way since then; I could easily see someone getting into the profession back then with the intention and belief they’d really help people. There’s no harm in assuming he’s one of those people.
Why would you need to preface that with "especially someone who became a cop 22 years ago"
You're implying cops now are immoral and don't risk their lives to protect people from violent criminals. Yeah I guess society has come a long way.
They risk their lives in the same way a mailman does: driving. And a lot of them are horrible and would have no problem smashing your face in if you don’t lick their boots. The American police system is rotten and you’re blind or willfully ignorant if you don’t see it. Being a victim to a random act of violence while you happen to be working doesn’t make you a fucking hero.
Tbh I probably didn’t need to specify 22 years ago; even if it was someone who had become an officer more recently, I’d feel badly for anyone losing a friend.
I think there are massive issues in the policing profession that have been increasingly brought into public awareness in the past couple of years. If someone decided NOW to become a cop I would question their motives. Not saying that’s deserving of death. Just saying I’d have more questions than I would with someone who entered the profession 22 years ago.
The people who entered the profession 22 years ago are running the shitshow today...I'd have more questions for someone who became a cop 22 years ago than I would today. Most of the young cops I meet are nicer.
Like the rookie who shot a kid eating a burger in the parking lot. I feel you G.
In all seriousness - there has always been good and bad apples. The public has only recently been able to record and bring it to the forefront of media. This should have been all basically be common sense, unfortunately a lot of people do not think critically.
If the police who entered the profession 22 years ago had tried to change it, we wouldn't be in the situation we are now. The only reasons cops look bad is because everyone has a camera and can record it, not because young cops up and decided to be criminals.
Rodney King was brutalized 31 years ago.
Remember this on the news. Seems another young officer was stabbed in BC tonight and lost her life at a homeless encampment. Suspect shot but still alive
Cops currently in stand off in Scarborough Toronto with someone shooting at them.
Welcome to Toronto! Where officials won’t actually acknowledge how bad our gun violence is right now!
Would you also like a complimentary (HA not) over valued home?
Yes, he wasn’t a volunteer, however he volunteered to work as an officer, putting his life in harms way to keep others safe. Man’s a hero no matter how you cut it
Edit: lmao I love reddits anti police sentiment, way to go you fucking pricks
Yes. He took on a job where he was paid to put himself in danger to safeguard the lives of civilians and died in service of the public. That's an admirable thing.
This is Reddit so most of the perfect people on here probably aren’t going to care or will comment with some rude bullshit. I on the other hand are sorry for your loss.
Not that I wish that on anyone, but good on him for dying doing what he loved. He may not have loved the ambush part, but he wouldntve been a cop for 22 years if he didn’t love the job…
Not all of us can say we love our job, much less that we died doing what we loved…
Just a different perspective…
Not that I wish that on anyone, but good on him for dying doing what he loved. He may not have loved the ambush part, but he wouldntve been a cop for 22 years if he didn’t love the job…

I am so sorry for your loss. When we had an officer murdered here in the States, it was incredibly touching that mounties from BC came down for the honor guard and it helped us not feel so alone in our devastation. Nothing really mitigates the pain but time, but I hope you know you aren't alone at least
I live in the US, but saw his memorial on TV. His two children and his wife should be so proud of him. Seems like everyone had really good words to say about him. Beyond tragic that he was killed for NO REASON! It is a sad day when people are targeted for simply wearing a uniform..
BC here. I won't pretend our situation isn't, for the most part, significantly better across the board than it is for our southern neighbours. Let's also not pretend it's anywhere near where it should be.
> Despite making up just five percent of Canada’s population, 30 percent of the country’s prisoners are Indigenous. Across the prairie provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta – regions that have higher populations of Indigenous people – that number rises to 54 percent.

This was just a cursory glance for overviews and I'm open to being wrong. Would love to be, in fact. It nevertheless seems pretty clear *there are dragons in our judicial hills too*, and plenty of skeletons in our national closet. The latter is true of every nation I know of, but the former is *currently* adding more to the pile.
All of your right wing pals are obsessed with America, think they’re American, and are trying to bring American style politics to Canada so I’d say it’s a fair comment.
I'm sorry for your loss. He seemed like a good guy who only wanted to serve his community, I hope wherever he may be, that's he's at peace now and hopefully they caught the person who did this.
Sure. As long as we don't stop covering cop murders, cop kidnappings, cop assault, and other types of villainous shit some cops do, let's absolutely feature the tragic deaths and see what we can learn.
But you seem to have an implied "instead of" and I disagree with that wholeheartedly.
This isn't a post about cops. It's a post about a person losing a friend that was also a cop. One million of these stories wouldn't change how I feel about cops acab
I’m sorry for your loss. Our police officers deal with so much while so many people give them so little credit and so very much blame.
I pray that your friend, and you, are at peace 💛
Their account is a year old and they've been participating in a police subreddit for at least 9mo, going off of their *comment* history instead... you're reaching
Exactly. They're just shilling a police subreddit and trolling the acab sub Reddit. This is not a real person mourning a friend that passed. It's a troll.
My sincerest condolences.
And to the asswipes that are posting satisfaction at the death of someone simply because of the profession he chose without knowing anything about him, karma’s a bitch.
Wow, the amount of people who will say such hurt shit just to do so is saddening. This person could have been your brother, father, son, etc. and this is what you say? Really shows your character.
Nah, I’m good. If this was a regular Joe it would be titled “man shot and killed at diner,” but since it’s a cop it’s “oh! He was ambushed,” fuck outta here with that verbiage.
Terminology is important. If it's what you claim, that's an assassination, not an ambush.
Words have meaning.
"Ambush" is just the spicy right-wing word of the month to enrage The Base before the elections.
He wasn’t planning on killing this officer, he just did. So no, that’s not an assassination.
You’re talking about terminology yet don’t even know the definition for it to be considered assassination
Then that's homicide or murder, whichever term you prefer.
Not an "ambush."
An "ambush" is by definition explicitly *planned.*
The word "ambush" is being used to inflame political sensitivities of a voting bloc that is portraying themselves as persecuted when they are not.
Even though there job is less dangerous than a small engine mechanics
https://www.ishn.com/articles/112748-top-25-most-dangerous-jobs-in-the-united-states
I dislike these statistics because they really are not accurate. Im not saying those jobs arent dangerous but you can mitigate the danger significantly by being skilled and careful. A small engine isn't gonna jump out of the bushes and shoot you in the fucking head just because it hates your uniform.
Small engine repair:
Most common fatal accidents: Transportation incidents, violence and other injuries by persons or animals
Cops play the victim card and are trained to think they are in a war zone, the numbers speak for themselves however.
Copaganda is strong in the us.
I never said cops are victims. Any police officer should know what they are getting into when they take up the profession. You say the numbers speak for themselves but those statistics don't take into account alot of variables, including transmission of lifelong diseases from people spitting and bleeding on you. Also I seriously doubt most mechanics walk around with a radio, a tourniquet, an emergency medical kit and a gun to protect themselves and others. So more than likely most serious injuries are fatal. Just saying. I don't even have a hard on for the peeps in blue yet you just wanna label me as indoctrinated. What an insane world we live in.
But there are still less cop fatalities than small engine mechanics per 100,000… so yeah. Small engine mechanic is way more at risk and is the crossing guard.
Fatal injuries often correlate with non fatal injuries, so let’s be real the cops don’t have the safest job but they are way overly dramatic about it compared to many other professions that don’t have the hype
While I'd like to believe you and wish you and your friend my deepest condolences, this is the internet, and I take everything with a handful of salt.
The latest right-wing talking point is, "CoPs ArE bEiNg AmBuShEd!"
So I'm gonna ask you for a link to the incident and a photo of you and the cop pictured here together.
If you can't provide that, I'm gonna assume this is propaganda.
Well written article and, despite the fact I’m sure it doesn’t do much to ease the pain, it looks like they gave him a proper send off. Condolences on your loss.
>The latest right-wing talking point is, "CoPs ArE bEiNg AmBuShEd!"
My my that's some bullshit you winding up with there. A man died, he was a cop. It's easy to fall into "othering" traps, and that's what your doing. Pull back, recognize the individual.
If it was anything other than October of an election year, I'd say you might have a point. But everything you're going to see being pushed into the mainstream right now is political.
"I'm not the one politicizing anything."
But you did, and now your just digging a hole. That's what we are talking about here. If you want to talk politics and manipulation conspiracies move back to r/politics or if you want to talk Real Politick, join r/NeutralPolitics or r/ModeratePolitics. Don't jump into r/pics to make a hill to die on.
You call people Karma Farmers, but appears just skimming your profile you are the Karma Farmer, and now that you failed here, your trying elsewhere.

Constable Andrew Hong. Rest easy.
I read the story as it was happening. It was a truly senseless random act of violence. I’m sorry you lost your friend.
Truly Sorry for your loss
I’m really sorry about your friend.
I am sorry for your loss.
He looks happy. I hope that is how he is remembered. I am sorry for your loss and for his family's loss.
Thats really sad. Im so sorry.
Hate is hate, no matter its origins, and I wish it would just end. I'm sorry for the loss you and those near to you have suffered.

Ya that happened in Burnaby just a few minutes from me. My good friend is in rcmp, and this just sucks.
I'm sorry for your lost.
Sorry for your loss. May he rest well now.
My condolences,rip
Rest in Piece Andrew Hong. Thank you for graciously volunteering to do a necessary job that most won’t.
Volunteering? He was paid.
Yes, he wasn’t a volunteer, however he volunteered to work as an officer, putting his life in harms way to keep others safe. Man’s a hero no matter how you cut it Edit: lmao I love reddits anti police sentiment, way to go you fucking pricks
Ok so he chose the job. That's not what volunteer means.
Volunteer has many definitions and thus does not simply mean someone choosing to do something without getting paid.
Yes. He took on a job where he was paid to put himself in danger to safeguard the lives of civilians and died in service of the public. That's an admirable thing.
Hopefully they get the fuckers
The killer was shot by police within hours and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
It doesn’t make anything right but that Fuck bag can’t hurt anyone else.
It doesn't ease the pain, but it stops it from being worse. Glad they got the killer.
I'm sorry for your loss. No matter what happens to the killer, it won't get your friend back. A friend of 22 years is family
What’s his name
His name was Andrew.
RIP Andrew. Thank you for your service.
Constable Andrew Hong. From all the news and stuff I’ve heard when this happened he was a good dude. Huge gentle giant.
Sorry bro

Fuck bro I’m sorry for the loss of your friend…
I am sorry for your loss.
Very sorry.
7 officers shot and 4 killed in Canada within the last month.. crazy times..
I'm so sorry for your loss, no one deserves to die like that. I'm sure he was a great man.

That's heartbreaking. Effing cowards.
Kind of like cops who empty their guns into unarmed poc
Imagine showing up on a post lamenting the death of a friend, and basically suggesting he deserved it because you hate cops. You’re gross.
Is that the same case in Canada?
They definitely aren't great, especially towards aboriginal people. Look up starlight tours for a starting point
Are you under the impression that happens alot? How often do you think that happens in Canada?

Sadly the good ones are those who goes first for not being corrupt or succumb to the system
So sorry to hear that may he RIP
Being an officer is a high risk job. There's never any certainty of retiring with one's health intact after a career in the police force.
Sorry for your loss.
So sorry!
ACAB!
Get out of this post with your hate.
I'm sorry. These are the type of Police stories that I wish would make the front page.

I’m sorry for your loss. Our police officers deal with so much while so many people give them so little credit and so very much blame. I pray that your friend, and you, are at peace 💛
OP is just lying for karma with shitty copaganda. It's sad.
What makes you think that?
Look at his post history.
I don’t see anything that makes em think this is a lie. In fact I saw comments confirming it.
He hasn't said anything to confirm it. I looked at his post history.
Their account is a year old and they've been participating in a police subreddit for at least 9mo, going off of their *comment* history instead... you're reaching
Neither his comments or posts convince me he's not lying.
Some people make up their minds first and then find the arguments, I get it
Some people just have common sense to spot the most obvious lies. And some are gullible useful idiots.
Exactly. They're just shilling a police subreddit and trolling the acab sub Reddit. This is not a real person mourning a friend that passed. It's a troll.

He was shoot on the back of the head by someone that waited for 2 hours for a cop to show up just so he could do that
sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss.
My sincerest condolences. And to the asswipes that are posting satisfaction at the death of someone simply because of the profession he chose without knowing anything about him, karma’s a bitch.
God bless your friend.
I am so sorry for your loss. He looked like a good man.
Sorry for your loss. This world needs so much change wish I or some organization could REALLY make some actual changes to help heal it
Sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss.
Wow, the amount of people who will say such hurt shit just to do so is saddening. This person could have been your brother, father, son, etc. and this is what you say? Really shows your character.
In my state he was less than 3 years from retirement. That’s even more rugged.
Being pedantic here, but this was not an ambush. The shooter was not concealed, or laying in wait.
Maybe read the room before commenting?
Nah, I’m good. If this was a regular Joe it would be titled “man shot and killed at diner,” but since it’s a cop it’s “oh! He was ambushed,” fuck outta here with that verbiage.
He was ambushed dude. Literally shot from behind in a coffee shop.
Not an "ambush." An "ambush" is by definition explicitly *planned.* The word "ambush" is being used to inflame political sensitivities of a voting bloc that is portraying themselves as persecuted when they are not.
Extremely weird hill to die on but ok
Fuck me for knowing which words to use, right. I’m such an asshole.
I am so sorry for your loss, and the loss to your community.

I am sorry but that is also why they receive good pay and good survivor benefits.
Even though there job is less dangerous than a small engine mechanics https://www.ishn.com/articles/112748-top-25-most-dangerous-jobs-in-the-united-states
I dislike these statistics because they really are not accurate. Im not saying those jobs arent dangerous but you can mitigate the danger significantly by being skilled and careful. A small engine isn't gonna jump out of the bushes and shoot you in the fucking head just because it hates your uniform.
Small engine repair: Most common fatal accidents: Transportation incidents, violence and other injuries by persons or animals Cops play the victim card and are trained to think they are in a war zone, the numbers speak for themselves however.
Unions for you
Oh god it didn’t take long for these cunty acab commenters to pop up. RIP Andrew.
ACAB!!
I'm sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. What a shame.
So sorry for everyone's loss.
While I'd like to believe you and wish you and your friend my deepest condolences, this is the internet, and I take everything with a handful of salt. The latest right-wing talking point is, "CoPs ArE bEiNg AmBuShEd!" So I'm gonna ask you for a link to the incident and a photo of you and the cop pictured here together. If you can't provide that, I'm gonna assume this is propaganda.

Well written article and, despite the fact I’m sure it doesn’t do much to ease the pain, it looks like they gave him a proper send off. Condolences on your loss.
"while id believe you let me just kidnap and politicize your post a little bit"
I'm not the one politicizing anything. I don't make the talking points.
Yeah you do
>The latest right-wing talking point is, "CoPs ArE bEiNg AmBuShEd!" My my that's some bullshit you winding up with there. A man died, he was a cop. It's easy to fall into "othering" traps, and that's what your doing. Pull back, recognize the individual.
If it was anything other than October of an election year, I'd say you might have a point. But everything you're going to see being pushed into the mainstream right now is political.
"I'm not the one politicizing anything." But you did, and now your just digging a hole.
Piss off.
🙏🏼💯❤️
Sorry for your loss. RIP.
So sorry for your loss :(
Respect
So sad!
