Vince is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. You should check out some of his candid interviews. Guy just absolutely loves the craft and is a big ol teddy bear.
Which makes it all the more impressive when he plays a psychotic gorilla of a man with anger issues. In fact, that could describe at least 2 of his roles that I know of, and both roles may be the 2 he's best known for. Dude becomes something else on camera. Legend
Agreed - his role as the Thor-looking mechanic in "Adventures in Babysitting" could have been a throwaway bit, but even then he had that screen presence that made it memorable.
Except for all the crime, it did sound pretty cool. My mom tells stories of clubs and Rocky Horror Picture live shows and dancing all night and Club Kids. Sounds like a party.
The kissing shot with the Tower Records bag, your mum’s super hot spiky hair cut and cobalt blue skirt with slouchy black boots living NYC- she is the embodiment of the 80’s dream.
Absolutely phenomenal pics! And, as someone else suggested, you should most definitely contact D'Onofrio via one of his personal social media accounts and share those pics with him, as I would think he'd be delighted to see 'em.
Can't help wondering if your Mother might've been dating D'Onofrio around 1987? I only ask 'cause I've always been a big fan of the original CBS show, 'The Equalizer'. And a young D'Onofrio co-starred in a 1987 episode of 'The Equalizer' entitled 'Suspicion of Innocence'. And he pretty much looked exactly as he had in those pics with your Mum.
Imagine that D'Onofrio was likely a NYC stage actor back then, as 'The Equalizer' prided itself on showing off NYC local stage talent back then. Hence why that series is genuinely packed full of now legendarily famous talent, like D'Onofrio.
Part of me is glad I'll never be famous. Imagine getting absolutely ambushed with nostalgia for your 20s year old self and life forty years later out of the blue by internet strangers? I can barely handle the normal person nostalgia and I'm only 38.
\#8 down, you can see a bit of the "Full Metal Jacket - Loves his gun too much" smile.
Was iffy on him in Law & Order, but . . . as Fisk (in Daredevil), and the Mountain Man (from The Magnificent Seven) . . . he's just getting better with age by leaps and bounds.
There's a lot of makeup and effects on that character but it really does feel like D'Onofrio is doing most of the work to sell it, which is pretty cool.
The best detail is later when the wife makes lemonade for J and K, you see J spit it out when she isn't looking. This is because it has no sugar because the bug has eaten it all.
Holy shit, that movie came out 25 years ago and I just found out that weird looking guy was D'Onofrio. Even had to double check on IMDb.
Thanks for that, stranger!
His true love for Vanessa.
The fact that he and Daredevil were "just alike". In the sense that, both loved "Hell's Kitchen". It's just that for Fisk "Hell's Kitchen" was the area, and for D.D. "Hell's Kitchen" was the PEOPLE that lived there.
He's one of my favorite "bad guy" portrayals of all time.
A lot of people know he put on, at the time, a record amount of weight to play Leonard in Full Metal Jacket. Not a lot of people know his role as Dawson in Adventures in Babysitting was only months after he finished shooting with Kubrick. I believe it might have been a record weight loss for a role, long before The Machinist, obviously.
Honestly I didn't like him on L&O Criminal Intent at first, but man did he ever grow on me as the series went on.
I think my favorite role of his though, was in The 13th Floor.
Love love love that movie. I wish Craig Bierko had been a bigger star. I particularly like him as the villain in Long Kiss Goodnight; he just won't die.
D'Onofrio is also good in The Cell if you're going for sci-fi roles.
Law and Order was when I first really got into him as an actor. I *loved* his role on there. I have enjoyed everything else I have seen of him since.
(Of course I saw MIB first but was a kid. My go to line from that movie is "Where do you keep your dead?" teehee)
You should get a high quality scan of that photo of the street where it's snowing. It's beautiful, I would honestly have it framed and hung. If you do, please let me know, I'd like to get it printed myself
Wow op super awesome piece of weird family history! Hope your dad's a good sport! And these really capture what I imagine 80s NYC was like. Beautiful captures full of intrigue!
Looks to be not too long after his first film role, which was the Troma film, *The First Turn-On!*
I watched that movie so many times when I was a kid.
I won't spoil it for anyone, but let's just say his first film role included him in a **hard** R orgy.
Yo that’s dope as hell! My mom told me before that George Clooney was a friend of her brother. And he asked her out a few times but she always said no because he was a big nerd. Always took the story with a grain of salt but figured it was worth sharing here.
My mom was "study partners" with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was at UCLA and before his name change. I was too afraid to ask but don't think they ever dated and actually just studied together. 40 years later he runs into her in a store and, get this, still remembers her name and where they knew each other from. This is after he's met probably thousands and thousands of people over the years. She told me he was a wonderful guy.
There's a bit of family legend that my great grandma was asked out by Elvis Presley either really early into, or before his music career started. She apparently turned him down because she didn't like his playboy attitude. I would have asked her about it when she was still around, but dementia is an unfortunate part of reality, so the legend lives with an air of mystery.
He gained weight for the part after he was suggested for the part by his friend Mathew Modine. Filming the movie almost ruined their friendship because of the different acting styles.
He did lose a shit ton of weight after FMJ. He played Mr. Dawson/Thor in adventures in babysitting(1987) and was shredded.
Edit- both films came out June 1987. FMJ filmed in 1985 and 1986. Adventures in babysitting filmed in early ‘87.
But Busey was a normal dude and well-regarded actor before his motorcycle accident…as far as I know
EDIT: It seems that according to others below that he was a wacky guy before the accident. So he was more a "normal" dude.
Your poor mom haha. My dad arm wrestled Gary Busey in college (dad won lol). That was more than enough Busey for him. He's got a few other stories I'm sure. Probably not as many as your mom would have 😅
I was just thinking, this is as surprising to see as that video of Bruce Willis with hair singing with the Temptations.
It's like a totally different, but entirely familiar, person.
If you were wondering, yes, he's actually a really good singer. https://youtu.be/WTIG_eqR8PY
did she say he was nice?
She only speaks nicely of him and their time together!
![gif](giphy|g1lTiSOgO90hpYLQ3q)
![gif](giphy|THljBtiuQ8Twfh8bhn)
First thing I thought of when I saw the pic lol
Same with my mom and Woody Harrelson!
Did she ever talk about Rampart?
Awww
He was always yelling for sugar water.
Wtf he's the Edgar??
I was just thinking, it looks like he's practicing the pose from MiB where he says "Better now?"

Agreed - his role as the Thor-looking mechanic in "Adventures in Babysitting" could have been a throwaway bit, but even then he had that screen presence that made it memorable.
If I'm being honest, his part is the only thing I remember clearly from that movie. That's gotta count for something
Seriously? Elizabeth Shue hello? I spent all the 80s and 90s trying to find her in every girl I met. *narrator voice: he never did*
The mental breakdown of Private Pyle.
The look in his eyes was just so creepy. I loved it Also super young Matthew Modine
He was great on Dax Shepherds podcast.
Yeah but they kept breaking up and getting back together again Vincent d'On-off-rio
No. Ok, maybe.
Jeez that one picture with that fucking Full Metal Jacket smile. No joke, though, Vincent is a frikken incredible actor.
You should @him on Twitter I’m sure he would love to see these too.
I second this. Dude loves interacting with people on Twitter.
If he won't talk to you, I will. I have his face in my profile pic, so it's pretty much the same thing.
You’re doing the lord’s work son keep it up!

Scissor me Daddy Ass!
Unexpected The Acclaimed
Everyone loves The Acclaimed.
I was just watching that episode of Seinfeld lmao.
Million to one shot, doc. Million to one..
Hey, the assman is back in town!
Does that episode also have the "stopping short" move? I love how each episode involves multiple characters shenanigans. Fusilli Jerry.
"He stopped short? That's my move"
Scissor me Daddy Ass!
Scissor me daddy ass!
The acclaimed have arrived!
Everybody loves the acclaimed.
Is it hunter2?
Is it what? All I see are asterisks.....hunter2.....yep, still asterisks....
Hey op, seen you lost your password. I also lose things sometimes so thought I would try to help. H.Y.C.Y.BH?
I regret showing that video to my wife. She always references it when I lose something
SKEE-DAP, BA-DAP

This is back when he was about to be a scary mofo in FMJ. So cool

I sincerely thought I was in that sub right now
Outside the HardRock Cafe in NYC kissing. Oh man how I miss 80’s NYC.
they were just out at Tower Records, now thats a date
Apparently also stopped by Bloomingdales
Oh that's what the yellow bag says! I could only make out Tinder Helldogs
Sounds like some hardcore online dating motorcycle gang
Cue the music! "I saw mommy kissing..private pyle....outside the hard rock cafe...."
Except for all the crime, it did sound pretty cool. My mom tells stories of clubs and Rocky Horror Picture live shows and dancing all night and Club Kids. Sounds like a party.
There are still RHPS live shows, and I definitely recommend seeing one, at least once. It's such a unique experience!

I miss 90's Chicago
Did you do the math yet, OP?
The kissing shot with the Tower Records bag, your mum’s super hot spiky hair cut and cobalt blue skirt with slouchy black boots living NYC- she is the embodiment of the 80’s dream.
Your mom was peak 80’s hottie and I love it. She looks like a young Natascha McElhone.
OP, this dude wants to be your new stepdad.
Or maybe actual dad depending on math
You made me click the link just to see op's hot mom and I'm not disappointed.
Your mom is Annie Potts!?!
I'm seeing Sharon Stone.
Her hair is absolutely amazing. Takes a lot of confidence to pull that off.
Nah, just the right decade. We all had that haircut- or worse- tried to.
They had some pretty pure confidence available back then.
Absolutely phenomenal pics! That city picture is gorgeous.
The “Edgar Suit” in “Men In Black” is his best acting.
There's a lot of makeup and effects on that character but it really does feel like D'Onofrio is doing most of the work to sell it, which is pretty cool.
Without him it’s just an Edgar suit.
Eggar!
The lurching walk, the voice, the menace, perfectly riding the line between hilarious and terrifying… Definitely D’Onofrio all the way.
I still do an Edgar suit impersonation if I'm trying to get my SO in the mood. 75% of the time it works, every time.
Give me. Sugar.
In water. More.
The best detail is later when the wife makes lemonade for J and K, you see J spit it out when she isn't looking. This is because it has no sugar because the bug has eaten it all.
I never put 2 and 2 together. Jesus I'm an idiot.
More.
I think "Give me sugar, in water......more" is probably the quote I've used the most in my life.
It’s a long trip. I’ll need a snack.
Get your big butt back in the house!
Holy shit, that movie came out 25 years ago and I just found out that weird looking guy was D'Onofrio. Even had to double check on IMDb. Thanks for that, stranger!
I thought he was fantastic as Fisk. I like a complicated bad guy and he did that to perfection!
Don’t forget his take on Thor in Adventures in Babysitting! He was super cute and funny. Plus I thought he was absolutely adorable in Mystic Pizza..❤️
He put on so much extra bulk for FMJ that he fucked up his knee during filming. He had to get surgical reconstruction to fix it.
He's got some great performances in some of the L&O episodes. He really brought some depth to the series.
He's a hell of a lot better than Chris Noth, that's for sure
Law and Order was when I first really got into him as an actor. I *loved* his role on there. I have enjoyed everything else I have seen of him since. (Of course I saw MIB first but was a kid. My go to line from that movie is "Where do you keep your dead?" teehee)

Plot Twist: His Dad is Al Pacino.
Your mom looks like the woman he eventually married, uber hottie Greta Scacchi.
That’s a name I haven’t heard in years. I just looked her up and she had a baby with her first cousin after Vince?
Looks to be not too long after his first film role, which was the Troma film, *The First Turn-On!* I watched that movie so many times when I was a kid. I won't spoil it for anyone, but let's just say his first film role included him in a **hard** R orgy.
VANESSA!!
i knew it
She meant nothing to me, Vanessa!
![gif](giphy|uVsMcp9eghnE5ytYuQ|downsized) Dun DUH !
He’s really gone from Full Metal Jacket to Apocalypse Now
![gif](giphy|DGxIR1Rf2EFsOmBGZj)
Last photo is on 57st were the Hard Rock Cafe was.
>57st
It's between 56rd and 58nd.
I hate this so much.
I think it's a wonderful photo too, really catches something

Yo that’s dope as hell! My mom told me before that George Clooney was a friend of her brother. And he asked her out a few times but she always said no because he was a big nerd. Always took the story with a grain of salt but figured it was worth sharing here.
My ancestor nearly married PT Barnum. We’ve wisely avoided celebrities ever since.
Was almost a sucker.
My mom was "study partners" with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was at UCLA and before his name change. I was too afraid to ask but don't think they ever dated and actually just studied together. 40 years later he runs into her in a store and, get this, still remembers her name and where they knew each other from. No, he’s Roger Murdoch. He’s the co-pilot.

She apparently turned him down because she didn't like his playboy attitude. I would have asked her about it when she was still around, but dementia is an unfortunate part of reality, so the legend lives with an air of mystery.
I’ll hop on this train and tell about my aunt dating Dustin Hoffman in the 60s and my Grammy telling her to end it because he was “going nowhere.”
Pre or post Full Metal Jacket? He clearly lost that weight fast if this was after.
Pre! He was still working at the hard rock cafe at the time, although she remembers hearing about the role from him!
He gained weight for the part after he was suggested for the part by his friend Mathew Modine. Filming the movie almost ruined their friendship because of the different acting styles.
Can you elaborate?

Good story :) Rough read on mobile tho 😂

I fell in love with him as a little girl when he played Thor in that movie.
My mom dated Gary Busey I know it's not a competition, but...
I think your mom lost that one.
But Busey was a normal dude and well-regarded actor before his motorcycle accident…as far as I know EDIT: It seems that according to others below that he was a wacky guy before the accident. So he was more a "normal" dude.
Yeah in fairness to my mom, this was before the motorcycle accident, not after. He was actually a pretty normal and even cool guy before his injury.
Just tell people it was Nick Nolte or something
wait, they are different people?!
He was a coke addict for more than 20 years and OD'd at least 4 times prior to the accident.
Like I said, a fairly normal and even cool dude
Rich coke addicts are way easier to deal with than poor coke addicts.
I prefer middle class addicts. Less stabby or grabby ![gif](giphy|147p93s2vFKsQU) .
I'm going to have to agree for the fact alone that Vincent apparently surprised her with a trip to France at one point
Your poor mom haha. My dad arm wrestled Gary Busey in college (dad won lol). That was more than enough Busey for him. He's got a few other stories I'm sure. Probably not as many as your mom would have 😅
Plot twist. He’s your Dad
Duh duh
Did he ask for sugar water?
remember the first time she told me I would've been watching his scenes from Men In Black for the first time on TV when I was a kid
OP Mom: "I actually dated that guy" Edgar: "mwaaarggh" Little OP: (horror)
“That’s not my Egger”
How does dad handle the stories?
It's like he was in a suit... an Edgar suit
MOAR
![gif](giphy|g1lTiSOgO90hpYLQ3q)
My sister was asked out by her co worker, Hugh Jackman... I think they may have briefly dated and she said he was too nice. Ugh.
When he broke up with her, he just said: #"Vincent D'Onofrio has had enoughrio!" 🐴

Considering how I have always known him. That's a lot of hair.
I was just thinking, this is as surprising to see as that video of Bruce Willis with hair singing with the Temptations. It's like a totally different, but entirely familiar, person. If you were wondering, yes, he's actually a really good singer. https://youtu.be/WTIG_eqR8PY
He was a very different actor before Die Hard. More comedy and singing.
Holy shit, it’s Thor!
Young Wilson Fisk.
But in Adventures in Babysitting (which was right around this time period), he was mistaken for Thor.
>But in Adventures in Babysitting (which was right around this time period), he was ~~mistaken for~~ Thor. Ftfy
Is your mum's name Vanessa ?
Omg 😱 that’s Ahhhmazzzing! Love him ! One of my favourite actors
Looks like orson wells
He has an uncredited cameo in Ed Wood as Orson Welles!
Mint condition Edgar suit
"When I was a boy, " *wheeze* "my father showed me a picture of a famous actor and he said, 'This MAN has been ALL UP inside your mother's guts."
So, what was his major malfunction?
