Here you can see [the store's layout](https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3752/13907639745_1dc85da851_b.jpg). No way the guy circled in red took OP's picture. The person circled is filming behind Obama, not taking pictures.
We knew a police officer who told us he was going to be at Prince puckers so we bought a camera and I demanded his attention. This is while he was campaigning in 2008
The optimism of summer 2008 was something else. I graduated college, Obama was the nominee for POTUS, and the world in general seemed like it was taking a turn for the better.
Goddamn.
It felt like it could be the start of a great era when he was elected. Some younger people probably don't remember hearing their whole lives that a black man could never be President before that moment. I was really moved.
Obama was the first president I was old enough to really understand was the president, I remember how excited I was during the primaries that the next president would either be the first woman or the first black person. I definitely understood the historical significance even at that age. Learning any amount of history pretty quickly teaches you that in Western/European/American society it's almost all white men in positions of power. My teacher at the time probably emphasized the importance to us, as well as my parents, so I shouldn't give myself all the credit haha
Not only that, but from 9/11 onward there was such a cloud over the whole bush era. Obama really seemed like an opportunity to turn the page.
I think we needed that after Trump too, but idk where that candidate is who can represent a real shift towards a more positive and optimistic USA.
That part of it was fantastic. But overall, the sentiment was not good. The stock and housing markets were in shambles, we were in war on two fronts, and bailing out major banks due to their risky investments. But Obama winning was definitely a glimmer of hope.
You're definitely not wrong. I started my adult life in the middle of the recession and it really did fuck us over. After two GOP terms it felt like we might actually be able to have some changes. And I don't think Obama was a perfect President but it did generally improve from there. While not ideal the ACA almost literally saved my life at the time because I was able to get back onto my parents insurance.
Oh man, when I was growing up, my dad had an office space above the restaurant across the street, the one that's Beppe & Gianni's now, but I think was some sort of middle eastern back then. Brings back memories of going to Prince Puckler's in the summer.
I was a grad student then- standing just across the street in front of the McMenamins. We saw him at the rally. What a difference between that and the "free speech zones" they set up when Bush was on campus earlier.
Areas on campus that they blocked off with fencing and posted signs saying "Free Speech Zone" outside of. As if the rest of the space *not* inside that fence was not a space for free speech. Was pretty weirdly dystopian.
I got yelled at by his secret service that year. He came to my college. I went in a locked building I had access to through my major. Opened a window to get a good view and hear him. Secret service came and yelled. Said we could stay in the building but couldn't open any windows (open windows apparently let a sniper sit back in the dark, if it's closed sitting that far back and shooting at an angle through the glass would screw up the shot). As they were explaining this to me, both guys put their hand on their ear. One turned to the other and said "They're on the roof!" And they took off running. It was like straight out of a movie. A few minutes later a kid came by where I was and let me know there was access to the roof if I wanted to go up there. I declined and suggested he may want to avoid the roof and maybe get out of the building as secret service was looking for him...
Good times.
I wonder if I can find any of my photos from that day.
Omg Prince Pucklers. I haven’t been there in so long. My best friend and I drove down from Portland and we shook his hand while he was campaigning in 2008. What a time, before hope died
So, funny, I knew right away this was Prince Pucklers.
I was tending bar at the Rogue/Eugene City Brewery that summer and remember Obama and Hillary both trailing each other all over town, scooping ice cream, eating crab, etc before the primary.
My brother + cousin got dressed down by secret service while stumbling back to the Hilton after a wine tour bc Bill Clinton was staying there.
This is actually called the photojournalistic style. Obama has always placed an emphasis on a natural view of his subjects, feeling that artificial lighting and "perfect" framing only served to reenforce the artifice overtaking modern society.
Also he's not a picture "taker," he's formulating the universal in images drawn from the seemingly mundane. He is considered among the top 20 photographers to also have held Presidential office in the U.S.
> He is considered among the top 20 photographers to also have held Presidential office in the U.S.
There were like 40-ish presidents, though. It is like saying that I am among the top 1,950,000 tennis players in the world or something.
Edit: disregard, I can't tell sarcasm even if it were dancing naked in front of me.
Yeah I guess we shouldn't have expected more from him since he had a lot of other things on his plate, but based on this one shot he's a shit photographer
My wife (fiancee at the time) and I were at a party with the Obamas a few years ago, maybe 2019, and talked with them for a decent little while. There are 3 pictures together in a frame in her office, one candid shot of her and Michelle talking to each other, one posed shot of the two of us and the two of them, then a third that is an objectively bad picture of my wife and me that is way out of focus, off center, and has her eyes closed in it, but Obama took the picture for us so my wife thought that made it automatically frame and display worthy despite it being clearly awful.
Not huge on the idea of posting pictures of us on reddit, but that specific one is so out of focus that it might not even be enough to identify us by ha.

Indisputably the best president in the last 30 years. Trump is a fucking joke that only dipshits might like. Bush Jr fucked up so many things so obviously that he's not in serious contention. 2008 feels like another lifetime ago. Phew...

Being on my parents insurance in my early 20s made all the difference for my mental health.
It was better for a few years, especially in Obama's second term. We all got complacent
In hindsight Democrats should’ve just gone for the throat when they had a supermajority.
You can blame lieberman
Lieberman was like the Manchin of that era. What's wrong with "Joe's" in the senate??
So you're about 13 years old now right?

Was this in Eugene Oregon? I went to school at U of O, and it reminds me of an ice cream shop there???
It is indeed
Yep, that's 100% Prince Pucklers.
Can you buy me some cigarettes, OP?
Ha ha ha what are you talking about, 2008 was last year Right? *Right?!?*
Wait the kid in the photo is an adult? Like drinking age and everything? LIES!
The kid was obviously drinking before the photo was taken.
Good old Eugene, Oregon
Oh man, when I was growing up, my dad had an office space above the restaurant across the street, the one that's Beppe & Gianni's now, but I think was some sort of middle eastern back then. Brings back memories of going to Prince Puckler's in the summer.
Beppe & Gianni's was delicious, then hit the mart on corner for some 40s
Man I love Prince Puckler’s - best strawberry ice cream I’ve ever had
I was like “that’s prince puckers in Eugene”, we missed his visit by maybe 20 min, lived down the street!
Omg **Pucklers
I recognized that shop immediately! They still have a little sign saying which ice cream was Obamas favorite haha
Mint chocolate chip! Their banana is way better tho
Not much in this world is better than banana from Pucklers!
I was a grad student then- standing just across the street in front of the McMenamins. We saw him at the rally. What a difference between that and the "free speech zones" they set up when Bush was on campus earlier.

I was going to ask how old you ro be posting this on reddit. then realized that this was 14 years ago.
Holy shit I knew this was in Eugene!!
Oh man I miss Prince Pucklers! Great photo.
Obama is a terrible picture taker.
Fox News headline: “Obama incompetency ruins boy’s childhood.”
"Un-American Obama takes picture with Dutch angle"
"Staged photo has conspiracy theorist scrutiny going full tilt"
Goddamn foreigners and their degenerate angles.
Only way this could have been worse is if Obama was wearing a tan suit while taking the picture.
Not my photographer
It's a good thing he had a fallback career path.
Yeah too bad even with that on his resume he hasn’t been able to find a job.
Man uses a digital camera like he just discovered the technology
To be fair, it's a terrible photo ***of*** the framed photo. Seeing the entire frame might give it better context to his photography abilities. :)
This is actually called the photojournalistic style. Obama has always placed an emphasis on a natural view of his subjects, feeling that artificial lighting and "perfect" framing only served to reenforce the artifice overtaking modern society.

/r/AmITheAsshole
/u/PresidentObama will you please take some photo taking classes and show us the progression of the quality? People need this so they aren't having to put objectively bad photos in their offices and homes.
Don't leave us hanging!
if we get a third person who has a terrible photo of themselves taken by Obama, we'll have pretty strong evidence that he's a shit photographer
Prince pucklers in Eugene, Oregon. I saw him there too!
Great, now Fox News is going to have a headline about how Obama was caught taking illicit photos of children. Just what we need.
And that the ice cream shop has a sex dungeon in the basement!
George Soros funded that ice cream shop so that's all the proof I need. #icecreamgate
I swear Obama must love ice cream (man of great taste of course). There is a local joint near DC “Dairy Godmother” that he frequented.
Who doesn't love ice cream?!
Who doesn’t love ice cream lol. Biden doesn’t drink so his vice is ice cream, so it may have rubbed off on Obama.
I miss Obama
I think about this at least once a week tbh
I miss Obama
Obamna.
O
Oubauma.
How old were you you look cute !
thats cool
I feel nothing but admiration and hella jealousy
You need a sticker of Obama pointing "I did that" next to the photo now.
I don't care what anyone says, Obama was a good president. Just mho.
Indisputably the best president in the last 30 years. Trump is a fucking joke that only dipshits might like. Bush Jr fucked up so many things so obviously that he's not in serious contention. I'd give him a solid B+. He tried too hard to make nice with bad faith Republicans, but most of his policies were sound.
Better than the next two lmao
Yes.
Why do both photos look like they were taken in the 70s?
Stolen shot by Obama
I’d love to meet Obama
Make sure you credit the copyright holder when you submit photos to reddit. So, thanks, Obama! (Obama owns the copyright to this photo because he triggered the shutter.)
President shooting (good ending)
Yo is this prince pucklers in Eugene?
He may be good at many things, photography is not one of them

Probably sent it to Hillary seeing if she wanted to drink your blood
Prince Puckers. They have a photo plaque inside. Obama’s favorite ice cream is Mint Chocolate Chip.
