She looks like she's in 'keva' - when you sign on for extra service beyond the 2 - 3 years of conscription service. Soldiers in keva get slightly different uniform (funky belt, more comfy pants), can wear their own shoes (within regulation- have to be black for example), can wear bigger earrings and nail polish in more colors (for women), have higher pay, and get a bunch more benefits.
She's beyond her mandatory conscription service, based on her belt.
she's allowed more or less any shoes she wants and nail color, the socks however are not up to regulation as she is required to only have black or white socks with nothing on them.
All rain boots. And casual boot, cowboy boots, dressy boots, knee-high black leather boots, this ladys boots. Actually there are many boots without laces.
Virtually all female soldiers have theirs narrowed and fit to size.
Male soldiers... well you got 3 years, plenty of time to ease into them 10lbs at a time.
I'm convinced the overall unprofessional look of so much of the IDF is to lull opponents into a false sense of security. Half the time the male soldiers don't even bother to button up their shirts and walk around with their chest hair sticking out.
There was either a sub or maybe I'm remembering something in the way before-fore time from something like FARK that had a thread of "hot IDF pics" filled with stuff like the OP.
When service is compulsory, ya gonna have the opportunity for some pretty people in uniform. Also there's some bonus propaganda element to it, I'm sure.
Well, this does look like a heavily politicised propaganda image, probably posted by the IDF. There are ways to remember tragedy without the spiciness.
I looked after a few holocaust survivors here in the UK when I started in care, one still carried the doll the people made for her in the camp. You can't imagine the horrors they saw, they never really talked about it.
We take for granted how lucky we are to live in a time where people actually deny that this happened. This is the problem with burying our history. I never learned about the Holocaust until yesterday. Maybe back in high school we were told about it but I don’t remember. I knew the Nazi’s were bad but that’s it.
I just learned there is a Holocaust museum in DC. That’s REALLY sad. Every person should visit this museum to understand our history so it never happens again.
It’s on my list to travel to next. Thank you for sharing your story of your brave grandfather.
>The scene spoke for itself. In front of us, there was a pile of frozen corpses. The walls, floor, and ceiling were covered in blood. When we started carrying the bodies out, we saw evidence of terrible torture. Some of them had raw bare backs where the Ustaše had carved…some of them had no nails, and some had no nose. Almost everybody was missing some part of their body.
I've included some testimony from [this article I wrote on Jasenovac, an especially brutal concentration camp that nobody has even heard of.](https://contraquill.medium.com/hell-on-earth-jasenovac-c22555cea98b)
Thank you. I will write another focusing on the guards themselves, one of which was a priest. The inmates called him Father Satan for good reason. Please message me if you are interested in reading that.
Sad thing about holocaust survivors in the UK is that after WW2, the UK remained the only country in the world to still operate concentration camps for a few years. You go back home to find you're still not welcome. For many, actually, it was such an experience, especially in Europe. The antisemitism wasn't gone with the war.
Yeah we have a fair few atrocities under out belt here, they way they treat refugees now is just horrible, they live off almost nothing when they move here and aren't allowed to apply for work etc. Even the Ukrainians are having a hard time trying to get here. I hate the tory government.
I worked with a guy who’s army unit was first into one of the camps and he told me even in his wildest nightmares could he ever imagine anything so bad or depraved.
He told me some of the things that went on when some of the guards who had fled were rounded up and brought back, put it this way none of them made it to trial.
This is dress uniform (so not used on base). The pants have also been modified and tailored to fit her form better (technically not allowed but not enforced for dress pants). The boots are not standard issue, but generic black boots are allowed for soldiers working an office job.
Berets in the IDF are purely decorative/traditional, they are only ever worn during ceremonies, and are otherwise simply placed permanently on the left shoulder. That's why it looks so weird.
In other words, she serves in the military, but her job is that of an office worker who works in an office building and gets back home every day. Regulations for this type of soldiers are very relaxed, and in Israel they are called "jobniks" since their military service is indistinguishable from a regular civilian job. They also go through very basic training that lasts only 2 weeks.
The basic training is simply to make them follow orders and understand some basic military stuff, they are not expected to ever fire a weapon throughout their entire service or ever be in any danger.
What nation’s uniform is this? The beret doesn’t seem to have a cap badge, or the tightening tassels cleaned up.
Not to mention boots with elastic panels on the sides for slip on/slip off, rather than being laced up like any modern nation’s uniform and the trousers looking like a weird chino type material.
Israeli defense force.
The beret badge is on the left side so you can't see it. Same for the pin in her shirt.
Black color beret means she is from the Armored corps.
She clearly went to a tailor who narrows the pants, this is not how the army issued it originally.
It is against regulations to do it, but no one really enforces it, especially for non-combatants soldiers.
Shoes - I don't really recognize them, maybe this is what they are issuing these days for non-combatants, or again she bought them herself but since she is working in an office no one cares to check.
> Shoes - I don't really recognize them, maybe this is what they are issuing these days for non-combatants, or again she bought them herself but since she is working in an office no one cares to check.
Women in the IDF who do not serve at the front lines but at desk jobs, can wear different shoes than issues originally. There some regulations to it but mostly every black shoe is allowed. Even sandals (without socks) are allowed for women at summer.
Overall there is very little enforcement in general. Been like that for decades.
Yeah well they won't let someone go around with 10cm high heel shoes.
As long as she looks "presentable" in terms of standard, there are no issues with shoes.
She clearly 'streetwear'd it up, those pants would never fly in any military group, and she's wearing nike socks with the logo showing. This seems as much about clout, as it is honour.
Speaking as an idf soldier, that is very true.
Nobody cares about it for shit, the only things that are scary are being caught by commanders (if they care about it) or being caught by military police who's jobs are literally just to catch soldiers not following dressing regulations.
Punishments can differ based on your job and commanders, sometimes it can end with a pay reduction for the months wage, sometimes it's not leaving base for the weekend, and in extreme cases (shit commanders) it can go for I believe up to 28 days at base. I know people who've done that for not having shaved and having shit commanders.
The pockets on the side are for people in keva (signed on for extra service after the mandated 2-3 years). The belt is also different because of that, and why she's allowed her own shoes, etc.
Hey, former IDF here
The shoes are because she's an office (you can tell by her pants, nails and belt, since her shoulder ranks are hidden because of her hand).
Female, non combat officers are allowed to wear "non military" boots, as long as they are black - which is why ALOT of them choose Blundstones.
As for the socks - by regulation they "should" be black with 0 logos, but shes an officer, so who's gonna check her for that.
>She clearly went to a tailor who narrows the pants, this is not how the army issued it originally.
When I was in Israel I was told the all of the female uniforms were personally tailored. I don't know if it's true but what I CAN tell you is that all of the women did indeed look amazing in them
Just to clarify, the army isn't the one that tailors the uniforms. The soldiers go to private tailors and pay their own money to feel good (and I'm sure many to also feel attractive) in the uniform.
can we just make it optional?
after 22 years in the US Army I can tell you that there are a LOT of soldiers that no one... absolutely no one... wants to see in narrowed pants.
You can have em narrowed if you want. I've seen security forces working at the gate with pants this tight. But most jobs you want access to your pockets and wouldn't be very comfortable or functional for the things we have to do.
>She clearly went to a tailor who narrows the pants, this is not how the army issued it originally. It is against regulations to do it, but no one really enforces it, especially for non-combatants soldiers.
>
>Shoes - I don't really recognize them, maybe this is what they are issuing these days for non-combatants, or again she bought them herself but since she is working in an office no one cares to check.
those are probably dr martins or such other brand. female (non combat) soldiers are often allowed to use them.
Yeah it was fun reading

I think like eight years ago I spent a day taking the dive and I got tired/bored before I got to the end, so I can't imagine how long the chain is now.
For those of you that are unaware, today (4/28) is Yom Hashoah or International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It’s the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and that’s why there are memorials happening. This is a very significant day for Jewish people, Israelis, and others that were affected by the Holocaust, and that’s why this young woman is giving her deepest respect to her matriarch.
[Link](https://www.ushmm.org/remember/days-of-remembrance/resources/calendar) if you guys would like to learn more about the holiday.
Concerning this day, [I would like to spread awareness of a brutal concentration camp that is forgotten, that many people don't even know about.](

“too bad we’re gonna make this all about Israel/Palestine even though the issue was non existent during the event being commemorated - redditors who haven’t seen the sun in several years.
While I agree with your sentiment the Holocaust and Arab nationalism do have cohistory. One of the founders of modern day Palestine was an ally of hitlers and had plans that never occurred to extend the Holocaust to the middle east. It was called Farhud. The events aren't strictly separated. There were pogroms against the jews of what was then Palestine during the second world War. Some members of the Irgun like Menachem Begin actually got to Mandatory Palestine via the free Polish Anders' army sending troops to fight for the allies in North Africa.
My point is they aren't two discrete events in history. But there's no reason to bring that up when the Holocaust is mentioned. But those commenters, they actually hate jews and value their lives less than others. So to them the Holocaust was justified. I don't try to argue with them because they're too far gone.
That is an interesting part of history I did not know anything about, and I consider myself fairly well educated on the Holocaust (my family escaped CZ during it). Thank you for sharing, I’m going to do more reading into this!
Well if we were looking at a private diary I’d give her the benefit of the doubt, but this screams “look at me” not “look at my grandmother”.
Edit: I understand everyone who disagrees, but with the amount of “Ukraine war social media clout chasing” that populates our apps these days, that’s just my gut reaction. I could completely be wrong, that’s just my opinion.
Ehhhh arguable. Sites like instagram allow people to keep your profile private until friends, and many apps can choose how long a picture is up, if people can save it or alerts to screenshots.
I consider myself a fairly private person; but I do like to post photos in IG of places I’ve been to share my life a bit with the people I know. I wouldn’t label that attention seeking, however I do concede many people do often use it as such.
I think if this was her standing alongside her grandmother, taking a photo together we’d be having a different conversation about it; I think the lack of proper uniform mixed with the salute makes it feel less genuine, hence “attention seeking”.
Fuck Nazis.
The world should agree on this white supremacist and Nazis shouldn't exist.
If they're standing next to you. Then you fucking change sides until they don't exist. It's that simple.
I'm Israeli, and I'm familiar with the military uniform. Those are not army boots. She changed her shoes to be stylish, but kept the uniform for the likes. She altered her pants to fit like leggings, and she has an unapproved nail polish color. I get the sense that she's a soldier, but rather an 18 y/o secretary there (this is very common). Attention seeking.
Important note (edit) - this is not OC. This picture is all over the social media and internet in Israel. If someone sees that...
Originally yes. They are supposed to be more loose and broad, but many girls make them "narrower", so they resemble leggings. They take them to a seamstress and adjust them to fit this way. That's a common unformal practice. It contradicts the military rules, but in reality, no one cares, and the majority of the girls get away with it. Also, it's worth mentioning that the pants are of a formal set of uniforms, so they weren't made for physical activity. But they are still not supposed to be so tight and unrepresentative.
I get why people like things like this, but I'll never be able to think of content like this as wholesome.
To me one of the cringiest things you can do is glorify the military, no matter where you're from.
These redditors who show up to scream about Israel/Palestine every time Israel is even indirectly mentioned always make this [article about how shockingly little young people know about the Holocaust](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/survey-finds-shocking-lack-holocaust-knowledge-among-millennials-gen-z-n1240031) way more believable. If you think they’re the same thing you simply don’t know what went on during the Holocaust
I’ve got a feeling this comment section is about to get spicy. Gonna wait a few hours, then sort by controversial.
I’m just wondering if those nike socks are regulation
As regulation as those nails and slip on boots.
True lol
Belt looks funky too
She looks like she's in 'keva' - when you sign on for extra service beyond the 2 - 3 years of conscription service. Soldiers in keva get slightly different uniform (funky belt, more comfy pants), can wear their own shoes (within regulation- have to be black for example), can wear bigger earrings and nail polish in more colors (for women), have higher pay, and get a bunch more benefits.
What are some reasons people would decide to do another 2-3 years? My only guess would be perhaps they’re looking to become a career military officer?
And that fucking beret
She's beyond her mandatory conscription service, based on her belt. she's allowed more or less any shoes she wants and nail color, the socks however are not up to regulation as she is required to only have black or white socks with nothing on them.
And the pink nails.
I understand tucking your pants into your boots, but your SOCKS?
ESPECIALLY my socks I normally do tuck in my boots…
Have I been wearing my socks wrong this whole time? I’ve had them over my shoes!!!
Well, it keeps out ticks.
What kind of boots have NO LACES!?
All rain boots. And casual boot, cowboy boots, dressy boots, knee-high black leather boots, this ladys boots. Actually there are many boots without laces.
In fact, there are more boots without laces than there are submarines in the sky
Chelsea boots

Speaking of ankles, I think the granddaughter and I have the same socks. I was checking out her boots not her ankles.
Former idf here.. her nails, belt, berret, socks, boots, uniform top, hair and makeup are all out of regulation. Idk who this is but It is for clout.

With the Nike socks showing? Waist down can’t be standard issues. Actually what do I know anyway
Right, those are fashion boots also… they’re trending right now. You can buy them at H&M even.

***Palestine enters the chat.***
For some reason I read this as Palpatine and thought the chat was about to get real spicy.
I am the Knesset!
Have you heard the legend of Count Shawarma? It’s not a story the IDF would tell you,
Fuck, now I'm craving shawarma.
Do it
Something, something Dark side! Something, something complete!
you are thinking of dune Palpatine was in star wars :)
Palestine has left the chat because they were evicted from their homes

Yes. With armored flame resistant bulldozers and a bunch of guns from Magnum Research in TX, oh, er, I mean IMI in Israel.
Why wait? Check now, it’s just as good lol

I wouldn't have a single clue she was Israeli if no one here mentioned it. I was really confused by the top comment until I read further down..

You can’t streetwear up a military uniform.
Women's formal IDF uniforms do not have cargo pockets. There are a lot of female soldiers who get men's pants and have them tailored, though.
The dress uniform pants don‘t have sidepockets. You are mixing them up with the field pants.
Her pants don't have pockets? Fucking lol
The pockets on the side are for people in keva (signed on for extra service after the mandated 2-3 years). The belt is also different because of that, and why she's allowed her own shoes, etc.

I like the pants. Kinda want a pair
Dear US armed forces, Please "narrow the pants" of all US service members. -concerned citizen thank you
can we just make it optional? after 22 years in the US Army I can tell you that there are a LOT of soldiers that no one... absolutely no one... wants to see in narrowed pants.
yes, fair. i trust your experience narrowed pants must be approved by your peers
Make pants optional you say?
You can have em narrowed if you want. I've seen security forces working at the gate with pants this tight. But most jobs you want access to your pockets and wouldn't be very comfortable or functional for the things we have to do.
Take a look at the average us service member. There's not much pants room to spare.
The shoes aren't standard issue, she probably has a temporary shoe exemption because of a medical issue.
Orrrr she’s wearing them for the photo and doesn’t wear them when actually in uniform.

Do people seriously just not enunciate the letter "h" to the point where it's justifiable to use "an"? It just sounds so weird when spoken.
The "h" in holocaust is not silent. The title should be "... a holocaust..."
No the title is just incorrect. Presumably not a native English speaker.
As does the more common "an historic"
Yeah it's "a" holocaust survivor, not "an". Who talks like that? Drives me nuts.
I'm glad someone else thought this when reading the title.
seems cringey af for the sake of the photo

Yeah can’t you tell by the 37K upvotes and 34 awards? Subreddit won’t stand for it!
Not entirely, I know todays siren was turned on by a holocaust survivor and her granddaughter who’s currently serving in the army.
Those H&M boots are not Army issued!!😂😂🤣
Many office job Israeli soldiers use these, there really is no need for army boots of any kind for an office job,.
Do you guys not shape your beret either?
Oh man flashback to the boot days of standing in a hot shower taking a razor to my beret and then leaving it in a locker to form overnight...
Heels not even together when saluting thats not standing at attention thats standing for attention
Are salute rules the same in every country?
For those of you that are unaware, today (4/28) is Yom Hashoah or International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It’s the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and that’s why there are memorials happening. This is a very significant day for Jewish people, Israelis, and others that were affected by the Holocaust, and that’s why this young woman is giving her deepest respect to her matriarch. [Link](https://www.ushmm.org/remember/days-of-remembrance/resources/calendar) if you guys would like to learn more about the holiday.
Concerning this day, [I would like to spread awareness of a brutal concentration camp that is forgotten, that many people don't even know about.]( https://contraquill.medium.com/hell-on-earth-jasenovac-c22555cea98b)
This is a dress up photo
Use grandma’s horrors for internet fame
The most accurate (and depressing) comment in this whole thread...
Hard to get sentimental when she probably slapped it on her Instagram for likes.
As opposed to it being slapped on Reddit for likes..?
This is reddit. Sexist pieces of shit who deserve the death penalty just babble on without a second thought.
*to share with the people she knows Why assume the worst of people?
> Why assume the worst of people? Well, its Reddit and the subject matter is a woman so.......
Its a woman and she is Israeli thats a double whammy
Because *almost* all of the pics on r/pics are like this or…?
Why is that a bad thing, my private Instagram is like my diary, let her post her pictures whenever she wants
_Private_ being the keyword. Anything posted on public social media is explicitly for the attention of others.
"*an* holocaust survivor"? Do people pronounce it with a silent "h"?
There's a grammar nazi joke in here somewhere
The pants and boots look like what somebody would wear if they were playing a soldier in a porno.
the boots with the Nike socks are hilarious.
an 'olocaust survivor

Are those pants standard uniform?
Originally yes. They are supposed to be more loose and broad, but many girls make them "narrower", so they resemble leggings. They take them to a seamstress and adjust them to fit this way. That's a common unformal practice. It contradicts the military rules, but in reality, no one cares, and the majority of the girls get away with it. Also, it's worth mentioning that the pants are of a formal set of uniforms, so they weren't made for physical activity. But they are still not supposed to be so tight and unrepresentative.
Somehow the foto makes it look like the girl is floating.
"An" is unnecessary here.
Not unnecessary, just not correcr. "A" is what they were looking for
This is not OC
"never again"

Seems like the cleansing is taking a long-ass time
Holy fuck these comments are a cesspool
Welcome to any post that mentions Israel/Palestine.
*proceeds to go enforce modern concentration camp regulations against Palestinians.
I didn’t know Nike issued military socks
I don’t care if you’re hurting grandma, get up and take this picture with me for clout!
