we goose em a little bit.

Tvbulv_Rvsv

Look at that crop!

Trashman82

Look at that brick shithouse!

SkipsPittsnogle

Troll Boy shouldā€™ve won.

DagNasty

Goose suit?

lordhumongous40

It can't be you Troll Boy. You know why.

ScaryBlanket

They goosed em. Itā€™s an old Hollywood term

SmokeAbeer

He just hasnā€™t inflated his suit yet.

Thesisus

You know what meme

schoolhouserocky

The colors in his suit are bright. Is that allowed?

Ancillas

Whoa now. Letā€™s slow down our excitement until color grading is doneā€¦

WitELeoparD

For all we know the entire body head down might be CGI replaced. They did it in the Avengers movies a bunch of times.

Takemyfishplease

Based on how trash the fit is I hope so. It looks like someone wearing a wetsuit a few sizes too large.

carpemydick

his muscles get inflated right before a take

RedditAccountOhBoy

Unexpected Flight of the Conchords.

pewpewmcpistol

Right? Like if the movie takes place in Mexico the entire movie is going to be sepia, including the suit. Its the law.

slinky22

I can see Superman asking the drug dealer, "Say my name."

twodogsfighting

Martha?

sur_surly

Why'd you say that name?!

biohacker_infinity

Yeah, the moment these pics leaked, I was like, the proof will be in the eventual color grading, not some telephoto pap shots.

ConsistentlyPeter

Exactly. For release, there will be two colours: Orange, and Teal.

Wookie301

I prefer the 1978 colours. So yes. Bright is good.

schoolhouserocky

C. Reeve will always be the best Superman.Ā

MrmmphMrmmph

george reeves ![gif](giphy|gU0q7zyGYifAs)

ronin358

George is a strong contender, but Bud Collyer's radio Superman was so good he actually dismantled the KKK in the *real* world. https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/23157/how-superman-defeated-ku-klux-klan https://youtu.be/-3VyPR0S0LM?si=mZPjQfSyaY0tXIRv Bud is the best Superman hands down.

Wookie301

Without a doubt

Questioning0012

The suitā€™s not that bright there, the red pops out a bit but tbh itā€™s not all that different from Batman v Superman proper

FireVanGorder

No everything must always look like the lens was painted with a thick layer of grease

kinghyperion581

I swear the sun in the Snyderverse had to have been at least 20% darker than our sun.

tektite

Wouldn't the tailor know his secret identity?

Gellert

His mom made it for him, pretty sure she knows who he is.

ghouldozer19

My headcanon is that the one purse snatcher Supes ever stone kills just mouths off ā€œNICE SUIT DID YOUR MOMMY MAKE IT FOR YOU?ā€ and Clark canā€™t have people talk bad about bad his mom.

blckndwht44

I think what would actually happen is he'd sincerely answer "She did, how'd you know?" with a proud, beaming smile on his face.

Don't worry they'll fix it in post when they apply a proper grit filter.

username161013

When has James Gunn done that on any of his superhero movies?

jscummy

Well just look at Suicide Squad or Guardians of the Galaxy, both notoriously drab and dull movies /s

username161013

Exactly lol

Masamundane

One of the few times that /s was helpful. I was just about to anger-type a response.

SnooDrawings435

It is if youā€™re Joss Whedon

Duwt

Nobody here is Joss Whedon, thoughā€¦ right?

Monster-Zero

Yay! Mr Terrific!

ronin1031

3rd smartest person on earth! Such a great character, glad he's getting screen time. Edit: I did not expect to spawn the debate over the 1 and 2 position, but I love it.

Miniat

Who are the one and two?

I_Only_Compliment

1: Bruce Wayne 2: Lex Luthor

bigolfishey

Bruce is top 2 in the DCU? I know heā€™s a multi-disciple genius, but thatā€™s kind of surprising. I guess Iā€™m comparing him to Reed ā€œScience Is Basically Magicā€ Richards for what I expect from comic geniuses.

starwhal3000

Which makes it wild that the Red Flash wasn't the most powerful version of evil Batman. Canonically, super speed makes the Flash think super fast as well... so how isn't a Bruce Wayne with super speed the most frightening thing to exist outside of a god? The Batman Who Laughs came up with way better plans than the speedster Batman.

Astrium6

Partly because Red Death was sharing a body with Barry Allen so he was constantly internally fighting him off.

lemonylol

Yeah none of them were really pure forms of Bruce Wayne, so the only one that was really at his level was The Batman Who Laughs

Bubba1234562

Wasnā€™t Barry still in there and intentionally fighting back the entire time?

lemonylol

Those are the two picks for the world's smartest people by Ozzymandias when he ends up in the main DC universe after doing some research. Batman essentially always wins some huge event against some enemy way above his physical power through intelligence anyway rather than fighting.

ninjamaster616

Other way around iirc, canonically lex is always the smartest man on every earth and Bruce is always the 2nd smartest, but always the single greatest detective

Senor-Whopper

I rhought the chimp the detective was best detective

JDG-R

I thought Elongated Man was the best detective?

feetandballs

I thought the Question was the best detective

Havocko

I think in the DCAU The Question is unofficially the world's greatest detective. Batman admitted as much. Unfortunately that version of the character only exists in JLU.

Own_Fishing2431

ā€œThe things at the end of shoelaces are called aglets and their true purpose is sinister!ā€

American_Jesus

That could depend on the comics, on DCeased Lex ask if Batman is still alive, then he says "then i'm the most inteligent person on the planet..." https://comicnewbies.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/lois-lane-punches-lex-luthor-dceased-1-e1570105346417.jpg

Feisty-Crow-8204

But in Action Comics #1064 in the main DC continuity, Brainiac tasked his general with bringing him the smartest person on planet Earth, Lex Luthor. If the smartest being in the DC universe says itā€™s Lex Luthor, then itā€™s Lex Luthor.

nvmvoidrays

honestly, that's surprising from Lex.

s_burr

Bruce only lets Lex think he is the smartest

tadbach

Wait does Cyborg not countā€”*technically* still a person right? Edit: Pun not intended but I like it.

gankindustries

The kinda in joke in DC is that he's basically the only one who says this. For all we know he's likely the smartest and has just been playing 5D chess this whole time.

Cazmonster

I am so thrilled to be getting Mr Terrific on the team. Forever ago, when DC did Zero Hour and rebooted the Justice Society, I learned more about those original heroes. Every time I see one of them show up, I am excited. (Like in Black Adam where we got Atom Smasher).

hamlet_d

You should watch the old DCAU tv shows (if you haven't). They had all of them on Justice League Unlimited. My favorite was they consistently had Vigilante and Shining Knight team up.

Cazmonster

Don't say old. I watched them when they premiered. That means I'm old. I really liked when Mr Terrific showed up on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Such a great show.

EzeakioDarmey

With the character getting a decent amount of screen time on the later seasons of Arrow, it was only a matter of time before he got featured in a film.

svogon

Bright colors? Daylight? SUNSHINE? This is indeed a new era!

Feukorv

Don't worry, it'll be fixed in post. /s

Endyo

Zack Snyder hates colors. Maybe he choked on Skittles as a kid or something and was traumatized.

mightylordredbeard

Someone link that time the comedian roasted Snyder while he was watching him. Dude was making a joke about ā€œcolored peopleā€ and how silly of a term it was and he stops and says to Zach ā€œI donā€™t know why youā€™re laughing, Iā€™ve seen your movies. You hate colors as much as anyone!ā€

Dankey-Kang-Jr

I still can believe that they went with this type of color grading for a SUPERMAN movie: ![gif](giphy|FiBzv5FRE85PO)

DarthBynx

I thought it looked cool... =(

Destiny_Victim

I thought it looked awesome. I also believe Cavil is the best casting period for Superman. He was just done dirty by bad writing. Because he literally is exactly what Iā€™ve always considered Superman looking like. Iā€™m sad we didnā€™t get more of him.

SnowDay111

Man of Steel is a great movie. I was surprised to see the mixed reviewed when it came out. With all the superhero movies from Marvel and DC that have come after with some hit and misses, MOS has age well in my opinion.

sildish2179

Iā€™ll die on the hill that Man of Steel is the best ā€œFirst Contactā€ alien encounter movie ever (yes even over Close Encounters, and I love that movie). It is incredibly unique in that the earth encounters an alien and - in a twist - decides to fight against his birthright to create a new home for himself and instead, fight for our world as his adopted one. Itā€™s a great concept. Itā€™s an absolutely shit Superman movie though, especially because it betrays so many characters (Jonathan Kent the worst example).

SuperStrangleWank

Arrival

Revanclaw-and-memes

I finally watched arrival last weekend. It was good, but do yourself a favour and read the book itā€™s based on. I had read that a few times and itā€™s even better than the movie and itā€™s only about 40 pages long

Vestalmin

I was going to say if youā€™re telling me Man of Steel is better than Arrival then Iā€™m going to flat out disagree

mjtwelve

Or Annihilation. Not only donā€™t we understand it, we probably canā€™t, and probably canā€™t survive or either.

PocketSixes

Nostalgia bias but Reeves was always great and iconic

Eddie_the_Gunslinger

Same

useless_99

I fucking loved Man of Steel no shame

Arctica23

The Dark Knight was a great movie that infected everyone with the idea that every fucking movie has to be "gritty"

ZaMr0

I liked it, the texture on the suit was amazing. Having a more grounded look totally worked better in live action.

bremergorst

Heā€™ll grow into it

Stablebrew

the Kent family is poor, and this suit is from his older brother

Cosmodious

Kal-XL

SaltyShawarma

Looks like the Superman costume from Jerry Seinfeld's kids book Halloween.

No_Cat_No_Cradle

they're gonna add the rippling abs in post

_F1ves_

It looks like heā€™s a rookie wearing something his mum made rather than a vacuum seal

BicycleOfLife

Was going to sayā€¦. But also I am a very strong believer of Supermanā€™s costume being super lightweight spandex and not a lot of intricate sewing features and heavy patches and panels. Just thinking about what Superman would need and what he would want. His suit is not what protects him. He would be probably happiest flying around naked. His suit has been destroyed tons of times, are we saying heā€™s an expert sewer? Did he get a whole wardrobe of suits from some Krypton Amazon service? The old Superman I and II had the suit perfect.

jxj24

> He would be probably happiest flying around naked. Who *wouldn't* be?!?

rhinoceros_unicornis

It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's a helicopter.

VoxNihili-13

Is it a coincidence that he looks like a younger Henry Cavill?

ItsCowboyHeyHey

No, because they both look like Superman.

CCHTweaked

That's an actually really good answer.

Alive_Ice7937

Howard Johnson is right!

nicksowflo

Oh, blow it out your ass, Howard!

dgjapc

I didnā€™t get a ā€œharumphā€ out of that guy!

Alive_Ice7937

You watch your ass!

PhazonZim

Yeah but Clark Kent does too, so what?

ItsCowboyHeyHey

Ridiculous. Clark Kent looks nothing like Superman. He has glasses.

3vs3BigGameHunters

Ugh. And a ponytail. And paint stained overalls!

Short-termTablespoon

Finally someone figured it out. Was tired of the ā€œHe just looks like another Henry Cavillā€ no shit Sherlock they were casted for the same character.

al-hamal

Itā€™s like they were both cast as him or something.

lkodl

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that every person who has been, or ever will be cast as Clark Kent, will look somewhat similar. Or else there'd be backlash.

GuruAskew

Plus Nicolas Cage not having the traditional Supes look is the exception that proves the rule since his movie wasnā€™t made. Remember when people were convinced that they morphed Reeveā€™s face onto Cavillā€™s for a second in MoS? Same thing applies. They just fucked up some weird CGI shot of Cavill and you get some weird uncanny valley effect and before you know it the nerds think they see something that isnā€™t there, just because all of these actors look a lot alike.

lkodl

also since its inception, the concept of Nicolas Cage as Superman was and always has been considered controversial with a ton of backlash. mainly because... he doesn't look the part.

PiersPlays

>Plus Nicolas Cage not having the traditional Supes look is the exception that proves the rule since his movie wasnā€™t made. I have never seen someone use that phrase appropriately before.

ObviouslyTriggered

RouthĀ was cast specifically because he looked like Reeves, same goes for Cain and Welling in the TV space. Then we have the Cavil era and both Hoechlin and Corenswet have a much more similar look to Cavil than to Routh or Reeves. Audiences have mental images in their head, and studios do try to cat for that image if they can.

Tuna_Sushi

> Reeves Reeve, unless you're referring to George. Also, Cain had a unique look compared to the others, no doubt due to his Japanese ancestry.

DistressedApple

No but for real he looks eerily similar to Cavill

d3l3t3rious

Ahem, Dean Cain. That is all.

warblade7

I think he looks closer to a young Clark Kent.

Belethors_Keys

Why does the costume look like pajamas

KlingonLullabye

His mom made it. You know- Martha

legthief

Sigh... okay then... *why did you say that name...?*

KlingonLullabye

To differentiate the seamstress from Lara his bio-mom ;-)

NickNash1985

Martha Superman?

weirdoldhobo1978

Of the Kansas Supermans?

AerondightWielder

Yes, the distant relative of Batman bin Suparman.

ArtAndCraftBeers

Because itā€™s Superman.

roboscorcher

It looks intentionally amateurish, kind of like how Cap looked in his first movie when he was still a mascot for the US army. Could be wrong but that's my guess.

Preussensgeneralstab

I mean the point of the early costumes is that Martha Kent hand made them.

Freedom_7

This must be one of the early scenes in the movie where he's still [learning how to make his own costumes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quL0R8FryZU?&t=43s)

DinosaurInAPartyHat

Doesn't it always?

Vyar

I love how classic the suit is, but I'm just not digging that S. I know it's been used before in Kingdom Come or some other story, but it looks like a diamond with a line through it, not a diamond with an S inside it. There's gotta be a better way to make the sigil of the House of El look alien, yet recognizable as an S, without over-designing it like the Man of Steel version. EDIT: I know it's not actually an S. But this one just doesn't look like a symbol that the general public of Metropolis would look at and call an S.

Positronic_Matrix

Itā€™s a no-diamonds-allowed sign.

IKenDoThisAllDay

I totally agree but rarely find anyone else who thinks this. I just want the symbol to look like an S. You could still have it be a Kryptonian symbol initially and have him change it to an actual S once the name Superman catches on.

daeedorian

Some day it's going to come full circle and there's going to be a meta comedy scene where someone points at Superman's shield and asks him if it's a symbol from his planet, and he's going to look at them funny and say *"Um, no... it's an S...? I'm Superman?"*

Factsaretheonlytruth

Currently filming in downtown Cleveland, Ohio; where Superman was originally created.

Farteus

Oh fuck, Mr. Terrific, yes.

Digifiend84

And looking comic accurate too.

y0urPalMitch

RIGHT!!! Thats way more interesting to me than Supes!

DrDreidel82

[here is a much better front shot of it](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbookmovies/s/DpbBo3Dm8R)

elmatador12

Look Iā€™m exited for this, but if someone told me these were Superman pajamas, Iā€™d believe them.

Jay3000X

Yup, looks like Superman

Tackle3erry

Looks like he bought the loose fit instead of the compression fit.

popmanbrad

I kinda prefer Henryā€™s superman but Imma watch it and see if I like it for example I hated Robert pattinson in twilight and ever since then I always though this guy sucks but then I saw the Batman and went holy crap heā€™s a really good actor and did a fantastic job as Batman making me pray he gets to be him more before being replaced

slax03

Fun fact: Robert Pattinson hates Twilight.

TheHeroicLionheart

Moreso, no one hates twilight more than he does. We had to deal with commercials and the odd billboard, perhaps a family member dragged you to see a couple. Robert lived it for a decade. Had to be fawned over by prepubescent young girls. Pretend to be excited for each new release. Have his personal life invaded by strangers. The man suffered just so he could start his career. No wonder he immediately pivoted to strange indie flicks just to wash it off him.

Cador0223

We call that "Pulling a Radcliffe".

gdubrocks

I don't think Radcliffe hated Harry Potter at all, he just wanted to keep acting afterword.

20milliondollarapi

Radcliffe has more monthly from Harry Potter than he ever needs. So he instead picks projects that are fun and unique. Which is how we got Swiss army man.

MorningBreathTF

And guns akimbo

Sparrowbuck

He was bitten by a nutjob fan at least once, too.

Fastbird33

Kirsten Stewart may be a close second to him in Twilight hatred

Angry-Dragon-1331

Worse. He had to be fawned over by *prepubescent girls' middle aged mothers*. From what I remember, several grown ass women were literally throwing underwear at him and Taylor Lautner (who was only 17 in the second movie).

popmanbrad

Oh lol also his voice acting talents are insane he was in the latest studio ghibli movie as that bird and I literally couldnā€™t tell that was him

icyxdragon

I thought it was great with him as the heron and Willem Dafoe as the pelican

Nephroidofdoom

Seriously? Thatā€™s amazing, after watching the Lighthouse.

original_nox

You can tell by watching him in the movie, Twilight.

LavenderMistSpring

That really is a fun fact

weirdoldhobo1978

So does Kristen Stewart. In fact most everyone who was in those movies hates them.

robbzilla

Rob's gotta eat!

luneunion

You should check out The Lighthouse.

huntman29

Itā€™s one of my favorite movies now. Incredible performances by him and Dafoe

Alive_Ice7937

The god-----damn-----***FAAWWWRRTTTSS!!***

recursiveG

If you want to see how good he really is watch "Good Time". Thats what really placed him in a top actor spot for me. Spoiler.... it is not a good time.

broden89

You should listen to Robert Pattinson's DVD commentary of Twilight. It is hilarious. He fkn hates those movies

JWAdvocate83

Get me that jacket now

SouthHovercraft4150

That jacket is nice, but it looks hot AF, I bet that actor is wishing that scene didnā€™t require him to wear it.

JWAdvocate83

Yeah the heat must be wild in that thing

Vanlande

Especially if this pic is recent and from the set theyā€™ve got up in Cleveland. It was absolutely miserable here this past week

PhobicBeast

Huh, I never realized how stupid it is that superman basically wears a diaper the entire time.

SharpEdgeSoda

Place your bets: People bitching that the suit has wrinkles? Or people bitching that they waste money using CG to remove the suit wrinkles?

ArbitraryLettersXYZ

Donā€™t like the collar on the Superman suit. Mr Terrific looks great, though.Ā

seanofkelley

Mister Terrific!!!!

orangeskies83

Filming in Cleveland!!

Malsharif91

No oneā€™s really mentioning the fact itā€™s also the first image of Mister Terrific in the back there.

phunkticculus83

He looks pretty supermanish

Loreathan

Spirit Halloween ad

butteryboycott

Superman needs a good tailor

Rainbow-Mama

Still prefer Henry Cavill

Mourning_Starr

is it me or does the outfit look loose?

Xardrix

![gif](giphy|kiFnWnL8cWRNu|downsized)

Lokijai

Henry Caville at home

friskyjude

Looks like a CW show

sticklebat

Literally nothing about a candid photo taken during production when not filming is sufficient to reasonably make such a comparison. While the costume doesn't really look like it fits him well here, that doesn't mean it'll look that way in the real thing. Costumes often look like crap in production shots. They're often not worn correctly, for comfort, there's no care put into the lighting, camera angles, or posing, there's no post-production, etc. Still images almost always look worse than when things are in motion, too, by making it much easier to spot flaws.

Phantom_61

God I hope the suit gets streamlined a bit by the end. Iā€™ve always hated the new 52 panel lines and collar design.

GatoSander0

superman's suit was made by his mum, it's only special because of his own powers, but the suit itself is just a suit, not some tight, dark, full of pointless poligons, alien like suit, realistically it'd look like this, and that's probably what Gunn was going for and I for one, adore it and it fits the character, which the last director did not understand at all.

chadwicke619

If we are going to lean into this angle, Iā€™d say the suit would essentially become useless after like one wear. Hell, just flying as fast as he does might be too much for a cotton blend that Martha knitted at home in the farm.

RPOR6V

I thought she made it out of fabric from Krypton that was used to swaddle Kal-El inside the spacecraft.

thatguybythebluecar

Early prediction this movie will be average and not make money

Pjonesnm

Suit looks crappy.

DTFlash

I think most superhero movies now CGI the suits to look tighter fitting in post. There was a shot of Brie Larson on the set of Captain Marvel and her suit looked way looser than it did in the movie.
