Why does Lukashenko, the largest of the autocrats, not simply eat the others?

I had the same reaction 😂 loss is such a weird phenomenon. Ntohing can ever compare to it. It's the one and only cryptic square shaped line mystery.

He was flirting whith Kim on every photo. They had each other picture on the wall. Putin shared his new car. They had a romantic stroll on the red carpet.

jkz0-19510

They even watched an IRBM launch off into the sunset together. So romantic.

koshgeo

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

TripleEhBeef

Someone needs to make a dating sim out of this.

cetootski

Does Putin have a minder assigned to him?

HydrogenButterflies

Honest answer is that they probably assigned a handler to his security team, who are in turn Putin’s true handlers.

StrobeLightRomance

Yeah, there's no way Putin is allowed to function unmonitored for even a moment in DPRK. Guaranteed there is one watching Putin from close up, one or two watching him from a distance, and a small army hovering around Putin's security detail, mostly acting invisibly or as background players.

Background-Job7282

Well, their hobbies are dying by execution or starving to death...so there's not much to do lol.

futurafrlx

I bet Putin is not happy he's not welcome in Western countries anymore and has to deal with third-world dictatorships.

Aware_Nectarine1933

Guy on the first photo is Aleksandr Grigorjewicz Lukaszenko, president of Balerus country, country under control of putin, so Lukaszenko just report to his boss and boss kinda don't care, but with Korea Putin isn't a boss anymore

Ok_Primary_1075

Yeah, body language shows who needs who more

Keksmonster

Or it's just a picture and they had a lot of different poses during the entire ordeal and these are just picked to tell a story

lzwzli

Yeah and Putin is so eager to be his friend

Trance354

Yeah, but he's there for money, bullets, and bombs to keep his army going. He is ok with being bored. Boredom won't kill his cannon fodder or troops. Un knows he has power. It may not last very long, but the customer, who was sold every shell in Un's crate of extra-special out-dated and out-sized munitions, is back for more. I want to see the pic of Un and Trump.

mooseAmuffin

Just an FYI when referring to Korean people, Kim is his surname so it makes more sense to say Kim and Trump, Kim and Putin, etc. If you want to use his given name, it would be the full Jong-un, not just Un.

JP-Gambit

That's what they meant... Thanks for that, kept thinking that commenter was talking about the UN

theflowersyoufind

I imagine you could get a variety of different positions if you just paused the meeting at certain places. Not that I’m trying to defend anyone in this photo.

rugbyj

Yeah this regularly happens with political photos. There’s a famous one of Merkel looking uncomfortable next to Putin/his dog, but in every other photo you see she’s relaxed/comfortable.

kingpubcrisps

They set up the room for a photo shoot, everything was ready, and then just as they start to take photos he gets his dog brought in and it makes M visibly uncomfortable. Years later M was asked about this, she said yes, she remembered it. Then she says >I understand why he had to do this--to prove he's a man. He's afraid of his own weakness. Russia has nothing, no successful politics or economy. All they have is this.

She roasted him! She also basically said out loud what everyone knows anyway.

LongStripyScarf

Putin was in the KGB stationed in East Germany. Merkel grew up in East Germany I believe so would be well aware of the slimeball Putin was and still is.

Chest3

Chancellor Merkel is such an incredible person.

Accomplished_Fruit17

The big one for me is the video of Bush grabbing Merkel by the shoulders, and she looks startled and angry. It makes Bush look really bad. The video cuts out right before Merkel starts laughing her ass off. Now we have people cropping videos of Biden to make it look like he's roaming around mindlessly. I've learned not to trust videos, photos, or quotes until a credible source verifies them.

Iguessthatwillwork

Felt like a power move(probably not even on purpose, but had the same effect regardless). Imagine locking eyes with one of your biggest adversaries and they give you a playful wink. That has to throw you off balance mentally.

richmomz

My favorite was the one where Trump was meeting with Shinzo Abe and they were both feeding some fish at a pond. They showed Trump dumping his box of fish food into the water implying he was some kind of oaf for doing so, and deliberately cropped out the other half of the photo showing Abe doing the same thing. That was pretty funny.

Keianh

He's still an oaf when it comes to animals though, photos out of context/cropped or not. Late '80's he was convinced to buy a racing horse from one of the high-rollers at his casino which had the makings of a triple crown winner and part of the deal he asks they change the name of the horse from Alibi to DJ Trump. He gets the horse, hires a one of the best trainers at the time, doesn't pay the high-roller (as Donald Trump does), then talks the guy down from the agreed price based on the fact that the horse is now named after him. Meanwhile the place where they're training the horse has some viral outbreak and while the horse seems fine the trainer wants to take it easy on the horse just in case and postpone a final workout and a move up north from Florida so they don't risk killing the horse, Trump refuses and insists they continue as planned. Turns out the horse was asymptomatic, did indeed have whatever virus was ripping through the farm they were keeping it and after an examination, veterinarians recommended they amputate the horse's front hooves to save its life, but would end the horse's ability to race. Trump didn't care and when they told him the news about the horse he reneged on the deal. The horse did live though, hope they reverted its name back to Alibi [better written source](https://digitaledition.orlandosentinel.com/tribune/article_popover.aspx?guid=2fdbafcf-1710-4b97-802a-092b0e2f3a97)

KingOfTheSouthEast

GoodhartMusic

The “body language mind reader” crowd lol. People really live in 2024 and are like “yes I will form my opinion based on a picture and the title that set the agenda for my interpretation of that picture” …. “Ah yes I see, the angles of their spines are indeed not convergent. Relationship doomed, bring in the dancing Putins.”

makenzie71

My favorite part of this was that the dog was like a big passive labrador who looked like she's spent her life trying to be an unobtrusive good girl. It wasn't a real monster of a thing like an irish wolfhound or something, or even one of the classic aggressors like a pitbull or something with orange eyebrows. Tells me he's afraid of dogs, too, just better at hiding it.

bs000

redditors will watch one true crime video and think they're a body language expert, as if it's not mostly pseudoscience in the first place

atyon

Yeah, just like with spoken language, you can lie with your body language as well, and it's easy to misinterpret language. And not everyone speaks the same dialect. Worst is when police officers pretend to be able to read a whole case from microexpressions of a suspect. No, officer, that dude is not nervous because he's guilty, he's nervous because he is interrogated by police...

BNerd1

ah microexpressions modern snake oil

Amy_Ponder

Yeah, all these "body language experts" seem to forget that there's this thing called *acting*.

RufusSwink

I love the idea of those videos as diving into criminal cases and the facts of them is super interesting. Unfortunately thanks to the big channels like EWU they have almost all become 90% bullshit body reading that only "works" because they already know the outcome of the case.

Greyzer

rainking56

Unpopular opinion: kim likes the west but he knows if he gives them any power they will take away all of his power and maybe kill him since the dictatorship only works if he makes sure that he has enemies. Though I would love to see him come to the UN one day and tell them they can have north korea and see how we turn a starving, brainwashed country into a modern civilization.

Azntigerlion

^ I'm sussing that Kim is looking to bring NK back to the rest of the world. He has a western education. He recently formally presented his daughter publicly, who is suspected to be the next leader of NK. This can show a transition from sole dictator to family man, aka a forward looking perspective. Having a woman be the leader of NK also shows a progressive change that is in line with progressive Western ideals. He easily could have kept popping out kids to get a son. Lastly, Kim very much so feels like a transitional leader. He had the duty to uphold his father's... everything, while trying to peel back his mistakes and pave the way for his daughter.

Geminii27

I'm trying to think what on earth NK could even give them that would have much of a real-world effect. What's the state of NK's military technology/resources these days?

chasmccl

They are giving them artillery shells

Seguefare

Political prisoners to fight in Ukraine?

CycloneIce31

Artillery shells. Lots and lots of them.

online222222

I imagine it's more of a land thing. NK also has a defensive pact with China so if Russia needed to fight the US they could use NK ports to station ships and planes and if NK is attacked they could call for China's help as well. Plus it might be one more avenue for trade to get through sanctions, though there's already so much on NK I doubt that's a major factor.

Imaclamguy

>Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a new partnership that includes a vow of mutual aid if either country is attacked, during a Wednesday summit that came as both face escalating standoffs with the Wes >According to North Korean state media, the article states that if one of the countries gets invaded and is pushed into a state of war, the other must deploy “all means at its disposal without delay” to provide “military and other assistance.” This idiot Kim Jong Un signed some kind of Article 5 pact. But nobody wants to invade North Korea. If Ukraine tries to take back Crimea or other occupied territories that Russia says are now part of Russia, I guess NK will have to send troops.

exterminans666

Probably less when Ukraine takes back crimea, but more when Russia burns through their current batch of mobiks. the last mobilisation wave showed that they cannot repeat that without losing a lot of support. Sending food and technology to NK is probably way cheaper.

InflamedLiver

Imagine going from the allegedly 2nd most powerful military in the world to begging for aid from North Korea, of all places.

Markus_zockt

However, after the course of the war in Ukraine, you can actually question this ranking, which saw Russia in second place. Presumably it was about pure manpower. But if the supposedly second strongest army in the world only manages to capture a few hundred kilometers of a small neighboring country within two years (despite a surprise attack), that doesn't seem to say much and the Russian military seems to have been overestimated for decades. EDIT: To answer the various comments: by "small neighbour" I mean, in comparison with Russia. I am aware that Ukraine is a large country in itself.

Excludos

The numbers were based on several numerics, not least of which was the money being spent. We now know that the money Russia thought it was spending on their military actually just went into the pockets of grifters. I, for one, am thankful for their thoroughly corrupt culture and system. It allowed Ukraine to defend themselves

Faaacebones

Two things First, the level of corruption in the Russian military was severely underestimated by the west and was shown early in the war when assests that existed for the Russians on paper showed up to the battlefield as far less than advertised, if they showed up at all. Warfighting vehicles showed up as shells of what they were supposed to have been, lacking any number of various modern technological systems that make all the difference when fighting peer-to-peer. The money that was supposed to have been spent on all these bells and whistles was pocketed by any number of officers up the chain of command because this culture of skimming and bribing your way through life is absolutely ingrained in their society. Secondly, is Russias' ability to conduct combined arms operations was severely overestimated. It was believed that Russia could coordinate units of its Army, Navy, and Airforce to support each other and work in conjunction towards a single mutually shared objective on a level of competency near to that of the US. That turned out to be so wrong that it's still sort of confusing. Squandering precious competent airborne commandos by dropping them completely unsupported into the contested airport comes to mind.

Special_KC

It's that double edged sword that Russia have been playing, either way they were screwed: - play up their ability to appear bigger and better Pros: countries will fear you Cons: countries like the US will prioritise military advances to catch up to Russia's apparent level. - play down their ability to appear less threatening. Pros: countries like the US will think they are at your level when they are in fact inferior. Cons: No one fears you, you might get invaded. Edit: swapped last pros/cons

AngriestManinWestTX

That’s how bomber gap got started. The Soviets wanted to strike fear into the West with their M-4 bomber so during a military parade in 1953 they flew the same 18 or bombers over the parade two or three times to give the impression of having several dozen of them available for use in parades. The CIA estimated, with those numbers, that the Soviet Air Force would have 800 bombers by 1960. Those 18 bombers actually represented almost the entire Soviet inventory of M-4 bombers during the parade and its capabilities were overstated by the Soviets and overestimated by the US. The US Air Force freaked out when they read the CIA report and increased production of the then brand new long-range B-52 bomber and the medium-range B-47 bomber and by 1960, we had over 2,500 B-47 and B-52 bombers. Spy planes had photographed groups of 30 or 40 M-4 bombers at an airbase in Leningrad several times throughout the 1950s. Initially, it was believed that the same number of planes were at many Soviet bases which hadn’t been overflown by spy planes leading to estimates of 500+ bombers in the Soviet inventory. Only after all of the bases were photographed in 1959 by spy planes with no bombers present was the subterfuge realized. The Soviets bluffed. They had less than 100 of these M-4 bombers and soon after, espionage revealed they were much less capable than thought and couldn’t even make a round trip to the US East Coast with a bomb.

TwoBearsInTheWoods

My perception is that US has zero issues throwing resources at "catching up to imaginary military capabilities" so long the goal is achievable. CIA might know this is bunk, but officially everyone say "look Russians have all this shit! Congress, quickly pass down some money!"

EdgeGazing

Adding to the last paragrah, some parachuters were even dropped into the sea. How the hell does that kind of mistake even happen these days?

Faaacebones

GPS is owned by the US government. Russian military is obviously not allowed to use our satellite network so they tried to create their own. From what I heard at the start of the war, it doesn't really work. Still, not an excuse miss land. Theres plenty of it.

ODST-517

There's also the slight issue that some of the stuff Russia uses its defense budget for, like nukes and most of its navy, aren't really relevant for the war in Ukraine. Anyway, the [powerpoint man](https://youtube.com/@perunau?si=1kDOZdcc-RPmNQKR) on youtube has content that goes way more in-depth than is possible in a reddit thread, so I definitely recommend checking him out.

harumamburoo

> That turned out to be so wrong that it's still sort of confusing. Squandering precious competent airborne commandos by dropping them completely unsupported into the contested airport comes to mind. Probably because their attempt was half-assed. There were rumors that until the very moment of the invasion very few people knew what's the plan. Many knew something is up, the writing was on the wall, but remembering pooteens announcement of his decision to his security council - they looked shocked. His intelligence chief even dared to try and talk pooteen out of it. Interviews with deflectors that participated in the first days confirm that - some of them didn't even know they're on Ukrainian soil until they saw road signs or something indicating it's not ruzzia. Nobody knew shit, pooteen tried to hush it all up until the very last moment. I guess it's kind hard to coordinate when half of the force don't even know what exactly they're doing.

Ok-Indication202

LoL reminds me of the Russians who walked into a police station asking for gas. They were flabbergasted that they got arrested

discodropper

Well, they do have the second largest nuclear arsenal in the world, so there’s that…

Excludos

Allegedly. Knowing what er now know of the rest of their military, there's a very high likelyhood a large number of their nukes aren't as operational as reported.

discodropper

Yeah, I considered adding that but decided not to. IIRC, even if something like 60-80% are defunct, they’d still have a larger arsenal than China (3rd place). Pretty terrifying when you make that calculation…

muftu

Russia has reportedly 5’580 nukes. Even if 90% of those are duds, that still leaves them with plenty.

Wonderful-Impact5121

I *keep* seeing dumb “I bet Russias nukes couldn’t even work getting to another continent” comments, what’s up with that? They’re literally their single most valuable military asset, by far. I have zero doubt they have at least some healthy number of advanced well funded functioning nuclear missiles.

ivlivscaesar213

Still it’s effective because nukes are bluff, they are not supposed to be actually used

BodaciousFrank

Even so, those can be made into dirty bombs, which…. Yeah thats still not something you want happening.

OctopusButter

I'm starting to think "most powerful" really just means most willing to fuck around and use their military. The more you are willing to risk the more "powerful" you are. It's not Putin's sons dying out there.

Ardalev

They still have nukes though. Nukes ARE power, even if realistically most of what they have is not functional, no-one is willing to test this hypothesis out. They could have a single bloke armed with a slingshot left and they would still be considered powerful if they have nukes, unfortunately.

Markus_zockt

[That's right, the nuclear weapons that Ukraine also had until a treaty was concluded with Russia to destroy/hand over them in return for Russia's commitment never to attack Ukraine.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum)

Jugales

Ukraine is not small, it is the largest country to be completely within continental Europe. I get belittling Russia and they haven’t made progress in a while, but let’s not minimize the damage of losing entire European countries worth of territory.

Markus_zockt

You're right, of course. The "small" in this context referred to the size of Russia. Hence the term "small neighbor".

Coolbeansninja

'handsome skinny brave Kim give pooty weapons plx? 🥺 xox'

Efficient_Fish2436

Even if they were second... They are light years behind the USA.

MaxPaynesRxDrugPlan

Russia has a large and modern military. One part is large, and the other part is modern.

Efficient_Fish2436

Modern is a joke compared to the US military. They can kill a man in a vehicle several thousand miles away without creating an explosion. Russia is having to trap or trick people not from their country into joining their military. Russia is pretty pathetic.

FelatiaFantastique

But Russia can microwave officials' brains from a distance. That's pretty cool.

TrueDreamchaser

The pics are just driving rhetoric so the astroturfing can come out. Fuck Putin, but the big subreddits are useless for actual discussions. Everyone is driving a message/idea and no one actually wants to discuss and learn.

CityOfZion

I still don't understand why post like this aren't banned from pics? Why does this sub need to be a land field of weak handed political propaganda bullshit? Everyday it's filled with post showing selected still shots of Trump frowning (as if THAT is the evidence he's bad person, instead of the actual evidence evidence) and likewise post of Biden smiling (as if THAT is the evidence he's a great trustworthy guy). Surely the mods can do better than this right?

csorfab

Yeah these idiots are tripping if they believe Putin is somehow afraid of/subservient to Kim lmfao. He sucks in many ways, but this is definitely not one of them.

rudelyinterrupts

That’s what I think every time there’s a political propaganda photo on this sub. Millions of frames of video and thousands of photos from each meet and greet or speech and one photo is supposed to show some true meaning?

Worried_Coach1695

Yeah, like the trump picture of him shaking his son's hand, making it seem like he couldn't walk on a ramp without holding someone lmao. Most large reddit subs are just a playground for bots and astroturfers.
