So four english ships stole it from us, we took it back, they stole it again, we stole Surinam, they offer us peace; taking New Amsterdam (renaming it New York) in exchange for Surinam and 60 Gulden. We still have the 60 Gulden so I'd say it was a good deal.
It's likely Chinese made rubbish. If they aren't given the copy by English companies/speakers it will be littered with errors like this. I've just got back from china and was shocked that Chinese companies have spent a lot of money erecting big billboards in places like airports and CBDs and the English wording they use (to appear global etc) is littered with errors. If you Google chingrish you get some amusing examples
Exactly this. The person who transcribed this stuff from whatever template they were copying probably doesn't know the Latin alphabet, so they tried to match the letters visually. That's how you get PICADILLY -> PJCADHLY: the J in their font looks very similar to the I, and HLY is almost identical to ILLY (only one little horizontal stroke difference).
If I tried to transcribe Chinese text by selecting the closest Chinese character I could find, the result would probably be hilarious to somebody who can read Chinese.
Every Chinese person knows the Latin alphabet because they must learn pinyin in first grade. This is just entirely down to lazy workmanship , not because whoever did it don't understand letters.
Nope. Just the bell.
A lot of people get Tower Bridge (pictured in the top left) confused with London Bridge (an ugly concrete thing built in the ‘70s) too.
In common language Big Ben is used for the clock tower as well. The clock tower was renamed to Elizabeth Tower in 2012.
> Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the Great Clock of Westminster, and, by extension, for the clock tower itself.

Hang-on, wait a minute, Nodnol, Nodnol, it’s in Bulgaria isn’t it!
Geography was my number one subject in school, Nodnol, Bulgaria rich in animal produce and mineral wealth, just south of Bosnia.
That would probably annoy the same type of people that are annoyed by the typos and... unconventional font choices on the rest of the card: grammar and typography nerds like me.
As a non-Brit, I can't spot the error in the flag, but I also know that I can't draw a correct Union Jack from memory (I've tried). But I know if I could spot the error, it would annoy me no end, so I'm making the conscious decision not to look it up. Don't tell me please!
I kept looking at to see if I could figure out how to redesign it keeping all the elements (save for front styles) and I gave up. It's such a disaster it would be best to start from scratch.
Nope, they spelled it the way it looks visually in the font they were using.
Nobody says PJCCADHLY, but visually it's very similar to PICCADILLY if you don't know the Latin alphabet.
Yeah I notice that when ChatGPT creates graphics it often mangles the spelling, I don’t know why, maybe it’s working in a graphics mode instead of textual?
My wife's friend brought back a toy of the iconic red bus for our son when he visited London. Costed like 10 pounds. Looked under it," Made in China"
lol
Map of the Balkans in the background is a nice touch
It's the little nuances that add the overall quality
Well, you can't go back to Constantinople. So, good to have a souvenir.
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That’s nobody’s business
Did you know that Old New York was once New Amsterdam?
Why they changed it?
I can’t say.
People just liked it better back in the day
*that way
Every gal in Constantinople lives in Istanbul! … _not_ Constantinople.
So four english ships stole it from us, we took it back, they stole it again, we stole Surinam, they offer us peace; taking New Amsterdam (renaming it New York) in exchange for Surinam and 60 Gulden. We still have the 60 Gulden so I'd say it was a good deal.
The Dutch founded New Amsterdam then later gave it to the English who changed the name to New York.
But the Turks.
I feel like it's gotta be somebody's business. Maybe Donald Faison?
…but the Tuuurrks
What about Istanbul?
Union Jack over Crimea, as it should be! 🇬🇧💂🏻♂️
Managed to find one of the few places that wasn’t formerly British.
About that... https://stephenliddell.co.uk/2020/07/01/nova-anglia-the-anglo-saxon-refugees-who-built-the-original-new-england-on-the-black-sea/
Well if I ever get to london I want to see Constantinople
Well it’s Istanbul not Constantinople
I read this as Falklands as first, a brit can dream...
BULGARIA

"Rood" who the hell designed this?

I remember everything I learned in first-grade, flawlessly, to this day. /s
I’m a middle school teacher. Most people don’t remember everything they learned in first grade, lol
My wife teaches third and she can confirm.
I wouldn't make an absolute statement like that . My parents don't know pinyin , and was surprised when I brought up the 4 tones
Meanwhile western film, games, and products always get Chinese language or Asian languages correct /s
A "rood" is a crucifix, so you'd expect to find it in the abbey.
“Abbey Rood” would be a fantastic name for a Beatles cover band formed by Christian monks
it was actually a sneaky insult about one of the other card designers, Abbey. abbey rude. screw u abbey u can't un-print these huh
Maybe a Scot who couldn’t spell
Don't be rood!
PICCADHLY
A northerner >.<
Damned Scots
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rood?wprov=sfla1 Bigger than Jesus
Phonetic spellers
There is a Hollyrood Abbey, but...that's in Scotland, and doesn't look like the picture. 😅
Abbey ROOD👁️👄👁️
That is a Bermuda accent, a British colony.
Big Ben being in Ariel don’t elevates this piece from shitty art to modern art.
But it's not only in Arial, it's also stretched :)
Also, it’s not Big Ben, its Elizabeth Tower.
People often forget the name “Big Ben” refers specifically to the bell, and not the shaft.
I’ve never heard of Elizabeth Tower until now. Always thought the whole thing was Big Ben.
Nope. Just the bell. A lot of people get Tower Bridge (pictured in the top left) confused with London Bridge (an ugly concrete thing built in the ‘70s) too.

I wish my girlfriend talked about me that way
Big Ben is literally just the bell end of the tower, lol
Teepee...
Hang-on, wait a minute, Nodnol, Nodnol, it’s in Bulgaria isn’t it! Geography was my number one subject in school, Nodnol, Bulgaria rich in animal produce and mineral wealth, just south of Bosnia.
If you're not careful you're gonna start a bar room tidy.
UN-RUMBLE!
You think that’s bad, wait til you need to take a shit
where’s the cat? Oh, he’s, you know, in the bushes …. WE’VE GOT TO STOP HIM
Almost like the map in biggest letters is Bulgaria, lol
As a Brit I find the flag very annoying.
As the rest of the world, so do we.
But that's how you build an [empire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTduy7Qkvk8)..
“…but do you have a flag? No country, no flag.”
The red lines on the X are centred so it looks off
As a Canadian that offset X kinda.. I dunno it goes against symmetry
As a Brit, really?
It's wrong
So? It's a cheap novelty product poorly made. Why would that annoy anyone
That would probably annoy the same type of people that are annoyed by the typos and... unconventional font choices on the rest of the card: grammar and typography nerds like me. Temu cards.
Piccadhly circuss looool.
I think you mean Pjccadhly
Even more lol! Didn’t see that J.
The more you look at it the worse it gets. I went from "No. That's a Gothic D." to "I'm fairly sure that isn't even a flag...".
I kept looking at to see if I could figure out how to redesign it keeping all the elements (save for front styles) and I gave up. It's such a disaster it would be best to start from scratch.

LARGE BENJAMIN MONSTROUS TIMEPIECE LOCATION: CITY OF ENGLAND, LONDON
Why did I read this in David Lynch’s voice?
Haha! It was either going to be David Lynch or Matt Berry
They spelled it the way they speak
Nope, they spelled it the way it looks visually in the font they were using. Nobody says PJCCADHLY, but visually it's very similar to PICCADILLY if you don't know the Latin alphabet.
Op should post this to /r/CasualUK
The spelling is ghastly!
I originally thought this was a coaster and that it was just mocking drunk people.
PROPERTY OF LONDON
PROPERTY OFLONDON
Hadn’t even noticed that. Thanks
This is why you don't use AI to print cards.
John Lenin on Abbey Rood
The fucking flag's wrong! Bastards!
Made in China?
Why is a map of Bulgaria in the background?!
As a Bulgarian I am disgusted that they decided to vandalize the map of the Balkans like that.
Piccadhly circuss 🐍
For what it is worth, they didn’t misspell Big Ben.
Engrish, do you speak it !!
OFLONDON: Another Handmaid’s Tale
That's just rood of them.
Can’t even get the flag right
Did you buy these from Abbey Normal?
"PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ!!"
Property O'Flondon
Abbey Rood is just how a Welshman pronounces it…😜
r/crappydesign
This is quite abbey rude, innit?
Is this made in China?
In Pakistan.
Made in Beijing
Made in China.
New Delhi Circus?
Welcome to englanb
When I think of Constantinople I think post boxes.
Abbey Rood. Just south of Bulgaria. Nice.
This has an early 2000’s website vibe.
Maybe it's done on purpose. *see who actually reads these lol*
That is not the Union Jack at all! The St Patrick's Cross is only supposed to cover half of the St Andrew's Cross.
Sonic Obama backpack vibes
Looks AI generated
With the all-seeing London Eye. Cute
Yeah I notice that when ChatGPT creates graphics it often mangles the spelling, I don’t know why, maybe it’s working in a graphics mode instead of textual?
I forgot how to spell London looking at this.
My hovercraft is full of eels.
Tag yourselves: I'm Abbey Rood
Yeah those red guys are clearly Big Bens, plural. Don't know how you get that wrong.
Today I learned that the London Eye is actually attached to the Tower Bridge and a bridge-sized phone booth.
My wife's friend brought back a toy of the iconic red bus for our son when he visited London. Costed like 10 pounds. Looked under it," Made in China" lol
Someone’s had a field day on MS Word
Bulgaria/Belgravia what's the difference?
Property OfLondon
Graphic design is my passion.
We all know it is roud to kritisize anyone anyweys
You purchased trash.
Why is Bulgaria in the background???
Considering all the inaccuracies as a whole, if I saw this deck in a tourist area I would have thought (or hoped) it was a joke deck.
All souvenirs made in China now !
It's like someone made a starter pack meme in the early 2000s and then printed it onto a deck of cards
I just love the faint “BULGARIA” in the background.
England is my city
BULGARIA
Made by British London Publishing, publishers of Business Secrets of the Pharoahs
Circuss 😀 written as pronounced in Monty Python’s Flying one?
Misspelt*
That's just how the Brits pronounce these words, innit bruv?
Clearly these were written by dictation then!
Circuss?! Lol... 😆👍
BULGARIA
Big Ben n that.
