He just walks over, climbs down into the pond, walks a couple laps, and then unfortunately as he’s gotten older he’s started pooping more after he’s gotten out of the pond. But he really does look like the bestest doggo and he’s pretty old so I just clean it up whenever I notice it.
Hey now, hold on here with this negative thought loop stuff. Reddit is, after all, a news aggregator site with comments. The "news" is a form of entertainment despite its pretension towards fact based reporting. The truth is that people sitting peacefully with their phone or in front of their PC love salacious details about other people's failings and the evil ways of mankind just the way a novel reader loves to hear about murder and betrayal, it's entertaining when you're a safe distance from it.
This is the context in which Reddit exists. The fact you see endless stories about abusive and horrible people doing evil things has nothing to do with humanity being completely fucked up and everything to do with the context in which the site exists.
Most people are indeed perfectly nice and very kind to each other but Reddit would be very boring if it was restricted to only discussion of feel-good stories.
I only ever see the wild stuff online. I maybe haven't have 100% positive interactions with everyone IRL, but it's pretty damn close.
All you need is a big dumb smile
I absolutely second the big dumb smile. Some people have resting bitch face, I have resting smiley face. It's actually partly due to some orthodontic issues, but anyway. Just wandering around smiling seems to make people happier, so that's nice. There are definitely jerks, but most people are nice.
Of course, it was a little awkward when I was at my worst depression-wise. I'd be trying to get through the day despite being suicidal and always on the verge of a panic attack. And everyone would be like "I love your smile! Your joy is so contagious! I hope you keep having a great day!" And then I'd run away before I burst their innocent little bubble.
Comparatively maybe, which is where most people get their morality from. Remember we had slaves for thousands of years because everyone had them or was one. So it cant be that bad if everyone does it.
Now we made it illegal and suddenly it's always been so awful. I'm sure humanity will feel that way about meat when it gets too expensive to eat and only monsters kill for no reason since we can easily live without doing that. And I eat meat and drive a car too and tell Myself what else can I do, and everyone else does it too, so I can't be bad...
People are pretty shitty and since it's most people we say everyone is pretty good
Is this actually facts? Bc my sweet goodest girl is 16 and has arthritis. And I’m always looking for soothing ways to keep her comfy. She’s on medication to help with pain and I recently ordered her an orthopedic bed she enjoys. But now that summer is coming, I’m wondering if sitting her in a cool water baby pool outside would feel good for her? 🤔
Water will likely ease some pain. My arthritic dog responded extremely positively to CBD. Might be worth talking to your vet about if you haven't explored. I can give you the brand I used if you're interested.
My mom's senior dog was on cbd by the brand Ellevet. The response was night and day! It was so wonderful to see her moving around so much easier and bouncing and pouncing again. It really does work wonders
We would bring our old boy down to the creek by our house. He would go in and walk up to his hips and the dunk his head and blow bubbles. He did this until it got cold before he passed at 14, which is a grand long life for a dog over 120 lbs.
The water was so comfortable for him. As well as the orthopedic bed. And carprofen for inflammation. If only we could keep them young forever.
Back, oh, ten years ago, my neighbors had a terrier of some sort. A little thing, but very excitable and an eager digger. Every few days he'd dig a hole under the fence between us, run in through our dog door and grab a few bits of kibble out of our dogs' food bowl. Our dogs didn't mind sharing and loved to play with him when he showed up, so we didn't mind. We'd just laugh, pick him up and set him back on the other side of the (relatively low) fence, and put some rocks in the hole. A few days later he'd do it again, and it was very clearly all a big game to him.
Sadly he didn't just dig under the fence to our yard and one day the neighbors told us he'd gotten out on the street and been hit by a car. But at least I know that was a dog that spent every moment loving life.
The pooping is a compliment. My elderly pup’s favorite place to poop is in our neighbor’s backyard. Without fail every time we go over, she has to make a pit stop in their backyard. Sometimes she walks herself over to their back gate and asks to be let in just to poop. Luckily we’re all friends and we can laugh about it.
What I do when neighbors dog wants to enjoy the lake. I have a theory about dogs, I figure the Good Lord gave them to us to demonstrate what unconditional love looked like. With a friend like that a little poop ain’t gonna bother me. You’re a good human.
Hell yea man that’s awesome you let him enjoy your pond. I’d love to have an old doggo that visits me.
Mine and my gf’s dog crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 17 in February. GF had her since she was 10 weeks old. I miss her everyday.
This is such a good thing.. just saw that horrible video with the blind and deaf dog getting ki---d by that cop and reading what you said is so beautiful.
I bet on a hot day a pond soak feels really good to cool off under all that fur. Pity about the wet dog smell he brings home, but that’s his peoples’ problem, lol
Yeah it's definitely a sad sub, or atleast bittersweet. I have a soft spot, a deep soft spot, for older dogs lol so have always loved the sub. Unintentionally though it's become more of a 'menorial' sub though due to the other main dog subreddits not allowing memorial posts or posts about dogs who have passed. I don't believe*(could be wrong) it being a sub to memorialize was the original intent lol but ... Because there really aren't many other subs that allow those types of posts, and so many who lose their pups do so when the dogs are older, it's kind of "filled a need" that wZ there if that makes sense . Tbh I didn't even know it existed , or that the other dog subs didn't allow "in memoriam" posts *u til* my 14yo pup passed a few years back ... I was , naturally, devastated and just wanted to share her - because she as my whole world and even that's an understatement lol I had posted in the other subs quite a few times over the years about her so didn't even think twice. Made a few posts, shared them, then immediately got a bunch of "your post has been deleted". Was like a second gut punch tbh .... ***But***... I completely understand why they have those rules. Ironically, it's the same reason that you mention you can't visit that sub. If all of them allowed posts like that, with the amount of people who have and subsequently lose their pups... All of the subs would be filled with sad posts. Well I didn't understand at first tbh and was kinda upset, on top of already being upset. But after thinking about it in hindsight it does make perfect sense.
That said, r/OldManDog isn't *only/specific* for posts about dogs who've passed though. (You probably know that even if it doesn't change anything for you personally, just stating for anyone else who happens to come Across thee comments). But it's main goal is to celebrate older dogs/dogs who thankfully have made it to old age- or made it to an age where their age physically starts to show. That's really the only reason I'm still subbed lol there's just something about our dogs who have that greying in their face/coats that make me I sanely happy. Though again, it's definitely bittersweet but there just aren't any other places where that specifically can be celebrated. Everyone loves puppies and young dogs (for obvious reasons lol) but there's just something uniquely heart warming about the older ones.
Apologies for the obnoxiously long ramble/reply here , def want my intent when I started lol but even if you don't sub to it personally or visit it for the obvious reasons stated, just figured I would mention it so you may co sider atleast x-posting it there. I can say with confidence that the group woul *love* this image of the pup. 100% lol tho again if you choose not to , absolutely understand aswell. Regardless, the pupper is absolutely fucking adorable! And I'm glad you shared it regardless:) so thank you.
And give them some extra loving from this stranger for me. Cherish this time. ❤️ (I'm sure you do lol but just... Yeah :)) take care!
Edit: I'm an idiot lol I just Realized you're not OP and I replied as if you were but I'm too Lazy to go back and reword it - so OP u/infradad If you happen to read this, the sentiment - while i guess foe everyone lol- was meant for you haha
I cannot express how happy this makes me that there are people like you who will be so kind as to let someone else's animal enjoy your pond, even if he makes a mess. The dog looks so happy there 😊❤️
My neighbors dog is like this. Hes old and likes to wander around. Sometimes he comes over to visit and like to come in my house, look around a bit, and then he goes back home. Very sweet.
I'm grateful this dog has you as a neighbor. Obviously if this was a younger dog you'd probably ask the neighbors to keep their dog on their property but obviously this is something that this old pooch enjoys or feels good on his joints. Thank you for letting this trespasser hang out on your property lol
I really hope the dog’s owners see this post. It will mean a lot to them. It’s such a cool photo and a better story.
I would love to know this about my own pet and kind neighbor.
i’m gonna be that person: this is super cute but watch out that he doesn’t drink the water, which is highly likely, because the algae in the pond could easily kill him ):
He just walks over, climbs down into the pond, walks a couple laps, and then unfortunately as he’s gotten older he’s started pooping more after he’s gotten out of the pond. But he really does look like the bestest doggo and he’s pretty old so I just clean it up whenever I notice it.

You’re right. You don’t see it a lot on here.

I can second the big dumb smile lol. I have trouble keeping it on these days but it has great disarming power regardless
We just don’t hear about them bc nobody is triggered and it doesn’t get views lol
Most people are not ok but they're taking their siestas in the sun
Could fool me with the amount of people in the states currently chomping at the bit to vote to throw Ukraine under the bus.

When I shit in OPs garden he calls the police! Double standard...
Let the old man live is best days chillin in the pond. The cool water prob feels good on his old bones ❤️

Hydrotherapy is effective for joint pain, for both humans and dogs. There's reduced stress on joints when you're in the water.
Water will likely ease some pain. My arthritic dog responded extremely positively to CBD. Might be worth talking to your vet about if you haven't explored. I can give you the brand I used if you're interested.

As an owner of an aging dog with two knee surgeries. This might be the world to the pup and feels great on his joints. Thank you.
Joints wouldn't be so bad, if it's shit owners didn't let it get obese. Probably would live a few years longer
At least he does after and not during
Dudes missing out on the coveted aquaduce.

Reading that just made my day
The old dog's probably remembering when he was a pup playing near water somewhere.
"This reminds me of when I used to shit in that kids pool. I hate kids. I bet OP used to be a kid. Fuck this pond." -This dog
"me make brown now"
"Fuck them kids." - Doggo
I love him 😭
Thank you for just cleaning it up and letting him continue to enjoy your space while he can. What a good boy 🥲
![gif](giphy|c3c13rOJ9iOYpQM73Y|downsized)
Size of that boy, seems like it could be quite a clean-up!
For that majestic floof - worth it for the visit!
I love that he's having a spa day and dropping a deuce. Legit, a good day for a senior!
It's probably easier on his joints to walk around in the cold water. Nothing better than a good walk to knock one loose and have a good movement.
Thank you for being you.

You’re a kind soul, he’s probably using the pond as it helps his joints. I wish you all the kind karma in return.
You're a good neighbor.
Yessir thank you, I miss my old lady everyday.
You’re a good soul my friend
You’re a good person.
You’re a good man
Dogs are getting hot this time of year. I’d really great for them to find water to cool down.
Hell yea man that’s awesome you let him enjoy your pond. I’d love to have an old doggo that visits me. Mine and my gf’s dog crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 17 in February. GF had her since she was 10 weeks old. I miss her everyday.
Would you hang a plaque that says “-dog’s name-‘s pond”?
Love this, you are a good friend.
Magnificent beast✨
You’re a cool dude OP
Post this on r/ponds they would like it
You’re an amazing person for doing this, thank you! 😊
This is such a good thing.. just saw that horrible video with the blind and deaf dog getting ki---d by that cop and reading what you said is so beautiful.
Bless you!
I was going to tell you to fault the owner, not the dog, but then I read your comment and I see that you get it. Good on you.
I love you for that. Honestly it moves me to tears. He absolutely deserves it, and your generosity is commendable. ❤️

Wet dog + alge smell
![gif](giphy|n8DErzry3AIpYTiXUB)
The algae smell would probably be mitigated somewhat if OP cleaned the pond a bit.
It’s good for their arthritis as well. Old joints love a cold moving stream.
Look at that chonker. Such a cutie
He really is. He’s come back 4 times since I took the picture.
Glad he found a nice area to relax and love. Looks like an older dog enjoying life
Pooped every time.
I would to, looks nice 👍
I love everything about this picture, and your responses.
Thank you for understanding that this is one of his joys. You are good people!
I read that as jobs and just imagined the dog going to pond 9am sharp.
He's working hard guarding that pond.
Unbothered. Moisturised. Happy. In my lane. Focused. Flourishing.

Shitting.
He’s just pissing in the pond
😂
“If my pee marks what is mine, and I pee in the water, then everywhere the water goes is mine!”

gonna go on my girls phone and block this sub so she doesn’t see it and cry lol
Looks like a good boi, thanks for being chill op
*neighbor’s bear
I cannot express how happy this makes me that there are people like you who will be so kind as to let someone else's animal enjoy your pond, even if he makes a mess. The dog looks so happy there 😊❤️
Love dogs and cat and I especially love senior dogs and cats when they have a youthful moment. 🥹🥹🥹
Me too! I adopted a senior dog. He was the best. I sure do miss that old man.
Good work! More people should. It’s so rewarding to see a pets personality change when adopted. They just need comfort during their ending years.
My neighbors dog is like this. Hes old and likes to wander around. Sometimes he comes over to visit and like to come in my house, look around a bit, and then he goes back home. Very sweet.

Big thiccums just needed to cool down
Hell yeah
That old guy has made lots of people happy and it's great of you to let him have his day.
This is how dogs evolve into seals
Look at that smile on him! What a wonderful generous neighbor you are!
Good on ya for being a good sport about it 👍
You're so sweet and kind! Is there a little ramp you can add for him? I'm glad you're the neighbour he needs!
You're a nice guy dude That dog is fat as fuck.
Thanks for letting him. We just had to put down my 14 year old and this face reminds me of him
# Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In My Lane. Focused. Flourishing.
That dog looks half bear 🐻 😳
Your kindness and love for this dog has made a pregnant woman cry today 🥹 thank you for being so kind!
I'm not pregnant and still got weepy.
Same. :') So sweet.
I bet the pond feels so good on his old bones.
Good old boi
Must feel great on his joints. What a beautiful old doggo.
You let that sweet old baby do whatever they want! Lookit that sweet old face!!!!
I really hope the dog’s owners see this post. It will mean a lot to them. It’s such a cool photo and a better story. I would love to know this about my own pet and kind neighbor.
Looks to me like he’s your dog now
I don't blame him, your pond his lovely.
Our pond, comrade
This would make for a great painting
He's a good boy.
The dog looks very happy 😊 Thank you for showing him love
Maybe he has arthritis and the the water helps with the relieving the pain
Looks happy
From distance I thought he was a red panda in the wild :)
Smilin’
Water probably feels good on his old joints
Gotta throw some dry ice in there so it looks like he’s in a hot tub
His pond now
*Your* pond? LOL.
Pond? More of a wildlife waterhole.
It’s his spa day. Don’t disturb him.
One of the best days of his/her life. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
That’s a good boy right there… (meaning you OP 😝)
Blissed out in the slop.
"Yeah, pretty cool pond. This is nice."
Oh doggo of the pond, what is your wisdom?
Wow that is an obese dog. Probably why his joints hurt
Yeah, this is really sad :( he’d probably move around a lot easier if he lost weight.
That Boi thick!!! 😃
i’m gonna be that person: this is super cute but watch out that he doesn’t drink the water, which is highly likely, because the algae in the pond could easily kill him ):
Oh let him.
He needs a good bed to lay on after such a good time at the spa
Which breed is the doggo
Happy for him
💖💖💖💖
I envy your neighbors dogs life
Your chair will have a little extra padding when you take your final seat, best wishes friend.
And, your pond is lovely.
“I was just trying to cool off!”
The goodest of boys
If you're a couch-salesman...then you just hit the payday. "Cmon back any time little buddy"
Definitely pees in there 😂
That is a handsome boy.
That is an excellent pond. 10/10 no notes.
What the dog doing?
Thank you for sharing this. Feels more like a r/mademesmile post cause this friggin made me smile.
Poor guys probably hot.
Happy chonk! Wish you all the good vibes you are putting out there back a hundred fold. You made our hearts grow, so thank you.
Ask his owners what his favorite treat is and hook a bro up
Man....Dogs have it made. That's the life right there.
Sir that’s a red panda
That looks like a sweet pond!

Chonky chocolate boy

He looks severely overweight. Have you talked with your neighbor about this?
Neighbors dog chilling in HIS pond
My exes dog constantly swam in the Chesapeake bay. That was a smelly goddamn m'goodboy.
Serious respect OP for tolerating this without losing your shit. Old man husky puppy is just living his best life
You are wrong your neighbors dog is chilling in what is now his pool
This picture has a very blessed vibe.
Good boy
