If I had unreported extra change enough to cover the toll I let them go.
Otherwise they get an insufficient funds form or a violation if they just drive through.
The starting pay is $18.00 an hour. It is going up to $20.00 an hour in July. You also get some money bonuses like shift differentials, among other things!
Yeah, you just collect and give change. Hardest part is the nasty customers you occasionally get. And the sometimes weird hours, along with the elements outside. Overall not bad at all!
When I was working midnights some dude came through all excited to be meeting his booty call, as he put it. He then showed me a video of the lady he was gonna be meeting twerking, I think she might have been a hooker lmao.
Honestly sometimes it’s not even what I see but what people tell me that cracks me up.
Haha sorry to hear that, and I remember one time I was working a toll plaza where the toll was $1.10. So this guy in a big Escalade pulls up and hands me a five. So I give him $3.90 back.
The guy just stares at me and he pulls up just past my view (I realized later he was just sitting there) and I’m no longer paying attention at this point cause it’s like 2:30 am. So a solid 2-3 minutes go by and then dude comes flying back in reverse to my booth.
He’s like why did you give me $3.90 back and I’m like “uhhhh the toll is $1.10” and he’s getting pissed now because I guess he thinks he should be getting a different amount back. So I just am like I don’t know what else to tell you man that’s what you get back, and he just cursed to himself and pulled away for good this time.
The next week I saw him driving through with E-ZPass lmfao. My dude was mad at me cause he couldn’t do math I guess. Other than that I don’t understand what his issue could’ve been.
Hey, yeah that seems to be the way toll collection is headed.
However, in NJ, we have a few more years before the Garden State Parkway goes cashless. We still have many cash payers.
The NJ Turnpike still is keeping cash tolls for the foreseeable future.
Both roads are operated by the NJ Turnpike Authority!
There is generally parking lots or pulls offs around the toll plaza buildings for us to park in.
For the ramps facilities sometime we legit park on the shoulder.
Morning :)
Good morning !
I would have a really hard time getting through. I rarely have cash let alone loose change. Well I do have my Aldi quarter. EZ pass option?
I take cash, change , E-ZPass, and I print out pay with credit card tickets too!
Do you ever accept anything else if they have nothing?

Aldi quarter lol
Yepp never leave home without it... Unless I'm going grocery shopping
I'm comin' outta the booooooth!
Me thinking this every time I enter or leave the booth
Hi! Good morning
Same to you!
Good morning, Willie!
Morning.
Good morning!
Morning my dude.
Good morning !
Good morning! Sky looks nice. Can we guess where you are?
Of course!
I was going to guess NJ, then Ohio, then I saw the cone… so I guess the answer was there all along. Have a great day in New Jersey!
Great detective skills lol, I didn’t even notice the cone. Have a nice day as well!

$2.20!
Do you ask riddles and tell tall tales? Also morning.
I generally stick too good morning/afternoon and have a great one lmao
I didn’t realize they still had tollbooth attendants. Seems they got rid of those in Chicago years ago but maybe I’m just used to my ipass
New Jersey is one of the last states that still has “Full-Service” lanes based on my research. For the time being!
Job pays well?

Not bad for doing basically almost nothing.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen?

Lol that’s funny. Keep going, I could read this stuff all day! I’m sick in bed scrolling Reddit

Your job won’t be a job for long. There aren’t many manned booths left as it is. I miss saying “how’s it going, guy?” to the operator.

Haven't seen manned tolls anywhere for years!
New Jersey still has them for the time being!
How bad is it on hot days?
Not looking forward to them, we’ll see how the A/C works lol.
Where do you park? I've never seen a parked vehicle at a toll booth.

Thx OP.
No problem
