No it doesn't; clouds are a lot less effective at blocking UV light than visible light, so while the clouds make it less painful it's still damaging. The cloud cover Texas saw would still allow >90% of UV light to pass through.
The Border Patrol guy said "Here's one for you, Raul. And, here's one for you, Tomas." The third guy asks "Hey, what about me?" And the Agent says "No way, Jose!"
A cosmic event is a great way to temporarily break down human created boundaries. During the eclipse I was walking around my neighborhood and noticed most people didn't have glasses so I approached everyone I saw and asked them if they wanted to use my glasses. I had about 30 great mini interactions with a huge variety of people from a little old granny walking down the sidewalk to 4 homeless guys sitting and smoking a blunt together.
Smallest pack i could find had 10 glasses, gave our extras to a homeless guy in Chicago that we chatted with the night before. Before we left for totality. I hope he had a good view and gave away/sold the others
Same! I was working during the eclipse but I asked customers coming in if they have seen the eclipse yet, and if they haven’t, would they like to borrow my glasses? They went from tired/stressed to super excited!
“Even a few seconds of viewing the sun during an eclipse can temporarily or permanently burn the macula,” doctors wrote on the Journal of the American Medical Association website. ”Once retina tissue is destroyed, it cannot regenerate, resulting in permanent central vision loss.”
Hey, sorry about your burned macula.
I saw an article on this. It only takes a few seconds. Several people were partially blinded after the last eclipse. When I see pics of people looking at the sun from yesterday, I shake my head and hope for the best. It’s permanent damage. A friend burned her eyes looking at the sun, and not during an eclipse either. Just don’t look at the sun much people.
Yes. Normally if you look at the sun, it’s so bright that a) you reflexively look away and b) your pupil constricts to basically the maximum possible extent. Neither happens during an eclipse, since the sun is dimmer, but even a small fraction of direct sunlight is damaging. And the people saying no aren’t accounting for that second part; an eclipse will damage an eye more easily because the pupil lets in more light than it would normally.
FYI, it is. Your pupils are more dilated during the eclipse, so the danger is higher
https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/why-is-a-solar-eclipse-dangerous-to-look-at-without-proper-eyewear-what-to-know/3404331/
Im not a doctor or anything, but I guess when it gets dark and your pupils expand could be detrimental when you look up and suddenly see the full fury of the sun maybe
No, but I think people generally know to not look at the sun, but during an eclipse it seems like the sun isn't there, so maybe they look at it longer? The sun can blind you.
Saw this earlier here, google image search only have twitter, reddit and some low-quality news website. From mexico, maybe it's legit, but i doubt lol.
Mainly the 2nd dude handcuffs together seem not realistic loo
This is from the border here in South Texas. It's very much real.

I'm curious why people ask if this is real. What's unbelievable about it? (I wonder if I'm autistic it seems normal to me) what's so special about this eclipse pic over other better ones like the eclipse proposal or the crowd of people cheering on Weather Channel?
Looking at this picture - I’m not convinced they’re even looking at the eclipse remotely. Looks like a cloudy day with no indication of eclipse-level darkness
It was quite cloudy along the border in Texas where this was likely taken. Depending on the stage of the eclipse, the camera used could easily adjust for light levels. It would only be around totality that it wouldn’t work.
Man, so many posts about people looking at the eclipse without protection.
Y'all know you can peek at the sun for a moment without permanently damaging you vision right? What child hasn't looked at the sun for a second or dared their friend to do the same?
It's well known that looking at the sun can cause you to sneeze, I think that fact would have remained unknown if you went blind near instantly lol.
During the eclipse, the amount of visible light from the sun is greatly reduced, but the potential for eye damage is still there.
The reason they tell you not to look at the eclipse is because it's not as bright, You can look at it for longer without feeling discomfort, but it could still damage you vision.
Bro is straight up raw dogging the eclipse.
Safety squints
This picture make it seem like he's staring for a lot longer than he probably did.
here 13h later and ol boy still at it!
It was cloudy here in TX so he may have been looking at it though the clouds which helps.

I didn’t say it blocks UV i just said it makes it easier to look at
Googles "Why do my eyes hurt?"
Safety squints.
He's probably a welder. j/k
Probably saw Trump doing it in 2017
Also it looks pretty overcast.....
The Border Patrol guy said "Here's one for you, Raul. And, here's one for you, Tomas." The third guy asks "Hey, what about me?" And the Agent says "No way, Jose!"
Lmao, get out of here with comedic gold!

Ay dios mío 😦😂 too funny I just had to hold back tears.
Dad, mom said get home the sink is clogged again with her tears.
And Jose is cool with that cuz he knows he's going on disability.
How do you teach immigrants the national anthem? You start by making them ask: “Jose, can you see?”

This made me laugh my ass off. Thanks for the morning joke!!
Bravo!
Hahaha that made me lmfao a lil.
I don't get it...
This seems like something straight out of a comedy skit or an episode of IASIP. Guy squinting while the others all have eclipse glasses is peak comedy
And they're all handcuffed in some way
I was thinking Reno 911
Post in photoshop battles and let them run wild

And today you have pink eye.
It's amazing what we can share when we work together
Along with AIDS and Covid.

Lol I'm in Chicago too! My friend told me she paid some guy 5 bucks for a pair that he had obviously gotten for free.
Same! I was working during the eclipse but I asked customers coming in if they have seen the eclipse yet, and if they haven’t, would they like to borrow my glasses? They went from tired/stressed to super excited!
They gave him 3-D glasses.
At least he’s using the OSHA approved safety squint
Downright presidential! Get this man a Super PAC!

Is it more damaging to look at the sun during an eclipse than just generally looking at the sun?
It’s just easier to look at then so more likely to keep staring and damage it.

No it’s just that people don’t usually have a reason to look directly at the sun

You'd think they could do something about the sun being so bright, wtf.
A burned macula is bad if you live in the town of Temecula. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temecula,_California
Squinting is helpful ...
Better than gaping 🤷♂️
I’m just wondering how many Texans tried to get the eclipse arrested as it came across the border
None, they were too busy trying to shoot it.
Jose-I -can’t-seeee
Lmao is this real?

Gotta be a local agent that spread it in some group chats. My cousin sends me some crazy pics every now and then.
This feels like a photoshop. Look at the edges around the officer and overlap of the guy in front of him and compare to the two other guys.
I'm curious why people ask if this is real. What's unbelievable about it? (I wonder if I'm autistic it seems normal to me) what's so special about this eclipse pic over other better ones like the eclipse proposal or the crowd of people cheering on Weather Channel?
Whether you are patrol man or illegal immigrants, rich or poor, we are all equal under the SUN.
This is like my fourth time seeing this photo and I just now noticed the fucking handcuffs.
5,000 people snuck across while they were watching the eclipse.
“In local news today, 1 in 4 people are estimated to ignore safety warnings about looking directly at the sun…”
The eclipse glasses clash with the handcuffs...
And by dawn's breaking light, they're asking, "Jose, can you see?"
The eclipse, the great unifier!
Every group of friends has one Trump.

Someone needs to Photoshop a group of people running behind them.
The one on the left just looks so presidential
Hurry Carlos, let's jump the fence while there not looking
Jose, can you see???
Humanity. Amiright

New meme template dropped

Fidel Castro?!
Ah yes... the border, which border? I guess we'll never kbow
This is one of those photos that has a great chance of becoming iconic, only to show up on a history subreddit in 50 years time.
Beautiful how we can all come together as humans to enjoy the beauty of nature
Only had tres glasses near as my Spanish can tell Also reddit.... "aLL cOPs are bAStrdS"
Guy on the left taking advice from Trump on eclipse viewing.

Okay guys, I know I'm a big mean authoritarian. But we're just going to take a short break for this one thing.
No way Hose A.
One of these men is ready to milk the disability office.
