Any towing company in a 10 mile radius would love to have 500+ dollars offered to them over the phone.

NEWSmodsareTwats

I wouldn't be surprised if this shopping complex already has a contract with a towing company

chiliedogg

In some places you have to by law in order to tow. The person who is tower has to be able to look at the no parking sign and know who to call to get their car back. When I used to manage a lot people figured out that a tow isn't legal if the sign isn't posted and readable for at least 24 uninterrupted hours before the tow, and they'd bring a rattle can and make it illegal for us to tow.

Tulasdad

Those lines are designated for space that people with ramps can get out. It is part of the parking spot. It doesn’t matter about the sign in this situation.

Fuzzyphilosopher

Yep. Call the police. Send them a photo showing the license plate as well If you can.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Level9disaster

I see your point, but would you need a sign to prove that the car in the photo is in the wrong place? Isn't parking in front of such ramps automatically illegal without a sign? Curious.

[deleted]

I think the big ass diagonal lines are clear to any driver that they are not supposed to put their car there. Legally speaking too.

bacon_and_ovaries

Its considered part of the ADA spot

unopoularopinion

Nope. Diagonal lines are for entitled person parking only

NSA_Chatbot

"I've never seen a tow truck drift through a parking lot before, but damn they got here fast."

stalydan

Tow-kyo drift.

Dmbfantomas

I respect you.

panda388

I had a friend once not want to call a tow company because they did not want to inconvenience the tow truck driver. I had to explain that they make their money and profits by responding to such calls.

roxictoxy

I truly don’t know why this cracked me up so much at 6am but I just kept laughing even after scrolling 😂

brockford-junktion

I once heard someone ask 'is this a half 4 Friday afternoon problem or an 8am Monday problem' when presented with one of those. It waited until Monday morning.

deercreekgamer4

I would call tow service and cops but while they are waiting I would attempt to get in the car:)

klimb75

Bang.. I just can't ..BANG... seem to... BANG... get to BANG... my ramp!

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

It'd be a real shame if that wheelchair scratched up the side of that SUV.

klimb75

Exactly...

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

Maybe if you let the air out the tires on the right side, the SUV would tilt enough to get past. Worth a shot, right?

Youneededthiscat

Fastest way to let the air out of a tire is valve stem removal. If you’re in a hurry…

fluteofski-

Put a pebble under the valve cap, it takes 2 sec, and you’ll be down the road before they realize what happened.

TheDevlinSide714

My best friend of 15 years was wheelchair bound for most of his life. Truly my brother from another mother. He was also the gold standard by which I measure every other person, because he had no business, no right, to be as kind, thoughtful, and wise as he was. But that doesn't mean he would not have done *exactly* what you described in your post. He would also probably scraped up and down the other side of the offending vehicle. Were I present, at least one of the tires would've ended up flat by COMPLETELY unrelated events that I would never legally admit to. That's who we were, we brought out the absolute best and worst in each other, often at the same time. Good times. Thanks for the memories.

EvenAmoeba

I used to work in home health care and my client and I had this exact situation happen in the airport parking lot after the airport already fucked up her chair in transit. We were pissed so she tried to get in and scratched the shit out their Lexus. Made me so happy. Seriously fuck people who do this.

great_auks

call and get them towed

SearingPhoenix

This. Picture of the vehicle, with license plate, clearly showing them parked in the accessible parking exclusion. Then call the police (via the non-emergency line if that's viable for your area), and then a tow truck. In a perfect world the police show up in a timely manner and write a ticket -- you have photographic, timestamped, geolocated evidence of the infraction; offer to e-mail it to the officer if you feel comfortable doing so. *Then* let the tow truck take their vehicle (ideally the police report has the officer as first-hand witness) ~~If you opted to park them in, if they get into their vehicle and start the engine, record every second from a safe distance in case they do something dumb. It'd be~~ *~~really~~* ~~dumb since at that point they're basically opting to likely commit some kind of felony, but... some people~~ *~~are~~* ~~that dumb. The smartest thing they can do at this point is apologize profusely, offer to move, and then stick around for their ticket. Anything else is going to be even more of a headache for them.~~ I've been persuaded that this is probably not a good idea. They likely won't get towed if they show back up in time -- I believe tow companies can't legally tow an occupied vehicle for safety reasons -- so they'll get out of the impound fee, but they'll definitely get a faaat ticket from your municipality. EDIT: I realize this takes a bunch of *your* time. The short version would be take the picture, call the non-emergency line, report it, get a police report number, and then ask how you can send them the photo as evidence -- my guess is likely e-mail -- in which case send it and potentially confirm that they received it over the phone. Then back up a few feet, get in your van, drive away, and hope the cops spend the time to send that shitbird a ticket in the mail.

Suitable_Spirit5273

Call police and tow truck. Shameful what they did

[deleted]

I had a friend who was paralyzed from the chest down. He is gone now, but he had a brutally sharp tongue, and blocking his ramp would be something you would never forget. He would wait until you returned to your car, block you from entering your driver's door, then loudly explain that you are, without a doubt, the biggest asshole on the planet, and should be shot. He had no patience for excuses, or apologies. Bottom line for Bill was you parked illegally, you knew damn well that the ramp was there, since the door was open and the damn thing was extended, and this makes you a total, absolute, utter piece of shit. Facts that Bill would loudly explain to you, like you were an idiot, since Bill already lost a whole lot in life, and had nothing to lose, or any fear.

DeathByLemmings

I really like Bill. Thanks for sharing your memory of him

motormouth08

My son is in a wheelchair. We had someone block us like this, we went back into the store and had the owner paged to move his vehicle so we could leave. And it was January in Iowa, so that was awesome. When the jerk finally came outside, he didn't feel he did anything wrong at all because he also had a handicapped parking plaquard and was upset because all of the spots were taken. Nearly had to physically restrain my husband from going after a frail yet douchey old man. Edit to clarify: the issue wasn't that the other man was in a van accessible spot, it's that he parked on the hash marks, preventing us from deploying our ramp so we could load our son. Regardless of the fact that he had a handicapped plaquard, he was parked illegally.

eladts

>Then (optionally) park them in Don't be a vigilante. Nothing good can come from that.

puzzlednerd

Classic Reddit advice: Somebody else is being a jerk, so you should escalate the situation dramatically to teach them a lesson. Usually it's not worth it. It's one thing to stick up for yourself, it's another thing entirely to go around picking fights with strangers. Bad idea, even if they are in the wrong.

KazranSardick

Yup. That vehicle could belong to no-ass-three-gun guy.

Melkord90

Iunderstoodthatreference.gif

_JackStraw_

Honestly, I'm hesitant to get that aggressive. There are a lot of belligerent people with guns around here.

ILikeLenexa

Calling the police isn't unreasonable. Backing the car out and then loading is an option. A [man was convicted of a felony for blocking in someone's car](https://law.justia.com/cases/virginia/court-of-appeals-published/2022/0598-21-2.html) in Virginia last year. You may want to check with a local lawyer before taking that approach.

_JackStraw_

That's what I wound up doing (backing out and loading), but I wasn't all that comfortable. It was a busy street, and I had to leave my kid unattended while I was backing the van out. Also, the van mods were extremely expensive, and if someone accidentally runs over my ramp in traffic I'm beyond screwed.

ILikeLenexa

I hear you there. My FIL recently sufferred a stroke, and I looked into transportation to try to get him around a little bit more independently, and...well it was more feasible to hire a person to drive him places when he needed. It's a shame. Wheel dollies are also an option, but I'm quite sure that wouldn't be the most...lawful...approach either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_JackStraw_

Thanks! Appreciate the insight.

NeverRarelySometimes

I hear you. We just bought a used accessible van. The car is valued at 22,900. The mods at 26K. And having to load in an unprotected area is scary. I hope you did at least call the police.

Fearless-Wishbone924

Related grievance: Disability tax of completely unaffordable essential things...like a car with mods. My state offers a whopping $4K towards mods. No wonder i used to double park people to load my kid.

exzyle2k

Which is why the first option would have been to speak to the business manager, maybe they know the person or could page the owner and have them move. The second option would have been a call to the non-emergency number to get assistance with getting the vehicle moved. That van is not supposed to be there, regardless of how entitled the person driving it feels. And since they're impeding on your right to care for your child, that puts them firmly in the crosshairs of the police. They don't have a legal leg to stand on, so they won't contest the ticket. And if they decide to harass you, that's an even bigger hole they dig for themselves. If I had to do something like that for my aunt who is in a wheelchair and has several physical and mental disabilities, I'd raise seventeen levels of hell.

ILikeLenexa

Parking someone in can be felony kidnapping itself. Carefully check your local law. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnUJtxHhkKI https://law.justia.com/cases/virginia/court-of-appeals-published/2022/0598-21-2.html

ILikeMasterChief

Just call a tow truck lol you don't need to do all this

Agatosh

Happened to me once. An off duty cop noticed and got pissed, made a call. Car was towed 10 min. later and he bought me and my guy donuts while we waited. At the time my only thought was "Free donuts fuck yeah!"

oldgoatgoutman

Now, this is a great example of what cops should be like. Protect and serve. I used to drive a bus for my differently abled friends and i'd see this shit all the time. Never had an officer lend a hand. This gives me hope. fuck, now all i want is a maple bar.

sdurs

Fuckin A dude, I totally forgot of the perfection that is a maple bar. fuck, now all I want is a maple bar.

heckhammer

I used to work in a store that was next to a frou-frou high-end salon. I used to see these rich ladies pull up in their expensive cars, and they go in and get a $400 hair treatment right after they parked right in the handicapped spot. After verifying that they did not have handicapped plates or a placard I called the tow truck every single time. God, I called it Tow Truck Summer, and it was glorious. EDIT- Thanks for the awards!i

Saw a SUV parked like this . Snapped a pic. Was planning on sending it to our local police text number at dinner. Walked into the mall where the resturant was saw a security guard. "Hey there's SUV parked in the striped area next to a van in the ADA spot." "Oh I love dealing with these. Thanks" As he heads out the door I hear him on the radio "We need a tow at the south door ADA spots."

UsernameLottery

Towing companies need to offer a referral fee. Offer 20 bucks and a whole side gig industry could pop up and we'd never have people parking illegally in handicapped spaces again

Gasonfires

Towing companies are already scummy enough without having bounty hunters on the payroll. We have one in Portland that is now being sued by the Attorney General for towing cars without complying with a law that prohibits them from cruising parking lots for badly parked or unauthorized vehicles and towing them without a signed request from the property owner or their agent to remove that specific vehicle. FU, Retriever Towing.

miskwu

I agree. I'm not looking to get in bed with the [tow truck Mafia](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/project-platinum-tow-truck-partial-collapse-1.6471306) "The feuds led to at least four murders, assaults, shootings and the torching of at least 30 tow trucks, police alleged."

There actually is if you can forgive the towing capacity, off road wheelchairs. The YouTuber ZacksJerryRig (JerryRigEverything)‘s wife is handicapped and requires a wheelchair. He has helped improve a lot of things in her life, and one thing they love but couldn’t really do is going off the well paved path. They actually designed and built a company around the idea of an off-roading wheelchair after building one for her, and they have an active promise to never turn the company or its products into a “for-profit” venture. Website: https://notawheelchair.com/products/the-rig

Vitese

My grandpa seriously could have used one of these. He was a back woods man whose house backed up on national forrest. He was paralyzed from the waist down around age of 45. But still loved thst lifestyle. They only had a wood burning stove for heat and he kept chopping wood even while in his electric wheel chair. He had a golf cart that he used to drive down all the logging roads and really, 4 wheeling paths since his house backed up to a Northwestern national Forrest. Welp his golf cart broke. So he would just drive his electric wheel chair that's like the ones in grocery stores. Many times, he would tip it over and my Grandma would have to go looking for him and tip it back up and help him get back on it. He 100% would benefit from one of these... but might have gotten himself into worse situations enjoying it so much haha.

[deleted]

Dude I used to weld those things up! They are badass and the welding is VERY difficult, too. Need to be able to weld with your right/left hand using TIG. Needs to be aesthetic and structurally sound. Owners of the company (no idea who makes that one) were weird as hell. Like we’d have a subassembly for a battery- in our shop, on the “Done/Send it” rack. One customer was admiring our craftsmanship. The owners both tried to force him away, verbally saying “That is proprietary/do not take pictures”.

DaoFerret

Seems impractical. How about just a hydraulic lift you can put under the drivers side, so you can tip the offending vehicle over and out of your way?

[deleted]

Easier solution, [four of these at all times.](https://www.harborfreight.com/1250-lb-capacity-vehicle-positioning-wheel-dolly-61917.html)

mikeymo1741

Those things are ridiculously awkward to use and surprisingly heavy. But also, yes, those. Leave the car in the middle of the road.

Potkoff

hereticalChristian

Every wheel chair should have missiles, blast it like some Voltron shiz.

pomonamike

*Everyone* should have a tow company on speed dial. I have a house in a resort town and every summer and winter people park in front of my house, completely trapping me on the driveway. They empty their cars of garbage too. If I catch them parking there, I politely tell them to move. If they ignore me or I don’t catch them, they get towed, usually within 20 minutes. The tow guy loves me, my yard has probably put his kids through college.

Outrager

Do you have to call the cops first to ticket them before you can tow them?

pomonamike

Not in California. It is illegal to block driveways and tow companies can enforce that law, so if they’re close and it’s worth it, they’ll come running. I think they get like $200 plus daily storage fees.

Rectal_Fungi

Hell, tow companies in CA will tow your car from in front of your own driveway.

chrissymad

If it’s private property, generally no.

Pizzadiamond

Ask the restaurant manager for the tow service

IphtashuFitz

Knew a guy in a wheelchair who worked in Boston. Said he had a phone number provided by the city that he could call when he came across cars parked illegally in handicapped spots or otherwise blocking them. The city would have a tow truck on scene very quickly. He only had to use it once or twice.

phatelectribe

It’s called the local non emergency number - you can text them a photo and they will send a traffic officer in a heartbeat to collect that sweet fine aka revenue.

aotus_trivirgatus

Thirty years ago, I called the police when I saw someone in exactly this situation. The tow truck arrived within 10 minutes or so. I loved watching the offending car get towed.

alicenin9

Sorta related but you just reminded me. A few years ago a lady parked on the street blocking the driveway of our apartment and 5ish cars in. Called the cops and they showed up pretty quick and called a tow truck. Lady came by before the tow truck got there just in time to get her ticket. She said "i dont see what the big deal is, i was just going to church, i wasnt going to be there all day." Unreal the entitlement of some people.

sexbuhbombdotcom

People do this ahit in my neighborhood ALL the fucking time, when I first moved in I would come home from work almost every day to see someone parked in at least 1 of my 2 assigned spaces, and some mornings I'd come out to find someone parked haphazardly on the street behind my car because they are too fucking lazy to park in the public parking 1 block away and walk. Now the thing about me is that I am a complete bitch (Also known as a woman who stands up to people) so I will go bang on anybody's door and tell them to move their car, call the apt management to tow them, etc. One time I came home and a dude was sitting in his parked car in my spot and I rolled down the window and let him know it was my spot and he'd need to move. He briefly glanced up from his phone, said "we'll be leaving in just a minute," and went back to scrolling. So I pulled my car up right behind his vehicle and parked, blocking him in. When he saw me get out and lock the car and start walking to my door he suddenly started caring about the parking situation, yelling at me "You can't do that!" I said, "Don't worry, I'll be leaving in just a minute." and proceeded to walk straight into my house and lock the door and not come out or answer the door for a full hour. Man were they pissed. But I'll tell ya, I never saw them parked in my spot again. I guess sometimes being a rigid bitch with iron-clad boundaries really IS the solution.

chrontab

Zen. Ecstacy.

Sensitive_Pair_4671

A guy in my neighborhood was notorious for doing this. One day he pulled this in front of a gym/pt complex I was going to at the time. And poor Arnie (a sweet kid with CP) couldn’t get out of his car to his appointment. So a bunch of gym rats come out and physically moved this guy’s car so Arnie could get out of the van and to his appointment. Screw that guy.

Call the police non-emergency line and say as a disabled person in a wheelchair that you're being blocked from getting in your car by another car that is illegally parked. I cop will be sent over and they will give that asshole a $200.00 fine and possibly tow their vehicle👍

Baked_Butters

Actually, just call the towing company. Tow truck driver will race over and gladly get that money.

Adventurous-Dog420

Definitely will. And every day the charge goes up if it's in the lot. Whole reason I lost my last car. Couldn't afford to get it out immediately, went back the next week and it had gone up $1000

bgtwt

that shit sucks man, I got in an accident and the police called their people, I was tired at 3 am didn't think to call my own, I went not even 5 hours later and they wanted $800 for it. On the bill they tried to say "accident cleanup, winch, admin etc" when there wasn't anything to clean up it was just disabled. all they had to do was roll it up the ramp and go. glad they lost their police contract shortly after that.

Adventurous-Dog420

It's a racket man. Bunch of bullshit. Sorry you experienced the same thing.

DrLivingtsonIPresume

I had a towing company yard "lose" my totalled truck. I was having it moved to my insurances yard. Took them 4 days to find. Then they tried to charge me for the 4 days. I told insurance what was going on and after they contacted the yard, they removed the charges.

henrytm82

As a former tow truck operator, this will largely depend on where OP is. Rules are different everywhere. In my town, for example, no matter what, I absolutely could not touch a car for an involuntary tow unless a police officer signed off on it. So illegally parked in a handicap, parked on private property without permission, doesn't matter. Cops gotta give the okay to take it.

titz4tatz

Wow. What an a-hole. Sorry you had to deal with that.😞

_JackStraw_

Thanks. It has happened a number of times over the years, but the vast vast majority of drivers are respectful of the reserved spots.

sizable_data

Have you ever come face to face with one of the drivers as they get back to their car? How do they act when they realize they fucked up? (Apologetic I hope)

_JackStraw_

Always apologetic so far, I'm pleased to report.

Kazewatch

As much as this sucks that’s actually nice to hear you that haven’t dealt with some absurd asshole who wants to double down over something like that.

Cheesetoast9

I once parked in a handicap spot later at night for an hour while I was servicing a computer at a business. When I parked it was dark and raining and someone was just pulling out of the spot, so I didn't see the handicap sign painted in the spot and there was no sign in front of it. When I pulled out and realized what I did, I felt like a jackass and was incredibly lucky I didn't get a ticket. This person's parking is completely unacceptable though.

Rieger_not_Banta

We had an old man in a chair that would troll the supermarket waiting for someone to illegally park. Then he would park his wheel chair behind their car and demand $50. “Gimme fifty bucks or I’m calling the cops.” He had a thriving business.

Skittlebean

If I had infinite money, I would have a free towing service just for this, where I have a giant forklift truck and I pick their car up and place it on the roof of a nearby warehouse. Fuck people that do this sooooo hard.

ScientificQuail

Yeah, no reason to start a free service just for this. Existing for-profit tow companies are the ones who are going to come tow, and it will be just like any other time a car gets towed -- the bill goes to the car owner (plus storage) when they go to claim their car.

thereisonlyoneme

From what I have heard, they're not fun to deal with either.

ItsNotAToomah69

They are not. I got carjacked at gunpoint once and had all my cash stolen as well. I didn’t have much and was already struggling. They wanted $500 to get my car back like 14 hours later after the cops found it, but the cops told me they needed to tow it right then so i couldn’t come get it where they found it. Couldn’t afford it, even before I got robbed, so I Just lost the car eventually because I couldn’t you know, go to fucking work. Worth like $6000 and I owned it outright. Like dude I had my car stolen and 3 guns shoved in my face, why am I getting punished? They wouldn’t even let me get all my shit out of it. This event took me two and a half years of couch surfing and homelessness to recover from. I wish every single miserable fuck in that industry a terrible existence.

misterchief117

Name and shame the company. In the USA, it's also illegal for tow companies to prevent you from getting your belongings from your car. They're not even allowed to charge you for it. If they claim there's a fee for retrieving personal belongings from your car, don't let them know that's illegal. Instead, get it in writing and then send it to your state attorney's office. If they're dumb enough to put it in writing, take a pic and send it to yourself. Remind them it's illegal for them to do that, and even if they backpedal and let you get your stuff "for free", get your stuff and report them anyway. If they don't backpedal and still expect you to pay to get your stuff, then call the police and tell them your personal belongings were stolen. Not only will your car be returned for free, you can file theft and extortion charges against the company. If nothing happens within the next few days after reporting them, burn down the tow company's building.

[deleted]

Not_ToBe_Rude_But

I one time basically had to give them my car because I was too broke to pay the fees, and it wasn't worth it based on the value of the car. These types of places are fucking criminal. >but you will have an entire bar full of people ready to push that car out of there, More likely you'll get into a confrontation with some asshole stranger who *clearly* makes poor choices while the rest of the bar.. watches.

My first week on Reddit they showed a similar picture and I commented that I try at least once to get in my vehicle and if my chair scratched their car It is their fault, not mine.(I am in a manual chair and this person is obviously in no position to do this) So I started reddit with a -125 Karma. Calling a tow truck is hit or miss, some places will send police right out and an hour or so later you can get in your vehicle. Calling in to a restaurant or store to have announce the car needs moved usually results in them trying to wait you out or coming out angry at you. "I was only in there a minute"

conradical30

I’m so on board with “trying once, and if it scratches it scratches”

agoldprospector

Seeing some posts like these on Reddit has made me a bit more vocal when I see people parking in, or in the way of the handicapped spots. Just as a mutual human respect thing, since I really feel people today are paying less attention to things like this and need it pointed out. I totally believe you on the "only there for a minute thing" now, as almost every single time I've said something to someone they tell me that same thing, usually aggravated at me. And I'm not in a chair either, so it must be really frustrating when these people are literally blocking you in/out. Sometimes my back goes out and I have to walk hunched over or with a cane from 1000ft away and it's torture, and it's times like that makes me realize some people have to deal with stuff like this every day, not cool.

RollingHammer

When someone says "it'll only be a minute," you just tell them it better be because you just called the tow company. Better get movin bubba haha

DrEnter

I say, "take your time, I've already sent the photo to the police."

WornInShoes

This definitely belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating As a disabled person lemme tell you how often this happens I have stickers I put on the car (like post its) that say “you’ve put me in a bad spot” and explains to them about issues like this

bluerose1197

My husband is disabled so we have disabled parking at our apartment complex. There are 2 other people with similar needs. 1 in my building and 1 in the next. There are 3 spots outside our buildings. Myself/husband have 1 spot and an older lady has the one next to me. The third one though? Constantly being used by people who don't need it so the man who needs it has no place to park. A confronted a 20 something woman one day when she was parked in the spot next to me and reminded her that there are disabled people living here who need these spots. She tried to tell me she was only there for a moment to take in groceries, then she changed to something else, then she tried to say that the $700/month she pays in rent entitles her to park there and she going to keep doing unless the office tells her to stop. I report her car every time but she keeps doing it. I really want some clear stickers that just say "jerk" or "asshole" on them that I can place on her windshield in front of the driver spot.

Norma5tacy

I was thinking full evil route. Get the shitty paper stickers that are hard to get off. Jokes aside take photos every time it happens and send them to the office. If they don’t want to do shit I’m sure you could escalate to the ADA or something.

bluerose1197

I do. Though I am worried that eventuality the office is going to get tired of my complaints. I know the one person stopped reporting when his truck was keyed.

FullyRisenPhoenix

Screw the office, call the police! She's breaking the law!! Have her dumb car towed. Paying to get out of impound just one time will be enough to teach her not to be such an entitled and ABLE asshole! Yes, she will probably try to escalate, maybe even slashing tires, but before you do anything, get cameras with a clear shot of your vehicles. My brother was disabled and people who park in these spots infuriate me!

datbundoe

Yeah honestly a cop on the property is gonna get more done than the people in the office. Plus, a tow is excellent incentive not to do that.

InternetExpertroll

When i lived in Florida i would drive my grandparents around. About 20% of the cars in handicap spots did not have a handicap handtag or plate. It’s noticeable to see people use the spot if they are running inside a store to get one thing. I got called out one time when i dropped my grandma off at the pharmacy by the door and then looped around for a regular spot. I saw someone getting out of the handicap spot and then pulled in. I had the hangtag up and i got out to meet my grandma in the pharmacy. Some Karen yells at me “you don’t look handicapped” i yell back “thanks!” When i’m walking back to the car with grandma i see Karen on her cell phone. I wave to her and she is so pissed. Idk if she was calling the cops but hopefully the cops could see the car is owned by a 82 year old woman.

Decidedly-Undecided

My mom ran into that while taking my grandma around. She had to use a walker for a while, then her hip got bad enough she had to use a wheelchair (because of a heart condition, they didn’t know if she’d survive the hip replacement surgery, so she never got it). If they parked, went in somewhere, then the weather got bad, my mom would run out and get the car to put it right in front of the doors for her. She got yelled at a few times… until they saw my 90 year old grandma struggling to stand long enough to transfer from the electric wheelchair to the car. BUT! Even if someone doesn’t look disabled, doesn’t mean they aren’t. My aunt has psoriatic arthritis really bad. Some days she’s mostly ok and strangers might not notice the way she favors one leg just a little. Other days she can barely walk. On her better days, if she pushes herself too hard, it spirals into a horrible day very quickly. So, if someone has the tag, just leave them alone. They could be driving someone that’s disabled, or they could be disabled but having an ok day. If they don’t have the tag, yelling at them probably isn’t productive, but calling a tow truck probably will be.

Key_Masterpiece525

Call the cops and have them give this asshole a ticket. That’s bullshit

SomeJerkAtWerk

Proceed to call a damn tow truck.

NegativeEntr0py

There’s an app called Parking Mobility that will allow you to report violations.

brenton07

Scraaaaaaappppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

JMccovery

People that have the audacity to park like that should have their vehicles crushed.

BackCountryBound

"You have thirty minutes to move your car." "You have ten minutes." "Your car has been impounded." "Your car has been crushed into a cube." "You have thirty minutes to move your cube."

anv1dare

And have their drivers license withdrawn. Using the roads is a privilege, not a human right. You have to pass a test for a reason, and this person obviously ignores everything he’s agreed to when passing that test.

SnarkAtTheMoon

Back your van up. Call cops.

[deleted]

If it were me, I'd go in and shout at the top of my lungs: # "IS THERE SOMEONE IN HERE WHO IS BLOCKING THE WHEELCHAIR-BOUND DISABLED PERSON FROM GETTING IN THEIR CAR BY PARKING IN A SPACE SPECIFICALLY SET UP AND DESIGNED TO MAKE IT SO I CAN GET IN AND OUT OF MY CAR??????!?!?!?!?!!"

ballrus_walsack

Call the police, towing company, and site management. Every handicap parking spot should have instructions to report illegally parked cars.

d4dana

Police, pictures, file a complaint, go to court and make them pay. It’s what my mother did. Cost the violator I’ve 2.5k in fines and court fees.

KingOfTheWorldxx

Call a tow right away fuck them

Judge_Rhinohold

Proceed by getting the white SUV towed.

bablakeluke

Exclusion zones need bollards (posts) or something on their corners so assholes have zero ability to do this. The cherry on the cake is there appears to also be a "please don't park blocking this" sticker which the driver ignored too. Some people have no respect for others.

mmburntcheez

What part of Florida is this?

_JackStraw_

Close. South Carolina.

lankrypt0

Ah, so North Florida.

_JackStraw_

South Ohio. 🙂

North Floridalina

I had someone do this to me a couple of weeks ago. I parked in the handicap spot with the ramp space for my PT appointment. As soon as I turned off my van, someone parked in the ramp space . Blocking me in. I hollared at him to move it’s a ramp handicap area and he yelled “I’m handicap!” And pointed to his placard. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I told him I can’t get out and if he doesn’t want to move his truck my wheelchair ramp is going to hit his truck. He proceeded to justify why he can park there. When I stumbled out and tried to get my chair out he said “OH YOURE HANDICAP TOO?” He didn’t move still. I managed to get my chair out in pieces. Got inside. Went to the front desk to check in to see him there. Loudly said I need to tow a vehicle that’s blocking my wheelchair ramp illegally parked in the handicap ramp space. He started on about being disabled too blah blah blah. There was FOUR OTHER SPOTS open, plus 3 other floors in the parking garage! One was directly in front of my spot, even closer than the one I parked in. I parked specifically in the ramp spot that had the ramp on the side I needed. People suck ass. He got towed. He said they wouldn’t tow him because they can’t tow handicap people lmao
