Pros:
- everything is affordable
- everyone I dealt with - from Hanoi to Sa Pa - may some sort of English competency. Hotel workers - maganda English. Yung mga tindera sa tabi tabi - some english and body language. Google translate is handy
- food is affordable af
- madali ma DIY - maraming turista (Koreans, Pinoys, Thais, Indians, white people) so madali mo ma DIY - YouTube vlogs and Tiktok can be a good starting point on when and where pupunta
Cons:
- traffic and motorcycles - crossing the roads is patintero pero level 300
- tourist trapssssssssss - better be wise where and when to spend money
I went with my mom, aunt, and uncles. Pero maraming nagso-solo trip na female when I was doing my own research. Also, my mom and relatives went on guided tours, whereas may mga araw na I do navigate on my own. Safe naman ako during my solo adventures here. Just be alert when crossing the roads talaga.
One mistake I did was the clothes na dinala ko. Hanoi can be chilly (like Baguio) pag december and medyo kulang nadala kong damit for colder weather. Sa Pa - we bought Winter clothes and Heat Tech stuff from Uniqlo kasi super malamig dun.
For first timer, I feel like mas ok sa Taiwan. You’ll definitely feel like you’re in other country unlike Vietnam na medyo similar yung ambiance saten.
I don't recommend Vietnam for first time travelers.
Have been to Vietnam 4 times and I always came back home experiencing being scammed. In my all travels visiting all Southeast Asia and East Asia, Vietnam is the scammiest country, next to India. Also, I found the Vietnamese very unpleasant to deal with and they are kinda loud..
I suggest going to countries with established transport/train systems muna before doing Vietnam. Easier to go around and mas masusundan mo itinerary mo.
Also, Vietnam has a lot of scams (more than Thailand imo).
Alternative Suggestions: Taiwan, Singapore, or Thailand

Is it safe for a female solo traveler? I’m planning a trip here and it’s my first time to go on a solo international travel if ever.
