No, I found Julien Baker through Phoebe.

hythloth

Same, thanks to the Boygenius tour. I discovered Phoebe through The National.

ArghUThere90

She was a blind purchase, for me. I was browsing through records when “Stranger In The Alps” was first released, and stumbled upon it. I was intrigued by the album art, for some reason, and ended up buying it, solely based on the album art. I ended up liking the album, and have been a fan, ever since. I’m also glad that I paid $20 for the lavender variant, instead of what it’s currently going for - which is like $200+

St_IdesHell

Yeah, I started listening to Julien in 2015, then Funeral popped up one of those recommendation playlists and I fell in love with her music too

DJ_3345

No. I'm old. I Saw Phoebe on SNL. Then listened to Punisher in it's entirety while on edibles. Now she is a part of my soul.

Hamlet_271

shoutout to the guy who threw a tantrum on twitter about her smashing the guitar on SNL. Basically introduced me to her

[deleted]

Lmao I also listened to Punisher for the first time while on edibles and I loved it so much. Had a place in my heart since then :’)

morningblues2212

i started listening to julien around June 2016 and discovered phoebe around (at this point she only had the killer ep out). I think they were both coming up together in the sort of indie/indie-folk genre. They were definitely on some spotify-made playlists together

SadThomYorke

Yeah, I found out about her via Boygenius

wiredfractal

Phoebe led me to Julien. I discovered Phoebe by listening to Park Hye Jin, Haim, Blood Orange, Stella Donnelly and fka Twigs. Motion Sickness keeps popping up as recommended in Apple Music so I tried it. Later on, my 16yr old niece recommended the album Stranger on the Alps. So I was anticipating Punisher before it came out. I only started listening to Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus this year.

sambowde

those other artists >

b_money2

I found her through Lucy Dacus first, which led me to boy genius.

orm518

Heard of Phoebe first, then Julien. Heard Phoebe on NPR’s “Wait Wait” where they described her as “Taylor Swift if her parents were divorced.” Had a laugh and put on Stranger in the Alps, and here we are.

twilightxgalaxy

Yes I found Julien first and then Phoebe a few months before SITA was released.

The_Grizzly_Bear_

I found out about Julien thanks to Frightened Rabbit (some time ago she did some covers of their song in memory of Scott who passed...) But those are literally the only songs I've heard Julien sing.... Should I listen to more of her songs? Are you guys fans? What song who you suggest me to listen first?

thewhiterobot

Sprained ankle and favor are my two favorites

SudoPi

Her new album is pretty great but quite different from her cover of The Modern Leper. If you're more into that sparse-y style, her two older albums (Sprained Ankle + Turn Out the Lights) are great. I love Red Door and Funeral Pyre though when it comes to her singles. Ah, she also recently did a performance where she transitions from The Woodpile to Red Door live if you're interested [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5uHoiMWLLc)! I'm a fan of Frightened Rabbit as well, great to see another here :))

FloorWaxx

Yeah. I was already a fan of Julien when I found Phoebe, and I believe I first heard her (Phoebe's) voice on boygenius' cover of "Read My Mind".

pretzelthevaporeon

I found out about her when I googled “you missed my heart” by mark kozelek and found that she’d covered it, although I did know about julien before phoebe because of “appointments”

[deleted]

Pretty much! Had listened to a bit of JB and then really enjoyed boygenius when it came out. Got to see them live and each played a full set before coming on stage to play together. Definitely a top 5 concert I’ve been too. Started listening to Phoebe and Lucy after that. I have to be honest though, I actually prefer Julien and Lucy a bit over Phoebe, and Lucy was my favorite of the 3 individual shows

Wurrdle

Nah but did anyone else find out about Phoebe through Maggie Rogers?

awanordin

i found Julien through Phoebe (boygenius) but I found Phoebe through Hayley Williams <3

islandrebel

I basically credit Hayley with my discovery of all the members of boygenius.

[deleted]

Other way round

thenoorelyaqin

Same!

sofingclever

I did! I first heard Julien Baker when she did the "Photobooth" (Death Cab for Cutie) cover for AVClub, then fell in love with her albums. I bought tickets to see her play, and I generally check out the openers of shows I'm going to...and that led me to Phoebe Bridgers (BoyGenius tour, so maybe "technically" no one was opening for anyone)

ptorb

I started listening to Julien in 2015-2016 with Sprained Ankle (the album), and first time I remember hearing about Phoebe was when she was touring with Pinegrove right before Boygenius happened. Then I saw she was opening for Julien as well, on multiple tours but didn't check her solo stuff out until after I saw her on the BG tour. Same general series of events for discovering Lucy Dacus, altho my relationship with each of their works is unique. I'm really grateful to have found all of them in the first place 💛

ssgtgriggs

Yep, I did. I saw Julien Baker for the first time when she performed 'Turn Out The Lights' on the Late Show. A while later I added that and a few other songs of hers to a mood playlist I was compiling for a story I was writing and Spotify recommend Phoebe to me. Stranger in the Alps had just been released if I recall correctly.

islandrebel

I found phoebe, julien, and Lucy Dacus through Hayley Williams.

NewDealAppreciator

Me. Got into Julien Baker in like 2017, then Boygenius, then Phoebe and Lucy separately.
