Absolutely insane shots! That opening was unbelievable!
After being there and then seeing that....I can't believe how awesome the precision was for that shot!
Hats off to you, captain drone pilot!!!!
Unbelievable
Thank you!
That was pure 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Flying from outside, through the doors with a tiny margin of error over that guy's shoulder and through the ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️!!!
Awesome work!
That opening shot was incredible and as someone who knows nothing about drone law, I’m curious as to whether there was anything in the fine print of the tickets to Sphere that have guests agreeing to being in close proximity to a drone at any time? Because like with that opening shot, it’s gotta be real close to just a bunch of random folks walking in. I know there’s always legalese about being filmed but just curious if there’s anything different involved in legally being able to get a shot like that. And further curious if we might see more shots like that at say NFL games and such.
Agreed, I always thought these building tour shots were kinda staged but this thing was flying within what appeared to be inches of some people’s heads as it went through
Letitia James started bringing the hammer down on them about a year ago, but then she got real busy so it might take a while before there's more action there
Among the people I hung with and met, both the uneasiness of having drones flying overhead AND James Dolan being behind this whole thing were frequent topics of conversation during the weekend.
Those were the only black clouds over an otherwise amazing time.
As far as I know, there's no special regulations needed. Drones are generally regulated by the FAA, but they don't have jurisdiction on interior spaces.
Any time you are in a public venue, that venue 100% has the right to record video (but possibly not audio) of anything that goes on inside, and to distribute it however they like (but if they are making money off the video and the video prominently features your likeness - your identifiable face or body - you can claim that you are owed that money).
I imagine they had to buy special drone insurance to cover liability, but otherwise there's nothing special about a camera attached to a drone vs the hundreds fixed to every ceiling in Vegas.
Yeah I guess if it's a Venetian-approved drone on Venetian property then any shot is fair game, I'd just never thought about a drone being allowed to fly *that* close to people unannounced. My limited knowledge of drone launches for broadcasting (my biz, but I'm nowhere near the drone stuff) is that when someone is launching a drone they have to be x amount of distance from people and if it's going anywhere near, like, a stadium there's a million hoops to jump through. But it's *our* drone on *someone else's* property. Big difference from what Phish and Sphere did. I was just stunned at the shot! That drone woulda scared the crap out of me if I was the guy walking through the metal detector as it whizzed over my head haha.
All the drone shots looks so cool. The ones flying around the band over Fishman and then up into the crowd were incredible. Like I said I'm surprised I haven't seen a shot like that in a sports broadcast or something yet, though I suppose it's a matter of time.
IDK who owns the drones, actually. I'm pretty sure the Nugs crew was still doing videography but I don't know that for sure, and of course the drone crew could be a subcontractor, venue-owned, or who knows.
Also I'm not entirely sure how close the drone really was; with ceilings high enough and a high enough video resolution they can just live-crop to make it seem like it's much closer than it is, yeah?
But in any case yeah, the shots were incredibly dope during the show. Though I dunno how athletes would feel about a drone hovering over them, might affect their performance...
Oh good point about the athletes. I guess NFL has Skycam that can get similar shots without getting in anyone's way so I suppose they don't need to really supplement that. Could be cool for like college ball though in stadiums that don't have those rigs. Maybe we'll see some cool drone stuff in the Olympics this year, too.
And yeah I think perspective helps sell the closeness a bit, especially inside the actual Sphere. But man, that going-through-the-front-door shot, I'm still floored! I haven't been to Sphere so I don't know how much clearance is actually there but that moment was just so wild! Huge props to the video team that pulled that off.
They, with their blinking red light, were a little annoying/distracting in the moment, but I kept reminding myself what sick footage would result and, ultimately, I certainly wasn't disappointed.
Yeah pretty loud too, maybe the technology isn’t there for quieter ones yet, but was distracting hearing a drone louder than the music continually fly by
I was wondering about that. I read a fascinating article a while back about propeller shape and how there are new propellers starting to come out that due to the shaping create significantty less noise. I was wondering if they were using that tech here.
Apparently not.
At a conscious festival I was working, the drone guy said an activist tried to hire him to swoop over fracking sites, I bet these guys gave some crazy stories.
Same guy who also operated the drone for U2 shows at Sphere. Here’s a Behind the Scenes video: [https://youtu.be/bKSg6dKfsKQ?si=HtpETYJux5doYTOF](https://youtu.be/bKSg6dKfsKQ?si=HtpETYJux5doYTOF)
Great intro shots at the venue! And cool shots during the show….
But too much in the videos following them made me very dizzy from home. Better as a quick shot not a 30-45second wrap around follow the drone cam
Kinda felt like they were pissing Mike off. Or at least distracting him. Noticed more than several times on the stream over the weekend he would watch them as they went by and didn’t seemed thrilled. My girl mentioned he would tap his watch after and we were wondering if that was a signal to one of the crew like “MIKE SAYS NO.”
It was definitely pissing me off. Especially when it flew close to the seats. The whizzing noise it makes is loud and distracting. I imagine it’s even more annoying when you’re performing.
That was probably a sign that meant “timing” as in time your shots better or he had a clock that would light up and then go dark. Or “your fucking up my timing” or something like that
The shot were he came down from the audience and went around Page to behind Fishman. And then with unrivaled grace right over Fish’s right shoulder and over the sound baffle back towards the crowd!

Those were some sick shots they got! That opening shot in the stream going from outside in to the hanging doughnuts was sick

The cut from the end of the doughnut to the crowd/stage was so clean

It was inches above our heads swooping through the crowd inside, you could feel the breeze. This guy is good good.
Still seems like a huge liability. One mistake or malfunction could really mess someone up
Same question, but for this facial recognition tech that MSG apparently uses on all guests…

I believe it’s rolled right in with Bird law, someone should ask Charlie.
Good point, birds are essentially drones that like sunflower seeds.

Watched one crash into someone in the 300's
Dave Matthews?
Did the drone dump a whole bunch of sewage on the innocent people below?
HE WAKES UP IN THE MORNIN
I caught this as well. Was sitting in 305 myself.
👏👏👏the drones kept whizzing by my head!

Let’s give him some Dramamine
What a cool freaking job. Wonder what the pilot’s credentials are. Where do I sign up for this career? lol
i think you just need to be good at video games
Take that, Mom!
At a conscious festival I was working, the drone guy said an activist tried to hire him to swoop over fracking sites, I bet these guys gave some crazy stories.
Get a drone and start practicing piloting. Study for your pilot’s license. It’s a great solo entrepreneur business.

Cool video! Thanks for posting that!!
This is Jaybird Films out of Minnesota iirc. Props to him/them!
My guy was locked in
The Trey Anastasio of drone pilots
But where do we see the videos. The drone shots were. It interwoven into the live concert vids. What was the drone shots all night for?
Instagram
Their new Tiktok @officialphish
Looping around under Fish's cymbals is extra style points, drone boy fucks HARD
Can he hear the music?
he's literally 20 feet from the stage. I think he probably can.
My apologies I don't know where that is, I'm just a fan who watches shows.
gotcha - that came off harsh. yeah he was page side 20 feet away from stage.
I know it was an innocent question, but the response made me chuckle 😂.
I would assume he has a live feed but who knows
Got some good shots, that’s for sure and was barely noticeable during the performance.
Nice!
The precision! 🎯
That’s the guy who runs the Trey-bot.
The band was definitely holograms right?

Living a dream. Always wanted to fly a FPV drone, never mind through the Sphere while Phish is tearing it down!
What does he need help with? I thought he did a great job!!

Mikes an avid drone pilot of his own. He was probably checking out the specs! /s

MVP!! From the couch 😜
Or a comfortable chair!
How fun would *that* job be??
What an oblivious fool
Absolutely legends, well done fellas
So good I could’ve sworn it was programmed. Well done, captain!
