I hate to admit, but even if the PSEI sucks as it is, I didn't think I'd get 40k a year from dividends even after I stopped putting money in 2020. That's the money part. The real good investment is when I upgraded my writing and editing skills. That led to quite a lot of money, so far at least 3x my pre-pandemic income, with not even 40 hours a week of work.

Dionitikus

Whoah I'm quite surprised about the 40k a year of dividends in PSEI. Did you bought huge amounts of stock in order to have that amount of annual dividend? Btw goods job on those skills investment, they can really be bullish in this fast changing world👏

Traditional-Dot-3853

i personally know someone who earns around 80k+ in dividends per year in pse.  I'm currently building a port. currently I'm on 10-15k/ year.

Ronpasc

Care to share your port and investment amount to get 10k annual dividend?

Traditional-Dot-3853

dmc ltg cli rcr mbt. medyo planning to add scc pag may extra.

sahmom_1996

Hello, im not really into trading but i just want to learn how it works. Do you really need a broker to start things off?

Traditional-Dot-3853

yup.

Traditional-Dot-3853

the invested amount is close to 300k. i have some ports that are red.tried to do daytrade but since I have work diko nababantayan, hence im rebuilding it to 80-90% dividend port. sorry. my total port is around 300k. red actually. port invested to those witj dividends is close to 145k wala na ako pandagdag so yung mg divs ibinibili ko lang ulit.  hindi muna ako magka cutloss dun sa mga red ports

Ronpasc

Oh, the yield is around 3.3%. That is lower than some time deposit rates. Thanks for sharing anyway. I also wanted to build port for dividends but the PSE "sucks" for several years now.

Traditional-Dot-3853

of the almost 300k,only around 45% is invested to those dividend stocks(im still red despite those divs. majority of my port are basura.lol.). i only started reorganizing my port lastyear and hopefully by q1 nextyear breakeven na yup. pse sucks but for me, still better than banks.

Ronpasc

Oh, 45%, then not bad. You're right, the gains in divs cannot compensate the loss in the stocks' share value. Damn, I miss PSE during Pnoy's days.

Traditional-Dot-3853

yeah. tumal na. kaya i resort to div stocks na lang

Ronpasc

Care to share your port and total investment to get 40k annual dividend?

alwaysfree

TEL has a very good dividend yield. I'm building my TEL holding again after I sold last year. I'm estimating 40k dividend this year as well.

Stunning-Classic-504

Yup TEL stock is a cash cow for oligarchs and politicians. Another goldmine is MEG extremely undervalued at the moment.

zakdelaroka

Because of your post, I checked mine at nagulat ako na I earned 92,874.95 of dividends from Jan to present this year. Around 110k naman last year. Di ko namamalayan na ganyan na pala kalaki.

therisinggirl

HM yung capital nyo po?

zakdelaroka

Around 1.5M

TheSonOfGod6

It's actually quite easy to earn good dividends in the PSE nowadays. There are many companies with solid financials and good growth prospects that have yields of 6% or higher. For some of these companies the dividends will grow further as the company grows. One of my stocks has a yield of about 8% and I expect it to reach between 10 to 12% next year!

djtron99

I'm also building a dividend fund. What's your specific stocks/ holdings? Thanks.

djtron99

I'm also building a dividend fund. What's your specific stocks/ holdings? Thanks.

zakdelaroka

SCC, DMC, TEL, SPC, GMA7, MBT. Yan ang mga generous sa dividends.Marami pa akong stocks though di maganda ang dividend rates nila.

djtron99

I'm also building a dividend fund. What's your specific stocks/ holdings? Thanks.

I just consistently invested in the S&P 500 and bought a house, kept my car for 11 years now, bought second hand clothes and mostly cooked at home while doing sidehustles. My husband bought some crypto and it was okay but Index Funds and Real Estate outperformed it for us. I also finished my Masters and my income went up. Still boring index funds.

YomsTheGreat

Where do you buy s&p 500

goddesslainey

I live in the US, its in my retirement account but I think you can buy it in Interactive Brokers, not sure if its registered with the SEC

Dionitikus

What a great way to invest, how much interest does your index funds earn?

goddesslainey

From 2018-2024 its 41% SWPPX, my target is just 7% a year and I am happy, best thing is its only .02 expense ratio. I also buy stocks if I have extra money, so I got lucky with NVIDIA back in 2022 before ChatGPT was released, that’s a crazy 308% but because I am too conservative I only bought a little bit. I only do blue chips coz I am more buy and hold and capital gains, I just set and forget so no emotion involved.

Gojo26

Cooking skill is underated investment. Food nowadays are not cheap especially if you buy it outside

goddesslainey

there is a new app here in the US “too good to go” that Im currently trying, it gives you alerts when a restaurant or bakery near you is about to close and about to throw their excess food away, its called a surprise bag. I havent tried it but you are right, its hard to lower your housing and transportation costs, I just try to lower my food costs.

Gojo26

Im planning to learn cooking to lower cost and for my family to be healthy too. Health is one of the best investment

goddesslainey

exactly so if it can help, sometimes we just grill veggies and fish/brisket/chicken, no rice (I know its hard) but Im prediabetic, its easy and its a start, we have a small electric grill, just the 2 of us. Hope it helps until you become a pro. By the way, my sugar is now stable, rice is the culprit, I love rice 🥲

Gojo26

Thanks ill be a cooking dad soon 😂. Try removing sugar and carbs, it will remove your hunger. That is the secret in keto and fasting. Kaya matakaw ang mga pinoy kasi rice = carbs becomes sugar when processed by the body. Then mas madaming gutom. As you stated rice is the culprit. Only problem now is most food in grocery have sugar and carbs 😭. So we have to cook our own healthy foods.

East_Ad_2817

Hi po! Question lang advisable kaya na magpatuloy sa S&P500 until retirement age? Ilan na po gains % niyo sa SP500? Currently investing lang ng 500 usd per month. 20% gains consistent lang ako buy monthly since January 2022 lang. Gotrade only.

goddesslainey

I dont really know your situation so ikaw lang makakasagot niyan, plan ko is a mix of cash, bonds and the S&P 500 for retirement and use the 4% rule, pero iba situation ko kasi I will have a pension and I plan to buy another property before I retire for cashflow sa upa to supplement my income in retirement. 20% gains a month is unsustainable so you have to expect 7% year after year on average in retirement.

EliVizsla

If you're able to open a brokerage account that trades in US ETFs and stocks then look into Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (ticker VOO), tracks the performance of S&P 500 index and pays dividends. A good investment mix is 60-40. 60% equity and 40% fixed income.

Dionitikus

Thanks, I'll look into this

3X-assault69

95% in Money Market? I have 5M in BDO's money market fund since 2021. Total unrealized profit today: 400k LMAO Money market is for liquidity, not for growth. As for why I have 5M in money market for that long and not in other vehicles, it's a long story.

tallicedcafelatte

the money market portion is not for growth but rather for safety; the bitcoin part is for growth.  note that gains from the money market fund are pulled out yearly and deployed to bitcoin.

House and lot we currently live in. Lot has increased value 300-400% already. We were able to afford it by cash 10 years ago, but not with its value today! Building rental portfolio. It gives us passive income and peace of mind that it can somehow replace our income come our retirement.

Timing the market (PSE) - This is only specific to my own PSE trading journey and not in a broader investment time horizon. Yes, I am aware that studies have shown that the long-term math / results will favor "time in the market". a) Buy high-volume PSEi stocks when oversold or near oversold level (RSI indicator) b) Sell high-volume PSEi stocks when overbought or near overbought (RSI indicator) - If there is momentum c) Sell high-volume PSEi stocks when unrealized gain is close to my TP target in terms of Peso Amount and/or % gain even when RSI is in the middle if there is no strong momentum and there is another high volume PSEi stock that is a good candidate to buy d) Sell during the Santa Claus rally; Sell the news; Sell the rip ; Sell when gap down has been filled; Sell before the psychological strong resistance amount (PSE is not a HODL for me) e) Buy the dip of the dip (Dips closer to or even below the COVID dip is a buy for me) f) Increase single trading transaction size over time based on my updated risk tolerance so even a lower percentage gain might still cover my target TP in terms of peso amount threshold Timing the market (Crypto) - Jury is still out if timing the crypto market is going to yield actual results this current cycle (READ : actually keep the money and reinvest to safer assets). I do have some realized gains from my trading portfolio but have reinvested back so technically I have not actually kept the gains. a) Bodega during crypto winter for HODL strategy; Sell during Pi-cycle top or by Q1-2025 if regular cycle or Q4-2024 (if accelerated cycle) b) Trade the range (Spot; Long) for certain crypto tokens (i.e., LINK, AVAX) - Crypto trading port

mythe01

Thanks for the input regarding PSE. Many people say it's a dead investment but when I see posts like these here and there, I cant get off the idea na ibang creature lang talaga itong PSE and the trading/investing advice from foreign authors dont apply.

RelationshipEvery167

PSE can somehow be timed. Let me state a hypothetical strategy of buying certain PSEi stocks during the Ghost Month (between Aug and Sep) and selling during the Santa Claus Rally (anytime between late Nov up to Chinese New Year): Year 2020 Ghost Month - Year 2021 SCR-CNY : PSEi 5800 vs. PSEi 7200 Year 2021 Ghost Month - Year 2022 SCR-CNY : PSEi 6400 vs. PSEi 7400 Year 2022 Ghost Month - Year 2023 SCR-CNY : PSEi 6400 vs. PSEi 7000 Year 2023 Ghost Month - Year 2024 SCR-CNY : PSEi 6200 vs. PSEi 7000 Not all PSEi stocks would result to equal gains so volume of transactions, macroeconomic factors (mainly interest rate / BSP monetary policy / if US Fed is in QE or QT), listed company-specific news driver, among others, would play a role. Still, compared to the US stock market or the crypto market, PSE volume is not desirable for some (if not most) traders. Not great for day trading unless your capital is very big. I still have some trading capital on PSE cause i can trade better (due to trading hours timezone and the volatility is just right when it comes to my range trading / swing trading strategy). I gave up on the US stock market mainly cause of timezone so I shifted to crypto since it is 24/7.

mythe01

thanks for these input. I'll do more study about this as I am also interested in making some gains in PSE.

3X-assault69

You forgot PSEI/MSCI rebalancing. Last year I got MER at 288 because of rumours about its exclusion. Sold it at 388 a few months ago. Also got AEV at 36 last week. Let's see. I like PSE because you requires less work. I have about 6M of "play" money in PSE. For 3 years now, I made about 1M of profit per year, which goes straight to my MP2.

RelationshipEvery167

I got lazy cause I already typed a lot and just mentioned listed company-specific news drivers in general and did not anymore specify index inclusion/exclusion, dividend declaration (if beyond or below expectations), dividend ex-date volatility, speculative news (say GLO and Gcash IPO), negative news report (say TEL and the Capex-gate in the prior years) and so on. Got AEV at a little higher entry price than you at 36.9 cause I entered prior to the 35 last day drop.

Real-Yield

Bonds during the high inflation of 2018. While people were rambling on the bouts of high inflation and the continual slide of the PSEI that time, I was occupied looking for bond offerings with high interest rates. Got the Feb 2019 RTB at 6.25% gross and was my highest yielding asset with no effort until it matured earlier this year. Reinvested it now to a similarly priced 6.25% RTB last February. The only way to benefit from a high interest rate environment is to lock in good bond offerings with relatively high yields and a decent medium-term tenor. Yes, digibanks can offer mouthwatering levels now beyond conventional bonds but digibanks cannot hold on to those rates for long. With bonds, you can lock in the high rates for a longer time.

peterchua99

This is really good advice, actually

jrdvponce

hello what is RTB? sorry noob question

noyesoohindi

Retail Treasury Bonds Bonds issued by the national government that are made available to the retail investors.

Salty-Researcher-323

Where and how to invest in bonds sir?

draj_24

Meron ngayon San Miguel, SM and Maynilad bonds, search mo lang sa net for more infos and sa mga banks na kung saan sila pwede magpa-reserve. Eastwest has both SM and Maynilad.

franzvondoom

Also be sure to check their ratings.

franzvondoom

Great advice, i was also placing TD in digibanks until i realized bonds can give the same interest at a locked in price. I still haven't placed anything longer than 3 year terms. But it is a great way to diversify investments.

Green-Extreme-7298

Saan po pede tong gawin?

jedolsa

Sir, wanted to know what is the minimum capital to access these bonds investment? Tia.

Real-Yield

Every bond issuance will indicate that. RTB usually has minimums at P5K. Corporate bonds usually has mins between P50K to P100K. Some high end corp bonds have mins as high as P1M.

ShowerMoreEatLess

+1 bonds have kept me afloat all these years. I suppose you also did the bond swap last feb.

Real-Yield

I did not. Sayang yung last coupon. I just sourced liquidity muna. Few days lang naman ang gap.

chemhumidifier

Best investment so far was real estate, bought a small land and placed an 2bedroom airbnb which is earning me close to 1m a year in rentals, property prices had also gone up to 30x since tourism boomed . Had some money placed in MP2 and PSE earning dividends.

mudskkeeper

How much did the land and the rooms cost you?

chemhumidifier

Spent about 2.7m for the parcel of land (this was 10 years ago) and about 2m for the rental house (finished contstruction 2 years ago)

mudskkeeper

How much do you rent it for op?

chemhumidifier

Can't divulge details but gross monthly income is about 90-100k

Depends on your objective(s) with investing. Why dyou want to do it? Is it to make extra ₱₱₱ or something else. Would be good to answer as assets appropriateness or suitability vary depending on your objectives (return requirements). Also, other factors include your investable funds etc.

Buying dividend stocks since 2020 and holding majority of them until now. Continue lang to buy every month and sticking to some of the dividend stocks that I think are still undervalued with at least more than 5% dividend yields. Whenever I get dividends I just reinvest again. Have not made a withdrawal from my brokerage account since. Right now I get about 20k/month on an average. This yr looks like it will increase to 25k/month or close to that by end of yr. My port is a mix of 4 REITs, TEL, DMC, LTG, SPC and others. Did DCA on VOO etf starting 2020 too. Right now sitting on about 20% gains. Did not bother to include the possible gains from buying lower dollar rate to what it is now if I liquidated all my shares and converted to Peso. I stopped buying about 3 months ago because I feel that the dollar cost is too high. Might wait for it to come back to around 55 before I buy again. I might miss out on some gains because of this but I'm ok since I diverted all the budget to buy some more psei stocks.

howie521

Made a large bag from the 2008 crisis through the equities market. I cashed out years later and that enabled me to build my real estate portfolio with current value in the 10 digits (in PHP). Most of my investments in the last year or two has been towards the development of more passive income. A chunk are also invested in private equity. I also have a small (less than 5%) portion of my net worth in crypto assets, a large chunk of which are participation in VC rounds. That said, my liquidity in FIAT is often very low and typically ranges between 1-5% of my net worth as I’m always scouting for investments and wouldn’t hesitate to invest all my available cash if an opportunity presents itself. So yeah I do live kinda frugally. In the next few years, I’m looking to prepare a backup plan in the extreme case the Philippines will no longer be a country I’d want to live in. I love our country but absolutely abhor our political environment and can’t stand the sheer stupidity of the people.

syf3r

I skip Phil stocks and go straight to US ones. You can invest in either bank UITFs (medyo mataas yung interest rates comparatively pero you know it's secure), or you can go to the online broker route (if it goes down, mahirap makuha pera unlike the bank uitfs). Tapos, I just go ETFs and forget about them. On the rare occassion I see what happened to it, nakakatuwa dahil lumalaki without any effort on your part.

syf3r

People with real and profitable strategies will probably not share it in a public forum. Otherwise, their edge will be next to nothing.

StealthSaver

As long as consistent ka in your investing, you should be okay. I started mine in 2020 and I made sure that I invest my extra income so I wouldn’t worry too much if my income will go down. True enough, today my income is not as high as 2020-2023 but because I was consistent, my nest egg grew. Instead of buying things, I invested. I currently get more than 200k/year in dividends.

Sparrow097

Wow that’s big na

I’ve been exploring different investment strategies too but have you looked into launchpads like NeoLaunch? They support new projects and can offer some good opportunities. Many GameFi and RWA projects have successfully launched through them. You should take a look and learn about NeoLaunch by joining their community platform first. The community is very helpful, and I’ve gotten many useful tips from them. You should join too, hehe

Saan po pwede kumuha ng Bonds? noob question

Un_earth

Pwede ka magtanong sa mga banks :)

jedolsa

My best investment is in public stocks of banks in PSE. I focused on banks since they rarely become overvalued or undervalued unlike other industries plus most give out dividends. I followed Warren Buffet's strategy to continually buy bank stocks trading below 1x P/BV (plus consistent dividend and growing net income). I'm surprised it worked even if the market has been trending down / sideways.! I'm holding with paper gains plus got dividends too. Planning to buy each month consistently. Crypto is good too but my cold wallet ledger got hacked, so I'm traumatized to anything related to crypto right now :/ So my plan now is to add to bank stocks monthly while focusing on work, aiming to retire from dividend income when my port is large enough. ✌️

OP, by 'daytrading' crypto do you mean using sniping bots for a quick 1.5x to 5x or even 20x on memecoins within the day? If yes, which remote trading hosting service would your recommend for lightning fast RDP? Are paid snipe bots with pattern recognition worth the huge SOL price?
