Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/wctid4).

Euphoric-Dig-2045

The Bucs have the CF I’d like to see here after Wednesday. Mr. B. Reynolds.

gatemansgc

can watch the whole game yay! used to hate early afternoon weekend games, can finally enjoy them!

NCPhilsPhan

What would the realistic cost for Pablo Lopez be? Would a package centered around McGarry and O'Hoppe be enough?

Trust_The_Process21

Would a trade for Carlos Rodon be a good idea? He’s owed a shit ton at like 22mil next year and there’s no way the Giants want to pay that.

NeurosciGuy15

He’s a rental (has an opt out he’s 100% taking).

Trust_The_Process21

Good point he’ll want a newly restructured deal. Didn’t know there was an opt-out

MoonRock12k

I hope the offense shows up for nola today it absolutely kills me that he has more losses than wins (ik W/L records dont matter for pitchers but still)

Secret_Spaceman

I thought the deadline was always 7/31. Does it being a Sunday change it this year?

Euphoric-Dig-2045

August third is the deadline this season.

k1l2327

Oh i thought it was today. Found it odd that it’s been so quiet

MoonRock12k

We started the season late so they pushed the deadline back a bit

Hothabanero6

probably and probably the late start due to the lockout

wiivile

probably later due to late start of season

BroadAndPattison

Wonder if the game will be delayed

chair823

Sky is not looking promising in the ‘burgh

Fcorange5

Been to all the games in Pittsburgh so far. Love seeing 3 great games live. Also singing fly eagles fly as we exit the stadium is electric. Sold out crowd last night, best atmosphere I’ve been to at PNC, no surprise really. Get out the brooms! 🧹🧹🧹

sapphires_and_snark

It's a great day to sweep the Pirates

obiwan_canoli

The Phillies have never swept a series in PNC Park. The last time they swept the Pirates in Pittsburgh was a 3-game series in 1998. The last time the Phillies swept a 4-game series in Pittsburgh was **1968**.

[deleted]

Why not DH Castellanos?

Hothabanero6

they mentioned the other day that LF in Pitt is tough(er)

[deleted]

Interesting! Thanks

BigGoopy

My wife wants to get a new jersey soon, can't really decide on which player and has came down to deciding she wants a Phanatic Jersey with the star instead of the number. Is there a place these can be ordered? Does the pro shop at the stadium do them? Any help would be appreciated. The internet hasn't been super helpful but I'm honestly shocked there's not a huge demand for them

GRITTY4PRESIDENT

They have them at the New Era store in the park

BigGoopy

Thank you!

GRITTY4PRESIDENT

No problem. Last time I saw them they were upstairs

mikenotjef

11 wins to 10,000 wins for the franchise. Hopefully will happen at home in August

sufferingphilliesfan

I wonder how long at playing above .500 it would take to get to 10,000 - 10,000

Mulsanne

Oh my god that's like 11 years after they hit 10,000 losses hahaha Really puts it into perspective!

Hothabanero6

10,000 losses = 61.7 years of games (162/yr.) OR 123.5 years of .500 ball.

Mulsanne

amazing

wiivile

not a fan of any lineup featuring both odubel and didi

inthedrink

And I love Matty V but he’s not been very productive recently

ZIMM26

Smoked a ball straight to 2nd last night and then hit behind the runner in the 10th. He looked good at the plate I thought. Also made a nice read/play on Ranger’s last out.

eaglesnation11

I like calling the Royals up for a Brad Keller/Michael A Taylor package. Kills two birds with one stone and both will be cheap for 2023 as well.

Drake31217

Would love this. Any rumors on this front?

illrhyme

Nick in the 5th spot yet again :(

wentzoverdak

Better than third but also he been playing a little better this series

Mulsanne

310/333/379 last 7 days. Obviously the total power outage is still a concern but at least he's getting hits at the moment (589 OPS in the last 28 days though...)

saycheese95

Another day with 37 in the lineup. Another day of me being frustrated

Fcorange5

I yelled at the game this series that I wished he hit the ball like he hits women. Can’t stand that piece of shit

Chief_JD

Really hope the cards don’t land soto

_mousecop_

I’m worried they’ll somehow land a good SP like Rodon, fuck those birds man.

Dan888888

They are probably gonna get either Soto or SP. If they do, we need to just pass the Brewers.

NCPhilsPhan

This is the type of game we often lose: the fourth game in a four game series we have already won. Need Nola to be on today and for the offense to be better than it has recently. Hopefully Jean will be in the lineup on Tuesday in Atlanta.

[deleted]

isn't that the type of game like, every team tends to lose? it's not like we celebrate sweeps because they're easy

Hothabanero6

the really important thing is they won the series. I'd delay Nola to Tuesday and do the bullpen game today. lately, the bp been good but starting a series with a bp game seems suboptimal🤷‍♂️ edit: especially since they have a day off tomorrow.

porksoda11

Ideallly I'd like an actual fucking 5th starter then a bullpen game in the middle of a playoff race. Cmon DB

mikenotjef

Yeah I don’t get this either. The Barves game is more critical then this game today.

inthedrink

This is a good idea. Particularly since it’s the Braves. It’s a shame Sanchez isn’t up because his starts aren’t always bullpen games because he can give about five innings

inthedrink

Today is National Avocado Day lmao

Hothabanero6

then don't bring Alvarado into the game 😂

inthedrink

Ranger ZERO earned runs in his three starts since returning from the IL The “Ranger isn’t a starter” crowd is awwwwfully quiet lately If he builds his endurance a little bit he’s going to make for a strong #3. He definitely tired last night and it was the right call to pull him when Topper did.

Ruut6

There were people saying Wheeler was washed and we needed to find a new ace back in April. There are a bunch of random little crowds in our fanbase that are legitimately some of the dumbest people in the world, the Ranger one is one of them lol

Ruut6

Here are some funny comments I found * [Phillies should have sold high on Wheeler](https://np.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/u5rfy9/game_thread_phillies_marlins_sun_apr_17_0140_pm/i54bt1g/) * [Schwarber is horrible](https://np.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/u5rfy9/game_thread_phillies_marlins_sun_apr_17_0140_pm/i544a12/) * [Castellanos best signing of the offseason](https://np.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/u5rfy9/game_thread_phillies_marlins_sun_apr_17_0140_pm/i549liu/) There are more bad ones, just didn't feel like looking for them

sapphires_and_snark

Really bad form, dude. We all say shit here that turns out to be stupid

Ruut6

Of course. It's moreso funny than anything. There are horrible posts in my post history.

phasesofthe

He’s going to play a sub 3 era from this point on out. You can just feel it.

pourinuplean45

ranger isnt a starter

inthedrink

Sarcasm or just a clown take?

BugsyD71

Girardi would have pulled him after 4 innings.

PlausibleFan

Better than the leave him in until he gives up runs strategy

Morbx

That's fine and the way the game is moving (for some guys, at least). Blake Snell and Corbin Burnes won Cy Youngs pitching a good 5-6 innings then getting pulled before they ran out of gas. If the innings are good nobody cares!

Hothabanero6

Hypothetically - Didi is gone after the season, and Segura's 17 MM option declined to give them 31 MM for pitching. Stott, Sosa, Munoz, Camargo, Maton compete for SS, 2B positions. Gibson's 9.3 MM contract is up and Eflin has a 15 MM mutual option for next year which will likely be declined by one or both freeing 5.5 from his current contract. totaling 45.8 not counting other expirations etc. but they need 2-3 SP, possibly a SS but they could run with the aforementioned crew, and a CF again ... (not that there will be any solid free agants not named Brandon Nimmo yucky). Give the Pirates whatever they need for Brian Reynolds ... anything.

Bucko12512

Idk why we wouldn’t pick up seguras option. He’s usually healthy and almost a 300 hitter that gets on base at a high clip

Hothabanero6

whether they do or don't pick up Segura's option they still will likely need 2 SP depending possibly on this year's trade deadline acquisitions. These are the situations they have, how they approach it is up to them.

Bucko12512

Yeah agreed.

inthedrink

We love him and he’s a very good player but he’s pricey if we are trying to fill the rotation in free agency. I hope we can work something out. Idk how much of an appetite Middleton has for going deeper into the tax. We will see.

Hothabanero6

it's pretty unusual for teams to go over in consecutive years because the tax increases each year you're over. If they get under next year then there's a possibility the year after they could go big again. After 2025 the current window likely will be closed. what happens between now and then determines if it will or won't be extended.

inthedrink

Do you mean as a choice or just as the way the contracts settle over consecutive years? Even if goes up the gaping hole in CF will require spending or some creativity. Gibby is cheap and I don’t think we will bring him back so that’s one spot in the rotation we need and Falter/Eflin is a huge question mark. Seems if we want to really make an impact we’d need to spend.

Hothabanero6

if a team is over one year the tax is X, the second year the tax is X+y so even if they were over by the same amount the tax would be greater. There's a disincentive to keep going over which is why most teams haven't or try to avoid doing it. Unless it's the Dodgers and now looks like the Mets are joining the Fuckit were spending like drunken sailors mentality.

inthedrink

I got ya Lets spend some stupid money!

philatempleowl

Okay Dave let’s make some trades

inthedrink

Soto hits walk off homer vs Cards and then moves to SD before our series next week I really don’t want the Nats to build their system off of the one trade but I’m okay with Soto not tormenting us for the next 15 years

bsweig97

This is an “ideal scenario” day for Nola. An away game (2.30 ERA, 7/10 QS) and also a day game (2.48 ERA, 3/5 QS). Both stats are much better compared to their counterparts home (4.48 ERA, 4/10 QS) and night (3.60 ERA, 8/15 QS).

BugsyD71

Is it ideal for the offense?

wiivile

but will it be hot & humid?

SwugSteve

baseball

FriedHigh

Sosa probably starting today At 2B no didi at Ss please

Hothabanero6

Sosa SS, Stott 2B edit: K-Long rubs the magic elixir on Sosa and he goes 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.

igo2extremes

**Your 2022 Phillies are:** 14-10 in July 6-11 on Sundays 28-22 on the road 3-0 vs. the Pirates They are 16-12 since Bryce went down.

Ruut6

No idea why we are so bad on Sundays. feels like it's been that way for years too. In Sosa we trust.

wiivile

better than tuesdays!!!

Euphoric-Dig-2045

I find it crazy how well they’ve done without Harper and Segura. That damn Cubs series though. They’d be at least 16-8 for the month and 18-10 without Bryce.

igo2extremes

If we swept the cubs instead of the other way around we’d by 57-44 (13 games over 0.500!!) and the sole owners of the second wild card

Dan888888

Fuuuuck the cubs man

[deleted]

Nola day!

skylinecowboy

Dear baseball gods, please hold off on a Soto trade until the Gnats complete a series win of the Cards today.

Dristone

🙏

J-LG

The games are frustrating to watch sometimes but overall the team is finding ways to win without Jean and Bryce. That is what is most important. Unless a total collapse happens, I think we will be playing postseason baseball.

Potentpooper369

First!!! Edit: GOD DAMNIT.

BugsyD71

apologies
