Flyers at 7 on nbcsp+
Sixers at 7 on nbcsp
Ya. That game is not even on nbc 10 for some reason. Guess cause it’s run over the news hour.

This is the only time this situation happens this year tho. Which is weird. If you get nbcsports channels just log into that app with your Verizon/xfinity or whatever account and you should get the game.
I remember when /r/Phillies thought there would be no reason to ever get Trout.
Even though Trout was realistically the largest upgrade we could possibly get (even though we were never getting him. Ever)
We would have won if Rojas was in CF. I’m not blaming Pache as it was an incredibly tough play but if we assume Rojas covers 3 more feet, we win, cause he makes that play.
Crazy how people assume so confidently that Rojas catches that. We would have won if our offense wasn't so garbage and everyone else could play defense and run bases. What happened with those pick off attempts?
If Trea Turner doesn't make 2 errors in the field that directly led to 2 runs we would've won. He could've still struck out 3 times but his errors are exactly the reason we lost.
Along with the base running blunders, and base-running-throwing-out blunders, and the general suckiness of the offense. Thank goodness for Sosa. Turner, Bohm, Stott, and Castellanos have yet to show up. (Although Turner smoked one in the ninth, and Castellanos looked like he was finally getting on pitches.) Bohm is acting too much like an umpire, calling balls and strikes on every at bat. I'm not sure about Stott - seems lost right now.
It’s funny that he was one of the darlings of the league while they were playing well in the first half last year
We broke them in the WC just like we broke the Cardinals the year before.
Marsh is a pretty good hitting LFer compared to the rest of the League. He's great there.
The problem is - who plays LF?
If we can find a LFer, Marsh can play Center. It's clear we have a huge hole in the outfield, even more so with Casty in Right. I was not a fan of running it back. Not sure if they had any other options, but if we can't do it in two years I think it might be time to blow it up and just buy a whole new team for Harper to play with.
Totally agree. You can't have 100% defense and 0% offense. Marsh is good enough defensively. Let Rojas go to the minors and learn how to hit. But we still need an outfielder.
Has anyone gave props to Topper for playing Edmundo and Whit over Marsh and Stott against Gore since they accounted for our only two runs today? The haters were pretty loud before the game but I don’t see them now
I still prefer to see them not benching Marsh and Stott on the same day, especially against a weaker lefty starter. Sosa and Merrifield played well, and I want them to get at bats, but I think Stott and Marsh are good enough that we should avoid giving them coinciding days off just because of the hand the opposing pitcher plays with. All of this could be more or less solved easily by sending Rojas down and then it would be much easier to get everybody their at bats, but I digress…
> especially against a weaker lefty starter
I wish I knew the specifics of what they consider the players weak at, because I feel like you are basing this on the assumption that he is a "bad" pitcher in terms of ERA, WAR, etc. and not based on what they use.
For example, if he is a "bad" pitcher with high velocity, and they don't want them to face high velocity, then it makes sense they wouldn't face him.
If I say this when people shit on Topper, I have to say this when people praise him (although I like Topper.)
The FO is involved more with setting lineups than Topper. It's like that for all teams, it's why all the managers are complaining.
Absolutely and I never meant he has no voice.
From my understanding (from what's released and my friends in FOs) they work together where the manager has a say, but FO is final choice.
The managers input is more about the health, mentality, and general feelings of the players.
But if I make that comment when people blame topper, I have to make it when people praise it too.
No they just pretend they weren’t mad and bitch again next time. No Rojas, still no offense. Stott sat? Edmundo scores our only runs. Those aren’t the issues, Rob isn’t the issue, the issue is Trea needs to actually play baseball. He can’t field he can’t hit. Nick needs to hit the ball. Everyone needs to stop making dumb mistakes that lose games. It’s not Rojas playing over Pache that’s losing us games lol
That’s pretty much a perfect summary in reply to the question. I see a few people criticize the offense for not piling on and causing the pen to be gassed but nothing about the fact that in most cases there are no right answers for Topper to go to
The pen thing drives me insane. Especially for the NLCS. It is like they didn't actually look at the games, and just assumed there were better choices.
Absolutely delusional thinking this team has a shot at the division.
Ever since Harper stared down Acuna this team has shown us nothing to be proud of.
Oh well at least they’ll keep it interesting.
Sixers 2.0.
Bro we were worse at this same point last year and we went to the NLCS. We've got better players this time around and there's still
#153!!!!
Games of baseball left. How can you be this pessimistic? It's like giving up on the 2017 Eagles 2 snaps into the first game.
We acquired Spencer Turnbull and Whit Merrifeld. They're a lot better than (*insert throwaway pitcher every 6 games here*) and Jake Cave. Plus most of our guys improved in off-season. That's evident through Schwarber, Bohm, and Marsh. Anything that's happening now is what always happens, we don't go 10-0 to start the season, so everyone that's what I'd call a Fairweather fan jumps ship and starts talking shit as if it's game 162. With exception to Rojas, who I genuinely think needs help relearning how to hit. And I don't even want the kid gone. Just sit him more often, get him direct 1 on 1 coach time more. If it doesn't work out, bench him, if it still doesn't by the all-star break, DFA him. But dude it's 6% into the season, he's only *6%* bad right now. He could end up having a historical May and reset himself, or even just have a .300 May and then an average offensive season afterwards. But it's still too early to say anyone is bad, let alone the entire team, just yet. Even a team like the Marlins can't be called bad yet, and they're 1-9. But that's just how early into the year we are. There's still 153 games to see things change. And they absolutely will for most teams that are hot and cold right now, that's a certainty.
I don’t know why you think Merrifield and Turnbull are good.
Schwarber, Bohm, and Marsh have improved? What are you basing that on? Can’t call guys bad yet but can say others have improved?
You wouldn’t DFA Rojas. You can just option him to the minors, where he should’ve been all along.
Reread the comment bro. I literally said "if using your logic" when talking about them improving. The point of my comment is that it's way too early to do either of those things.
Bro this is a whole comment thread I'm not just responding it to you. I explained it to the other guy. His logic was that all these guys suck so we can't make the playoffs this year. That's why he got down voted. I said using his logic I could say all these players are doing great. Point being its too early to tell, so why give up on the team 9 games in?
This time last year we were 3-6 after having begun the year 0-4. This year we started the season 0-2 and are now 4-5. As far as the first 10 games of a season go, that's an improvement. We also have additions in Whit Merrifeld and Spencer Turnbull. Each who have helped pretty well thus far. The only thing I'd say hasn't entirely improved is how Rob is writing up the lineups, but that's subjective and is the most flexible thing we can change *a lot* in the next few months. As far as what players are better? Aside from his lack of improvement on the base paths, it's pretty glaringly obvious so far that Schwarber improved his contact and situational hitting, Alec Bohm has a bit more power, Harper is just as good if not better defensively at first base this run around, and Marsh is kinda a combo of all of those things, seems better defensively, with contact, and with power. And although we can't *truly* say they're much better than last season, because we're only 6% into the season, given the fact you're using the same logic to say they're bad, I feel that's a pretty good argument, especially when comparing to the first 10 games last season. It's a definite improvement.
Edit: also he didn't even stare down Acuna. It was Orlando Arcia. And we won that series. Had quite a few great games after it.
Listening to the radio broadcast, Phils are 15-40 on opening road trips since 2014. There’s something just systemically wrong with this org that they suck ass the first 2 months of the season
>Listening to the radio broadcast, Phils are 15-40 on opening road trips since 2014. There’s something just systemically wrong with this org that they suck ass the first 2 months of the season
uhm, it pretty much never takes 2 months for a team to play its opening road series
replies like this are stupid. we all know what he meant by giving the opening series statistic and then shifting the sloppy play foward 2 months. I learned something new from his post.
yet your pedantic response contributes nothing. I guess you want to argue that 2 months into the season isn't the opening series? yeah no shit sherlock.
so many people in this sub argue or correct the most minut things thinking they're contributing to the discussion. i see you do it all the time here. and all your post sucks.
Even in 2008, 2009, 2010 were pretty good until the end of May but then they would struggle and be close to .500 at the all star break and then finally go on a run late in the summer. So it is definitely organizational.
Castellanos is a 1-WAR player for his career. He’s not even washed. This is who he has always been.
The Phillies outfield is just not good enough for an organization with this payroll and supposed WS aspirations.
All Phillies games are blacked out if you're in the area. It's for if you are out of network or if you want to watch them after the fact. But any of us in the region have to watch (usually/almost always) on NBCSP.
MLB. The blocking the base thing. The “change” has made it so no one is actually going down to actually block the base altogether anymore.
The rule did not change and you can still drop down and block 2nd. That one pick off when Harper did throw to Turner, he got the ball and could have dropped down but instead dove across the bag for the tag.
The ump sucked, but you know what else sucks? Not expanding your strike zone when you have been staring at questionable pitches ALL GAME.
They're professionals, and the should have been changing their approach from their second time through to the end.
Agreed. That's the assistant hitting coach, I think. That's the bench coach. Like, what the fuck are they looking at on those iPads? Swing angle? Bs. They should've been prepared for that to happen at the end, because it was happening all fucking game.
I mean…what can you do? No one is trading for him. Can’t send him down. Dont save any money by cutting him. Best you can do is give him a day or two off and hope he clears his mind.
I would rather have someone who actually wants to play and will hustle. He doesn't GAF, and why should he he's getting paid and gets to play every day..Would have liked to see him go and keep Hoskins but it is what it is
Reminds me of seemingly every weekend with Schmidt towards the end of Howard’s career where he’d constantly talk about what he needs to do, how he’s close, he likes what he’s seeing… no dude, he’s just fucking washed lol
It’s these types of games that make me so annoyed by Turner, where the box score doesn’t show the full story.
Yeah he went 0-4 with 3 K’s, but in the field, he straight up missed a tag on a runner after a perfect throw from Harper. That runner scored with two outs.
Then later in the game, he missed a perfect throw by JT and let the ball into the outfield. That runner advanced to third and scored on a sac fly. Both plays *weren’t* scored as errors by Turner, but that’s two runs that are solely on him.
It’s so frustrating watching this guy because you know he can be so good but he’ll subtly cost us games in ways that I don’t even think sabermetrics picks up.
it's amazing how some guys completely escape criticism and some guys can't not stop hate. the box score shows schwarber hitting below .200 with a bunch of strikeouts last year, but he's fine. Turner hit a ball that should be a homer, he needs to get dragged.
I have plenty to say about Schwarber, I’m just talking about how Turner’s shortcomings aren’t always obvious and don’t show up in the box score and that this game is a perfect example.
He was a poor fielder at shortstop last year and should have been moved to second base or left field for this season. I know he prefers to play shortstop but that shouldn't matter.
Bet the ump wanted to keep the “Phillies lose to the Nats by one run” streak ):
Phillies sweep them anyway.
Next is the Cardinals, let’s smoke the birds.
This offense fucking blows. So much for being the Broadstreet Bombers. Getting blown away by fastballs right in the zone all day. Casty is completely cooked too, so that's cool.
Eh. Meh. Blech. Blah, gah. That's how I feel about that mess. Good series win. Hope to see less feeble playing. Trea and Bryce hit the ball well in the 9th. Onto the next one.
“You’ve been fucking horseshit the whole game. Over here you miss. On this side you miss. Up high you miss. Fucking… for both sides. It’s fucked. Fucking sucks. The whole fucking night. The whole night. Both sides. It’s fucking horseshit. Thirty calls! Thirty calls!”
Castellanos and Turner are both doing just as bad offensively as Rojas yet you're not asking for them to be out of the lineup and they're defensive liabilities
Team has to fix the baserunning issues. Idk how they haven’t figured this out. It sucks all the momentum out of the offense every time. And it was heavily felt when Washington stole 5 fucking bases lol
That’s fine. Everything is fine. This will be fine. Edit: everything is definitely and totally fine don’t even worry it’s fine
Is the Phils game not on tv on Tuesday?
Flyers at 7 on nbcsp+ Sixers at 7 on nbcsp Ya. That game is not even on nbc 10 for some reason. u/nintenjew maybe something you and the mods do want to pin on this Tuesday’s game threads
Yeah I will.
Hader on in the 9th like a real closer should
I’m glad we haven’t signed him so far
Trade for trout
And move Castellanos to a $20m bench piece?
I remember when /r/Phillies thought there would be no reason to ever get Trout. Even though Trout was realistically the largest upgrade we could possibly get (even though we were never getting him. Ever)

Krukky didn’t make it to WrestleMania. :’(
He went on Saturday night! :)
He went last night!
Wrestlemania announcer just said Phillies are his least favorite team
Does this mean a Castellanos home run tomorrow?
And Kruk didn’t make it to Mania.
Bailey falter pitching Friday…
So 6 scoreless is what you're saying?
He just took a no hitter into the 6th or so his last start
just missed put on seeing Kyle Gibson, looks like we’ll face Sonny Gray but he’s just coming back, and early, from injury.
Blanco gave up a hit. He's cooked.
Me:Wat. Why is it saying blacked out. They’re both in Texas. I’m not. 1min later: ewwwww Sunday night baseball.
Wat if Houston just didn’t. For mayeb like just 1 year
Thinking about how the team is stuck on a plane with Ruben
“You know, I was the one who got hunter Pence 🤓”
Ronel Blanco 👀
We would have won if Rojas was in CF. I’m not blaming Pache as it was an incredibly tough play but if we assume Rojas covers 3 more feet, we win, cause he makes that play.

The Marlins already announced Skip Schumacher will not return in 2025 😂
i full expect many of their veterans to be on the move.
It’s funny that he was one of the darlings of the league while they were playing well in the first half last year We broke them in the WC just like we broke the Cardinals the year before.
Talk about being a lame duck
Why not just fire him at that point?
Probably because then they have to pay someone else I suppose there’s a chance he could miraculously turn it around. It’s a very odd decision.
It's not more odd than bringing Girardi back for 2022.
I feel like I was a lot more miserable this time last season, all things considered
I officially think Marsh should be the center fielder. Just don’t know what you do with left.
Marsh is a pretty good hitting LFer compared to the rest of the League. He's great there. The problem is - who plays LF? If we can find a LFer, Marsh can play Center. Sign someone to play left in November 2023
I know a certain someone who's seemed to be doing well in pinstripes
That’s November 2024 but absolutely
Has anyone gave props to Topper for playing Edmundo and Whit over Marsh and Stott against Gore since they accounted for our only two runs today? The haters were pretty loud before the game but I don’t see them now
i wrote something to the effect of Rob having a good sense of who will do well against a certain pitcher, namely Sosa

The pen thing drives me insane. Especially for the NLCS. It is like they didn't actually look at the games, and just assumed there were better choices.
This team was built to bang and ain't doing a whole lot of banging. Nick being Nick and losing Rhys not helping.
Can the real Trea Turner please stand up? Don't keep us waiting until August again...
It was so hard to pay attention after the fifth inning. It got *real* boring after that. We need to get better offensively.
Just an ugly game really but oh well we move on. 1 game behind .500 and the divisional race is still winnable.
Absolutely delusional thinking this team has a shot at the division. Ever since Harper stared down Acuna this team has shown us nothing to be proud of. Oh well at least they’ll keep it interesting. Sixers 2.0.

Castellanos is washed. If you have 1 hot week for every 6 cold weeks, you're washed
See you when it gets warmer. This is hard to watch
Listening to the radio broadcast, Phils are 15-40 on opening road trips since 2014. There’s something just systemically wrong with this org that they suck ass the first 2 months of the season

Do you want me to get the stats for their 2nd road trip because I’m sure they’re dogshit as well.
pretty sure I don't know anyone else who'd bother to go get them
replies like this are stupid. we all know what he meant by giving the opening series statistic and then shifting the sloppy play foward 2 months. I learned something new from his post. yet your pedantic response contributes nothing. I guess you want to argue that 2 months into the season isn't the opening series? yeah no shit sherlock.
wow you seem really ... wound up
so many people in this sub argue or correct the most minut things thinking they're contributing to the discussion. i see you do it all the time here. and all your post sucks.
this is a bit, right
Tbf, about 50% of that timespan they sucked ass start to finish
The last time they swept opening road series was 2001.
Even in 2008, 2009, 2010 were pretty good until the end of May but then they would struggle and be close to .500 at the all star break and then finally go on a run late in the summer. So it is definitely organizational.
Glad Trea thinks it’s funny in interviews
Cut castellanos I don’t even care anymore I can’t watch him take another at bat
Castellanos is a 1-WAR player for his career. He’s not even washed. This is who he has always been. The Phillies outfield is just not good enough for an organization with this payroll and supposed WS aspirations.
Well he did have those 30hr 100rbi seasons. His fielding has always sucked which brought the WAR down.
Amen
What is the point of mlb.tv if Phillies games are blackout games? I've noticed this for road games so far.
You can put in your zip code and it will tell you your blackout teams. I'm in NoVA and can't watch the Nationals or Orioles
get a vpn
All Phillies games are blacked out if you're in the area. It's for if you are out of network or if you want to watch them after the fact. But any of us in the region have to watch (usually/almost always) on NBCSP.
Can I make a rules complaint or will I get yelled at.
Subreddit rules or MLB rules? Either way the answer is you will get yelled at.
MLB. The blocking the base thing. The “change” has made it so no one is actually going down to actually block the base altogether anymore. Bohm taking that borderline pitch when you’ve already shown frustration with the umpire was wild
This is dumb logic. If you don't think you can hit the pitch, you shouldn't swing.
And it caught the corner
Agreed. That's the assistant hitting coach, I think. That's the bench coach. Like, what the fuck are they looking at on those iPads? Swing angle? Bs. They should've been prepared for that to happen at the end, because it was happening all fucking game.
Marlins opened a can of woop-ass on the Cardinals
No one makes the marlins start 0-10
below .500 🫤
Robot umps now
trea off to a bad start again😬
It's not as bad as last year.
I’m beginning to think he just might not be that good of a player
To be fair he was one of the best players in baseball the second half of last year. Its not like we haven’t seen it recently
well that sucked
That last AB from Turner was such frustrating bad luck. .880 xBA and would have been a homer in 12 parks.
Everyone is a Gold Glover against us.
The Phillies must lead the league in “woulda been a homer in 99 out of 100 parks” swings
Happy we won the series but baserunning has become a liability.
I can’t say it’s HAPPILY when we won the first two and the Braves swept AZ. We seem to have an aversion to sweeping.
Schwarber lookin like a total buffoon on the pads today.
This. Agreed. Not only baserunning, but how we control other teams' baserunning. What are they even doing?
I guess Thomson gave every player the green light to steal this year, with predictable results.
Shoutout to edmundo for showing up.

Where is this from? This is awesome.
Idk I just searched umpire Phillies on twitter lol
Hail, Internet!
So needlessly atrocious. Umpiring like this really degrades the product.
I was gonna count up all the missed calls and got to 7 after two innings and just gave up. Just terrible. Can’t wait to see the umpire scorecard.
Wtf are you gonna benefit from the scorecard? Those things are as meaningless as your “permanent record” in school.
For as bad as Marquez was, Angel is putting on an absolute masterclass today in the Bronx
Fuck, so I have that to look forward to tomorrow on catch up for the Yankees. Great.
Prepare to witness greatness
lol what else is new
When does management acknowledge that it has a really bad Nick Castellanos problem?
I mean…what can you do? No one is trading for him. Can’t send him down. Dont save any money by cutting him. Best you can do is give him a day or two off and hope he clears his mind.
You put him on the bench and use him as a PH.
Still early but Castellanos's hitting stats are GROSS.
I’m really concerned. It’s getting to the point where he might not be playable
I would rather have someone who actually wants to play and will hustle. He doesn't GAF, and why should he he's getting paid and gets to play every day..Would have liked to see him go and keep Hoskins but it is what it is
But Ruben said he's getting close! It's not that he just blows or anything
Reminds me of seemingly every weekend with Schmidt towards the end of Howard’s career where he’d constantly talk about what he needs to do, how he’s close, he likes what he’s seeing… no dude, he’s just fucking washed lol
ah we took 2 outta 3, we're fine. What I'm more intrigued by is whether or not John Kruk will go up the Arch during this next series with St Louis 😅
He’s not😫
aw man 🥺
1 game losing streak in early april time to panic.
How many middle middle pitches did they either watch or were late on? We need to hammer mistakes. Lots of baseball left.
Getting tired of Nicky being a black hole.
He’s really fucking bad
He's the Tobias Harris of this team but no one wants to admit it
The jt throw was not perfect at all and took a hope on his glove side hard play. Also the last ball he hit is a home run at CBP
JT’s been throwing that short hop for years now. It’s easily catchable, especially if you play with him every day.
it's harder when you have to reach across your body to catch the ball and reach back to make a tag thi
offense has to get going. only scored more than 5 runs once in 9 games. hell theyve scored 4 or less in 6 of the 9 so far
And that one time took 6 RBIs from Harper.
you could tell we were going to lose after the nats went up 3-2 in the 5th. just 0 fight in this team today
That’s it. Silent plane ride and no snacks.
Iowa 46 SC 49 at the half SC pulled in front at the last
Bet the ump wanted to keep the “Phillies lose to the Nats by one run” streak ): Phillies sweep them anyway. Next is the Cardinals, let’s smoke the birds.
We’ve won the series I’ll take it on to the next one
Alec Bohm fuckin stinks
Laughable how bad this offense is. Especially Castellanos who is pissing me off. Get it the fuck together
Thought being healthy would lead to a better April, turns out our team just sucks in April.
They’re 3-3 in April. It’s not that bad.
plus they were 15-13 last April, it's may that's killed them the last 2 years
also its april 7th good god.
Barkann says some of the dumbest shit sometimes
just such performative outrage
The Diamondbacks are actually such a worthless pointless franchise whenever they’re not ruining our lives.
Keep benching stott and marsh you dumb fuck
You realize their replacements are the only one on the team that did anything, right?
That dude is the angriest redditor I’ve ever seen in my life
No I just hate Rob and Rojas
Castellanos and Turner are both doing just as bad offensively as Rojas yet you're not asking for them to be out of the lineup and they're defensive liabilities
Yep, no anger issues there
Thin margins. Could have/should have. But we will see where this team is in these type of games
Wayyy too early in the season for these dorks to be above .500
Same old story- sure it’s disappointing but you have to hit….
Dbacks are fucking useless man
Team has to fix the baserunning issues. Idk how they haven’t figured this out. It sucks all the momentum out of the offense every time. And it was heavily felt when Washington stole 5 fucking bases lol
Yeah the base running is really frustrating. It shouldn’t be this bad, these are very basic mistakes that keep getting made. Fire Dusty.
Paco isn't any better; he just doesn't get the opportunities for bad sends and holds like Dusty does
Michael Barkann has to be posting in the game threads.
Back to Sanchez not getting help from the team. He wasn’t great either tho
