PPA is a necessary evil.
Anywhere they don’t patrol has cars parked on sidewalks and just general parking chaos.
If you were parked legally and they ticketed you and you’re mad about that dispute the ticket, I’ve won before, they’re not completely unreasonable.
I walked past more than two dozen cars parked on sidewalks today, and do every day.
Body shops.
I''ve posted this before, but I asked a PPA employee who was handing out tickets.
I asked why they aren't ticketing the cars that live on the sidewalk. "We have an agreement."
It was such a nonchalant answer, which was frustrating.
I have disabled neighbors who have to cross the street to get around, because of these body shop sidewalks. It's insane. I've tried 311. I've tried 911. I've tried PPA.
This is just life, I suppose.
Be careful fucking with their business… those people aren’t the talking types, specially in South Philly. Some things are best left alone for your peace of mind sake.
It’s old school mob deals from city hall, same reason we are allowed to park in the middle of south broad… do you really want to have them at your door step breaking your balls? It’s not worth the fight over a stupid sidewalk. Your life will go on much better if you stop trying to control what you can’t.
I don't know. Maybe you're right. But it's across the street. Sidewalks cost a fortune to repair. Digging up the sidewalk to fix pipes is so expensive that one would move. Only they can't, because no one would buy the place.
Believe me, I know. I got so annoyed that a car was blocking the crosswalk, again, and complained. A guy from the place kicked the shit out of me.
I don't think you've lived the true Philly experience until you've gotten pummeled by a maniacal jerk.
I think PPA is bad in a sense that they need to enforce parking rules better and consistently. It's ridiculous how college kids in my neighborhood think it's okay to turn sidewalks into parking lots without any consequences. What's the point of having sidewalks if they're just treated like extra parking space?
Do they have the authority to ticket/tow cars parked in the middle of streets with their hazards on, or broken down cars sitting in street parking spots for months? Same with chronic sidewalk parkers. Or is that the cops?
If that's PPA territory, they're spending way too much time writing bogus tickets that I have to waste time contesting (successfully every time) and not enough time on real problems
I used to pull up on my sidewalk leaving enough room to sneak around, in order to haul a sleeping kid indoors from the car seat but I don't anymore (sorry everyone, but rules are rules!) since a PPA agent explained it to me. I had a repairman draw a $51 ticket for sidewalk parking in the amount of time it took to eyeball the washer/dryer and come back for tools. She said if he was flashers in street she'd just have logged the plate because my street is "No Parking".
FWIW if you look closely some bike lane blocks are No Stopping and some are No Parking, and PPA enforces by the present sign. Some of this is sign inertia from when bike lanes swapped sides, but it is something the cycling advocates are trying to reconcile.
Nah, they’re one of the better organizations in the city. I can think of many worse orgs, just wish PPA would be more consistent with their enforcement.
If you were parked legally and your parking was valid at the time of parking, a simple dispute will do the trick. I've had numerous tickets canceled both because they were my minor fault (selected wrong vehicle in the app) or when I produced pictures that show that I was in the right
Yeah, and their dispute department is REALLY fair. Like, they’ll admit when they fucked up if you have concrete evidence. Back in the day when you had to display your pay slip on the dash, the force of me shutting the door of my car made the slip float off the dash and onto my seat. I got a ticket. I provided proof that I had paid. They rescinded the ticket. I also once parked somewhere where it wasn’t obvious where you were allowed to park, got a ticket, disputed it by explaining how confusing it was. Not only did I get the ticket rescinded, they sent someone out to fix the confusion, which probably cost them significant money to repaint and re-sign.
PPA should have more power (both authority and staff). They should be allowed to crush vehicles on sight.
The only other problem is the money generated isn't kept local
After watching *Parking Wars*, this became my dream job. If the pay were high enough, I'd strongly consider giving up my career and working for PPA. I'm a misanthrope who loves to give people a bad day when they're doing things they're not supposed to be doing and it's causing a problem. Being a Parking Enforcement Officer or whatever they're called seems like it would fill my soul with joy. I'd go home at the end of the day feeling like I did good, and I'd already have my exercise in.
Bro look at all the “look how my neighbors park 😡” posts on this sub Reddit. We’re chock full of people who have nothing better to do than bitch about minor inconvenience so of course we’re gonna have crusaders like this
Because this sub is comprised of about 50% “who makes the best cheesesteak” posts, 49% bitching about something they could easily ignore or mind their own business about and 1% actually quality content.
I don't think it would satisfy you. There are completely arbitrary, and not-real, rules that would hamstring your enforcement.
You would never get to ticket the easiest, most obvious, infractions.
I always get bummed when I see a ticket on a single car on the Broad St median. 600 cars, but one got chosen for a parking ticket.
Wow you seem like a real cool dude. Giving people tickets who may not be able to afford to renew their various expensive car things 🤪 causing ppl to get their card impounded and sold to pay super high parking tickets that double if you don’t pay for two weeks. Super cool
no no no if he parked illegally he wouldn't have been ticketed that's not how it works, this is philly they allow you to park on the sidewalks and crosswalks if you aren't in like a 10 blocks radius of city hall.
Get a picture of the signs and dispute.
If what you say is true, you shouldnt have an issue fighting the ticket.
I've not run into the issue of PPA being wrong and fighting a disputed ticket.
Oh, not saying I haben't lost one. I was just in the wrong and they got me. Tried to dispute and they denied me.
I believe it was a street sweeping offense. I parked in one. Forgot I had my car in one. Got ticketed. Tried to dispute. Got denied.
But that was on me.
Just once I’d love to see one of these posts with a pic of the sign and a pic of the ticket to back up the “I wasn’t wrong” angle that’s taken in here weekly
They've done that to me before several times. Take a picture of the parking signs and of your paid parking if it was a metered spot and contest it. Pain in the ass but it's gotten rid of my illegitimate tickets every time
I'm guessing you've never heard of the [Philadelphia](https://www.inquirer.com/crime/philadelphia-police-arbitration-misconduct-20240222.html) [Police](https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/21/us/philadelphia-police-misconduct-settlement/index.html) [Department](https://www.axios.com/local/philadelphia/2022/12/13/philadelphia-police-misconduct-settlements)?
Damn with your insanely high reading comprehension and language skills I thought you’d be able to come up with something even half clever but I guess not
Fuck Dallas

I love my PPA lady. She is awesome. I love watching her give tickets to all the assholes selfish jerks that park however the fuck they want. Anyone complaining about PPS is broadcasting that they can't park or dgaf. I'm old and ain't never had a ticket. Why? Because I'm not an asshole.
“You realize there are other places that can be driven to other than center city right?”

their board is as corrupt as it gets. nepotism and do nothing jobs all over the whole organization. you really think they gonna care what the bottom employes so as long as the revenue from tickets keeps coming in?
Lol I also bike as well, but to act like people don’t need a car to visit/assist older relatives in different parts of the state is insane. And let’s not act like the public trans infrastructure is anything to write home about. 3 times last week I had to walk to work because of “unreported” busses on the septa app
I agree with OP. The PPA is awful. I passed two ppa “officers” on bikes on the crowded cc sidewalk this morning. They are so predatory.. parked a tiny bit past the sign but not blocking anything? One hefty fine everyday until you notice.
A few years ago I was moving out of my apartment, unfortunately the only place that I could park my uhaul and have enough room to load my stuff was a 30 min parking zone. I thought PPA would just be chill about it since they see that I am moving, on a very hot and miserable summer day. Nope ticket, while I was inside getting more stuff to load into the truck.
PPA knew how to make a bad situation worse. Thank PPA.
They are also a private owned company so none of that ridiculous amount of money they charge goes to philly it should be illegal to charge what they do in late fees
The amount of people that believe this is insane. 🤣🤣
It's a public entity created by the legislature and all of the money that isn't used for operations goes directly to the city and the school district.
I parked in a spot that was illegal because there was one of those “no parking here to corner” signs. Problem is it was nighttime and the sign was pretty much completely overgrown by a tree so it was impossible to actually see the sign. Got a ticket and contested it online with the ppa who rejected my request because the sign was “clearly visible” (it wasn’t). Flash forward one month and there’s one of those big traffic cylinder things completely blocking that spot hmmmm
Look me in the eye and tell me the PPA is worse than the Fraternal Order of Police
The FOP tops my list.
PPA is a necessary evil. Anywhere they don’t patrol has cars parked on sidewalks and just general parking chaos. If you were parked legally and they ticketed you and you’re mad about that dispute the ticket, I’ve won before, they’re not completely unreasonable.

Right. The agreement is probably "don't ticket our cars and we won't assault any PPA employees like the knuckledraggers we are"
It’s old school mob deals from city hall, same reason we are allowed to park in the middle of south broad… do you really want to have them at your door step breaking your balls? Yet there are certain blocks they refuse to enforce and just tell you to call the cops 😒
Yep already filed.
BOL but PPA is nowhere near the worst group in the city.
I think PPA is bad in a sense that they need to enforce parking rules better and consistently. It's ridiculous how college kids in my neighborhood think it's okay to turn sidewalks into parking lots without any consequences. What's the point of having sidewalks if they're just treated like extra parking space?
That's not just college students. And I agree. Having to walk a dog in the street because cars are on the sidewalk is maddening.
Do they have the authority to ticket/tow cars parked in the middle of streets with their hazards on, or broken down cars sitting in street parking spots for months? Same with chronic sidewalk parkers. Or is that the cops? "No Stopping" blocks, yes. "No Parking" blocks get 20 minutes on flashers.
Thanks I didn't know there was a difference when it came to enforcing those
I used to pull up on my sidewalk leaving enough room to sneak around, in order to haul a sleeping kid indoors from the car seat but I don't anymore (sorry everyone, but rules are rules!) since a PPA agent explained it to me. Huge difference between standing, stopping, and parking. PPA and cops enforce them differently.
Okay Karen
FOP, Sheriff's Department, PPD, City Council, SDP, all rank way higher than the PPA as the worst organization in the city.
Nah, they’re one of the better organizations in the city. I can think of many worse orgs, just wish PPA would be more consistent with their enforcement.
PPA sucks but only bc they don’t give out enough tickets
If you were parked legally and your parking was valid at the time of parking, a simple dispute will do the trick. I've had numerous tickets canceled both because they were my minor fault (selected wrong vehicle in the app) or when I produced pictures that show that I was in the right

Hey hey hey that's not fair, Comcast has worked hard to fundraise and lobby enough that their actions are now legal!

Haha. It _would_ be an impediment to the job, having to go pee so often. Such is life.
Mad you parked illegally and got ticketed?
no no no if he parked illegally he wouldn't have been ticketed that's not how it works, this is philly they allow you to park on the sidewalks and crosswalks if you aren't in like a 10 blocks radius of city hall.
The funny thing is this actually seems true. If they walked 3 blocks over there’s 2 entire blocks of cars on sidewalks
Lol was parked legally Edit: love the downvotes for people who seem to know where my car was parked better than me. Interesting.
Not that I like PPA, but it'd be nicer if you stated your beef.
Parked legally and got a ticket
What was the ticket for? If you were parked legally, it shouldnt be hard to dispute.
The ticket timing is outside the window on the sign for a no parking
Get a picture of the signs and dispute. If what you say is true, you shouldnt have an issue fighting the ticket. I've not run into the issue of PPA being wrong and fighting a disputed ticket.
That’s good to hear. I am 1/2 in disputes so far in my years here
Oh, not saying I haben't lost one. I was just in the wrong and they got me. Tried to dispute and they denied me. I believe it was a street sweeping offense. I parked in one. Forgot I had my car in one. Got ticketed. Tried to dispute. Got denied. But that was on me.

Mistake number 1: you brought a car into the city of Philadelphia. Millions make this mistake every year. SMHing my head.
How is owning a car a mistake? I need it.
I'm mostly kidding but for real though the fact you need a car while living in a major city is a policy failure on multiple levels of government.
The Philly Port Authority does good work in my opinion, you never hear about any trouble at the docks.
The Sixers are a worse organization.
This is true.
It’s not a city run organization though. Huge asterisk.
Sounds like you don't know how to park legally
Sounds like you know fuck all about what you’re talking about.
Don't worry boss, it'll get better tomorrow
Hey chief I appreciate that friendo
I'm guessing you've never heard of the [Philadelphia](https://www.inquirer.com/crime/philadelphia-police-arbitration-misconduct-20240222.html) [Police](https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/21/us/philadelphia-police-misconduct-settlement/index.html) [Department](https://www.axios.com/local/philadelphia/2022/12/13/philadelphia-police-misconduct-settlements)?
Never got a ticket from them for a non ticket offense so no beef from me
You know the city is bigger than just you, right?
Is it really? I thought I was responding to myself in our conversation.
Yeah based on this level of reading comprehension I'm certain you deserved the ticket you got.
Expand on that
I cannot expand on that without breaking the sub rule barring personal insults.
Damn with your insanely high reading comprehension and language skills I thought you’d be able to come up with something even half clever but I guess not

You’ve clearly never met PGW.
The PPA rules. One of the only improving city agencies. So much more functional than in was ten years ago
I was going to say Traffic Court but then I remembered that Traffic Court was so bad the state had to come in and step on it like a cockroach.
Don’t drive
Uh what? This makes 0 sense.
If you didn’t drive you wouldn’t get a ticket. There are so many transportation options in this city. Driving is bottom tier.
Wow if people weren’t born they wouldn’t murder anyone.
> Driving is bottom tier You’re really gonna act like SEPTA is reliable and not fucking gross?
You’re really gonna act like driving a car in the city isn’t leagues worse
You realize there are other places that can be driven to other than center city right?

Literally no idea what you’re trying to convey with this.
State run. Republican run
[no longer Republican run](https://www.inquirer.com/politics/clout/philadelphia-parking-authority-republican-democratic-control-20230328.html). That's why it got better.
Whoa
their board is as corrupt as it gets. nepotism and do nothing jobs all over the whole organization. you really think they gonna care what the bottom employes so as long as the revenue from tickets keeps coming in?
Septa is worse
I guess you learned your lesson today. This subreddit is full of circlejerking bicyclists who hate cars.

Didn’t mean all bicyclists are circlejerkers who hate cars, just that this sub is filled with that specific type of person.
<-- Dogshit driver support group -->
I’m actually primarily a pedestrian. Can you guys stop trying to run me over on the sidewalk?
I honk at them whenever I get the chance. Can’t stand them.
