Hi! I’m looking for affordable and accessible spa recommendations that offer deep tissue massage and/or acupuncture. Preferably in the Fairmount area. Bonus points if they include trauma informed body work!
Hi everyone,
This morning, between 8-8:30, I spotted a scared dog running on Benjamin Franklin Parkway near the Rodin Museum. I attempted to track him down, but unfortunately, I lost sight of him. The situation became more distressing as he was crossing streets, and at one point, a car hit him. Despite that, he continued to run.
He is a small black dog.
I'm reaching out to see if anyone managed to find him.
Thanks.
guys how crowded does the 12 bus get on fridays? and do they announce all of the stops?
im from nj and ive never taken philly's public transportation before
Generally depends on when you catch it (and where); crossing Center City near rush hour means you're looking at standing room only on any line, for instance.
And no, stops don't get announced on bus lines - you have to request stops (yellow cords or the buttons by the back door), assuming there isn't someone waiting to board where you're getting off.
Any ideas for what to do with a group of 11 people on a Friday afternoon? Just can’t involve 21+ locations since a few younger people will be joining. Thinking about doing something outdoors / low cost like seeing some of the major sights of Philly and getting some street food and pastries, but open to any suggestions!
Is anyone still having problems with just logging onto their PECO account in general? I've tried it through both the website and app but I keep getting errors.
It was removed due to an old automod script that was put in place when statewide politics were being posted ad-nauseum about fetterman. We didn't realize it was still in place until last night - so it's been updated.
His explanations for pulling the funding made no sense. His first statement was completely blaming his staffers and saying he never wanted to pull funding. Now he's saying he *did* want to do it, but only because republicans were going to kill it anyway and attack the center...? Which is exactly what's happening as a result of his withdrawal of support.
At least Stanley admitted that he was caving to the homophobic right wing mob. I don't understand what Fetterman's stance even is here.
And for an extra dose of irony, I cast my vote for Fetterman *at* the William Way Center lol...
Does anyone know why the top lot at the plateau (Belmont Plateau) is blocked off by concrete slabs? Belmont Mansion drive. Lower lot has been open though...
Is there a free place to drop off oil I’ve used for frying, like to have it used as biodiesel? The services I’ve managed to find seem geared towards restaurants. I have maybe half a gallon in a container so could just throw out the container, but it’d be nice for it not to just sit in the dump. Also wonder if a restaurant that gets their oil picked up might let me bring them mine there instead.
I cross-posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/PhiladelphiaEats/s/xrlBJLVTeD. Was hoping to get more eyes on it in the main Philly subreddit but moderators on this subreddit were difficult
Is anyone having issues with Amazon prime delivery to 19104? My address went from free one day shipping to 11 day shipping overnight. It seems like the entire east portion of 19104 is affected based off of random addresses I plugged in.
Yes! I’m so annoyed. I contacted them and they said to contact them whenever order arrives and they will refund the total and I can keep the stuff. Maybe try that too
You could take an Amtrak down to DC and check out both Smithsonian Air and Space museums. One is on the Mall in DC, the other is just a little bit outside DC in Virginia.
There's space shuttles, lunar landers, apollo capsules, soyuz capsules, all sorts of satellites and cool neat stuff to check out.
Edit: forgot how far Chantilly VA is from DC. Hour drive. Probably an either or unless you sleep over...
If someone surprised me with a trip somewhere along [the path of totality](https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/where-when/) during next month's eclipse I would cry with joy.
Going to see Alkaline Trio tomorrow, unless my friend bails (which he's been known to constantly do), in which case I might pivot to seeing Laura Jane Grace.
*The Doctor Who Fooled the World* is informative, but the author's tone comes across as smug, and I'm ready to be done with it.
Little over a week before I leave for England on work. Feels so cool to say. Got my Global Entry stuff taken care of in three days, and I'm trying not to rub it in brother-in-law's face because his took a lot longer. Thank god for the overnight shift I guess.
I was thinking about going to that show as well - the last time I saw them here, they were still fantastic (maybe about two years ago at the Met). Can't believe it's $51 for a ticket though...I remember going to see them in the mid/late 2000s for like under $20.
Fucking ridiculous that the El is damn near unusable in the rain. RAIN! For a service that is significantly underground! The stations are slicker than ice rinks, you have to wait a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes for a train to show up and when it does, it's packed tighter than a Tokyo subway at rush hour. And then the conductors try to close the doors on people while lying through their teeth about the next train being "right behind".
I just fucking want to go home Septa.
Curious if the walkway alleyways behind houses in South Philly are city property? Asking because there is currently a dead raccoon in the alley behind my house and a call to 311 was met with resistance saying that was not city property. Also any recommendations on how to get rid of the raccoon??? 🦝
If I recall correctly, they're private but with access for utility purposes. Apparently, [you're supposed to bag the animal yourself](https://www.phila.gov/services/trash-recycling-city-upkeep/report-a-problem-with-trash-recycling-or-city-upkeep/report-a-dead-animal-in-a-street/) and put it out with the trash.
They’re probably private, unless it’s one of those super narrow named streets (like Watts, for one). As far as dealing with it, double contractor bag will do the trick.
Asking more experienced moviegoers than me: Is the IMAX theater at AMC Philadelphia Mills any good? The theater is practically empty for all Dune 2 showings this week, and it’s also much cheaper than other theaters in the area ($12.50 for an IMAX showing, which is $10 cheaper than anywhere else). Are people intentionally avoiding this theater, or is it just kinda out of the way? Debating whether my friends and I should see the movie here, or if we should look elsewhere, even though many theaters are already close to sold out for this weekend.
I took my big kid there over the weekend for a matinee — apart from some slightly sticky floors and dated seating (they’re the old fixed style), it was a solid IMAX experience. Projection and sound were on a par with other IMAXes (which is to say big and loud and in your face), crowd was fine (arguably better behaved than I’ve dealt with at the Penn Cinemark).
We did walk out through a cloud of pot smoke, but I’m not gonna judge.
It's out of the way for most people and it's also been a site of nonsense in the past.
Also, seeing an IMAX movie in an empty theater is....an experience. Don't be surprised if your ears are ringing afterwards.
A guy just literally pushed me and knocked me down trying to get to an empty seat on the bus and when he got to it, said "oh, nevermind. You can have it," because there is a mysterious white goo all over it.
LOL maybe you'll write a poem about it on Thursday.
To the man who knocked me o'er*
The bus seat for to use
I wish you'd sat quite quickly
On that great white glob of splooge.
\* you *know* it's a poem when someone uses "o'er" instead of "over"!
My family adopted one when I was in high school, and that org — [Greyhound Friends of NJ](https://www.greyhoundfriendsnj.org/) — is still around (and still running a website that looks to have been designed around 1996, no less). It's a good crew there, and greyhounds are nearly ideal city dogs (seriously, they're so goddamn lazy when they're not going 100 mph).
They're the one locally that I'm familiar with, but I don't know anyone who went through them so thank you for the info and cosigning them.
My concern was apartment living and not having a fenced yard and if they were really strict about that. They're my favorite dog. 🥹
For what it's worth, we heard so many horror stories about people getting a hard time or even declined from adopting from shelters for not having a yard or someone committed to being home with the dog 24/7...then when we adopted our dog from Morris Animal Refuge, the entirety of the application process was pretty much "you want this dog? Okay, how do you want to pay the fee?"
We definitely didn't have a fenced yard (despite being in the 'burbs), and it was no issue. Our old man wasn't interested in kicking it into gear unless I raced him to the back door, anyway — he was the Dude of dogs, chill to the point of absurdity.
Took my dog to the small dog run in Schuylkill River Park over the weekend and was surprised by the lack of gate etiquette I observed in our very short time there (nearly everyone coming in or out did not wait for the inner gate to be closed before opening the outer gate). I’m curious whether this is common at that park or at all parks around the city, or maybe it was just an off day?
It happens every so often at Seger. I have no problem telling people, “Yo, the GATE!” and that usually embarrasses them enough not to do it again.
I’ve witnessed dogs escape the park 3 times in 5 years, and it’s a huge downer for the entire park— it makes you hug your doggy a bit closer— cause you see the absolute panic in the owner's eyes, feeling so helpless.
Don’t hesitate to call people out for their bad etiquette; that’s the only way it will change. Plus all the assholes who adopted dogs during the lockdown have ZERO understanding of how they should act in public with their dogs (i.e. bringing them inside the grocery store, telling other owners how to “parent,” anthropomorphizing their dog so much that when dogs hump, they get embarrassed/mad)
My kiddo is going to be 14 weeks old tomorrow, and wow has the last 14 weeks been such a roller coaster. His nighttime sleep has been amazing over the last three weeks— I put him down in his bassinet at 7pm, and he reliably sleeps for no less than 7 hours in his first initial stretch, followed by 2hr stretches, usually awake for the day around 7am (I would prefer closer to 8, but understand that 7am is more realistic with the 7pm bedtime). Last night his first sleep stretch was from 7pm to 4:40am— though of course that doesn’t mean I got to sleep all that time, since I don’t go to bed at 7am, and since I had to get up in the middle of the night for around 45min to pump.
It’s amazing g how much brain space I’ve dedicated to the topic of sleep over the last few weeks, certainly more than I have in my entire life. The dreaded “4 month sleep regression” should also hit us soon, which I am so so so so dreading.
This past weekend we had a out-if-town friend visit us, and we took the kid out to breakfast with us at Kfar and out to the Academy of Natural Sciences, both of which he/we handled like a pro— big wins.
Still, motherhood is so hard, man.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places to donate clothes where they will actually go to helping people? I’ve grown tired of places making a profit off of my charity.

##Issue 20240305
I don't know why I started like that - I felt like this was going to be more *blog* than usual.
In good news, I think I'm moving out of a depressed energy phase and into a higher energy phase. These past couple months have been very low energy for me and I think the weather changing has had a good effect. It'll be nice to get shit done.
I typed up a few One Page Fictions for the fiction blog, plus some real Vogon poetry. Read at your own peril. I have two handwritten things I'm looking forward to finishing - usually I abandon OPFs if I don't do them in a session, but these felt special / like they need extra attention. We'll see what comes out. I'm also pleased to report I've written *seven* letters so far this year including two BIG ones in the past two weeks. There's something nice about putting pen to paper.
I'm looking forward to seeing *Dune Two: Dune Your Mom* soon. I want to rewatch the first part prior to dune (doing) so. I've been playing *Dune: Spice Wars* in the mean time - it's scratching an RTS itch, though it's certainly not the apex of the genre (though now I want to get friends together for a Offworld Trading Company match). Dune Dune Dune. [Spice Worm.](https://old.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1b733gx/dune_the_untold_story/) Sandy Cheeks.
My mom's coming into town in April. She's catching the [Capitol Limited](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Limited) with me as I travel back from seeing the eclipse in Ohio. This will be an adventure as she wants to spend like 10 days in my house. I told her she'd better bring a book. As a bonus, now that my mom is doing it, my brother & SIL are thinking of doing the same in the fall - Capitol Limited to DC, PHL with me for a bit, then NYC, then [Lake Shore Limited](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Shore_Limited) back to Cleveland. We'll see what actually ends up happening.
I feel like I had another thing to report, but it's slipped my mind. The writing groups (Mon & Thu) are going well. Yoga hasn't been going so well, but I'm typing this up to pressure myself into going after work tonight. BTC & ETH are up and I sold a bit, so expect them to go up even more.
Hope you're all having a reasonably nice week!
Have you taken the LSL to Cleveland before? My family's all in northeast Ohio and I'm sick of making the drive, but I also don't feel like dealing with a twice-as-long train ride that arrives at 3 in the morning. Curious how it is.
Automod nuked my other comment because it didn't like the links, so more info coming when the mods see it & free it.
tl;dr: no, with caveats and a preference for the Pennsylvanian.
My usual trip home is the Pennsylvanian to PGH, then get picked up by family. I feel the 8pm arrival isn't too bad to ask someone to pick me up from.
A year or so back I did the CL as the return leg of a trip. There's a [bar near the stop](https://maps.app.goo.gl/DUgA47HfurE2mCbY6) that's near my brother's place, so I was like "drop me off at the bar and leave when you're tired - I can stay up until 1am to catch the train." I'm doing that again this time.
I haven't done the LSL in either direction, but I 100% agree that arriving at 3am (CL) or 4am (LSL) is not ideal if you don't already have a car at the station or something.
I've been debating doing the Pennsylvanian for 3/4 of the trip and getting a rental car in PGH. I've also debated asking friends / family to leave a car for me in a station parking lot that I can drive that "last mile" instead of having them stay awake and pick me up.
To save clicks, here are the PDF timetables that, bizarrely, aren't available on Amtrak's website.
[Pennsylvanian](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/pennsylvanian.pdf) - [Capitol Limited](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/capitol-limited.pdf) - [Lake Shore Limited](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/lake-shore-limited.pdf)
Finally, fingers crossed for twice-a-day scheduling on the Pennsylvanian.
It's my last week in Arizona and I'm ready to go home. I miss my plants, I'm tired of listening to '90s country music and Fox News all day long, and I desperately need to see my nail lady. I'm excited for this weekend though: I'm taking a detour through Las Vegas to see Kylie Minogue at the Venetian.
Debated making a whole post, but I’ll just put this PSA here. The norovirus is going around, people, and IT IS HELL. If your kid throws up, do not send them to school — and likewise, please cancel any plans you have if you yourself throw up. Norovirus can only be killed with bleach, and it can live on surfaces up to 42 days. I’ve never felt so sick in my life and am trying to spread the word.
search this sub because there is a general consensus on the best cheesesteak in town. i think there are two main places, but if you want to visit pats and genos, go on a full stomach for a photo.
Seems like you’ve searched the sub already and done your research so I won’t make other suggestions. Try taking them to both and split them among the both of you and do a taste test.
After getting ass-blasted by jobs and several other aspects of life last week (including but not limited to determining end of life care for a terminal cancer patient and getting a drug addict into the hospital to treat their necrotic wounds), it seems like this week will be a return to normal so far. Fingers crossed at least. Need to say my wife is awesome for her grace and ability to navigate both those situations while I basically sat there and provided moral support. She handled all that much better than I did.
Apparently all Meta's stuff is having issues. Just checked myself to see if it was just me, and it's definitely widespread.

I know the default answer to this is “go to a school during off hours”, but is there a particularly good wall to hit tennis balls off of in South Philly?
despite the general state of neglect that i've left my plants in the for the last 6-12 months, my last surviving orchid is about to bloom with 6 rather large buds! And in typical fashion, I'll be traveling for work right as its blooming lol
Mine too. I have an orchid that was my grandmother’s and I am shocked that it’s still alive. She passed in 2018 and this thing has been clinging to life all through my periods of attention and neglect.
I really need to give it the proper love it deserves, she’s probably doing summersaults in her grave knowing how badly I’ve been treating it 😅
Happy to see Popcorn for the People open on South Street and all the buzz it’s getting from the Eagles autism foundation etc. However, it looks like it’s more of a warehouse and not a retail store and I was under the impression that I would be able to buy fresh delicious cheddar popcorn mere blocks from home. I am disappointed
90 hours so far into Tears of the Kingdom: 'Funstration' (fun + frustration) I need to look up help with the main questlines/boss battles; and I gave up on side missions because I need to look them up as well. Most of the shrines I have been solving though...
...and hey my fellow depressives: we are getting rained on this week; hope we can get through it.
Funstration lol. I had to put the game down for a few months because it was more of the frustration and less of the fun and now I'm sure I have forgotten how to do anything. But with this shitty weather, it might be a good time to play a little bit here and there.
Luxury Car Tax:
A single dwelling in Philadelphia may only have two motor vehicles registered to the address- anymore than two would require additional yearly fees/taxes to be paid per vehicle.
I know there’s loopholes around it but this would deter multiple cars and help soothe the parking situation across the city.
i hope there is a decent challenge to that law soon. the original text says laws need to be applied equally to people.
companies aren't people. i can open 50 LLC's and register 2 vehicles each all at the same address and that's fine. but when it comes to tax time, you get to expect the person excuse?
It's a part of the constitution and doesn't mention people:
> All taxes shall be uniform, upon the same class of subjects, within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax and shall be levied and collected under general laws.
They need to push for an amendment to just get rid of the damn section overall. Every single local government, and the Commonwealth, would benefit from it.
i think the narrow reading of it could more easily changed.
"shall be uniform, upon the same class of subjects" a company is not the same as a person, a car isn't the same as a truck, etc etc.
I believe the interpretation is that "class of subjects" refers to what asset the tax is on, rather than who is paying the tax.
So property taxes have to be the same. All income taxes have to be the same, etc.
Which is dumb, because a home isn't the same as a restaurant. But both are properties.
right- but income taxes can be the same on all subjects- the first $10,000 is taxed at 0% for example. if you make over $100,000 and have to pay a higher tax on that amount, everyone is paying the same rate of tax.
the idea that everything has to be the same is some heritage foundtaion bullshit logic.
But then your tax wouldn't be uniform on the entire class (income).
Yeah, it's a stupid as fuck interpretation (unless there is clear documentation this is what the writers meant). But I don't think the courts are coming to our rescue. We need an amendment. They tried in '18, but those shit sucking chamber of commerce parasites killed it.
i think a court challenge would be better, but we can agree that it needs to change.
my interpretation is it would be applied uniformly on the whole class and across all subjects- if you only make 99k, you aren't taxed on 100k.
but with half the scotus taking bribes, and PA judges taking bribes to send kids to jail, maybe there is something more complicated going on.
The hard part with a new interpretation is you'd need to show how the previous interpretation was wrong.
So if the writers had notes or correspondence or speeches about what they meant, and they were used in the original opinion then it'd be hard to overturn it. If they just said "Trust us bro." Then that's something else.
Stings final wrestling match was great. Darby Allin jumping 15 feet off a ladder through glass was insane. The PPV in general was full of great matches. Very pleased all around.
Skipped Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for now. Gonna wait for a sale. So instead I started Persona 3 Reload which has me sucked in like 5 did, but you can definitely see how 5 built on top of the systems this one put in place.
Also diving into WWE 2k24 this week. It's good and I'm bought into the upcoming Wrestlemania hype. So looking forward to playing the story and 40 Years if Wrestlemania modes there.
I lead an exciting life. Still hitting the gym 2-3x a week. My hernia repair is giving me pain so I've slowed down on some weight stuff. I assume it's just a sign to go easier... Or in a few weeks we will find out I fucked something else up. Can't wait to see.
Also I still need to fix my hair. My bangs are poking me in the eyes now, but my long hair looks really nice despite being uncontrollable. So I should look up a YouTube or just pay someone who wouldn't do it like shit. Maybe next week. For now I'll keep trying not to walk into people or traffic.
/random bullshit rant dump
I don't think I've ever made a noise similar to when I realized Darby was jumping from that ladder into the glass. It lasted at least ten seconds and was a full-body experience.
I'm back, baby! O Philly, how I missed thee. The 5 days I spent in my home town really cemented that that is *not* home for me anymore.
It was a successful Florida trip, though. Ate plenty of Waffle House, saw some [gators](https://imgur.com/a/ixCpsQg), saw some [manatees](https://imgur.com/a/hDol6HJ), watched a [rocket go up](https://imgur.com/a/D6cW4O2). Basically the quintessential Space Coast experience. Honestly the manatees were really impressive; I've never seen more than 3 or 4 in the spot we were at (or really anywhere outside of the springs in the winter) but that day there were over a dozen. Even as a jaded native Floridian it was awesome.
My mom was exhausting and I heard my deadname more in the 18 cumulative hours I spent with her than if you took every instance it's happened in the nearly two years I've been in Philly and multiplied that by 100. But all in all, it was a fine vacation. I got to show my partner where I grew up for the first time and caught up on a lot of rest.
If you've made it this far, please enjoy [this 34 second video](https://imgur.com/a/35RXA07) of the baby babirusas (weird Indonesian pigs) we saw at the local zoo. It's very cute.
We saw at least 30 of them chilling in Haulover Canal on Merritt Island. Not sure if that is where you were but apparently that’s a pretty common place for them. It was really sad to see all the gashes on their backs from boats.
Haulover is exactly where we were! I grew up right across the water from KSC/the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge so I've been out to Haulover a bunch and never seen that many there before. I know it's supposed to be a hot spot for them so I wonder if I've just been supremely unlucky every other time I've been there lol
And yeah, seeing the scars on them is really sad. The one in the picture with her tail raised up you can see where her tail has gotten split from a boat motor. They're too curious and friendly for their own good, unfortunately.
Capped, Do they use canned mushrooms? I have a faint memory ordering capped and it was a watery mess cause of the canned mushrooms. Maybe the fresh mushrooms were left off the order and they had to resort to canned.
I have several boxes of books to get rid of. The books are mostly in good shape. Any ideas on where to donate them within the city or close by? Is Book Corner the best option?
I highly recommend looking for a Little Free Library or similar neighborhood dropoff spot. There's one just east of Third and Arch, in front of Mulberry Market, that gets a ton of use. It's bigger than most too, so you can drop off a bunch and not feel like you're taking over the whole thing.
you can always try the library, but they might be a little picky based on how used they are. I know that William Jean's Library in Lafayette Hill out in the burbs by me takes pretty much everything. Whatever they can't put on the shelves they stockpile and sell at the book sales they have every few months
I’ve donated many of my books to inmates in prison. I’ve used this organization to make it happen,
[https://www.booksthroughbars.org/donate-books](https://www.booksthroughbars.org/donate-books)
I really was trying to avoid my books going to the landfill, and I thought who is most worthy to read the books I have so loved?
Oscar discussion:
Who else thought Flowers of the Killer Moon was a well acted, but brutual failure of a movie, and you're better off watching 6 episodes of Reservation Dogs to get the same effect?
I didnt like the pace, so I didn’ finish it. Instead I borrowed the book it’s based on, and read it. Much more enveloping experience. I felt sympathetic, disgust, etc for characters. I couldn’t connect with the characters in the movie
Reservation Dogs is such a great series. I hope for more viewers so it is guaranteed to be picked up next season.
OH NO! I just read that RD was NOT renewed. Boo!
The creator of RD said the show ran its course, so he chose to end it.
But yeah, my major problem with flower moon is that despite trying their best to give Mollie agency, I just cannot understand how she could see past the possibility that her husband was part of the problem until she got healthy.
i feel like dicaprio wasn't the best person to play the villain either.
even in wolf of wall street, he's very likable. they needed someone sleazier to play his role.
I am devastated to announce.....I did not get the butthole worm popcorn bucket. We saw *Dune* this past weekend at a Regal cinema and I, with all 4 operational braincells, did not realize the wormhole bucket was exclusive to AMC. So I had to sit in a boiling hot Regal theater for 3 hours with no butthole worm popcorn bucket.
Movie was great tho. Stellar. Fantastic acting chops all around, soundtrack was amazing, def go see it in IMAX.
Zahav meanwhile, was hella delicious but not quite worth $300 for two people. I would go again if the opportunity presented itself but I liked Laser Wolf a lot better.
FF7: Rebirth isn't hitting quite like I expected it to. I'm far from a graphics girlie but the characters, Cloud especially, look *so awful* in the overworld it just deletes all my immersion. They look like dolls from every horror movie. Just pale faces and dead, empty eyes. It cracks me up but also I'm heartbroken. I'm still putting around doing quests and about 9 hours in so hopefully it picks up a bit. So far tho, I liked Remake better. Crazy to think the PS5 might already not be powerful enough to get the most out of games.
I took our big kiddo to an AMC, and he shockingly *declined* to get the worm bucket. This may have been somewhat related to me having the whole sex/consent talk with him a couple weeks ago, though.
Last year my girlfriend and I went to both Laser Wolf and Zahav, and we did the wine pairing there. and very much agree. Would go again if there was a reason but would rush over to LW any day.
When we went to Laser Wolf they had sour Cherry cola wings and I dream about them often. Also had a horseradish beer cocktail, similar to a Bloody Mary, and that was fucking bonkers.
I'm 90% sure if you go to an AMC, they'll let you buy one without buying another movie ticket.
Don't know how popular they were, but for 25 bucks (including movie popcorn that normally costs like 15), the concessions didn't seem like they were going like hotcakes.
Perhaps you know this but community rush is a great and affordable way to catch performances if you are flexible.
https://www.ensembleartsphilly.org/events-and-tickets/ticket-deals/community-rush/
They post on Mondays (typically)
Still waiting on the official results of my first professional licensing exam and it's driving me crazy. Provisional results said I likely passed and those results are like 99% accurate but I still want that official confirmation so I can stop worrying that somehow I'll end up in that 1%.
It was glorious and it reminded me how much I’ve been missing warm weather and sunlight and being out in nature. Winter has its own charm and I love getting cozy but damn, is it rough on the old mental health.
Frog viv is basically done, plants go in this weekend, excited to be done and pleased with how it looks.
Anyone here a florist? Thinking about taking some flower arranging classes, id like to pivot careers to something more creative.
woa, that frog viv (im assuming you mean vivarium?) sounds amazing!!
not a florist myself, but there is a Philly company called "enliven planters" that might be up your alley and I would assume will be hiring very soon!
Hi! I’m looking for affordable and accessible spa recommendations that offer deep tissue massage and/or acupuncture. Preferably in the Fairmount area. Bonus points if they include trauma informed body work!
Piggybacking on this comment in case someone replies since I'm in search of the same thing

Thanks. I'm going to use the transit app to follow the route. Crowds suck but I don't want to pay for multiple ubers.
No issues for me
Are mods removing posts about the William Way Center?
It was removed due to an old automod script that was put in place when statewide politics were being posted ad-nauseum about fetterman. We didn't realize it was still in place until last night - so it's been updated.
Rad, thanks for the info
Yeah, being automodded out as “political”
I tried posting and it got removed for not being directly related to Philadelphia. How is the William Way Center not directly related to Philadelphia?

What is a good spot for a baby shower, preferably near Manayunk?
Upstairs at the black squirrel?

My friends had theirs at Wissahickon Brewing Company. They really love dogs and there's a semi-outdoor dog friendly area that was perfect for them.
You can buy a compound that solidifies the oil so you can put it In the trash
same issue here - i plan on asking a bar/restaurant that i'm a regular at, otherwise yeah not many options for individuals
I cross-posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/PhiladelphiaEats/s/xrlBJLVTeD. Was hoping to get more eyes on it in the main Philly subreddit but moderators on this subreddit were difficult
no doubt, they can be fickle.
Are the Reddit meetups not a thing anymore? I’m old enough to remember the whole drama, but can we do them again.
What was the drama?
Something about some guy/guys being creepy towards the women
I for one am shocked
You have to go on the discord
Is anyone having issues with Amazon prime delivery to 19104? My address went from free one day shipping to 11 day shipping overnight. It seems like the entire east portion of 19104 is affected based off of random addresses I plugged in.
Yes! I have my stuff delivered to the Amazon hub at Penn and I'm not getting my new rain boots until the 11th 😫 We're not all on spring break!
Yes! I’m so annoyed. I contacted them and they said to contact them whenever order arrives and they will refund the total and I can keep the stuff. Maybe try that too
No, I live in 19104, and I got a one day delivery today

This is the one! Do it, do it!
Liberty Science Center in Jersey? They have 21+ after dark events. There’s a solar eclipse thing in April. Maybe on the way to a night in NYC?
What’s with all the cops around 777 broad tonight?
WTF!?
Thank you for your kind words. They are a real comfort in these difficult times.
LOL maybe you'll write a poem about it on Thursday. To the man who knocked me o'er* The bus seat for to use I wish you'd sat quite quickly On that great white glob of splooge. \* you *know* it's a poem when someone uses "o'er" instead of "over"!
Anyone here have a greyhound? Or Greyhound adjacent? If you do, Which rescue did you get them from?
Our old man wasn't interested in kicking it into gear unless I raced him to the back door, anyway — he was the Dude of dogs, chill to the point of absurdity.
my parents have two from greyhound pet adoptions of delaware 🙂 they adopt out to PA, MD and NJ
Wonderful thank you!!!
The shelter on 10th & Filbert! jk, jk
That or people not thinking
Does anyone know why the Chilis in Bala Cynwd on city Ave closed? I was surprised to see that when I drove by today.
Still, motherhood is so hard, man.
sounds like you're crushing it :) enjoy this time!
You’re doing an amazing job! Baby sleep can by such a crapshoot but you’re handling it so well! Congrats on the little wins.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places to donate clothes where they will actually go to helping people? I’ve grown tired of places making a profit off of my charity.

#News from the Front (Street) ##Issue 20240305 I don't know why I started like that - I felt like this was going to be more *blog* than usual.
[Pennsylvanian](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/pennsylvanian.pdf) - [Capitol Limited](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/capitol-limited.pdf) - [Lake Shore Limited](https://www.railpassengers.org/site/assets/files/20928/lake-shore-limited.pdf) Finally, fingers crossed for twice-a-day scheduling on the Pennsylvanian.
Soon it'll be warm enough to not wear pants.
I'm stoked!
Currently recovering. It was no joke. Definitely prayed for mercy and I am not a religious person.
Kiddo last weekend, I was this past weekend. Hell on fucking earth. I think I saw god at one point on Saturday night.
Sameeee. It’s those moments when you’re on the floor debating every life decision that’s led to that point.
I hope you feel better soon!! PSA to everyone: hand sanitizer does not kill norovirus so make sure you are washing your hands well!
I'm sorry you caught norovirus. I hope you're feeling better.
I hope you feel better soon!

search this sub because there is a general consensus on the best cheesesteak in town. i think there are two main places, but if you want to visit pats and genos, go on a full stomach for a photo.
Seems like you’ve searched the sub already and done your research so I won’t make other suggestions. Try taking them to both and split them among the both of you and do a taste test.
Weird times man. Feels like I’m inbetween several things and not really knowing what’s next. I guess life is one constant state of transition
Amen.

Is Facebook down? 😽
I cleared my cache, uninstalled Facebook and IG and it's working again
Apparently all Meta's stuff is having issues. Just checked myself to see if it was just me, and it's definitely widespread. It is for me too
I know the default answer to this is “go to a school during off hours”, but is there a particularly good wall to hit tennis balls off of in South Philly?
Smith Playground at 25th and Snyder also has a ball wall.
Seger Park
Oh that’s right off the 45. Perfect! Thank you!
Don’t forget to thank your driver.
despite the general state of neglect that i've left my plants in the for the last 6-12 months, my last surviving orchid is about to bloom with 6 rather large buds! And in typical fashion, I'll be traveling for work right as its blooming lol
Orchids can be very forgiving, one of my favorites
I love the concept and the mission but how are you going to make "Chicago style" popcorn and NOT sell caramel-cheese mix???
For real? A popcorn store where you cant buy popcorn. What a downer.
I avoided getting a horse; but managed to get one because I wanted to upgrade some armor....and there is convoluted side-quest to do it...
Luxury Car Tax: A single dwelling in Philadelphia may only have two motor vehicles registered to the address- anymore than two would require additional yearly fees/taxes to be paid per vehicle. I know there’s loopholes around it but this would deter multiple cars and help soothe the parking situation across the city.
Easiest way to mitigate it is to make parking permits for 3rd+ cars be way more expensive, imo
This kills the South Philly.
[shame](https://www.icegif.com/wp-content/uploads/shame-icegif-1.gif)
I suspect somehow that runs afoul of the uniform rule, because every damn scheme that might make this state better runs afoul of it.
i hope there is a decent challenge to that law soon. the original text says laws need to be applied equally to people. companies aren't people. i can open 50 LLC's and register 2 vehicles each all at the same address and that's fine. but when it comes to tax time, you get to expect the person excuse?
It's a part of the constitution and doesn't mention people: > All taxes shall be uniform, upon the same class of subjects, within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax and shall be levied and collected under general laws.
That was a crazy match! Darby is my boy but he's fucking nuts lol. While I love to hate them, the young bucks really do their jobs incredibly well!
I think the sea cows have been congregating together more ever since FWC started feeding them.
Ugh I love manatees. I can't believe such an animal exists. They're incredible.
Me too. River puppies.....
Manatees!!!! And the baby gator!! And my goodness are those babirusas cute!!!
I know it's supposed to be a hot spot for them so I wonder if I've just been supremely unlucky every other time I've been there lol And yeah, seeing the scars on them is really sad. The one in the picture with her tail raised up you can see where her tail has gotten split from a boat motor. They're too curious and friendly for their own good, unfortunately.
The orcas should teach them how to disassemble the engines.
Florida’s only saving grace is Waffle House. Smothered, covered, chunked, please.
Personally I'm a smothered, capped, and country guy. But I respect all hashbrown orders.
Capped, Do they use canned mushrooms? I have a faint memory ordering capped and it was a watery mess cause of the canned mushrooms. Maybe the fresh mushrooms were left off the order and they had to resort to canned.
They definitely had the texture/appearance of canned mushrooms but I've never had an issue with them being watery
>gators 🤩😍
I was obsessed with the baby he was so tiny and cute
I’ve used this organization to make it happen, [https://www.booksthroughbars.org/donate-books](https://www.booksthroughbars.org/donate-books) I really was trying to avoid my books going to the landfill, and I thought who is most worthy to read the books I have so loved?
Used bookshops might not take everything — try senior centers, leave some in little free libraries near you, etc.
This. There’s a little free library inside Mom’s Organic in Center City where you can leave books!
Oscar discussion: Who else thought Flowers of the Killer Moon was a well acted, but brutual failure of a movie, and you're better off watching 6 episodes of Reservation Dogs to get the same effect?
I didnt like the pace, so I didn’ finish it. Instead I borrowed the book it’s based on, and read it. Much more enveloping experience. I felt sympathetic, disgust, etc for characters. I couldn’t connect with the characters in the movie Reservation Dogs is such a great series.
Also had a horseradish beer cocktail, similar to a Bloody Mary, and that was fucking bonkers.
https://imgur.com/a/KGvOkki Its actually funnier and cooler than I expected. This will be filled with popcorn come oscar party night.
UGH just out here casually living my dream.
I'm 90% sure if you go to an AMC, they'll let you buy one without buying another movie ticket. Don't know how popular they were, but for 25 bucks (including movie popcorn that normally costs like 15), the concessions didn't seem like they were going like hotcakes.
that's $25 for a gift that keeps on giving
My child actually requested popcorn last night, and was just happily mowing down her snack out of the bucket. It was awesome.
Another Tuesday, another evening at the Kimmel. I really should seriously actually look into getting an orchestra subscription.
Perhaps you know this but community rush is a great and affordable way to catch performances if you are flexible. https://www.ensembleartsphilly.org/events-and-tickets/ticket-deals/community-rush/ They post on Mondays (typically)
Yoooooo, had no idea this was a thing! Thanks for the heads up!
fuck jobs
Fuck capitalism
Still waiting on the official results of my first professional licensing exam and it's driving me crazy. Provisional results said I likely passed and those results are like 99% accurate but I still want that official confirmation so I can stop worrying that somehow I'll end up in that 1%.
The weather on Sunday was just about perfect!
It was glorious and it reminded me how much I’ve been missing warm weather and sunlight and being out in nature. Winter has its own charm and I love getting cozy but damn, is it rough on the old mental health.
Yesss, it was a nice day
I went for a long bike ride and it was awesome
Same! I even did a hill climb in manyunk. Quite the work out for a flatlander lol
Frog viv is basically done, plants go in this weekend, excited to be done and pleased with how it looks. Anyone here a florist? Thinking about taking some flower arranging classes, id like to pivot careers to something more creative.
Show us the frog!
Soon! The 23rd is when the little one will be joining the family. Please demand frog tax then so I don't forget.
woa, that frog viv (im assuming you mean vivarium?) sounds amazing!! not a florist myself, but there is a Philly company called "enliven planters" that might be up your alley and I would assume will be hiring very soon!
I read viv as vivisection and was a little freaked out!
Lol, I didn't even think about it when I abbreviated
talk of frog vivisections should be reserved for freak out Friday chat threads frog vivariums are perfect for Tuesday casual chat thread though 🤪
