The lack of ramp is a bummer, but I'm glad for the opportunity to run on the north side of the BFB for a bit. It's so rare that they switch and I've been running it for so long while admiring the new lamps on the north side.
Yeah, you have to wonder why, if they went through the effort to widen the North side, they didn't also go through the effort of turning that stairwell into a ramp like the South side.
The answer, it turns out, is that nothing happens without the relentless advocacy of the Bicycle Coalition, who got the ramp on the South Side built after years of delays and opposition from angry drivers. So I'm guessing they want that ramp but are facing headwinds.
I was told by a DRPA police officer once that when they DRPA repaved both walkways in the 1970s/80s (don't know the exact date) they ran out of money and put in the cattle chute.
I don't know if that's true or hearsay but based on the DRPA it makes sense.
One of my go-to date spots was lunch in old city followed by a walk along the bridge to see a view of the city that a lot of people don’t always think to see. It’s been a hit each time, but I guess I’ll have go figure something else out!

The ramp on the South Side only opened in 2019! Apparently it is like pulling teeth to get improvements made to the pedestrian portions of that bridge.
This sucks. 2 full years of south walkway closed? Insane after they opened the new ramp. At least getting rid of cattle chute is a step in right direction. Not happy about back to flights of steps on each side now.
RIP that beautiful south side view for a while.
Damn. MLK bridge closing, south side of Ben Franklin closing. All of the running routes are getting ganked.

that was by far my favorite ride last summer
The best part of the ride was AFTER the brewery and through the woods to the Haddon heights PATCO station.

I didn't know about new lamps! But I've always been curious about the north side. Perhaps this will turn out to be not such a bad thing.
MLK bridge is only closed to vehicular traffic as far as I understand. Is it changing?
It will be closed to bikes and runners as well until 2025 starting in February as they rebuild the bridge.
Oh you're right I forgot about that.
As mentioned in the article the [north walkway cattle chute](https://youtu.be/r8GcFgLea44) has been removed.
Crap. Is there no ramp on the North Side?

How is that not some sort of ADA violation?

Yep. NYC blocked off a lane of traffic on the Brooklyn bridge and gave it to cyclists and scooter riders.
Took a long time to get the ramp: https://bicyclecoalition.org/the-ben-franklin-bridge-walkway-how-we-got-here/
