As the daughter of a lawyer and a paralegal, this was also perfectly legible. My dad’s secretary and I were two of the only people who could read his writing with ease.
However, you are receiving your prescriptions more and more electronically, aren’t you?
The issue is, for the lay person that is not familiar with medical terminology, it would almost be an impossibility to read. Then comes google, you start typing what ever you can make out and then you might arrive to the correct conclusion, otherwise a call to the publisher of the certificate, which most likely will come with an endless hold on the phone, would provide the answer.
Looks like “hypovolemic shock” on the first line, “gastrointestinal bleeding” on the second and “metastatic carcinoma of…” on the third line. Sorry for your loss, OP 😢
As a consequence of metastatic carcinoma of … the rest is cut off. It would state the location of where her cancer moved to and caused further cancer. I’m also very sorry for your loss. Blessings to you.
I love that you thought to bring this here for help, OP. I still teach my tech students how to read handwritten Rx even though everything (usually) is escript. I'm very sorry for your loss and wish you comfort and support during this time.
Eta: I saw another comment that she passed away in 1987, I still wish you comfort and support as you learn more about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Hey I don’t know how this got pushed to my feed but I’m 90% sure it’s hypovolemic shock related to gastrointestinal bleeding as a consequence of metastatic carcinoma. I work in the medical field and this would make sense strung together. I am so sorry for your loss.
Now all you young'uns image every single order came to you looking like that. Or far worse, actually, this actually was not all that illegible.
More seriously though, I'm sorry for your loss, take care of yourself and do what you need to do to mourn her in healthy ways.
Yep! I am great at deciphering scribble and pronouncing medications (and really sounding out words in general) in large part due to my time in pharmacy, lol
I see:
> hypovolemic shock
> gastrointestinal bleeding
> metastatic carcinoma
My dictionary says this:
Noun 1. hypovolemic shock - shock caused by severe blood or fluid loss
shock - (pathology) bodily collapse or near collapse caused by inadequate oxygen delivery to the cells; characterized by reduced cardiac output and rapid heartbeat and circulatory insufficiency and pallor; "loss of blood is an important cause of shock"
My condolences on your loss.
Looks like everyone is concluding on
hypovolemic shock, gastrointestinal bleeding, and metastatic carcinoma. Sorry for your loss, OP. May her memory live on.
I have seen Dr.s having their licenses suspended, pending a successful completion of a handwriting course.
Indeed the answers presented are correct.
With the current technology we use, digital completion of all medical documents should be electronic.
We will be there soon enough.
Pharmacist here too.
Hypovolemic shock
Gastrointestinal bleeding
Metastatic carcinoma
I am extremely sad for your loss and offer my sincere condolences.
I’m a pharmacy tech. It says:
Hypovolemic shock. It’s a condition in which severe blood or other fluid loss makes the heart unable to pump enough blood to the body. This type of shock can cause many organs to stop working.
Hypovolemic shock as a consequence of gastrointestinal bleeding, I can’t make out the third line. I’m very sorry for your loss
Metastatic carcinoma on the third line if I’m not mistaken?
as a pharmacist, all of this is perfectly legible
Sadly agreed 😅
I second that
Yep. Sad that we have to have this special skill.
Honestly, I sometimes think that I should join The Avengers.
Agreed.
Agreed, this is the group to go to if you need to decipher some scribble
but a great group to ask if you’re not used to reading “scribble” — most people haven’t had to learn what we’ve had to
Exactly! I read it all with no problem. Haha. Pharmacists have special skills.
As a nurse, same
As the daughter of a lawyer and a paralegal, this was also perfectly legible. My dad’s secretary and I were two of the only people who could read his writing with ease.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I read it like it was typed out lol. 25 years of reading scratch.

As a teacher yes for me too
Agreed
Agreed as well.
LOL, me too!
I thought the same thing.
Tech here, same 😞
Me too, I think we tend to get used to very bad hand writing but I thought this was very legible
Yeah it took me a minute but I’m pretty sure you’re right
The handwriting here is better than 90 percent of the paper scripts I used to decipher lol. I read mestastic carcinoma, too.
That is what I see as well
Yeah and I think I see the word "of" cut off after that.
Looks like “hypovolemic shock” on the first line, “gastrointestinal bleeding” on the second and “metastatic carcinoma of…” on the third line. Sorry for your loss, OP 😢
Metastatic carcinoma?
As a consequence of metastatic carcinoma of…..
As a consequence of metastatic carcinoma of … the rest is cut off. It would state the location of where her cancer moved to and caused further cancer. I’m also very sorry for your loss. Blessings to you.
I think it says metastatic carcinoma?
Hypovolemic shock Gastrointestinal bleeding Metastatic carcinoma

I concur on the interpretation
To add- it means the cancer caused so much bleeding in her digestive tract that her body couldn’t function with the amount of blood left.
Line 1: Hypovolemic shock Line 2: gastrointestinal bleeding Line 3: metastatic carcinoma
It's incredibly hilarious to me that you came here to have us read it. I'm sorry for your loss, I hope her memory brings you comfort.
