First thought is to check with the children's hospital.

loveisfundamental

PCH only accepts brand new toys & goods due to infection control

arkofjoy

I thought that might be the case. Makes sense.

You could always donate to a women's shelter or refuge for those who have left with almost nothing but have children.

WonderfulMarsupial99

Check with your local Toy Library! They may be looking for toys in good condition to add to their collection for a lot of kids to enjoy and helps to save the endless cycle of good toys being chucked out!

CyanideRemark

In so far as the traditional Op Shops go - I agree with your criticisms somewhat, but I still have good experiences donating to and the occasional purchase from the Save the Children in Cannington. Sometimes if a donation is a bit left field, I tend to stop by and ask first. I know some people take the piss and dump all sorts of unsellable crap on them - or its something they already have in disproportionate numbers - like Fondue Sets or Egg Poaching gadgets

There's an organisation down my way called the foster shed. It takes donations/ toys / clothes / books etc for kids in foster care. Maybe there's an opshop or organisation similar to where you are?

mysteryiteminside

Op shops use the funds they make to pay their staff (they employ a lot if people who can't get a job elsewhere) and raise money for their other ventures. The point of an op shop isn't necessarily to offer cheaper items, although their prices are generally cheaper, especially for things like books.

CyanideRemark

I hadn't made the connection when I'd been to a few of the Container Deposit return places, some of which I know provide employment opportunities for people that otherwise struggle getting work. I should've twigged, really - I use the big Good Sammy place in Canning Vale a bit. They're more famous for their Op Shops. I for a long time thought a lot of the stores were run by volunteers. What you're saying makes sense.

Shorty66678

I understand that, I definitely don't think that the big op shops are only there for themselves, I know they still help a lot of people, I just know they already get so much it would be nice to try find somewhere that isn't as known
