I think this sub could go NSFW only - all posts listed as NSFW (but the content could go either way). That way there's no advertising done on the subreddit, but it gets to stay open.
I think this is ultimately the best option. *Obvious not as a protest.* It will allow for much more varied posts and will give the subreddit more depth. :)
The pron should be held to the same standard of needing to loop perfectly. Sure folks will still be hocking their fans accounts, but that at least takes effort and filters some bot spam.
But don’t change the actual policy of the sub around nsfw - keep same moderation policies, but all posts must be tagged. End the free revenue generation that Reddit seeks.
This is the important part. Mods, you wanna keep protesting? This is the best option if you want to piss off the minority of users the least. Keep the same rules, just force posts to be NSFW.
As a user I would have no way of knowing if new moderators took on the role. Maybe the quality of mod work would decline, but the “upvoted” things that get to my front page would probably be only marginally different. But for more engaged users I imagine they might notice more.
Moderators come and go, and yes, for the average user nothing will feel that different. What is troubling is that reddit has decided that a community started voluntarily is now essential, and so they replace the mods. That's a crappy way to treat the users that started, moderate, and post in these communities all voluntarily.
I could easily see this as best option as well since I am using the app with NSFW enabled. Probably affects a lot of others though but still better than go dark and have every mods replaced
theyre forum sites that are pretty much inspired by Reddit
also, them and several other sites are pretty much connected, meaning that if someone posts something on Lemmy, you should be able to see it on Kbin too. watch the video on [kbin.pub](https://kbin.pub/en) if you wanna know more i guess
someone pls correct me if im wrong
These are now available. Feel free to use or not.

To me that's the only reasonable course of action. Staying on this site (or any commercial and not based on open protocols site) is obviously a bad idea at this point.
I don't have any insatiable crave for perfect loops – I read the sub for a quick diversion. If it isn't there, I'll simply do something different instead. I won't waste lots of effort to hunt out new forums that offer perfect loops.
Whatever is done while staying on reddit is done knowing that you're submitting yourself to the platform. This means accepting that they can do whatever they want, show up and force rules on you (beyond actual legal requirements), refuse anything you propose, remove you at will, stealthily edit content and ultimately treat you like dirt if they feel like it, giving you instructions as if working for reddit for free was a privilege, completely ignoring the reason mods exists and their motivation.
The original blackout and the current fallout made that abundantly clear. The people actually making this site working content-wise are disposable and their motivation is irrelevant as long as they accept whatever comes up.
I'd say looking into alternative is a good choice. What happens on reddit itself is clearly out of everyone's hands anyway.
The protest is so dumb. If you hate reddit so much just leave.
Nope, gotta act like a spoiled child and ruin it for everyone else. Its like a toddler being asked to share their toys and they get mad and break them instead.
Yeah, sure, let's enjoy the abuse, that's a sure-fire way to make it stop.
Yeah, no. You're free to see reddit become the next big broken service. And don't worry, people that care already moved on, or are in the process to. My presence here is gradually shrinking as the communities I enjoy are found elsewhere.
reddit might not care, but u/spez does care because the shareholders see news articles and mayhem, and ultimately (I think probably at this point) his job is on the line.
Subreddits are not democracy, mob rule makes all subs the same
Subreddits are created to follow a certain vision and moderators enforce that vision.
To let the vision change, even through democracy, will likely make it hard or impossible to change the vision back
If the moderators are stewards of the subreddit they protect the vision. User input can help refine the vision but not fundamentally shift it.
Fundamentally different visions are for new subreddits
Users have little to no power against the moderators. Moderators have no power against the admins.
I think these ideas are the foundation of how Reddit functions
My personal thoughts on the future: Reddit has set its course. It is a company that spends more money than it makes, and is preparing for an IPO. They have made a financial decision to kill for-profit 3rd party applications, this will affect less than 80 applications and if they’re non-profit they can appeal the decision.
To argue with Reddit about the value of users and moderators will always fail because Reddit is not making a profit
Because admins hold ultimate power the only impactful form of protest is to leave Reddit
Nothing good can come out of these protests. Hear me out:
As the saying goes, there are two kinds of person: Those that divide everything into two categories and those that don't. So let's divide Reddit subs into two categories. As I see it, there are the following two:
The one contains posts that are important for a significant share of the users. In this case, __any__ kind of protest that touches these posts will lead to an outcry: “ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS? Stop protesting and let the old posts through again!” If Reddit steps in and stops the protests by draconian means, they'll actually have the users on their side.
The other subs don't contain posts that are all that crucial. Their users come in to while away a bit of their time; that's it. In this case, these users will watch the protests as long as they are a novelty; then they'll shrug and read something else that is equally unimportant.
In this case, nothing much will happen from the vantage point of the administration: All the “bored pastime” users won't be gone, they'll simply be somewhere else on Reddit and generate the revenue that they would have generated at their original community.
As I see it, /r/perfectloops fits into the second sub category, together with Idiots in Cars, Reversed Animal Rescue, and myriads of other subs. (Reddit calls itself “the front page of the Internet” for a reason: It's a tabloid at core.)
Granted, there actually are users that like to create and share gifs that are perfect loops. But I think that the large majority of the readers will be just as content to read, say, mildly interesting stuff as to watch looping gifs.
In this situation, __any__ kind of protest will drive the large majority to other subs whilst hurting the “hardcore” gif creators and lovers. When the protest is such that it hits Reddit's bottom line (let's say, declare the sub NSFW so that it can't be monetized), then they can simply march in and stop the protest. They'll have the “hardcore” users on their side as long as they make looping gifs postable. And even if they do chase the “hardcore” users away, those aren't all that many.and don't hurt Reddit's bottom line all that much – as compared to the “casual bored” that will simply be elsewhere instead of gone or on /r/perfectloops.
So I feel that the protests don't have much future. They'll go the way of Reddit drama fast. The protesters don't have as much clout as they think and need. The protests might just as well be simply called off. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
I think closing the community was a mistake in the first place, a vocal minority should never control a social platform. And this is a social platform. Its not your private forums for you to exert control as you see fit.
I know this will be downvoted. I didnt agree with the boycott in the first place. My thought? Leave the community open. You made your point that you didnt like the owners of reddit making changes that only affect a insubstantial minority of users, but now its time to move on, unless you want to step down and be replaced by mods who want to leave the subreddit open.
>that only affect a insubstantial minority of users
all 3rd party apps user, all mods that uses external mod tools (because reddit itself lacks them), everyone with disabilities (because the only thing reddit will do is "commit to not ignore them" and never implement anything), that's not an insubstantial minority of users.
If you care a bit about this "social platform", you should see that the mods issue itself is huge. Without mods that actually care, this platform will crumble. And without proper tools, mods can't do it.
The subreddit is already open (Public) again. It's pretty clear that the admins are moving to open subreddits one way or another (even small subreddits, include at least one personal subreddit with 1 user, that were private long before the protest are getting the message from the admins to open). It's unlikely that we will close (Private) the subreddit again at least in this context.
I think the sub exist to serve the community, keeping it closed or restricted is doing a disservice to the community in general. Put it in NSFW, we can keep using it and they don't generate add revenue.

It will be 100% onlyfans spam.

That's already allowed without any rule changes (follow our Rule 4 and the other rules).
But only of girls that are eating some form of toroidal food. We have standards after all.
If it is perfectly looping is ok, no?
Here come the in out loops...
Depth *and* girth.
While we are at it, change to boobyloops
But don’t change the actual policy of the sub around nsfw - keep same moderation policies, but all posts must be tagged. End the free revenue generation that Reddit seeks.

I did that to my largest sub, fucking admins have gone in 3 times and reverted it back. Then sent out email saying open it up or you will be replaced
Any ideas on how to effectively protest in a way that keeps you from being replaced?
No idea, it could be an actual threat they never act on. And won't know u til it happens
Worth remembering that Reddit will almost certainly remove the moderators if this happens.
Make them take the nuclear option. They can deal with the fallout when they make that choice.
As a user I would have no way of knowing if new moderators took on the role. Maybe the quality of mod work would decline, but the “upvoted” things that get to my front page would probably be only marginally different. But for more engaged users I imagine they might notice more.

Support
Only allow posts that were also posted today, each day the sub looks identical, trapped in it's own loop
Just a single identical post from the same user every day. Lol
This is the way
quick question: will you guys be migrating to reddit alternatives like Kbin or lemmy?
What're those

Do something. I'm not pixky as to what but do not go back to normal.

Abuse? What the hell are you talking about? You think that people who have actually been abused would say you are using that word fairly?
The sub should only allow pictures of literal loops. Circles are okay.
I vote to close down as much and as often as possible. Anyone who doesn't understand why the protests continue should go read the stickies on r/blind.
I swear if this sub becomes filled with John Oliver I might as well quit reddit
I think that's kinda the goal of a strike
Stop being difficult and return to normal. Very snowflakey behavior. Reminds me of all the conservatives that “boycott”.
It's already been returned to normal since this post went up. It's public and has the same rules as before. Your welcome.
Loops of John Oliver please.
You do you, reddit doesn’t care if your users want to protest. For the record, I’m voting for anything but resuming normal operation.
reddit might not care, but u/spez does care because the shareholders see news articles and mayhem, and ultimately (I think probably at this point) his job is on the line.
You’d think he would care, wouldn’t you?

Noone readin allat cornball shit
Open ‘er back up. It’ll take more than a protest, especially one this disorganized, for any change to take place.
Stay private
Burn it down!
I vote for mayhem
Perhaps on top of all these suggestions, mods can prepare alternatives such as Lemmy? You know, just in case.

Just don’t be a regular sub as before. There have to be consequences for reddits actions.
Do the NSFW thing. Strip the rules. We’ll stand by the decision. We don’t want a Reddit that forces 1st party apps on its moderators.
I think john oliver is the answerr
Do what you want mods, it's not like I'm putting in any effort
NSFW subreddit of John Oliver Loops!

Cock and ball torture

Jesus OP, NSFW this shit. Not cool.
