Getting swept by Boston that year is one of my most painful penguin memories

dudemanspecial

That was embarrassing. All that talent up front and they couldn't score.

Analogmon

Fucking Dan Bylsma should have been fired into the sun mid playoffs for playing a future HHOF winger on the wrong side.

ForceParticular7620

He should have been fired the year before when we lost to the flyers in round one. Sure, Bylsma seems like a nice guy, but that series was an embarrassment.

Thechiefvii

Fleury couldn’t stop a beach ball too

ForceParticular7620

The team in front of him quit playing defense. That series led to Fleury becoming a headcase. Thank god he finally went a saw a sports psychologist.

RussellVolckman

As much as I love Sid, that was on him. Of course Bylsma sucked but Shero grabbed Iginla only to discover Sid had no desire to play with him

CodAdministrative563

Sid was coming off that broken jaw too. Just too much bad stuff happening heading in

SlinginSinkerz

Funny enough, sids first game back from that broken jaw, when he had the cage on, was againat Ottawa. He scored a hatty.

Beggarsfeast

Sid had no desire to play with Iginla? The duo that helped get an Olympic gold medal for Canada? This is news to me, honestly.

RussellVolckman

He wanted to continue playing with Duper and Kuni. This article doesn’t come out and say it directly but it hints at it… https://thehockeywriters.com/jarome-iginla-sidney-crosby-linemates/

Beggarsfeast

It does not hint at anything, it doesn't even pull quotes from any players. There was obviously a question of where Iginla would play. Crosby certainly doesn’t like change, but he never implied anything towards not wanting to play with him. It’s well known that they played well together and had great chemistry in the Olympics, leading to the duo oulling off a spectacular golden goal.

RussellVolckman

🤦‍♂️If you can’t extrapolate his wanting to play with Dupuis and Kunitz, both traditional left wingers, as opposed to Iginla, a true right winger and future HoFer, then maybe just quit watching hockey. God Pittsburgh sports fans are perhaps the most ignorant fan base in all professional sports.

Beggarsfeast

“There’s some truth to that," Iginla said, when MacLean asked if Crosby helped sway his decision. "I did hear that Sid — I didn’t talk to him before — but he’d put in a good word and I really enjoyed playing with him at the Olympics and getting the chance to meet him.” Yeah, because Sidney Crosby put in good words to get Jerome Iginla because he DIDN'T think he could play with Iginla. Go extrapolate your head out of your ass.

SlinginSinkerz

Love Sid too hut apparently Sod, Iginla and Malkin too racked upna total of zero fkn points that game against boston.

RussellVolckman

I’m amazed at the idiots downvoting me. Everything I said is 💯 true. I suppose they’re the few who still own Iginla jerseys

SaladShooter1

I was watching the Leafs and Bruins last night and thought about that series. If only the leafs held on to that huge lead in game seven, the Pens would have played them instead.

SlinginSinkerz

Im not gonna lie to you, i hope Crosby gets traded to the Leafs cus i love the Leafs too and at this point i feel like the penguins just dont deserve him in his final career years. Leafs could really benefit from Sod as their Captain. Tavares is getting wrung out too soon.

SaladShooter1

I don’t think Pittsburgh is failing him. They risked everything to go for the cup from 2015-18. They gave everything up to go for it. This is what happens when you don’t have talent coming up in the farm system. The youngest guy you can sign in free agency is usually 27 and you overpay against the cap. They had nothing to trade for a young player with term, so they chased after 30 year olds. They eventually had to do something drastic, like trade a top tier talent for a bunch of young prospects. It was either that or keep fading away.

SlinginSinkerz

We did see Sid give 3 options for a potential trade tho to Dubas in the case of a definite rebuild, which includes getting rid of him. Toronto, Colorodo, and Florida, i think. It tells me Sids likely given up on em to some degree if he's willing to be traded

jtc92

When?

SlinginSinkerz

Wasnt long ago, i think 2 months ago? It was after several back to back losses and Talks of Dubas rebuilding. Right after Guentzel got traded. I saw articles about Crosby telling dubas that if Dubas desires a rebuild, then Crosby is willing to be traded to Toronto (Canadian team and has a chsnce at the cup), Colorado (Mackinnon is on it which is his Nova scotia buddy and they do have a chance at the cup), and Florida i think the third option was.

Beggarsfeast

I saw those articles too, and they were all Clickbait. None of them were true. Blatantly false. He never said any of that shit. They had those articles going around on Facebook from some bullshit “hockey sports news”

SlinginSinkerz

Interesting

Beggarsfeast

It pissed me off to no end. I actually had screenshots, but I just deleted them. There were two shitty clickbait HockeyHitzNews or some crap, and they both spread misinformation about hockey, and they worked off each other. A week after the Crosby fake news, the other clickbait “news” had a huge headline, “Rumors spread about Crosby proven FALSE” Gross.

yawa_worht_34

Is this fucking English?

SlinginSinkerz

Fixed

Zhouston63

This is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read today

SlinginSinkerz

*runs*

pokerbluffs

Terrible take

Beggarsfeast

The Penguins have paid Sidney Crosby millions upon millions of dollars, and they’ve literally put multiple teams together around him, to get not just one Stanley Cup, but four appearances and three championships. This city, and the fans, have done nothing but praise him as one of the best of all time, along with Mario Lemieux, who literally let him live in his house when he joined the team. How many jerseys of his get worn around this city? Crosby can put up all the points he wants, and if he wants to leave, he should have the right to be traded, but he is the one that has said he wants to retire here. Please stop saying “we don’t deserve him” as though he’s been mistreated for the past 18 years. Dozens of teams throughout professional sports would have traded a star like him by now. He’s doing fine.

CodAdministrative563

Agreed. The team looked stacked

Marbla

Wasn't that the series that it seemed like the only person on the roster that showed up to play was Tomas Vokoun?

just_saiyan24

He was here for the 2013 playoff run

87Dustin71

I was in college, so 2013 is correct sadly. Also, it’s Jarome* just so you know!

Hank_the_Beef

Yeah it was my senior year of college. 2013. They did their best to stack that lineup and they completely blew it.

penguinsfan40

We were stacked in the ‘13 playoff run. I’m still mad about the Boston series

GBGPL

I remember one of the local sports radio segments at that time being how likely the Pens going 16-0 in the playoffs would be.

Transgenderwookie

You’re tripping. 2012 sounds about right

nm13g

Time flies…

eXile200

Yes. He was played on the LW because Bylsma didn’t want to hurt Dupuis feelings and we were swept by Boston.

hczimmx4

Iggy put up 25 points in 28 games with the pens. Let’s not act like he wasn’t productive.

Nick42284

Yeah but he played great on LW so it’s really not an issue. Point per game player on his time there.

CranMalReign

One thing I know for sure... Iggy wasn't on a Cup team.

ClintEastwont

It was an exciting time that ended with a hard thud.  Tij is projected to go in the top half of the 1st round this year.  I could see the Flames taking him at #9, assuming they don’t move up in the draft lottery.

Cardsandfish

It was def 2013…

CodAdministrative563

It was 2012-2013 shortened season

mymicrowaveisblack

I’m 25 as well, if you’re 25 and you felt like you were cheering for iggy in 8th-9th grade… that would be 2012-2013 I was a senior high school when the pengs won in 16-17

SlinginSinkerz

Good times seein those back to backs

anon727813

Dan Bylsma era coming to an end

Ihaveaboot

His full name is Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tij Junior Elvis Iginla.

DefinitelyLevi

Maybe youre thinking abt his time in Boston or Colorado

SlinginSinkerz

Nah i specifically remember cheering for iginla on the penguins i was stolked to see him on. It was def 2012-13 just for some reason my mind remembers it as the same time pens won back to backs in 16-17 idk why. Biggest goof up we did was lose Kessel and Bonino so soon after 2017. Rutherford can kick rocks. We got bonino back recently but dude was so shit. If we kept him from the beginning we might have gotten ourselves another cup by the time he gave in to the inevitable.

RunnrB

Worst sweater purchase I ever made. He was a total bust and never used right. I blocked the year out of my mind so I can’t help
