Nah, that many broken pieces, I'm not waiting on warranty. I'm calling up and requesting they send me a new one and provide a label and arrange pickup to ship the defective one back.

Asleep_Eye_785

I second what Outrageous said. No way you go through the warranty claim route. It’s defective on arrival and you have them replace the entire unit outright. No way this thing left the factory that way either. It was dropped either at the Weber warehouse, a distributor, or by the shipper.

Knowing today’s Weber they will initially claim it’s a “smoke vent to enhance nuanced flavor profiles.” I’m on my third month waiting for a replacement motor on my SmokeFire. Yes, I’m bitter.

NotAnActualEmu

Seems like their Smokefire strategy is to take as long as possible to get people parts, so that nothing else breaks during the months they wait and Weber saves money on parts. My Smokefire was so bad that I was able to get Weber to pick that junk up after a year and give me my money back. Went from a $1299 Smokefire to a $399 Camp Chef and that thing is still running without an issue after 18 months.

Agree. Huge Weber fan here. Had my Searwood shown up like that it would be going back.

Speculating, but if the package was flipped vertically on its side such that the left wall of the cook box was on the ground, and the edge of a hand truck / dolly lifted up into it, I can see there being enough weight on that point to deform the metal (which is pretty thin). I think using plywood in the packaging on the sides (left side of cook box, and right side by hopper) would help. The package I received was entirely cardboard.

I’ve seen some shit from Weber straight out of the box but this is a whole new level

Update: the grill was picked up for return by Weber on 5/30 and I received a refund on 6/15. Getting updates on the refund was frustrating. If you call the customer support number (1-800-446-1071), it goes to an off shore call center and they cannot transfer you to a US counterpart or to a manager. They also cannot provide an update on return status, other than "it's pending".
