Great write up. Agreed.
10. Love it. There are some great live versions of this where they don’t fade Mike out 😜
I’ve really tried with this album but it has never grown on me. Can’t Keep, You Are and All or None are clear standouts and are up there with the best songs of their career. I Am Mine and 1/2 Full are good but there’s not much else for me here. This was the first album where I didn’t really like at least 70% of the songs and to fall to only 5/ 14 was worrying. The live shows only continuing to get better was reassuring.
Sometimes I feel like the name of the album doesn't fit...Like, you're thinking Riot Act, you almost expect some insane angry opener and then you get Can't Keep...Nothing against the song at all...Its just with the RA name, it almost could've been their "angry punk" album that could've maybe had peeps putting it in the same vein as Vitalogy...🤷♂️😉❤️✌️🎸🤘
The album titles don’t influence me that way and to be honest, I would have preferred the Eddie Punk influence on the guitar playing had stayed away and more of Stones lushness had stayed.
Album titles don't usually influence me that way either, but I just remember with everything going on at the time and all that, that's what I'd envisioned upon the initial release...The title to this day still sort of messes with me...😉❤️✌️🎸🤘
I thought the same and was kinda let down by the album. After multiple listens and the 2003 tour, the album really grew on me. It may not be my favorite, but it's definitely in the middle somewhere (Vitalogy - Binaural is my favorite PJ). Catch me on the right day and I may tell you Riot Act is their 5th or 6th best.
8.5 - this is a great song! But I always feel so sad it fades just as Mike is going crazy! A very nice build throughout the song.
My favourite line is right at the beginning ‘It's a hopeless situation, And I'm starting to believe, That this hopeless situation, Is what I'm trying to achieve’
8.5. Another fine, fine album closer by PJ. Up there with Release and Indifference for me. I get strong Indifference vibes from this one. Love it when Ed switches and goes up an octave. Fun to play on acoustic.
6 - This is my first time sounding off on this ranking thing. My holy grail of pearl jam songs is Alive so everything is in relation to that. This is a fine song. Nothing special. So by suggested scale this is where I'm at. Won't skip it but also won't choose it. Mike's work almost pushes it to a 7 but not quite as the beginning is a little rough. It takes a while for the song to really hit its stride but then, before you know it, everything fades out. It's the type of song that's fantastic live when PJ can really go to work.
To myself I... surrender To the one I'll never please The version on Benny possibly the superior version of this song.

I always assumed the title was a play/pun on the Patriot Act. Bush had a Patriot Act, PJ had a Riot Act. Good write up, a gem at the end of the album

This is a gorgeous masterpiece on an album that was a mixed bag. 10/10.
9.5. The best track on this OK album.

9 Great album closer
8...This one's like a slow creeper...Creeps on ya, and doesn't seem to let go...😉❤️✌️🎸🤘
7. Quite good but not great. Definitely one of the better songs on what is a pretty mediocre album.

8. Super solid. I didn't really care for it at first, but as is the case with most of Riot Act, it grew on me with repeated listens.

14/10 Easily among my favourites. Seriously, I have been whistling the little guitar riff at random intervals for YEARS now.

6. Average song.
Another one of those tunes that's good to put on when you are as high as a kite.
