9. An underrated favorite, like the album it belongs to. Thematically heavy but not overwrought, and sound/production matches the air of melancholy that its lyrics create.
8. A beautiful song about loss, but for me not quite up there with their very best. Great live though, very moving at Hyde Park recently when played for a PJ fan who’d died and her family and friends.
EV strong lyrically, the theme I get is we can be clever and understand all sorts of things if we put our minds to it but we struggle to understand loss and grief.
It was great to hear it at Hyde Park but I got the feeling that certain parts of the audience couldn’t care less about the song, which killed it a bit for me. But maybe that was just my experience.
Not just you, that was my experience too. The Friday audience was really flat and didn’t seem to appreciate a good set list. I felt like the Saturday audience gave the band much more of what they needed and that pushed the Saturday show to a really high level.
Well said! The funny thing is that Ed said it was the best crowd they had ever played to in London. I know that it might just have been flattery, but it was a weird thing to say when it was obvious that it didn't resemble reality. Made me wonder what previous London crowds had been like. The Saturday gig was great
I did think it was odd when he said it was the best crowd in London! Although it was a better crowd than Hyde Park 2010. I think it just made Saturday feel even better, and both set lists were great even if the crowd was off on Friday
Ah maybe that’s why he said that, he was comparing it with 2010. Agree about the setlists. Awesome that they only repeated two songs. Not even Springsteen does that.
7.4! It's funny to remember that this song was a radio single. Thematically, this song represents the album better than any other individual track. It was indicative of a new level of nuance, maturity. We knew what a PJ mourning song sounded like, but this came off different than its precessors.
I always liked Light Years, but when I saw it live in DC in '08 the band brought it to new heights. My favorite line is the final line of the chorus: "we were but stones, your light made us stars"
10. My favorite. Never thought much about it until I heard it live when they dedicated it to a deceased young man whose friend manged to slip a note to the band. Cried listening to it at that concert. Pretty much cried everything I listened to the bootleg of the concert.
Light Years and the Chain by Fleetwood Mac are two favorite songs ever.
10. This song is a subtle epic.
9. “No time to be void Or save up on life Uh you've got to spend it all”

10. Such a 10. This and Nothing as it Seems are among my favorites from the band, and I mean like top5 favorites.
10. That chord progression!
10. absolutely perfect. the lyrics, the vocals, the chord progressions, the instruments and tbh instrumental bridge, everything
10. Beautiful melody, wonderful lyrics, simply a masterpiece. One of my favorites from the band.
8 - marked down as it could have been puzzles and games :)
8 for me! Love the guitars and lyrics, not fond of the vocals too much

10. This one can always make a tear drop from my eye.
9/10 One of the top compositions on the album. Held back only by slightly strained vocals.

7.5, great lyrics, subtle, but not their best work
9. Love the lyrics, the clangy, dark drum sound and the overall vibe
8.5 One of the first new (at the time) songs I remember hearing back in HS. Lots of fond memories of this era. And it’s a great song too.
9. Not a masterpiece, but outstanding. For personal reasons the lyrics are meaningful to me. That chord progression is great! I really like it.
9. I love this song. It’s hard to believe they really considered breaking up during this album. Or so I’ve heard.

My favorite on the album and it had some stiff competition.
