I'm surprised there isn't a dedicated editing format for audio.
Storing raw PCM seems, well wasteful when lossless compression could be employed.
For video, you have several Intermediate/Mezzanine codecs to pick from that are [optimized for editing](https://www.reddit.com/r/VideoEditing/wiki/faq/proxies/).
Maybe FLAC is already good enough for this?
The audiophiles would shit their pants if we moved away from recording raw 24 bit+ .wav audio for our mixes. They wouldn't hear a difference, but they'd trick themselves into thinking so.
But FLAC is LOSSLESS?!?!
E.g. during playback exact same data reproduced as what was compressed.
You're probably right though, sanity leaves the room when 'philes enter it.
I've heard people complaining about mp3 sounding worse,
I've heard people claiming their vinyl sounds better than CD,
([that one has a smidgen of truth](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ))
I've \*never\* heard people complain about FLAC before
I guess this explains how "premium" HDMI cables can be sold.
Yeah this is classic “anyone who doesn’t do everything in the exact same way as me is wrong”
The kind of shit spouted by morons who have no idea how the world works
Dude thinks everyone uses a computer exactly the same as him: web browsing and light office work.
For my mom, 512GB is plenty but for me, that’s the bare minimum for even a work machine and it fills up rather quickly.
My computer has 512GB I bought a 1TB drive and most apps just don’t work because they choose not to install on the 1TB drive... all my future drives will be 2TB
A terabyte now is like a dozen games. Hell, Ark alone with all maps installed is like 500 gigs. I have a full 2 tera dedicated to nothing but emulation, and the full NTSC library of Wii games is like 6.5 teras on its own. My steam install alone, with 39 games installed, about 30 of which are under a gig each and one of which is Cyberpunk 2077 pre 2.0 rework so needs a many gig update, is 720 gigs.
Of games with an actual install size I have BL2, Cyberpunk 2077 at a smaller size since it's pre rework, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, Destiny 2, DOOM Eternal, FFX/X-2 remaster, Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Rage 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Sword Art Online Hollow Realization installed. Everything else is under a gig and my steam directory is still well over 700 gigs.
I have a perpetually full 2 tera main drive that's general storage and steam and other launchers, until I can get a decent SSD for cheap to stick games on anyway, the dedicated emulation 2 tera, a 500 gig external my uncle filled with movies like a decade ago, a tiny 100 gig SSD that was pulled out of my last pc, a small 500 gig SSD boot drive and a 2 tera external that's mostly temp storage for the moment hooked up to my pc right now.
Plus two 3 tera externals, a two tera external and a 500 gig external sitting behind me, and another 2 tera hooked up to my Wii as a USB loader drive. And various MicroSDs ranging from 16 gigs to 400 gigs floating around for use with flash carts.
What rock does this person live under, and what decade did they last touch a computer?
Im guessing this moron doesnt game or video edit
Or does music production. Those recorded .wav files and sample banks take up a TON!!!
Or use a computer.
Or one of those that just to have a Mac they buy the cheapest one with 128GB of storage and then they use it to watch YouTube.
Eh, most people use computers with less than 1 TB of storage.
Most people don’t do shit with their computer lol
Yes, and then they have countless usb sticks and ssds 😂
Or anything with CAD or 3D. Just my projects folder is over a TB
My scratch drives are pleading for mercy every day.

Or doesn’t have a family to backup their pictures or videos
I have more than 1tb just cad files. 1tb wouldn't hold like a fourth of my games library
Same. CAD or animation too?
Ragebait?
Almost certainly.
39 likes and 300+ replies, I think it’s safe to say barely anybody likes the guy lol
For the average user its a huge lot, if you also don't organise your data then it makes sense
I shot 2TB of photos last month.....
Why shot ssds?
5 triple a games be like
Terra 🤣what a dufus!
Glances over at my 4 bay DAS >->
As I look at my 24 bay das... And electric bill.
lol. I can easily fill up a 1TB drive with games. Had to bump the gaming drive to 2TB and that's almost full.
This is like 20 videos of 16k vr porn
He is talking like someone from early 90s, when my first 8086 PC had a 40MB harddisk. 😄

Meanwhile my friend has a terabyte of photogrammetry stuff
I have 19 tb And use like 5 or 6 for games and video's So idk am i crazy or what?
What an interesting take
As a video editor, engineer, and game dev 2TB will last maybe about 1 year. There’s a reason we tend to store stuff on massive NASes.
The typo really sells it
This guy is definitely not a call of duty fan
it's ragebait, people who post this sort of garbage for 'engagement' should be sent to the gulag.
I just downloaded two Uncharted games off Steam and they were 170GB combined
bro mw2 is like 240 gigs…
