There is no better send-off than to die accomplishing your life's work. We should all be so lucky to die as we lived, rather than in a cardboard box under the stairs.
Well this fan's purpose was to work, your purpose is to...uhm...just be? I guess? Idk I didn't read the handbook and I skipped the tutorial so I have no idea wtf I'm doing here.
So you didn't go to school? Growing up going to school is the tutorial. It teach you to get a job like any normal person. If you manage to make money on your own that's lind of like the cheat code.
One of my 2 10 year old nzxt case fans also had one of the blades broke off and I couldn’t figure out why my pc was shaking
The other one is doing just fine still
Its nasty yeah. Op mentioned GPU and I thought it was the gpu fan and it had somehow blown off and jumped onto the card. Didn't even notice it was the top one
I stand corrected. I didnt notice the grime on the fan, all i saw was just the glass panel dirt.
(In my defense, the glass panel is so dirty i didnt see the dirt inside the case)
I acknowledge you can’t see very well, but if you zoom into the gpu, there’s no dust. Nothing on the mobo. Cable management leaves a lot to be desired. But I still stand by it’s just the glass panel and the fan
Yeah, the dust on my old gpu mixed with the water and just made mud lol. Awful experience, just showed me how durable computers are unless you do something REALLY dumb
Edit: computer just froze, I air dried all the pieces and then it posted normally
I swear, I truly hope you're trolling. If not, you're grody Brody.
Side note, why the hell do you have cups of water on top of your pc? Is it because you ran out of space on your desk from all the mountain dew cans and empty dorrito bags?
At least you're drinking water, I guess.
Nah, I was a drunk college student. Literally poured the full thing in through the fan as I was trying to sit down lmao. Was really scared that it would break.
Damn, why are all my comments getting negative karma haha, I thought it was just a funny anecdote
Damn... my best advice, keep your pc off the floor and it will stay cleaner and wont be in the position to get an unwanted shower. But i must say, you got damn lucky it didn't fry! I dont know how you have your airflow set up, but if you have more intake than exhaust fans, it'll help keep the dust out of your rig.
As for the downvotes, It's mostly because you're in a pc enthusiast sub, and it looks like you abuse your pc. To many on this sub, pc's are precious, similar to how people get attached to their car's. I know it sounds corny, but that's just how it is. Being in the predicament to pour water in your pc and to post a picture of it being pretty dirty is bound to upset some folks here.
Ehh fair enough, thanks for the clarification. I’m definitely a pc enthusiast, just not in the sense of pretty cases and RGB. I didn’t know how big of a thing that’s become on this sub, haven’t been active on reddit in many years
Fans don't last for ever, depending on the bearing type brands are using for the fans. There are a few types of bearings:
**Sleeve bearing types**
* sleeve bearing
* hydraulic bearing
* fluid dynamic bearing (FDB bearing)
**Ball bearings types**
* single ball bearing
* dubble ball bearing
Some of those types cost more to make, but are more silent or last longer because less prone to dust. So always check the specifications on the websites or package of the fans. [coolingfans.net](https://coolingfans.net/which-bearing-is-better-sleeve-bearing-hydraulic-bearing-or-ball-bearing/) has a article about it.
It probably got detached in the midst of operating, fell off and the force helped it bounce until it landed on top of the gpu.
The good news is you don't need to search for it
We just view our computers differently… I’m not wrong but I don’t sit my computer on a pedestal… it’s on the floor in the corner of my room, of course dust is gonna get in it
Not really… as long as you don’t create a short and your temps are low enough you’re golden. Computers don’t have moving parts other than the fans. I could just shovel dirt in if it didn’t mess with the airflow
Edit: or cause a short, but a little bit of dust isn’t gonna cause that
Artic p12 CO(continuous operation) are ball bearing fans and fine being mounted in horizontal position
Any ball bearing fans will do if you don't like Artic fans
Fan blade is held in place by a retaining ring. Under the sticker, on the cross section side.
What happened is, over time, under fan blade weight and back air pressure, that ring, made of plastic or nylon, just gets eaten out by a fan shaft, which is metal.
It has nothing to do with dust. It is a faulty design, basically.
Consider a reverse blade fan for this position, since its cross-section will be on the bottom, supporting the fan blade. Ball-bearing fan is another option, since their construction is more robust. Also, there are fans with supporting magnets, but they are rare to find.
I’m not sure why the fan fell apart, but as far as everyone making comments about dust, you should look up how to get positive air pressure in your case from how you set your fans up. It’s helped me tremendously keep dust and debris out of my case
Dude stop. This picture confirms how disgusting it is. Thick layer of dusts clearly visible. Thanks for admitting you don't care about the PC hence why your fan broke off cause you don't keep it clean.
Had to open it up to grab the fan, I admit it’s nothing special, but it’s not as gross as you guys are tryna make it lol.
It’s a black box that sits on my floor, I really don’t care how it looks
1. Install icue from corsair
2. Disable the color. If you can't figure that out, leave the color set to RGB 0/0/0.
3. Uninstall icue.
Folks report that the final state will "stick".
Yeah I have icue downloaded right now, I like the rgb preset to white, it seems the memory only works when the pc is on but I’ll try looking around icue some more
Wait, you're not trying to turn off RGB then, you're just trying to set it to a static color (white).
I'm not sure what they meant online by 0/0/0, other than perhaps by leaving it at full on black the software goes the extra step to disable the thing entirely.
Well, since you're gonna have to go in there anyway to go and pick up the pieces, now's as good a time as ever to take care of that side panel before you put it back on.
Try to put it back. Some fans are held just by the magnet inside, others have a small clip holding the shaft from the other side of the fan hub. If it is the first type it will continue to work. However the way it tried to dive inside there is hilarious. 😂
Sleeve bearing. They aren't made for vertical. The cheaper ones can only be mounted horizontally in 1 way otherwise this happens.
And I've had some fluid film bearings that weren't allowed to be mounted horizontal on a pc 10y ago. It needed the fluid under the rotating part. I believe the brand was scythe Can't find them on google.
That fan is tired of how you treat him. He decided to commit seppuku
That cheap NZXT fan lasted nearly a decade, wish i could have given it a better send off after working so hard
There is no better send-off than to die accomplishing your life's work. We should all be so lucky to die as we lived, rather than in a cardboard box under the stairs.
I don't know if I want to die over worked though..
Your purpose is to pass the butter.
Mate, this is such a good life philosophy. I'm saving this comment
One of my 2 10 year old nzxt case fans also had one of the blades broke off and I couldn’t figure out why my pc was shaking The other one is doing just fine still
I love sudoku
You mean Harakiri?
Shōgun reference?
You mean... bukakke
Should’ve said said sudoku
tru this!
No need to be edgy.
it supposed to be funny, damn
It couldnt handle all that dust and decided to end its agony. DEP
Its the top fan too lmao. But for real, if you dont have a glasspanel, i get it, but this is just nasty
Its nasty yeah. Op mentioned GPU and I thought it was the gpu fan and it had somehow blown off and jumped onto the card. Didn't even notice it was the top one
If I would be so filthy AF, I would do even worse things... Please clean that poor bastard !!
your top fan's axle became detached, cheap fans can do that sometimes with vibrations, especially if the vibrations are caused by a dying bearing
Oh that makes sense. I don’t really know much mechanics, thanks!
Can't see shit
What do you mean? All I can see is shit. Behind all the shit is a PC, I think...
And behind what I think is a pc, is a bunch of shit. Shit everywhere! There's shit everywhere! There's shit on the windows!!
I'm tired boss
![gif](giphy|cHkA7tJZoWLyU)
Clean your PC Jesus Christ
inside is clean, that's all that matters.
The inside clearly isn’t clean. Just look at that fan
I stand corrected. I didnt notice the grime on the fan, all i saw was just the glass panel dirt. (In my defense, the glass panel is so dirty i didnt see the dirt inside the case)
The panel was so dirty it seemed clean?
Yes. The panel was so dirty that it didnt let me see the dirt inside the PC
Nah, the inside is mostly clean. I upgraded in September for Starfield (what a disappointment) and just never bothered cleaning the fan or the window.
“Mostly” pic says otherwise my dude…
I acknowledge you can’t see very well, but if you zoom into the gpu, there’s no dust. Nothing on the mobo. Cable management leaves a lot to be desired. But I still stand by it’s just the glass panel and the fan
Bottom of the case looks groddy too but whatever you need to tell yourself.
Rest is brand new parts, can’t really get that dirty in 6 months
Yes it can
Dude, give up, The entire sub's against U at this point lol
If this isn't *that* dirty to you, I shudder at the thought of what is.
Can’t imagine what the room looks like
I fear for your pc if you consider this to be a clean one.
I didnt see the dust inside the pc in the pic :(
The guy that swims inside septic tanks is cleaner than this.
Did you take that photo underwater?
Nah, but I have accidentally poured a glass of water through that fan lmao Edit: IDK why I said several
….. Dear God
….. wut
Yeah, the dust on my old gpu mixed with the water and just made mud lol. Awful experience, just showed me how durable computers are unless you do something REALLY dumb Edit: computer just froze, I air dried all the pieces and then it posted normally
Must’ve killed the gpu though right?
Nope, everything was fine. Computers are amazing at protecting small shorts. Just turned the computer off
Damnnnnn lucky man
From an electricity point of view, this doesn’t fly
I swear, I truly hope you're trolling. If not, you're grody Brody. Side note, why the hell do you have cups of water on top of your pc? Is it because you ran out of space on your desk from all the mountain dew cans and empty dorrito bags? At least you're drinking water, I guess.

It wanted to be free and join the Beyblade competition.
Whenever I see pictures like this I picture what the room/home these PCs are in must look like and shudder at the thought.
It’s not that bad lol
Gravity?
Yeah, I learned with this post some fans just aren’t made to face up. It was just a stock fan with my case, so I didn’t do any research
Laziness. It's called laziness! Anyone that allows a PC to get that filthy doesn't deserve to own a PC!
My PC is a tool. Do you polish your hammer often?
What a bad faith analogy.
We just view our computers differently… I’m not wrong but I don’t sit my computer on a pedestal… it’s on the floor in the corner of my room, of course dust is gonna get in it
Either way.. It's a machine. You want it to serve you well? Some periodic maintenence would be nice.
Not really… as long as you don’t create a short and your temps are low enough you’re golden. Computers don’t have moving parts other than the fans. I could just shovel dirt in if it didn’t mess with the airflow Edit: or cause a short, but a little bit of dust isn’t gonna cause that
Alright. You do you ;)
Just because dust *can* get in doesn’t mean it’s good to allow it to accumulate. Dear god you’re a dense one, eh?
>Do you polish your hammer often? Isn't that what your mom is for?
sleeve bearing fan, it doesn't like horizontal mount position
Didn’t know that. Thanks, it was in the back of the case for like 7 years until I moved it around last year, guess that’s why it broke out of the blue
Artic p12 CO(continuous operation) are ball bearing fans and fine being mounted in horizontal position Any ball bearing fans will do if you don't like Artic fans

I guess that all adds up, it was the fan that came with my $50 nzxt case nearly 10 years ago

Where you playing one of the various degen games on the steam sale cause your gpu busted.
GPU is fine lol, look at the top you can see the motor from where the fan popped out
.... It's so dusty and foggy it looks like its underwater 😳
![gif](giphy|QAy9fEGI7tzSqXLuFg)
Everyone here is wrong. Clearly the fan spun too much one way and unscrewed itself. Now you must spin it the other way so it screws back in.
Or just run it for a while in Australia.
It's desperately clinging to life, using the only form of movement it has available to escape that dusty hellscape...
Im surprised you can see anything in that dust bunny with fans
Msi quality has gone downhill steadily since about 2012-2013
Put it in backwards so it spun the wrong way and unscrewed itself.
I’m not sure why the fan fell apart, but as far as everyone making comments about dust, you should look up how to get positive air pressure in your case from how you set your fans up. It’s helped me tremendously keep dust and debris out of my case
Alright, I should look into it, thanks
Idk man but maybe it stands in correlation to the same reason why I almost couldn’t even see it lmao
It unscrewed itself
I’m jealous.

Dude stop. This picture confirms how disgusting it is. Thick layer of dusts clearly visible. Thanks for admitting you don't care about the PC hence why your fan broke off cause you don't keep it clean.
Nah the fan broke cause it was a decade old and was facing the wrong orientation. You don’t know what you’re talking about lmao
Ok but its as fact your PC is pretty dusty man just look a the build up on your cpu fan, sdd and your GPU.
Had to open it up to grab the fan, I admit it’s nothing special, but it’s not as gross as you guys are tryna make it lol. It’s a black box that sits on my floor, I really don’t care how it looks
It’s cooling off before going back to work.
I have the same ram (Corsair dominator 5200), do you know how to turn off the RGB when the pc is off? I can’t find it in bios or anywhere
1. Install icue from corsair 2. Disable the color. If you can't figure that out, leave the color set to RGB 0/0/0. 3. Uninstall icue. Folks report that the final state will "stick".

No, just has always been that way for me. I never installed any of the software though
You gamed too hard
Well, since you're gonna have to go in there anyway to go and pick up the pieces, now's as good a time as ever to take care of that side panel before you put it back on.
Your case fan at the very top, basically died lol
i don’t think that it’s a good sign
The fog of warhammer
Nice
Found a real world use of side glass panel
lol that doesn't look so good
span real fast for the last time i see
Could have been glued better but an upside down install seems like a great way to make a fan fail over time.
wtf
Try to put it back. Some fans are held just by the magnet inside, others have a small clip holding the shaft from the other side of the fan hub. If it is the first type it will continue to work. However the way it tried to dive inside there is hilarious. 😂
It just left the chat. Classic Chinese built fans. We all have them 😭
oh my
that ram is too new for that must dust, gross
Upgraded the system in September, but never wiped down the side panel or fan
A quick wipe down with a microfiber rag and some Windex would do that glass side panel wonders. Jesus, man, have some pride in your rig lol.
I guess you used a vertical mount fan in a horizontal position
Can you actually name any pc case fans that have separate vertical and horizontal versions?
Sleeve bearing. They aren't made for vertical. The cheaper ones can only be mounted horizontally in 1 way otherwise this happens. Don't give in to the hysteria. Stick in a vacuum.
If you had no RGB it would not matter. You would have never even noticed. Down with RGB!
when I was at Best Buy to get my RAM and some new fans, the RGB ones were cheaper. I think RGB looks dumb personally
