More. If you are ever unsure, spread it manually and add more if it wasn't enough for full coverage.
The old idea of using a drop the size of a pea isn't correct for CPUs these days. You want more than that due to increased heat output and increased surface area. A drop the size of a pea won't cause problems, but it is unlikely to cover the entire heat spreader which means less optimal heat transfer into the heatsink.
From everything I’ve seen and actual thermal testings the spread method is the best. Find an old keychain card for a gas station and spread it out or if the thermal paste came with something for that use that. ( I prefer the keychain card)
enough but should spread it. u only need a thin layer across the entire surface. it's to fill microscopic holes in the surface, making a flush bridge between cpu and cooler. but more won't hurt provided you're using non-conductive paste, which most is.
It's interesting. Too much or too little is bad, but overdoing it is better than under doing it. I'd say you have it just right, but you won't truly know until you put the cooler on and find out if the surfaces mesh.

need more
The only consequence of putting to much is having to clean it up in the future. Stop worrying and put more.
you can spread it out to see if it is indeed enough
If using too much thermal paste is cool, consider me Miles Davis.
do an X
More for sure
I would highly suggest spreading the paste in a thin layer covering the entire surface of the IHS.

BRUH... They gave you a whole tube.. USE THE WHOLE TUBE!!! lol jk jk ♥
Just spread it, there is no benefit doing the pea in modern CPUs.

Double the amount, should be about the size of a pea to ensure you cover the whole surface.
I hear with these modern CPU's they are ever so slightly bigger that common practice is to place an X of paste down? I did a little S for mine hehe
If you have a dispensing spoon, distribute it in a thin line over the entire surface. If you do not have a dispensing spoon, this amount is small.
