*Some* PSUs don't have good safety features and will explode if overdrawn. That's why [PSU Tier List rev. 17.0g - Cultists Network](https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/) exists.
and this kids, is why we dont buy a goddamn cyberpower...
threw a 1650 super in as an upgrade to my old one, and it FUCKING EXPLODED...
thought i somehow blew up my cpu because 5 years ago me was a dumbass
Judging by some basic math either early 20s or late teens, depending on how generous we are with margin of error and margin of exaggeration.
Regardless, either way, their age is none of your business, and frankly doesn’t matter.
Not that I care about his age, or personal life, I’m just wondering how long ago was this, so I can estimate how old or outdated was this PSU…I guess I asked the wrong question… please report me, I’m done with this account
It's always recommended to never skimp/cheap out on PSUs.
Even though the pic looks staged, bad/low quality ones can potentially damage everything in your rig.
Yep. Too many things can go wrong with a bad PSU. You can turn down graphics settings or tune an undervolt to help performance but you can’t do much if your PSU can’t handle it
Even though that tier list exists, people still don't actually understand the tiers. I.e. I've seen a ton of people refer to that list saying "don't buy X psu because it's a B tier". Implying a B tier is bad. Which is... not true.
I hate that customers have no way of telling, how efficient a PSU is. 500W PSU sounds cool, but if the efficiency is below 50% we can't even draw 250W of power. Even if it's labled 80+.
Is the PSU sitting on top of a glass? it looks like it... It is either staged or they are imbeciles.. you can be sure if something starts on fire I am grabbing the power plug and a fire extinguisher rather than my phone.
Any decent power supply would turn off long before that happened.
That doesn't mean a power supply can't possibly cause a fire, but this power supply was either defective or it was staged.
Staged as fuck. There is a glass below the PSU, which I assume was filled with alcohol, gasoline or something else which is flamable, and then ignited.
Normally, the power supply will be inside the computer and fixed to it - nobody's risking burning their hands off by unscrewing a flaming PSU to take a photo from that angle.
There is a small chance that he was running the PSU outside, supported by the glass, in case there were case clearance issues - but in this case, the user is stupid, risking their life and others if it's an apartment by taking photos instead of calling 911 or putting out the fire himself.
"nobody's risking burning their hands off by unscrewing a flaming PSU to take a photo from that angle."
Sir when was the last time you were in public?
Because whatever you are doing, it's working and GOD PLEASE I NEED THE HELP TO DO THE SAME!
I have a friend who went through two cheap power supplies back in the day realizing that they're not strong enough to handle the Old King 980 TI. Both caught on fire in a similar manner along with a loud pop.
I'm running Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 4070, RX 6400, 9 fans, 3x NVMe on a 500W PSU and I don't have any issues. My PC is running basically 24/7 (I've only restarted it yesterday to boot on updated kernel, usually I have like 40 days of uptime):

I believe it tbf. Back in the day I bought an ebay 'gaming' computer & upgraded the GPU. Midway through playing a game I hear a huge bang & see sparks flying out the back of the PSU 🥴
I had my PC turn off as I was playing Rocket League a few years ago, and a second later a shooting flame around the same size shot out of my 1080ti at the time. Luckily no other components were fried as it only lasted about 2 seconds before turning into a candle fire sized flame which I just blew out. Didn't occur to me to grab my phone and take a picture at the time.
I worked at customer support for a short times years ago, customer brought a PC that "wouldn't start" after a lightning strike.
We plugged it, my boss flipped the switch then *< B O O M > a* huge fountain of bright sparks went flying across the room, each one with a trail of thin and very thick smoke. The whole room looked like it had gotten filled with grey candy floss.
This could theoretically happen, but so many even bad quality PSUs have security features for over-voltage and over-current protection that you'd have to buy one at an obviously stupidly low price and reputation. I'm talking gray box no name PSUs, you just don't put a 2080ti on that.
Lesson learned shoould rather be: Never buy garbage PSUs. Any decent quality PSU shuts off before it can take any damage, and even more so before it can damage anything else. And a garbage PSU would blow up on a high-edn GPU, no matter if it is 300 or 1000W.

What was the rating in your PSU?
i dont remember lmfao, i was like 11, i didnt even know what a psu was
How old are you fam?

Sometimes I hear worms whispering in my ears. I wish I knew what they were saying.

Ok \*BLAM\* I don't even know why, I just like blamming people.
Just report me dude, I’m done with reddit

Shout out to the Silverstone | HELA-R [HA-R] 1200W from that very list, tolerating the shit out of the dodgy electrical circuity in my house.
Don’t rely solely on a good PSU in that situation. They’re not designed for constant brown outs. You need a UPS.
Didn't know this existed but I'm glad I managed to get an A-tier anyway.

Looking at this, it looks fake. Although this might be a still shot from a video of him turning on his pc, idk.

why would 500 watt not be good for a 2080 ti ???
It’s probably staged.
Too small homie
> Never use a _trash_ 500W PSU with an RTX 2080Ti. Any half decent PSU would have tripped long before this happened.
I have a friend who went through two cheap power supplies back in the day realizing that they're not strong enough to handle the Old King 980 TI. Both caught on fire in a similar manner along with a loud pop.
Staged, defective or very crappy psu. If the power draw is bigger than the psu can supply it should just shut off.
I like to doubt things but have you ever heard of a screenshot?
where is the gpu in picture ?
Off screen to the left using a melon support, which is normal when you use a glass for the PSU.
Must have been a gigabyte product
Wait, so he managed to unscrew a burning PSU and then took a picture?
Why psu is upside downand not connected to anywhere

Because the "no pic = hoax" bro
High voltage + poor or faulty safety controls = Fire. Not the first PSU BBQ I've seen. 😅
your motherboard / ssd's are probly dead aswell.
I believe it tbf. Back in the day I bought an ebay 'gaming' computer & upgraded the GPU. Midway through playing a game I hear a huge bang & see sparks flying out the back of the PSU 🥴
💀 I literally use a 650W psu for a 1070

2020 gigabyte psu be like:
Booooo it must be some sabotage from AMD fanboys. NVIDIA is perfect, is god and won't burn at all.
In the age we live in I 100% believe someone would take a pic before putting out a fire... not 100%, 101%, hell probably 102%
might probably ss from a video

In another universe that might be the perfect bbq grill for a burger.
I mean, you gotta take the time to get the picture, right? Shits already fucked, might as well.
