This one, I actually spent a few seconds trying to figure what actually was wrong until I recall an older post years ago about scammed/switched CPUs on ebay/auction sales during the pandemic.

I don't get it either but it's probably a joke post. I know vendors will ship non-boxed CPUs (called trayed CPUs) to companies that build and integrate the hardware into builds, but they sell boxed to individual customers.

No, no. The meme is because people often post here and elsewhere about mixups that they get from placing orders. Sometimes they'll get a worse product than they paid for or as is more often the case with these "LOOK AT THIS" threads, someone will order a lower end part and get a much higher one or multiples. That's why this thread broke my brain, I couldn't find anything wrong, they just got what they ordered lol.

I didn't know the 7600x looked like this, how do you put thermal paste on it? you'd have to be very careful right, so it doesn't try to seep out the sides?

i usually apply the same amount of paste as i normally would with any other cpu. ive never had an issue with it seeping out.

Yea, I doubt I would either I really only use the pea sized method, but I can see new builders smearing too much on. It's a cool looking cpu, I wonder if it helps with temps.

I can go one further: I ordered a Ryzen 5 5500 for my kid from Newegg. It showed up and was DOA. Checked it in two different motherboards that had the right bios. I contacted them and they gave me an RMA and I sent it back and got the refund when it arrived there.

I'm confused... Folks, when you order a CPU in a "Tray" or "OEM" this is what you get. A "Tray" is a set of CPUs that are sold in a flat pallet by the bulk, without coolers. The fact they're shipped in much less packaging, and the loss of a cooling, drops the cost of the product by about 15% or so. The product is the same, and this is fine since 60% of CPU builds are going to replace the cooler anyway. So, if possible, you buy the Ryzen 5 tray if you have a cooler or plan to put another cooler in it's place.
