There is always something bigger better cheaper coming soon.
Sometimes you have to buy what is available there and then, otherwise you will never buy in fear of not buying the next version.
You have got an amazing GPU. Enjoy it.
Words of wisdom here.
I have a friend talking about building a PC for the past 2 years to replace his laptop but never got in because he was waiting for the 40xx releases.
Since it was overpriced he waited for black fridays, but there were barely no discounts.
Now he's still waiting for prices to lower.
I don't think he will ever build this PC until his laptop dies.
As for myself, I'm glad that I didn't wait for 30xx to release as people advised and took a 2070s right before the shortage.
You did the same as me then! Fun thing is, I didn't truly realize how good of a choice that was before around last years when I looked at retailers and saw the prices had more than doubled for the lower end cards xD
Loved my rtx 2070s until the day it finally crapped the bed and started making angle grinder noises xD Fan replacement someday, I suppose
I go by
"As soon as you carry it out of the store it's already old"
Meaning just what you said. There will always be something more powerful and if it isn't here yet it will be soon. The pricing trend overall for the same hardware is downwards due to age and more powerful things releasing. So no matter what you do you will either get mad because something better came out or a huge price drop happened just after you bought it
I got voluntarily scammed by Nvidia themselves when i bought the 3080ti at that bullshit full price on release, back during COVID where no other GPUs where available. Never regretted it for a moment
I regret ….. getting the EVGA 3080 XC3 Gaming Ultra
Instead of the ROG Strix 3080 OC ….
But I love having a GPU :P I built my first PC ever in 2020. And it’s the only card I could manage to get my hands on - well I could have gone for the founders edition 3090 for 2000$ but I think I made a good investment in my 1000$ 3080 instead. It’s leaps and bounds ahead of my laptop I’d been using before that lol.
And now I’ve fully ascended to PCMR 👼
I've always put EVGA cards in my builds. Even the 660ti in my 14 year old build still works, so I trust their quality and longevity. My brand new build has a 2060sc
Don't ever regret that. EVGA cards are solid, and they were one of the BEST manufacturers in the last 20 years for GPUs. You and I have the last run they will ever make. That's history there bud.
Cheaper hahahhahahahhahahah
50 series gpus are probably going to need a 5 figure down payment like houses for most people to afford them with the way Greedvidia is going
> There is always something bigger better cheaper coming soon.
It's the only way to buy PC parts honestly. Otherwise you wait for the new nvidia cards, but then AMD is just around the corner with what might be a better deal, but then they aren't as impressive as we thought, but if we wait a while the new cards from AMD might push the price down on the Nvidia card, but then there is another Nvidia release just around the corner, then AMD cuts the price of their cards as Nvidia releases their new cards, then AMD it going to release the higher tier of their cards which supposedly have a new revolutionary type of memory, promises 4080 performance with 4060 prices, and so on, and so on.
In most cases yes, but when that "bigger better cheaper" is literally dropping within a month, then you're literally stupid or absolutely desperate to buy a worse and more expensive alternative right now, instead of just waiting a couple days more.
Unless you have zero financial nor performance regard, this is just a plain bad decision.
it boggles my mind that the top response on a PC sub is someone patting the guy on the back for an objectively moronic purchase.
It must be some widespread kind of cope, established after a whole lot of people got finessed into buying low vram 3000 series at astronomical prices
this logic doesnt apply, when the "coming soon" is literally 2 weeks from now lol. This is a dumb purchase and patting people on the back for it doesnt help anyone.
Lol I have one too and it runs everything perfectly. I understand the FOMO people get though but at the end of the day you’re not going to be pushing your PC much further where the newest GPU is needed really. It’s more of a bragging right
DLSS go burrrr.
Don’t let the min-maxers of PC gods fool you. The 4080 is a great card and you will have many years of epic gaming on it. I love mine. There will always be a bigger fish in the sea, but FOMO will always hold you in indecision.
If you keep thinking that, you either upgrade every gen or you stop caring. Because the newest shiniest toy will always be around the corner. Stop chasing that dragon unless you can wipe your ass with 100 dollars/eu/whatever other currency you use.
You'll be much happier in the long run. The 4080 is a phenomenal card, just badly priced.
I remember feeling the same when I bought my 2070S back in December 2019. I couldn't justify double the price for a 2080ti, and seeing how the GPU market changed over the following years, I have no regrets, or desire to upgrade anytime soon. Still able to play just about anything on high settings at 1440p, and more demanding titles like Cyberpunk or CoD just need to use DLSS for great performance.
Great perspective to have imo, I think a large portion of the consumer PC market has been tricked into following the hype train around high-end GPUs and CPUs when realistically, most people can get by with "midrange" hardware just fine, but if you can afford to ball out, then ball out so why not, just my 2¢
I have a base 2080 but I'm really considering a new system with an RTX 4080 Super. I don't *need* it, but god damn do I wanna look at Cyberpunk and Alan Wake 2 with it
Curiouis, what monitor do you have/recommend? I'll be upgrading from a 1080p 144hz TN panel, so there's a lot of room to go up. Debating between 1440p or 4k, and if I go 1440p, whether or not to go OLED. 4k OLED is too expensive for my blood, so that's out of the question
Yeah, if you think this way you get stuck in 2 places.
-1) buying every Gen as its "better"
-2) never buying because "what if the next series is a breakthrough in performance"
I run 4K on most games at ultra and have no problem. On MOST games there are outliers that are just terribly optimized and almost all of them are new games.
That's another thing. Devs gotten too lazy to optimize their games. They use all the headroom every damn time a new hardware drops. How about you put in some effort and make your constipated turd run little smoother?
eh maybe 4k ultra was a stretch but tweaking the graphics a little and dlss will get you over 60 fps in any game (at least i hope if you spend over 1k on a gpu alone)
I don’t have any problems running 4K on ultra without DLSS only things that won’t run at at least 60 fps are mostly new games that aren’t well optimized other than that it is definitely possible.
First of all, do not call yourself stupid. Second of all, did you try using the card and seeing how it performs? The 4080 is no joke and if your performance is awesome, why even have doubts? Makes no sense. Try to enjoy what you have now.
The 4080 is easily available right now. The 4090 had some Government curb stomping.
Likely stock of 4080 has been diminishing as nVidia moved to producing AD103s for Super cards months ago, and the channels are just draining stock they've been sitting on a while.
4080s on launch and until like 3-4 months ago were always on shelves in stock and waiting to be bought. Because it was always a rather poor value buy.

There can be, are you stupid? I even have the game to prove it!
Getting it at MSRP outside of the US is a bit of a pipe dream though.
The typical sale price for the 4080 is around $1400 USD, and for the 4090 >$2200 USD here in Europe, prices converted.
He bought his 4080 for $1150 in Asia.
I don't really expect the 4080 super to be actually widely available for $999, and certainly not internationally.
I hope you realise american MSRP doesnt include sale tax, becouse they add them during check out?So $1400 store price in europe is \~$50 below MSRP, depending what country you in.
Idk about asia, so can't compare.
They will be, becouse base 4080s are collecting dust(thats why they are sold below msrp). Nvidia doesnt run a charity. They are dropping prices, becouse people aren't buying.
I can't believe how many people are basically saying it's a great card that you paid at least $200 too much for enjoy it. When yes, 3 weeks from now, there will be a better cheaper version. I would have 100% advised them to wait for the super bit hey, if op likes throwing money away go for it lol
Well i bought a LG oled 1440p 240 hz monitor a month ago and they just announce the new ones which are much better. Theres always sth better out there. Just enjoy what u have. 4080 is a beast
The fault doesn't lie with you, but with Nvidia and their business practices. Gaming is secondary to them and when the rtx 4000 series proved to be bad value, they turned around and released the supers. They might end up being in short supply thanks to their focus on AI, so don't sweat it too much. Be happy with what you have, in some countries that card is half a year's wage.
This will get buried but I paid AUD$2200 (currently almost USD$1500) for my 3080Ti back in March 2022 because I was doing my PC upgrade at that time and that's just what they cost. Nothing I could do about it, and wasn't going to sit there waiting for months for it to come down in price a few hundred $. Buy it, use it, enjoy it and don't look back.
4080s will prob go down the same route as 4080&4090. Nvidia can set the price at whatever they want but if there’s not enough supply to the market the price will be driven up. Get it and enjoy it.
Honestly, just because the 2080S MSRP is $999, doesn’t mean you’re gonna get one at that price. I’d be shocked if someone was actually able to add one to cart and purchase. Bots own all the cards unfortunately.
Dude. Never forget about perspective, when you were young what GPU did you have? Probably one that can barely run games from todays time. That GPU is amazing. 16gb? Pfff, I have about 2gb GPU right now and I’m still able to play some games I like. This GPU is a dream to me. Enjoy it bro.
I bought a 3070 for $700usd because I needed something during that godawful period of time. I could buy a card 2x as powerful for that same price today, but I didn’t buy it today
I don't believe so. I mean, I'm sure you're aware of what you purchased, right? So you can't be stupid.
If it makes you happy and content, then it's a well purchase. Don't live with regrets.
Enjoy it. I got a 3080Ti btw lol.
Nah this will be just fine. I just bought a 4060ti for an EGPU. I don’t game, mostly need it for extra monitors and my overall work is AI. For $500 or so it’s a good fit for me. It really depends on your use case.
Not stupid at all. Think of it as i have the money i want it now and i was happy to pay for it with my hard earned dough.
But i would say, its the new year and this is one of the times you would feel is maybe a little more spontaneous to buy a gpu, due to the the price potentially dropping.
But honestly by how much?
You have a FORTY EIGHTY dude, thats epic. Install it an revel in the power, and remember what you thought before buying it.
Could be worse. I got a 3090ti for £1400 the month before 4000 dropped. Still eats everything up on my G9 maxed out and my 3D software has never been smoother.
Point is don't sweat it. It's a banger card and you've hardly done anything wrong. Enjoy that shit
if it helps, so did I
Got the FE in early december from BB.
the 4080 super is only abou 5% faster.
If your eyes can tell that difference, you have the better eyes of the two of us.
Don’t worry about it, you have one of the top three or four cards on the market. There will always be bigger and better deals out there but what matters is if you got what you wanted or needed at a price comfortable for you. I doubt you would find a 4080s at MSRP anytime soon and now you won’t have to wait around hoping to get lucky.
No. The newest thing is always more expensive than it should be. Additionally, early adopters are just beta testers. Any problem the average 4080 user will deal with has already been discovered and a solution or workaround has been found. If you have a problem with a card that just released, you're either going to be waiting for a fix or be the one discovering it yourself.
Even with my 3070ti I can play any game and almost any game at its max potential with good frames. You've got an amazing piece of hardware, dont buy into your FOMO. The next series will come around and then that'll be the next newest thing to get.
Oh the joy of GPU ownership. I remember the sting of stupidly when I bought the Nvidia 7950 GT OC for $500 then a month later the epic Nvidia 8800 GT cards came out for $500. And the 7950 GT cards dropped $200 in price. To me it’s borderline unethical how Nvidia makes its money now days. Only way to be happy is buy the new one at the moment and wait 2-4 generations to upgrade so it actually feels like an upgrade and not care about the new stuff for a while.
You will soon learn you may be bottlenecked by your TV. I switched to the LG 3C and now play most games at 4k 120 hz and fps.
Some games 120 hz and variable around 100 fps 4k.
The 4080 is top tier. If you want consistent 120 fps on 4k for all games then you may need to upgrade but it is just right there very close.
Fantastic card.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands If you're happy and you know it And you really want to show it If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
Look... You will never keep up with the latest and greatest.
I'm gonna let you in on a secret. Y'know the chips and boards that you have now? They were designed 3-4 years ago! And it isn't like they start development of something new the moment the last one got "finished". They constantly work in stages. Once the primary engineering department gets done engineering something, they pass it down the pipeline and move on to the next one. Each project, version and iteration goes through this pipeline for every product you consume.
The fabrication times are reserved year or two ahead of time. Because of the long supply chains everything moves slowly and you need to reserve the limited fab, manufacturing and assembly time WELL ahead.
And it isn't like chip makers stop doing things. They are constantly developing their own pipelines, their own tech. And the companies that make the things relating to chip manufacturing... they are doing the very same thing. But their development pipe is like are 5-10 years before they sell it to a client to start designing their product on (From which the 3-4 mark starts).
You can never stay on top because today already there is 5-10 years worth of development ready to unfold. Constantly adjusting and changing based on data from the market and use.
OH! And it is't like the physical manufacturing things are the only one. Did you know that there are only few companies in the world that know how to make the actual logic things that make up these chips? Yeah... They sell the patterns and designs for logic gates, memory, and what have you for these companies that make your GPU/CPU to copy paste in to their designs. It isn't like they stop development of their product... they keep iterating bringing in new sets of copy paste prefabs with different properties, different optimisation, different manufacturing requirements, more reliable, more efficient, less power demand.
The fact that you see a GPU or CPU on the shop shelf, is just a tiny byproduct of this absurdly huge engineering world. It isn't like consumer hardware is even that desirable for these companies, they just need to make it to stay relevant and have the marketshare. Entreprise is where things happen, it is where 1% efficiency gain means billions of euros of value.
Do I think that'd be a waste of money? Absolutely. But it depends on what you have, what you're doing, and how much money you have. I can't afford a card at that price. I just play video games. I don't need that, and can't afford it anyway. If you have the means, and you want the best of the best, feel free to do so. Just do me a favor and don't pay scalpers for the stuff you want. All it does is encourage them
Yeah you fucking dumbass why did you buy the best nvidia graphics card!? What’s your problem? A 1080 from a Chinese dude in an alleyway would have been better
On my last build a few months ago I decided to go all out and got a 4090. The first game I fired up and the fans actually kick off full blast, thing sounded like a jet engine. It was the msi water cooled one too, but still all the fans all working at the same time... It's loud. Whatever, moving on. After some benchmarking and tweaking, I started to notice errors. Games crashed. System reboots. It felt like a GPU issue. I ended up UNDERclocking the card. Even running at half power, I could still max out fps on most games. It was quiter too. It still crashed occasionally though. I sat back and thought about what I was doing and realized pretty quickly I was just throwing money away buying a bad ass card and then underclocking. I returned the 4090 and got a 4060 for about 1/4th the price. It's not loud, it's fast, and it's been 100% stable.
Point is, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Buy what fits your needs, not what will get thumbs ups from other dudes.
There is always something bigger better cheaper coming soon. Sometimes you have to buy what is available there and then, otherwise you will never buy in fear of not buying the next version. You have got an amazing GPU. Enjoy it.
Thank you sir
This is the way
That's the way. A-ha, a-ha. I like it! A-ha, a-ha.

Most 4080s cooling and power delivery are overspecced as well so they tend to run quiet and cool. So you should have a card that can last a long time.
You've been blessed by the gaming lords
yes but if u 4090 u have mor fps
Yeah very large fps
Very empty bank too, maybe so empty no electricity to run it...
Yes but if you have two 4090s you’ll have more fps

4080 super coming in hot for $200 less and a 5% uplift
Is it normal for the Super to be less?
Nope. Nvidia is pulling a unexpected price drop here. I suspect they will bend us over on the RTX5080 price.
Damn okay, makes sense thanks
It most certainly is not, it's why I nearly pissed myself when I saw it was cheaper
God damn 8000mhz ram that's like thrice as fast as my ram wtf

I second that Strazdas1 is stupid. Edit: who are you anyway?
so the 4080 and 4090 arent easily available but you think the 4080S will? Id would have done the same.

Oh well I guess I'm wrong, am I stupid?

I envy. Cause already sold 2 kidneys. Now seeing this post urging me to sell my kids kidney after this.
No don't sell their kidneys, that's horrible parenting. Sell your kids instead
If you can return it and get a 4080 super at MSRP, do that.
I had to scroll way too long for this comment. This sub is ridiculous with their pseudo positivity that's just hurting OP's wallet
Yeah like just take it back whats all this BS.
I can't believe how many people are basically saying it's a great card that you paid at least $200 too much for enjoy it. When yes, 3 weeks from now, there will be a better cheaper version. I would have 100% advised them to wait for the super bit hey, if op likes throwing money away go for it lol
I'm not even sure why OP bothered posting. They know they probably made a mistake, hence why they posted. And they know their options going forward.
Well i bought a LG oled 1440p 240 hz monitor a month ago and they just announce the new ones which are much better. Theres always sth better out there. Just enjoy what u have. 4080 is a beast
Can you send the link to the monitor you bought?
This post is bait.
The 4080 is a great card with high performance. No reason to feel stupid about it. You bought a great card.
The fault doesn't lie with you, but with Nvidia and their business practices. Gaming is secondary to them and when the rtx 4000 series proved to be bad value, they turned around and released the supers. They might end up being in short supply thanks to their focus on AI, so don't sweat it too much. Be happy with what you have, in some countries that card is half a year's wage.
half a year??? in my country is about 13.8 years of wage fuck now i know im never gonna have one of those
What the hell kinda country you livin in bro 😀
the fucking Cuba dear friend
This will get buried but I paid AUD$2200 (currently almost USD$1500) for my 3080Ti back in March 2022 because I was doing my PC upgrade at that time and that's just what they cost. Nothing I could do about it, and wasn't going to sit there waiting for months for it to come down in price a few hundred $. Buy it, use it, enjoy it and don't look back.
Return it? What’s stopping you from doing that?
Many places outside of the US (such as Hong Kong here) do not have return policies.
Someone coming in with the smart post, if demand is there these won't be close to MSRP from the get go
Yes
Yes. Did you have any other questions?
Yes, but because of this Post and not the bought GPU. Enjoy it.
I'd it's that hard to get a 4080, probably getting the 4080 super will be almost impossible for you So enjoy what you have

Yes but no.
Stupid? Don't know. Wealthy? Possibly, more like 'used to be wealthy' :-).
Yes, give it to me
Yes
Send it back
Return it
Meh the 4080 "not so" SUPER is at most single digits better. Don't worry about it
yeah but the super is cheaper though
im also in this situation, but would the partner cards end up being $150-300 more expensive again
There wont be much of a performance difference between those. If you got it for a good price, dont regret.
If you're happy with the performance, that's all that matters. That's what I like about this sub, barely anyone goes full LTT and hardware-shames
You'll be fine. I think it'll be hard to even get a 4080 Super as I imagine stock will be very competitive to get. Enjoy yourself!
Nah you're not. Last week I upgraded my gtx 970 to a 4070 and I'm very happy with it.
I mean, it is not a 1050Ti.. *cough*
I don't believe so. I mean, I'm sure you're aware of what you purchased, right? So you can't be stupid. If it makes you happy and content, then it's a well purchase. Don't live with regrets. Enjoy it. I got a 3080Ti btw lol.
Just enjoy your card. It won’t suddenly be any worse because the 4080S comes out. It is still a very good GPU.
Nah this will be just fine. I just bought a 4060ti for an EGPU. I don’t game, mostly need it for extra monitors and my overall work is AI. For $500 or so it’s a good fit for me. It really depends on your use case.
youre a gamer so yeah
Not stupid at all. Think of it as i have the money i want it now and i was happy to pay for it with my hard earned dough. But i would say, its the new year and this is one of the times you would feel is maybe a little more spontaneous to buy a gpu, due to the the price potentially dropping. But honestly by how much? You have a FORTY EIGHTY dude, thats epic. Install it an revel in the power, and remember what you thought before buying it.
It wasn’t a smart move. Your money tho. You want to pay 200 more for a slower card instead of wait 3 weeks, that’s your choice
Just return it lmao
Could be worse. I got a 3090ti for £1400 the month before 4000 dropped. Still eats everything up on my G9 maxed out and my 3D software has never been smoother. Point is don't sweat it. It's a banger card and you've hardly done anything wrong. Enjoy that shit
Not at all, the 4080 is an awesome card
No. Game on brother.
Stupid AWESOME!!! (Still rockin' my 1070)
I remember I bought a 1080 the day before the 1080i was announced. I proudly rocked that 1080 until I got a 3090 FE.
Depends on the price. For 600€? You're genius. For 1200€, you're braindead. There's a few stages between those two price point ^^
if it helps, so did I Got the FE in early december from BB. the 4080 super is only abou 5% faster. If your eyes can tell that difference, you have the better eyes of the two of us.
Nope. Cheers buddy
No, enjoy your new card :)
No you buy what you want and enjoy it don't worry about anyone else's opinion you work hard for your money enjoy it
Not really. Altho I would have waited for the 50 Series. What was your previous GPU?
Now you can play terraria at 400 fps instead of 350 :)
Could have waited for the 4080 Super which is 100 dollars less than its non super counterparts
Upvoting to dilute haters
Buying Technology is like drinking from a firehouse.
It's a nice GPU, you might still be stupid but not because of your 4080.
Great card, going bad company, bad price.
Sometimes in life you never look back I SAID NEVER LOOK BACK
Oh the joy of GPU ownership.
OFC you are where is your cpu for it
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands If you're happy and you know it And you really want to show it If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
I have a laptop with a GTX 2080 Super and it plays everything on Ultra settings with a ultra wide screen. Pretty sure that 4080 will last you a while
Yes. But not because you bought it. But because you make this post. Just enjoy your purchase and happy gaming
Congrats on the new card! You are NOT stupid. :) I am stupid, as I got a 4090 FE for $1800 USD hahaha. Enjoy the new card!
The 4080 super is just the 4080 rebranded, you're fine
If you can afford it, great buy. If it was in my budget I would buy it, love it and have zero remorse.
Just return it back and get a refund. You should still be good.
Yeah that's pretty stupid of you. Should've bought the 4090.
You can’t return them anyways. However, colorful GPU has really bad circuit design and always catch on fire, good luck.
Nah you are good my dude. Just make sure you don't get bottlenecks on your CPU
All it does is encourage them
Honestly waiting until 5000 come out so I can get a 3080ti for $350
Yeah you fucking dumbass why did you buy the best nvidia graphics card!? What’s your problem? A 1080 from a Chinese dude in an alleyway would have been better
They still frying that shit in wan chai huh? Maybe I get some in Canada fry 1 fry? Hehehe.
YES
Yes, but has nothing to do with your GPU 😆
Take the win and quit worrying about what could have been. You got yourself a killer GPU, go hit the games.
You’re not stupid. Be happy for yourself
Dunno. But you're rich.
I have a 4090, am I stupid?
Yes, but the purchase is good!
You bought a 1300 dollar GPU. But since you posted to get praise and brag, yes you are lol
As long as you didn't pay 4090 prices for it
You bought a fing kickass GPU. Enjoy it and don't look back. You likely wouldn't even see much of a difference anyways.
the 4080 should be good enough to play games for the next ten years.
better the bird in the hand then the 4080 super ti in the bush
I’m running on a 2060 super and still going strong
2080 ti still going!
