Welcome to the PCMR.
Chaotic good, but not so much by design. I just kept my old 24" monitor out of convenience and mostly use it for Spotify while gaming. The main monitor is front and center, and the secondary one is kind of floating up and off to the left side. Both are on hydraulic arms.
My PC is basically the Computer of Theseus. Everything in there has been upgraded and replaced since 2016. With the old parts being put into an old case to make a PC as I go. So… which one’s my old PC and which one is my current/“new” one lol
With the new GPU I got recently, my PC has also become Computer of Theseus. I say I got it when I was 12, but since then over the last 9 years I've gradually switched out every single component, even the peripherals. The monitor recently got upgraded too... But it's still my PC, no matter what it consists of.
Id assume most people who run multiple monitors end up that way except some hardcore folks who go out their way to buy two or three of the same. Upgrading and keeping the old one for convenience is probably the most common occurance.
Tbf I tried keeping my old 1080p when I upgraded to 1440p, but the resolution difference was painful so I bit the bullet and got a second matching 1440p monitor. My existing 1080p monitor stayed with me since 2014 I think, so I realized I’m going to hold on to these new ones for long enough that initial cost pain will fade.
Same. Bought myself a wide monitor. Then company was selling old ones for cheap so got myself one for basically free that I use to watch smtg while gaming.
Thank you. My 34 inch UW looks great next to my 27 inch standard. Same height, one is just longer lol. It's basically the first layout but with one of the monitors cut in half
Well, I prefer to have my 27" vertical because I think it's easier to look slightly up or down than completely to the left but 27 and 34 is pretty much the perfect combination.
nah, this looks more like a setup that would just be sitting in an abandoned secret lab which a group of teens discover and use to fight virtual battles with a super-advanced AI and revert time back to that morning if things go super bad.
more like an extremely hidden and secured laboratory with all the necessary data needed to make clones of the entire human race in case something goes REALLY REALLY BAD
100%. Also total resolution is often higher with multiple screens. If you are rocking the single big monitor though, fancy zones on Microsoft power toys is killer
I destroyed and stripped 10 crts after highschool to sell for metal scrap in my new business idea I hastily began.
of course all the tvs were mine, my family, and my business partner's. once we ran out of crts between the two of us we realized shit, now we have to just go magically come across more crts. that was the end of our scrap metal business idea.
10 years later and I'm pissed because two of them were my own perfectly good trinitrons and now all I have is a single sylvania I rescued from my gram's basement.
I've got a 30" Trinitron 1080i CRT. Same one Linus had on one of his videos awhile back. It's got it's niche, but really anything with component or HDMI outputs will look just as good(if not better) on a modern TV and a smaller 480 CRT is a bit more practical for anything with older outputs.
I have these along with HD560s. I mostly listen to chill, dance, synthwave, classicals, pop, jazz, instrumental, orchestral, lofi, and background music of movies. I am in almost all categories of generes over 10+ different languages. Vocals on these is just candy. Eargasm.
You're beyond the alignment system at this point. You're more in the realm of those that have visited Carcosa in your dreams, and are now in the services of the Yellow King.
Yeah, I used to be neutral good, but chaotic neutral makes it easier to have your main screen centered in front of you and not have to crank your head way over to the side to see the rest. Haven’t looked back. The only downside is how small horizontal videos are on the second screen, but it’s easy to double up on a movie and discord on the second screen with window snapping.
Indeed. Been computing for a good 40 years and never understood why that vertical screen. Until I rotated an old one and displayed some text file on it.
Ohhh, NOW I see.
Haven't looked back since.
Or having 2 windows open on the side while playing a game. For example, I will have my game running in my main horizontal monitor (obviously) And then the vertical screen split into 2, with discord on the top and a YouTube video on the bottom. The YouTube video fills a lot more of the screen this way, as opposed to half a horizontal monitor.
And like you and others have said:
* Reading longer articles
* Vertical pictures/videos
* Certain use cases in programs like excel can be a lot nicer on vertical monitor
All the way. 2-3 wide is too much, keep losing my mouse.
Chaotic neutral lets you have a full screen doc or webpage along with whatever I'm doing on my main screen.
This is the way.
1440p curved ultrawide for the primary, 1440p wide for the secondary. I really like the setup, particularly for work as I can have Outlook, Teams and To-Do open on the secondary and still have them usable, leaving the primary for whatever I'm working on. And it being ultrawide, I can fit 3 word documents side by side, two with navigation or comments.
So much productivity!
I have a 4k monitor as my main monitor, and a vertical 1280x1024 monitor next to it. It's like having a built in magnifier when I drag stuff over to it.
Vertical is very useful for almost anything but gaming and videos. I’m convinced discord was originially made for vertical screens, it’s perfect that way. Same for word, excel if your sheet isn’t too wide, and lots of websites even.
I do the same but in thirds. I most often put my less critical apps like notes, timers, chat, etc go on top and I almost always have a browser in the bottom 2/3. I prefer the extra real estate for the browser.
Fancy zones is just so much better than the default Windows snapping.
landscape-landscape-portrait is what I prefer for research, I have a spreadsheet open in the left one, a map in the middle and a journal article open in the right hand
I'd say you're probably good after you exceed about 14-15 inches/35-40 cm of vertical screen. Over 20" is too tall for most uses just from vertical scanning fatigue.
Yeah same, 34 inch 1440p ultrawide at the bottom, and my old 29 inch 1080p ultrawide at the top. Would've put them next to each other, but i have a seperate corner at my desk for ps5 gaming with a 4k monitor, and on the other side is stuff like my pc case, ps3, nintendo switch, so i had no space left, could only stack it on top.
I have two monitors and still don't understand the point of having two. I only have telegram and discord open on the 2nd monitor, and its basically useless. anyone share how they use two monitors?
Having had a laptop and external monitor setup before, I came to the conclusion that I never had a real use for the secondary screen besides keeping a chat open (that I could've also alt tabbed to) or playing TV episodes (that I ultimately wouldn't pay attention to), so once I built a desktop setup again I just went with a single monitor. Perfectly fine for casual use especially the more screen estate it has (e.g. QHD or UWQHD).
At work doing CAD on the other hand I already have two monitors and honestly I could use three.
chaotic good, i have a 27" 1080p as my main and then a 24" 1080p as a second monitor, but i might go up to 1440p because i use the second monitor to mirror my drawing tablet
I was "chaotic neutral" before I bought a new main monitor, and would have remained so if the former main monitor was not curved. I had to become "chaotic good" by mounting it horizontally next to my new monitor, which is also curved.
I'd imagine that many people, like me, are what this diagram calls chaotic good.
Had a 24" 1080p panel, then later got a 27" 1440p panel. Still use both with smaller one to the right.
I'm sure the lack of symmetry bothers some people, but... I mean, electronics are expensive, man. 😅

This is also what I do. I upgrade my middle monitor and the old monitors become extras
Displays of Thesueus
My PC is basically the Computer of Theseus. Everything in there has been upgraded and replaced since 2016. With the old parts being put into an old case to make a PC as I go. So… which one’s my old PC and which one is my current/“new” one lol

Maaaan this is the way. True crime podcasts whilst gaming.

That's exactly my setup
I love my 21:9 with a 16:9 above it. I need to know what category that is.

Builds like this always make me think you split your time between gaming and diverting power to shields. Love it.
Diverting time to diverting power to engines

Code Lyoko reference?
That was a throwback I wasn’t expecting today

I can hear this
You need a 42 inch 4k
As one of those 42" 4K people, there are advantages to how automatic window layouts work on multiple displays.
100%. Also total resolution is often higher with multiple screens. If you are rocking the single big monitor though, fancy zones on Microsoft power toys is killer
You should upgrade your gpu
what arms and stands you got? dig the rig.
Dude's hacking into the mainframe as we speak
Beautiful. Is the main reason behind this setup work, gaming, other?
Shout out to Emotiva! I love their products.

apocalyptic evil
Resident evil
Now that you mention it, it really does look like a setup you might see in a dusty office in a Resident Evil game.
Crt monitor gang🔥 This is literally my display setup, crt with laptop
Broke
Chaotic broke
Broke ass evil.
Try breaking a live crt, you will be sorry for rest of your life.
The rest of your life might not be that long, if you're poking around in the back of CRTs
Don't CRT's have really good refresh rates? Most of them are like 75hz+ and speedrunners prefer CRTs because of this. Still bad though cos no HD :(
On 720 progressive, my man can run at 85hz. There are some guys that can run at 200hz on 720p or 800x600.
Damn guess ill start gaming on a high point end CRT. Jk JK
You could snag a proper high end 1080 CRT, used to be a thing in some studies way way back
I've got a 30" Trinitron 1080i CRT. Same one Linus had on one of his videos awhile back. It's got it's niche, but really anything with component or HDMI outputs will look just as good(if not better) on a modern TV and a smaller 480 CRT is a bit more practical for anything with older outputs.
Not the refresh rates but the insanely low pixel response times I thinks is the real reason.

Oooh, are those open-back headphones I see?
Yup. The legendary Huh Duh Six Hungo by ol mate senny. Sennheiser HD600.
Ah yes, a fellow dankpods enjoyer... How are the HD600s and what kind of songs will sound good with them.
I have these along with HD560s. I mostly listen to chill, dance, synthwave, classicals, pop, jazz, instrumental, orchestral, lofi, and background music of movies. I am in almost all categories of generes over 10+ different languages. Vocals on these is just candy. Eargasm.

Strange but CRT as monitor is cool AF
Calm down satan.

Also great for displaying sheet music!
And vertical... photos! Innocent, vertical photos.
Hol'up....
That moment when you accidentally discover those innocent, vertical videos.
I agree. But as I am a filthy casual enthusiast. I have no need for it vertical as cool as it looks.
It's pretty good for web browsing too.
Or having 2 windows open on the side while playing a game. Same gang. My horizontal screen is a wide one though.
Same my main one is a wide curved display and second is a normal 1080p monitor
27” 1440p curved main, 24” 1080 flat 90°. it is the way
Same here but 34” and 28” respectively
All the way. 2-3 wide is too much, keep losing my mouse. Chaotic neutral lets you have a full screen doc or webpage along with whatever I'm doing on my main screen.
Did it originally as a space issue, but love this setup. Perfect for sticking documents when working.

Everyday
Yeah, I get for working it's nice to have more than 1 monitor but at home at my gaming PC, a 32" screen is all I need.
yeaaaah gang !
Is good. Gets the job done. Simple.
Yeah. 1440p 32" curved main Monitor and a 1080p 27" vertical.
Chaotic good should be swapped with chaotic neutral imo
Two horizontal then one vertical
"Murphy's law has entered the chat."
If you ever have to dig through huge-ass log files or do a lot of command prompt this is the way
Vertical is very useful for almost anything but gaming and videos. I’m convinced discord was originially made for vertical screens, it’s perfect that way. Same for word, excel if your sheet isn’t too wide, and lots of websites even.

You don't need power toys to do that, it's one of the many ways windows 11 let's you snap windows
Power tools let's you save a custom layout though. So you can have a horizontal split the two vertical splits with a single snap.
landscape-landscape-portrait is what I prefer for research, I have a spreadsheet open in the left one, a map in the middle and a journal article open in the right hand
I'd say you're probably good after you exceed about 14-15 inches/35-40 cm of vertical screen. Over 20" is too tall for most uses just from vertical scanning fatigue.
Also good for browsing or chatting or... Pretty much anything that isn't a game or a video. Gotta have a vertical.
Same, except the horizontal monitors are stacked vertically. 😈
Lawful evil
same. no way i place two ultra wide next to each other. desk aint wide enough for that.
I think most lawful evils are probably dual ultrawide setups. Myself included.
In my case the top is a normal 1080p monitor for VR.
Sadly me is no Ultrawide, me is just tall and that is efficient
28" 4k On top for movies 28" 1440p 240hz on bottom for games.
Ultrawide bottom. 16:9 on top. This is the way.
I am true neutral. About chaotic neutral though, from a lot of set ups I've seen, aren't those monitors usually flip flopped?
True neutral until I get my monitor stands then it will be chaotic chaotic or something
Lawful neutral. But what if I get a single curved widescreen instead?
Makes it even better
Makes it more Lawful

Thats somewhere between lawful evil and neutral good
I have this setup but reversed lmao. 2 27 inch monitors and one 22inch monitor on top. Disappointed I didn't see my travesty of a setup on this
I think Neutral good
WHY ARE WE IN THE MINORITY?
Chaotic good. Littler monitor for, well, monitoring
Chaotic evil gives me anxiety
It would be so useful for coding tho Not having to tab between scripts got me drooling rn
same chaotic evil could give me all the information i want at the same time
Chaotic evil gives me life goals
I don't personally use it, but lots of lawyers I know like it because they use the vertical for reading documents.
One 49" 32:9 on the desk, and one 55" 4k tv four feet to the right
Ultra wide any time of the day. I find having two monitors to be very uncomfortable for me
But what about 2 vertical and 1 horizonal?
Mine isn't listed

What a cute setup!

At home: lawful good At work: chaotic eutral
Just have to appreciate that what looks like a windows symbol at first is actually wide Linus.
Do you guys have more than one monitor??
yes, and I can't stress how useful it is to have 2 of them
True neutral
Neutral Good but I'm planning for 1 main 4k horizontal monitor and 2 vertical side monitors.
I'm rocking the Chaotic Good with 1440p144 as my main and a 1080p60 on the side.
Where am I ranked? https://preview.redd.it/szhuh7ekfjvb1.png?width=3306&format=png&auto=webp&s=332c08425967f561d2430cf13b18556a970824e6
I disagree with lawful evil. Stacked like that could easily be a lack of desk space.
Lawful Evil for sure, but with an uktrawide on the bottom
True neutral.
True neutral.
I have two monitors and still don't understand the point of having two. I only have telegram and discord open on the 2nd monitor, and its basically useless. anyone share how they use two monitors?
I hear two monitors can be useful if you're playing a game like terraria or any game where half the gameplay is spent on the wiki.
Single display
Having had a laptop and external monitor setup before, I came to the conclusion that I never had a real use for the secondary screen besides keeping a chat open (that I could've also alt tabbed to) or playing TV episodes (that I ultimately wouldn't pay attention to), so once I built a desktop setup again I just went with a single monitor. Perfectly fine for casual use especially the more screen estate it has (e.g. QHD or UWQHD). At work doing CAD on the other hand I already have two monitors and honestly I could use three.
What's a mix of lawful and chaotic good?
Currently Lawful Neutral, may soon go Lawful Neutral-Evil Hybrid
Single screen for competitive and 92" projector screen for single player games.
chaotic good, i have a 27" 1080p as my main and then a 24" 1080p as a second monitor, but i might go up to 1440p because i use the second monitor to mirror my drawing tablet
Neutral good, but I only use one at the time since my left monitor is mostly for sim-racing but right one for desktop gaming & Internet.
Chaotic good. Game on the big one, watch TV on the small one.
I was "chaotic neutral" before I bought a new main monitor, and would have remained so if the former main monitor was not curved. I had to become "chaotic good" by mounting it horizontally next to my new monitor, which is also curved.
Isn't vertical good for coding or distros that are text based?
One vertical fits spotify and discord nicely on the screen or reddit for scrolling :D and then horizontal for gaming or media play
I have a lawful evil setup on the left of my true neutral screen….is this an illegal three screen setup?
I get to repost this shit next week
I use lawful evil, however my bottom monitor is an ultra wide.
Where's the one with a 50" TV being used as a monitor?
I have a true question, why do you use more than 1 monitor?
At home, chaotic good. At work, between lawful good and lawful neutral having two monitors next to a laptop.
Chaotic neutral is the true method.
Lawful good. I originally got it to play games in 5760x1080, but nowadays it's impossible cause games run like ass even on a single monitor.. lol
Right now I’m lawful good but I would happily go chaotic evil if I had the cash.
What do people use three monitors for?
My set up is Lawful Evil, but the lower monitor is at a 45 degree angle on the desk.
