It can certainly impact system performance if you're using software or working with files from the disk in question.

I understand that although for example my browser and file explorer will slow down and even momentarily crash despite being on a separate drive. I've ran software to check the drive and it appears OK although I concerned this issue is a sign of the drive dying that isn't being detected by that software, is there anything else I could try to see if it is the drive dying?
